Other differences are that the Portola has a break light, whereas the XP doesn't. The XP has a stronger frame and is rated to carry 330 lbs, whereas the Portola is rated to carry 300 lbs. Both offer second rider kits, but the XP 3.0's back rack can carry 150 lbs, compared 130 lbs for the Portola's back rack. Lectric is currently offering a lot of free accessories with the XP, so better if you need those accessories. Lectric's bikes are sold by more local bike shops, so there are more places to get service for the XP than than Portola (check their web sites to find places near you). The Portola folds up smaller than the XP. The Portola's battery is easier to take out of the bike, which is important if you need to take out for charging or for security. The XP requires that the key be inside the bike to ride it, but the key hole is in an inconvenient location underneath the frame, so hard to put in and take out the key.
The XP has a display that can show both volts and amps, whereas the Portola only shows the motor wattage. The XP shows 10 energy bars in the display, whereas the Portola only has 5 bars, so harder to monitor the battery level. The Portola allows setting the number of PAS levels between 3 and 9, and setting the power of each PAS level, whereas the XP only allows you to set the sensitivity, strength, and max top speed, but not fiddle with individual PAS levels.
Here is how I would rate the winner in each category:
Motor/Power: Portola has a higher watt motor, but not much difference in real world, because the XP can peak at over 1000W, so both bikes climb hills well.
Display: XP (because bigger and easier to read in sunlight and can display volts and amps)
Adjustable settings: Portola (because can set the PAS levels)
    Max weight capacity: XP
Key placement: Portola (XP forcing you to leave the key in the bike to ride it is idiotic and putting the key hole under the frame is very inconvenient)
    Battery removal: Portola
Second rider: XP (because back rack can carry more weight and back rack is longer)
Frame: XP (because can carry 30 more lbs max weight and step over option which makes it stronger)
Support/Repairability: XP (more local shops to service bikes, and easier to find old bikes to swap parts in the future)
Gears: Portola (1 more gear and higher quality Shimano derailleur)
    Weight: Portola (because lighter)
Folding: Portola (because folds up smaller and includes a strap to hold together when folded)
Adjustment for riders: XP (because it offers adjustable handle bar height and can accommodate taller riders)
Accessories: XP (because it has more and many of them are free with the bike)
Range/battery capacity: draw, because Portola only charges $100 more for the long-range battery, but it is 0.6 Ah smaller than in the XP.
Really hard to decide which is the winner. I wish Portola was designed for taller riders and had adjustable handlebar height, but I really like how the battery is easy to remove and not having to leave the key in the bike to ride. However, with the current sale that includes all the accessories, I would buy the XP.

Excellent video. I like these unsponsored reviews, as they always point out things that others haven't thought about. For example, very few of them would've made the point that the Portola is not ideal for taller riders. As a 5'8 rider, that was an important detail to me.

My wife and I both own the XP 3.0 step thru...mine is black, hers is white. You can adjust the PAS from 0 (no assist) to 5. XP 3.0 comes as a class 2 bike (peddle assist and throttle with max speed to 20 mph). However, with a simple setting change, it can be turned into a class 3...max assist to 28mph...but max throttle will remain at 20 mph.
Don't know anything about the Portola., but can say we've owed our XPs now for almost a year and put about 600 miles on them thus far. Best decision buy we've made in awhile.

Would have been nice to have a riding review instead of just a component review.

I’m 5,10 , my concern is the reach & height, normally ride a large giant fast road sL 3 & an all city pro with 25 m setback seat post & 120 stem mods ,52/55 size frame , can a set back seat post make a difference Portola ? , also what the diameter on the seat post ,27.5,30,9 on both e-bikes , rider 1 or lectric doesn’t specify , I’m very anxious which one I should get , also considering the velotric t in medium, any advice will be much appreciated, got new subscriber , peace ✌️ , I got till the 20th to purchase lectric if I go that route, but portola look good 👍

i think Lectric is 31.6 on the seatpost, at 5'10 the lectric will be slightly better fit for you I think
