I love seeing each and every creation you produce and this demonstration is one of my favorites! I love how you share each piece and I always look forward to your next. I watch a lot of tutorials but must say you're the best! Thank you for this tutorial, I'm excited to try the dry milk paint technique. I would have never thought to do that.
Lisa Standiford ... I can’t thank you enough Lisa for your thoughtful words and support 🙏💙 It truly means a lot to read your comment and I appreciate your support 🤗
Oooh. I love those industrial strength metal stools. What a good idea. I can see how those are a perfect support for a project. When working on a smaller piece, you have yourself the convenience of a lazy susan.
Valkyrie Sardo ... thanks so much for watching and your kind comment 🙏💙 The stools are super helpful! Especially when you do lots of furniture projects! 😉🎨
I really enjoyed watching your tutorial. Not only are you professional in your painting techniques, you don’t hem-and-haw your way through your filming. Your end products are created with flair and creativity, and I must say again that this video was a breath of fresh air to watch! Last, I’ve never seen these different finishes put together, but this dresser is a very elegant and expensive-looking piece. Magnificent! 👏👏👏🤟🤘🤟
Hi Deb!!! Thank you for the kind words!!! I am trying to show many techniques on my tutorials so you guys can have many options to play with on your own pieces. I am hoping that you all are deriving benefit from them. It’s learning process for me as I film and I am trying to make the viewing experience for you all better when I change my film angles. Thanks for your support to my channel! Please share my to others that may help them on their chalk paint adventures!! ❤️🙏🎨
Just seeing this video. You are so talented in the art of painting as well as in teaching. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and creations with us. Fantastic outcome!
You are an absolute genius! Using milk paint in its powder form? I've never seen anyone do that and I never would have thought of it myself. Thank you for all you share with us!
Stopping and showing us the highlight and low light differences between the washes was a brilliant idea! Thanks for always being the best youtube teacher in the painting arts! I love listening to you and seeing your beautiful finished pieces!!! Please wear a mask when you spray indoors...lol...be safe... xxoo
nanette orchid ... thank you so much Nanette for your thoughtful comment and support 🙏💙 Yes wear mask 😷 I only did that corner for the example on the video, did the rest outside! I actually do that shellac seal to a lot of my pieces! It really helps! The wood bases inside are so dry and and sometimes discoloured in wood tones , cleaning them is just not enough especially when selling them 😉💙
You killed it ( in a good way!).....I doubted you right up until the end though. I love when artists like you can work through a series of ugly phases then bring the art to life. I do 1-2 steps, freak out at the ugly, then stop.
Katrina Verschoor ... thank you so much for your kind comment Katrina 🙏💙 Yes your right! It always looks ugly before it gets beautiful and everything comes together ☺️
Gorgeous !!!! Love the look and using the paper towel give the paint texture which I really love. All the little extras that you've done has brought a new life to this piece. Thanks !!
Absolutely beautiful piece! I love the professional, thorough, attention to detail both inside the piece and out....approach you have to your videos. They as well as your art is outstanding!
Half way through I thought it was awful- but I kept watching. When you started putting on the powdered milk paint I thought it was ruined - but I kept watching. Finished piece GENIUS!
Jeanine .. thank you so much Jeanine 🙏💙 For your kind comment and thoughtful comment! Yes it was a bit ugly as the steps were done but I like showing those steps so other expect to see something similar and not be afraid 😱 lol 😂 Thank you again for your thoughtful comment!
The Reclaimed Heirloom Oh my goodness I don’t agree at all I think every single step it looked amazing by adding more n more layers it was just beautiful each step of the way. I wish I could pic you’re brain I have a 15 drawer dresser that I’m redoing to making it look like an old catalog type unit. It is all solid oak, but I’m stuck I’ve got it all to the point that it’s just all white but I don’t know what to do next 🤨🤔🤔 I have the catalog drawer pulls in black n that’s it where I’m at.. I wish I had you ability to vision something then know how to achieve it. Love everything you do I am so grateful for you sharing all with us my friend 😘😍😜
This has got to be the most beautiful transformation on this dresser. I’m so in love with this look, I want to give it a try when I find the right piece. Thank you so much for sharing. 🥰😍❤️
Wow! You really out did yourself with this one! Such a work of art. I so appreciate you sharing the techniques you used for this. Never knew about the fresco and dry milk paint. I learn so much from you. Thank you 😊
Nadine Connors ... thank you so much Nadine 🙏💙 for your kind words and support! I really love sharing new ideas 💡 with everyone and I am so appreciated of the support 🤗
Oh Christina! Right out of the ball park! What an amazing tutorial so much new stuff to try! I'm loving the Rub-ons🥰 Thank you so much for sharing your talent this is definitely one of my favourites!!♡
Nikki Lloyd .. always a treat in my day to see your comment Nikki 🤗💙 Thank you so much 🙏 The transfers are a great option and some pretty amazing choices too! 😉
Cindy Holmes ... thank you so much Cindy for your kind comment 🙏 I will definitely show how I do my wallpaper inside the drawers!! I love the look and it makes the drawers look amazing, new and professional! I like putting the matte varnish after so for use it can cleaned out without compromising the wallpaper integrity!
