The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

THE GREAT VOICES OF MOTOWN........THERE WERE " NO" OTHER VOICES ON EARTH THAT COULD MATCH THEM......REAL
I'm sorry this generation doesn't have this level of talent to listen to.
I mean, that's not lip sync.
There's layered harmony, the dance moves that don't look like they need mediation.
Sorry.
This is probably as good as music will ever be.
Glad I lived in this time, even if I was just a tot..
The Four Tops were the tops
The great Levi Stubbs. Power personified. What a great great group of guys.
Levi… one of the purest voices of all time. The Tops were it. Never to be replaced.
Thankfully, he never decided to solo and look for more fame and fortune. I think he once said there were “Four Tops, not Three Tops,” when explaining why he stayed with the group. What a talented lead singer, and what a great group.
I saw them in Belgium back in '66.
@@barneyronnie that must’ve been a great show. Wow. History right there.
My eyes water watching these beautiful and talented artists: the joy on their faces, the moves! My god! Rewind overload!!
Saw them in Belgium in '66.
Levi Stubbs... defines what a hero is for me.
Imagine having the kind of voice that sounds NO different live versus in the recording studio. Amazing.
They were singing the HELL out of this song!
Way better than many not all songs released today.
It is such a blessing to have internet and a phone God is so good to me
Back when entertainment has style and class. Wow how it's drifted
@leokimvideo Not drifted; more like crashed.
they ran out of notes...or sumpin'?

Its such an honor to, in this present time be able to literally watch some of the best musicians in the history of music (4 Tops, etc) perform raw, and live. These men were magical
They were so, great as were so many of those great Motown groups. Greatest music ever!
I'm a 38 ur old white metal head from WV and this shit gives me chills
What is a 'metal head?' Sorry, but I'm 82 years old and never heard that said before.
@@barneyronnie heavy metal rock music some refer to it as devils music idk alot of growling screaming angry shit 😫 but I'm in love with music from the 60s also I've been called eclectic a time or to
This is how it's done. Stubbs forever lives
Levi Stubbs IS THE MAN!!
Never be another like him !! Sheer class and endless talent.
@@jimrattley1372 Amen.
;-) ... My Dad went to Pershing High School with him and Abdul :Duke" Fakir. Great voices that blend so well together :))
The voice of Motown was unmatched.🎉❤
My era. Love it ❤
Levi Stubbs, you will be missed.
INCREDIBLE TALENT!❤❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯
Levi Stubbs was a *_SANGER!_*
What a voice
Unmistakable...I had all their stuff late 60s
Wasn't he not supposed to be the lead because his voice was rougher than the rest?
Yes, he sure was smooth. 😀
@@benbaby100 No, where did you hear that from?
@@JaySmith-mz7vg That's what I had read that he had said.
I was born 20 years too late. I loved this music.
No. You were born exactly when you were supposed to be. God does it right. I was born in 1933.
They crushed that stage 🔥🔥🔥🔥
As if the vocals weren't BADASS ENOUGH, the freep-style choreography kept me rewinding with tears in my eyes-BRILLIANT!!
I love the suits too.
If it werent for soul n motown music and other music from that genre , I doubt the USA would still be United !
Motown - Sharp suits, dance steps, great singing, great songs,
it was a great time.
I love this song ...
I was there then and enjoyed hearing their music on the radio. However watching these old videos is so much better.
I always get teary-eyed when I hear this song because it was a part of the Cooley High Soundtrack! Cochise!!!!!
Levi holds the mic miles sway from mouth. He knows he has some power!
The autumn of 1966 was an EXTREMELY hard time for me. With the help of a girlfriend from high school, who Reached Out for me I not only survived, but have flourished. She and I have been married for 51 years. This song helped to get me through that hard time of my life, and I will always cherish it and The Four Tops.
Are you doing better, son? Was it about going to Vietnam? I spent almost 3 years over in that hell hole.
A true masterpiece that has grown 100x better over the years
I feel so lucky being able to have a phone and an internet connection just so I can see this treasure even tho I wasn’t alive then :)
Same!
I feel lucky to have known all of them!
DetroitLives313 wow I wish ! Good for you :)
The great shame of this performance is that in 2020, only Abdul Fakir is still alive while the other original members have passed on. God bless them all, and thanks to UA-cam for preserving great American history....🇵🇷🇺🇸😎
Same!
