The Corvette Stingray competes with the 992 Carrera S not the Cayman. On the Nürburgring the Stingray completes the run in 7:29 with the 992 S a second behind at 7:30. If memory serves, I believe the base Cayman has a time of 7:34. The base Cayman is not a place you want to be if luxury is your thing. The plastic materials covering the dash is not a great look. Step up to a base 911 or a Stingray and you will notice immediately the soft touch materials used in both vehicles. The Cayman, 400Z, Lotus Emira and a few others all play in the same space.

The Porsche Cayman MR can get around the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 2 sec Thilo was the driver. Just think if he was driving the RS it would be under 7 mins.

I have an older 06 Cayman S and have driven a friends base C8. The C8 was incredible as it was so much faster and the Vette handled equally with my Cayman, which is saying a lot. Still, I will be looking for a used Cayman over a C8 for my next car. The C8 was designed the dash lower and there is a better sight line then most cars. This changed the steering wheel to square so you can see the instrument panel through the wheel. The issue I have is I am 6'2" and my sight line out the Cayman is not affected by the Caymans instrument panel and I get a round steering wheel. ROUND and less buttons. I drove my friends C8 for multiple days and was thrilled by its speed and handling... I would prefer to drive the Cayman on the back road twisties to the track and the C8 at the track for the fastest lap, then drive the Cayman home.
