I would fold the bike because that’s one of the main reasons I would get this style for lack of storage space.

A big feature not mentioned is its KD21C display lets you customize the PAS to your liking:
    Number of PAS levels: 0 or 1 through 3, 5, 7 or 9. I think 1-5 is factory default.
Power delivered at each level is adjustable as a percentage of maximum. The only friction there is you can’t set a lower level to pull more power than a higher level does, so if you’re bumping lower levels up, you may have to go through the level power settings twice. I have a Lectric XPedition and while it’s been a great errand runner, I find the gap between 1 and 2 to be too large, and 1 is too much torque and power for slow, tight maneuvers, forcing me to make them without motor assistance.
You can also enable 4-digit password protection for additional security, but write it down somewhere safe, because if you forget it, nobody can help you reset the display. You’d have to replace it.

I’m sorry there is a typo in my previous text which I was unable to reedit, the option won’t allow me to correct. Portola without the very easy removable flushed in the lower frame 10.4Ah battery is 50lbs net weight. Therefore, considered one of the lightest e-bike with 20”x3” wheels/tires in this $1K price range.

It’s a great bike. The only things I would like to improve would be to make the 14ah battery size (you can buy it as an accessory from Ride1Up) the standard for the Portola, and most importantly i would like to see a torque sensor, as Aventon has done with their Sinch 2.

I’d like more companies to offer what Juiced does on most of their models: usually runs with a torque sensor but has the ability to switch to cadence sensor mode. That works better for towing a heavy cargo trailer, climbing up a long steep hill, or when I’ve tweaked my knee and can’t exert much force.

I have had my eye on this bike for awhile now. Won't ever buy a bike from Lectric bike company since i had big problems with them and there bikes. Also looking at the heybikes and Jasion and victrip Janus dual battery folder. Very hard to choose a bike there days.

@@rammalammadingdong1 I could write you a 4 page report on the issues i had with Lectric bike company . Lets keep it simple and just say : Quality of the bike, No quality control over the chinese manufacturing of the bike, Substandard shipping and packaging of there bikes, No support if you received a damage new bike, No return policy on there bikes even if damaged during shipping. Go read there return policies carefully. I ended up after a month of fighting with Lectric bike company taking legal action to finally getting my money back for a defective cheap damaged bike shipped to me. If you want to become a mechanic and work on your brand new bike you paid for then they will be glad to ship you all the parts you want when they become available? Worse company in the e-bike market.

Can I ask you a question? If I remove the chain can the bike be powered by the throttle to do 20 m.p.h.? I really like the Jackrabbit XG and I have neuropathy in my feet so peddling for faster speeds isn't a priority. Would like to throttle only any bike but need one a bit bigger than the Jackrabbit. If a bike is operable without a chain I'd like to get rid of the weight and the grease.

Do you mean Lectric XP 2.0?
Compared to the Lectric XP 3.0 step-thru (10.4AH battery), the Portola (10.4AH battery) is lighter by 5 pounds (64 vs 59lbs).

How does this bike compare to the Core 5?

    • @chow-chihuang4903
      @chow-chihuang4903 5 місяців тому

@@jonscottcuts Huh, Core5 has been replaced by the Turris, which has several upgrades from the Core5 but gained a few pounds and a couple hundred dollars in the process.
The Portola is similar in price to the Core5.
This is from memory, but here are the pros of the Portola over the Core5
      Front suspension vs rigid fork
      Hydraulic vs cable-pulled brakes
Larger battery capacity battery option when purchased with bike
      Integrated headlight and brake light
Better derailleur with 8 vs 7 gears
Cassette vs freewheel (can tolerate higher input from the rider)
Integrated rear rack and provision for adding a front rack
      Included fenders
Better hill climbing, due mostly to the tire outer radius
Though they use the same display, the software on the Portola lets you switch between classes more easily and quickly
      Cons
Weighs more (59 vs something like 51lbs)
Less sturdy frame for off-roading (compared to the step-over variant)
Could go either way, depending on your preferences
      More upright riding posture
      Smaller diameter wheels
      Narrower bars
Folding ability for travel or storage

If ride 1 up bikes had "twist grip" throttles, I probly would of bought one or two of their models over the years.
Thumb throttles are un-natural to me, TWO wheeled powered anything has had twist throttles.