OMG. be still my heart, my 4 Tops are playng the Ed Sullivan Show! Wow! Now in 2023, I have the Duke to keep this wonderful group singing alive all these years! Thank you Duke, for keeping our memories alive with our brothers of the Detroit Sound! My Four Tops!
Levi was so handsome and could SANNNGGGG!
Fabulous .The wonderful voice of Levi Stubbs. Loved them all my life .
classy and perfect intonation !!
He was sosososo incredible
"just look over your shoulder" ❤️❤️👋
I really have never heard of the four tops. It's so interesting how such an influential, and frankly, good band has eluded me for so long. I wonder how other people's realities differ from my own? What artists who I regard as among the best are, for others, nothing?
Every time I hear this song reminds me of Cooley High!
The four tops bring me to a great place
This should have a billion views. The 4 Tops are legendary. Levi voice was amazing 😊
👍👍
These words are healing and true....Music...prophetic...
To quote Tina Turner Simply the best. Nothing more needs saying.
❤️👏🏽 Motown a Gravadora do balanço!
The Best
*Their voices AND energy though! INCREDIBLE*
They are pure talent, I love Levi x
You can say that again, my bro!!
DID SOMEBODY SAY , NOW THAT'S REAL MUSIC 🎶 ⁉️ Well they'd be RIGHT 🤩🤩
Wonderful
Can we bring this clean and respectful music back? I read that record producers approached Levi Stubbs many
times to go out on his own and record without the other 3 "Tops" and he always said no, they were a package deal. He could've made a lot more money but he stayed with the group.
His integrity is admirable.
Grow up. Music is about pushing boundaries.
They offered him a million dollars to go solo. He said no.
Four Tops 53-97 4 original men!!! ZZ Top with Dusty R.I.P. 50 years.
“Clean and respectful music”
I don’t think you’ve listened much to ‘60s music.
There was no reference made to ALL '60s music, was there? No there wasn't. The comment was "THIS clean and respectful music", referring ONLY to The Four Tops music.
Love ed sullivan n 4 tops
Those claps are so satisfying...
Damn no one could be this good live today- now that’s a performance!
Are you sure it’s life?
Duke on top! Love it. Levi had a special voice.
It's a rather complex song to pull off live but they did it. It's also, IMHO, one of an elite number of Motown single masterpieces. Great song, great arrangement, superb vocals.
Sure is. I love the modulations in the song -- so distinctive.
So right - deceivingly difficult.
So well said... 100%
They were and still are a Amazing Group!
The 4 tops rules 👍😊
Motown music always hit different👏🏾
Yes! 🥰🥰🥰
Timeless. Heart-wrenching. Perfect, and timeless. Even though it's from long ago, thank God it was recorded and preserved forever.
what a beautiful romantic song. I appreciate it now more than when I was young.
. *GOD, HOW I LOVE MOTOWN. SADLY, I DON'T KNOW THAT WE'LL HAVE ANYTHING LIKE IT AGAIN.*

LOVE THIS SONG I DO
This never gets old I saw them a dozen times in person
Been a fan from day one im now 72 think when i bought the records they cost about less than a pound lol x yrs ago about ten bob thats 5op
Look how handsome they look in those outfits! A true class act!!! Their balanced, harmonizing voices singing those well-written song is pleasing to my ears. Their songs bring back memories of the times. My eyes are filling with tears of joy, happiness, and wonder why today's artist cannot do this. I'm so happy to see that they sung on The Ed Sullivan Show. At the start of the show they really showed how gracious they are, no pridefulness!
💯💯💯
CLASSY MEN indeed with TALENT that makes me smile evyertine I hear them sing
@@nelsonortas4796
Definitely! A pure class act! No artist of today can match them!
The Four Tops on my Detroit Radio Station cruising in 1967, 68! Nothing better!
❤❤❤❤
man! the spirit in this music is power! wish I could of been there!
Levi Stubbs is the MAN. He owns this - PAIN, breathtakingly beautiful vocal.
He was so handsome
@@AnAdorableWombat1Why?
What an amazing group! And I love the teamwork! It seems at the 1:44 mark, Levi (the lead singer) noticed on the monitor that the camera angle was blocking out his bandmate on the end, so he moves to the side a little so everyone is seen. A class act! No wonder this group outlasted all the others at Motown!