Absolutely drop dead gorgeous!!! What you did with the transfer is something I’ve never seen…you melted it on the dresser. I didn’t think it would look good at first, but after you you did your magic it’s difficult to tell it was a transfer. I will be shopping your Amazon store!!!
Jeanne Dorsey ... Many thank Jeanne for your thoughtful comment and support! 🙏💙 I am super happy with the results as I wasn’t to sure at first if my planned thoughts would work or turn out the way I planned 🧐 I definitely want to create similar styles and add more layers in the near future! Thank you again for your kind words 🤗
Holy Smokes!!!!! That is stunning. I've saved so many of your videos so I can watch them again and again. I've used milk paint that I've made the old fashioned way--with milk (it hadn't arrived in powdered form when I started), but your idea of sprinkling it in powdered form, then wetting it is brilliant. It's nearly impossible to find IOD transfers in the EU, and I've never seen those borders anywhere. If I were 25 years younger I would figure out a way to become a retailer.
Wow, each time you do something, I want to copy it to a piece of my own furniture. Problem is I don't have many pieces to paint. You inspire me beyond my imagination. Love your work. Thank you.
So many furniture painters are sloppy and the fished product looks good at first glance, but when you pull out the drawers or look under it etc. it's obviously amateur. Your work is very well thought out & detailed. All of your pieces are actually "high end".
I am in love with what you made here it is absolutely stunning thank you for sharing your talents with this piece this looks fantastic love love love it PS. Fantastic instructions on how to do it Great teacher thank you🥰🤗
Hi Catherine! Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you liked the outcome it was a fun project for me to try out! Thanks again for supporting my channel it really means a lot! ❤️🎨🙏
Absolute brilliant use of the milk paint and fresco in their original form!! Thank you so much for making such high quality, easy to follow videos and for generously sharing such amazing techniques and tips with us. Videos like this one in particular, are without a doubt my favorite because I love the element of surprise...just when I think you’ve given me enough excellent ideas for one video to hold me over until the next-boom!💥-out of nowhere you hit me with the most unexpected curve ball, like the milk paint and fresco idea!! I am so excited to try out this brilliant technique🤗 Thank you so much, your work is top notch!💯❤️❤️
Luv2cre8 ... I can’t say thank you enough for your thoughtful comment and words 🙏💙 I truly appreciate your kind feedback and support 🤗 Thank you so much ☺️ it really makes my heart sing to hear people getting value from the tutorials and inspiration 💙🎨
Belinda Anderson ... thank you so much Belinda 🙏 for your thoughtful comment and Yes the IOD transfers and even their stamps are fantastic 👏👏💙 I have seen so many beautiful transformations with others adding these to their projects!
cheli navarro ... lol 😂 your to funny 😆 Your perfect 👌 as you are! I wouldn’t change a thing!!!! But we could paint and stencil your kitchen and bathroom floors 😉💙💙💙
I love your videos! Thank you! I'm frothing at the mouth to get started!! I have some pieces I would love to tackle!! I was wondering, do I need to sand the furniture first? Or can I apply the base coat right away? Second question, any suggestions in terms of colour combinations and techniques for that ornate pale greenish/goldish aged finish, that is reminiscent of a Versailles look that goes well with adding gold gilding and adding stenciling etc? I want to try this on some furniture as well as my mantle and a few doors and door frames to marry it all together. I love the really dramatic look
La Poetessa ... thank you so much for your thoughtful comment 🙏💙 As for sanding pieces it’s not needed but it also depends on the finish you want to create, if you wanted to do a lot of blending and not enough paint the oils and stain on the original wood may bleed through, not always but can happen. It all depends on the surface you are painting, is it really old ? You found the piece and who only knows what has been put on it? For the most part I don’t sand but some pieces I have redone have been second hand and need the stain surface removed just in case it bleeds! But just a real good cleaning is generally all you need with chalk paint. I have recently been sanding some of my pieces because they are previously painted and I want the old colour and wax off before I paint it 😉 As for colours is tricky for me to advise only because I don’t see the decor in which the pieces are going to be but generally with the Versailles tones and cool greys you can’t go wrong! It sounds like you have a good plan! It so nice to hear people getting value from the tutorials! I remember when I started and I really wanted to make a UA-cam channel that taught the techniques I wanted to know and make pieces I wanted to learn how too! Thank you again for your thoughtful comment 🤗💙
Knorpp and South ... I usually let the base coat before any colour washes let dry for a night. I use a high grade heat gun to dry the base for the videos! I have had that happen were I put my base coats down ( usually 2 coats ) and a couple hours later I have done a a wash and the base will lift and it’s usually because even though it feels dried to the touch it needs a good overnight to dry and air cool to firm the base into place. I find it’s important to have 2 coats of the base so it’s thick enough to paint with washes once it’s fully dried. I hope this helps !! It’s a great question and like I mentioned I have had that happen so no worries it just needs more time to dry underneath and adhere to the furniture 😉💙
Gorgeous piece. Love the technique with the milk paint. A couple of questions. Instead of fresco do you think a sprinkling of Saltwash would work? Did you put the milk paint sprinkles on the front and sides of the piece? Thank you for these amazing videos.
