    Thanks so much for that just installed my charge controller this evening and the charge controller went from a solid blue light to a blinking blue light after sunset. I’m assuming this means the solar panels can’t detect sunlight. I couldn’t find an explanation anywhere else or in my manual either so thanks again!

    • @todddunn945

      Yes, it means the charger is getting no input from the panels and has shut charging down. If you sync your phone to the controller it will show charging off.

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  7 місяців тому

      Constant green means that the charger is in Float mode, which means that the charger thinks the battery is fully charged.

  • @waisaketukaha9123
    @waisaketukaha9123 8 місяців тому

    What is absorption charging mode?

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  8 місяців тому

      Absorption charging is constant voltage charging at gradually reducing current. Basically, only enough current is supplied to maintain the charging voltage. As the battery approaches full charge that current decreases. Once the charging current drops below some threshold value, the charger switches to float mode where the charger only supplies enough current to hold the battery at "float" voltage which is typically about 13.5 volts for a 12 volt lead acid battery.

    Good day Sr. I just don't know what those settings mean. Float, absorption and bulk?

    • @todddunn945
      @todddunn945  22 дні тому

      With reference to lead acid batteries. Bulk is the charging stage where the charger puts out maximum current into a significantly discharged battery. During bulk charging the battery voltage gradually increases as charging proceeds. Absorption is the charging stage that occurs after bulk charging has brought the battery up to is full charge voltage (typically about 14.3 volts for a 12 volt battery). When that happens the charger provides the current needed to hold the battery at the full charge voltage. As the absorption phase proceeds the charging current decreases until the "tail" current is reached. At that point charging current drops until if reaches a level needed to hold the battery at about 13.7 volts (float voltage). This final stage of battery charging is the "Float" stage. Float stage holds the battery at full charge and will last as long as the charger is connected to the battery and no current is drawn from the battery.

    Hi Todd. Informative video - I just subscribed. I have a question that I will start with some backgropund. My 105W SunflareSolar panel's output is measuring 18V on my voltmeter. When I connect the panel wires to the MPPT 7515 controller, the panel measures 0.7V. and the blue light keeps blinking as though the controller is not connected to the panel. What would cause the wire terminals to pull down the voltage? Any information would be halpful.

      I can't think of a reason for that to occur. Did you connect the charge controller to the battery first? The charge controller will not work unless connected to a battery before connecting it to solar. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    • @todddunn945

      If I understand correctly and assuming your 200 watt panels are 12 volt panels, the four 200m watt panels wired in series parallel should put out about 21.5 amps at about 38 volts at full output. If you have a Victron controller, the controller will reduce the panels output to what your batteries need at any given time. You will not see full panel output except during bulk charging. During absorption or float charging your controller will reduce panel output. For example, when my 10 Kwh battery battery bank is in float charge my 1000 watt solar array will generally only put out 1-2 charging amps.
      I have two questions: 1) What is your battery bank? and 2) What solar charge controller do you have?

      Yes, you can buy a version without Bluetooth for about $40 less. However, you have no way to program it beyond setting a jumper on the Victron port (lower right side) to select your battery type. Alternatively you can connect it to a computer using a proprietary cable ($23) and program it from the computer and the free Victron connect program you can download. Without bluetooth the only was you have to determine what the controller is doing is the three LEDs on the front of the unit as illustrated in this video.

The strange thing was that my 12V usb was working as well and my maxxfan and the blue light was on bulk mode . Ok, voltage was very unstable and loading very slow until reach 11.70-12 V but still. Few days ago i was doing my research about Victron and about polarity, i went to my van and - oups- i did it - so immidiately i changed the polarity to correct one and….. not is just nothing. Checked fuse on Victron and it was burned. Changed it with a new one 25A but blue light in blinking all the time. With multimeter connected to victron connections everything seems fine but on usb i have 0.50 V and as i said - blue light blinking. Any suggestions? Also checked the rest fuses and all are good. .