Actually, the camera is the one moving to show everyone. Because you can see the backgroud behind the singers moving, so Levi didn't do much.
@@Klapefulhe literally moved his hips to the left to try to elegantly scoot out the way. The camera then moved. If you want drama, go to a Supremes comment section. 😉
How about Mams Cass? She was also also pure class!
I want to go to back this era great music 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Don't forget the songwriters. That's Holland Dozier Holland. Brian and Eddie Holland and Lamont Dozier, the genius writers and composers behind many of the greatest Motown hits.
No way to forget about them for what they left to music
Class, Class, Class! The Tops were always so polished. And Levi, one of the most underrated genius vocalists of Motown and the ‘60s-that voice also belonged in a Broadway show! 😎👍
I would like for someone to make a movie about The Four Tops man these guys were awesome talented good-looking and Levi his voice is the ultimate voice to me.
dont know if he was underrated per se, he and the four tops are widely recognized as the band that defined motown from what I know...
but yeah, it's a dying genre and I wish a movie would be made for sure
what is a micro USB connection
Don't know if you are aware or not -- he did sing, on film, a musical theater role, and did a terrific job. In the 1986 movie Little Shop of Horrors, Stubbs was the voice of Audrey II, the badass carnivorous alien plant, a major character. The musical Little Shop of Horrors originated on off-Broadway where it had a long run, but more than a decade after the film the show did make it to Broadway. Stubbs's/ Audrey II's songs are on UA-cam.
He has an Opera Voice as well, way under rated!
Great song then and now!
Love this song. All about true love of a boy and girl. Love the lyrics, melody, and lyrics.
Class, talent and integrity all in one package. Legends, every one of them.
Reach out I’ll be there Four Tops I love it 😍!❤❤❤
I meant to say that Levi makes me cry every time I HEAR him. God, I hate getting old....
One of the best most powerful and beautifully controlled voice ever.... Levi the King of Motown
I wouldn’t go that far but he’s Top 3 fs
He wasn't better then ruffin
@@utahsilvey5930 Levi sings more in a Gospel style
I agree the four tops are my favorite Motown act and i love Levi voice more than any other Motown act
@@LOUISVILLECARDINALS Better than the Temptations ?
Try to match that, hip-hoppers! There was a time in America when music was so inspirational that it made you feel great and blast the radio with your car windows rolled down...like 57 years ago with the Four Tops.
Amazing, this song performed so brilliantly saw me through some turbulent teenage years, truly memorable thank you.
WOW
Glad Ed is unlocking his vaults...The quality is amazing!
Ed Sullivan was a Great Host.
Best group ever
Fantastic !
There was a time then in the sixties when the Four Tops were all over the radio, you heard them everywhere. Great times!
Timeless brilliance.
They were greatness. One of the best Motown groups ever, and that's saying something
Unbelievable super talent!!
Thank you Ed Sullivan for capturing this bit of Motown magic on tape for future generations to enjoy ~ The Four Tops ~ Their handiworks remain ~

This is what class looks like
I usually listen to metal, but there's no denying that these guys were IT. Their voices are heavenly
They were the whole package, professional, talented, handsome, classy the list goes on.
👏👏👏 love it
I'm 30 and Levi is one of my favorite male singers because he sings with such conviction. You feel every word.
Love love love this music
Sondra J it`s called Soul and Levi touches your Soul .These days people do not believe we possess one as they don`t belive in Jesus and Heaven and Hell . The world is a mess and only Jesus Christ can help you ,no one else .It`s just between you and God ,makes evrything else meaningless
I’m with you here. I’m 38 and he’s always been my favorite.
Wilson Pickett is great for that too....
🚬😎👍
I'm 35 and I made a little shop of horrors bird feeder I call Levi 3
Such great singing and energy. I love their music. Their voices were extraordinary.
Levi Stubbs is a great singer .But more importantly he is an example of what a man should be and act .We throw the word role model around. But that is what Levi Stubbs is .
Pure Class.
One of the top 10 records of all time! Levi had one of the great voices. For something different, check out their version of I Believe In You and Me--just beautiful!
Thanks for the recommendation! i will give that a peek!
i love this song
Loved the Four Tops. What a great live performance. And, Levi? Brilliant.