Beth O'Neal ... thank you so much Beth 🙏 for your kind comment and I just wanted to add at the end ( I didn’t show it) the wallpaper for the inside of the drawers! I use the Modpodge for placing the the cuts and then I add a matte varnish on top of the wallpaper once it’s cut and placed in for added protection and you can clean the drawers with the added protection so the wallpaper stays protected with cleaning in the future! 😉💙
Your work is wonderful. I have a couple of other people that i subscribe to and watch what they are doing and i love them but yours was quite different and added a whole new element to the end result that i never thought of. Thank you so much for being so informative and telling us exactly what you were using. My only problem, if you want to call it a problem, is that i found your voice very quiet and even though i had my volume up high i had to keep going back and trying to catch again what you said. If it's just me i apologise. There was no disrespect meant at all. I love your work and will now Subscribe and hopefully see some more of your work. Thank you again for sharing your hard work and knowledge. Shirley.
Shirley Cranswick ... thank you so much Shirley for your thoughtful comment and support 🙏💙 I really appreciate your feedback 💙 I always thought my voice is to strong and even load lol 😂 But it’s very helpful from viewers to mention things they experience with the editing 🤗
Good morning. Congratulations! I love what you do. A question: i want to know If you put coloured pigment with wet or dry lacquer. Have a good day. Francesca from Italy
francya73 ... thank you so much Francesca 🙏💙 for your kind comment and when I apply the dry colour pigment it is applied when the lacquer is still moist and I also add a bit of water ! 🤗🎨
It is gorgeous. I just need to know if matt lacquer makes the finished paint darker?? I know clear wax darken the finished paint but how about lacquer?!
It will make is slight more wet look, but not too noticeable. Try a small area on the back to see if you like it. Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🙏🎨
I’m so glad to have found your UA-cam channel. I’ve learned so much from your videos. Now I’m hoping once I try some of techniques that I get the same results. I’m absolutely going to try to duplicate the IKEA Challenge dresser that you did. If you have a moment can you please tell me what the picture that you used was called? Thank You and Have a great day.
Hi Rochelle!! Thank you for subscribing to my channel and for the kind words!! The image I used in the IKEA challenge was a image I found on google image search that I printed on my computer color printer. I was searching on google for french renaissance era painting images. 🎨🙏❤️
First of all you are amazingly talented. And my question is how do I find furniture artist like you. I’m from New Jersey. And I’ve never seen furniture like this for sale let alone know anyone that could create such beautiful work. Can you help me find someone who knows how to do that
2 questions! I don’t want to use the milk paint or clear lacquer, unless the lacquer could seal all of my painting. Would I use clear lacquer instead of using clear wax? What’s the difference between the two? And when you did the staining, could you have used dark wax to stain the table top too? If there is any scratching on the original piece, should the table top be sanded first?
Jack Marcus ... Hi Jack, The last decorative strep with the dry milk paint is a total option and not all will be interested of course, the lacquer is just stronger protection and can be used on both the stain and chalk paint to seal. Wax does seal chalk paint but it is not as resistant from water and heavier use. Lacquer is more durable. Not all furniture needs strong resistance but as you saw in the video I used it as well for the milk paint and fresco application. You can use dark wax to stain your table top, I actually have done that is a few of my previous tutorials! There is dark wax and black wax. I always recommend a sanding before staining but in this video I wanted to demonstrate that you can paint over chalk paint with the gel stain on the dresser legs and still looks good. The table top was sanded before the gel stain and also to have a nice smooth surface! Hope this helps and thanks so much for watching 🙏💙
Thank you so much for replying! I’ve been on a decorative obsession in the last 72 hours- I’ve watched countless videos, mostly yours. When our closest stockist opens backup and I move, I already anticipate two matching projects. I got a C in elementary school art, but I CAN do this!
Please do not take offense but approximately how much would a piece like this sell for. Definetely labor intensive just lovely. I have reviewed this tutorial so many times. I am going to practice on some wood first.
Hi Pat!! Good question!! I actually answered your question on my next Chalk Paint 101 Questions and Answers Episode #4!! It will be on UA-cam this Wednesday September 9th at 9:00 am EST so stay tuned!! 🙏🎨❤️
I live in the UK, I was looking for the transfer that you used in this video but can not find it on your Amazon link. Do you know what’s it’s called or where you found? 1
I think this is the 5th or 6th time I've watched you do this finish. It's high on my list of favourites. Prior to sprinkling the fresco and powdered milk paint, is the final coat of sealer left wet or just a little tacky? I'm going to be using a homemade milk paint with powdered milk, plaster of Paris and hydrated lime. I'm hoping I'll be able to add powdered pigment to the milk paint powder as I can't afford to use all of the products. Also, the gel stain doesn't seem to be available in Italy. Is there anything else you might recommend? What is available here is an "impregnante" stain. It sinks into the wood. When I ask the help in the hardware stores in town if I can paint over it, or use the stain over wood, they look at me as if I've grown another head before telling me it's impossible. As they are not familiar with creating faux finishes, I'm hoping they're wrong. I want to thank again for sharing all of your techniques so clearly explained and demonstrated I've learned so much from you I'm very grateful. Hope you're having fun with your new adorable puppy. ❤️
Hi sorry to bug you does shellac make it so wood doesnt bleed at all I have a dresser that is custom from my neighbor Tim and guess what it is the first bleed I ever had on furniture and I'm not allowed to use spray cans but my maybe my mom boyfriend can spray it for me once I used a old febreze bottle for water spray and it smelled really good and the wood spelled good to this is beautiful good job I dont have that transfer but I have a iod stamp it looks alot like that transfer have a good day
Gavin BIDDISCOMBE ... you can ask any questions anytime! The shellac comes in a spray can but it also comes in a can and it’s clear just like the spray. I recommend using it in a ventilated area like the garage with the door open or outside if possible. You can use a synthetic brush clean well after use or a small foam roller which ever you would like to use. But definitely have your Dad use the spray and make sure he wears a mask 😷!! It’s not good to inhale. Yes it will definitely stop 🛑 the bleeding through your paint. You can apply over the paint and just paint over that and continue on with your finish! The IOD stamp is perfect 👌 you will make a beautiful finish using the stamp!! You are so creative, that’s amazing 😉
A Little Shabby Very Chic ... you can get Fresco on amazon just type in “fusion mineral paint fresco” that is the company that make the fresco I used ☺️💙
I love seeing each and every creation you produce and this demonstration is one of my favorites! I love how you share each piece and I always look forward to your next. I watch a lot of tutorials but must say you're the best! Thank you for this tutorial, I'm excited to try the dry milk paint technique. I would have never thought to do that.

I love watching you work........your voice is so calming!
Where did you get your spray bottle? It gives such a nice even spray
La Poetessa ... thank you so much for your thoughtful comment 🙏💙
As for sanding pieces it’s not needed but it also depends on the finish you want to create, if you wanted to do a lot of blending and not enough paint the oils and stain on the original wood may bleed through, not always but can happen. I have recently been sanding some of my pieces because they are previously painted and I want the old colour and wax off before I paint it 😉
As for colours is tricky for me to advise only because I don’t see the decor in which the pieces are going to be but generally with the Versailles tones and cool greys you can’t go wrong!
How long do you usually let your bass coats dry before washing them? I almost always seem to lift those as I paint my washes.
Hi Bianca!!! Yes and yes!!! ❤️🎨🙏
Loved your piece. You share such great information. I just am confused about where the wallpaper went. Thanks
Shirley.
Shirley Cranswick ... thank you so much Shirley for your thoughtful comment and support 🙏💙
I really appreciate your feedback 💙
I always thought my voice is to strong and even load lol 😂
But it’s very helpful from viewers to mention things they experience with the editing 🤗
I was looking for the transfer that you used in this video but can not find it on your Amazon link. Do you know what’s it’s called or where you found?
... Have you ever used a lighter gel stain over a darker chalk paint base? to somewhat give it a cloudy look.. Just thinking out loud haha.
I would really appreciate ur clarification
Hi Jack,
The last decorative strep with the dry milk paint is a total option and not all will be interested of course, the lacquer is just stronger protection and can be used on both the stain and chalk paint to seal.

I want to thank again for sharing all of your techniques so clearly explained and demonstrated
I've learned so much from you
I'm very grateful.
Супер!!!!!!!!
I'm so sad they discontinued the IOD transfer.
Yes! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🙏🎨
Where do you get the fresco
