My Elantra will be 10 years old in June. Bought it brand new back in 2011. 176K miles and still going strong. Great investment. My only gripe was with it being advertised to get up to 40 mpg on the highway. I have driven it on so many highways and have only been able to get on average 35 mpg at speeds between 55 and 65.
Yeah Hyundai nowadays is doing well with fuel economy. My Venue is rated to get 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, but I get like 40-50 mpg in the city which is nuts.
My father in law just gave me his 2011 Elantra GLS, it has 201,000 miles on it. He’s done very minimal maintenance on it, just oil changes, tires, brakes, battery, spark plugs and a starter at 185k miles. The car has never left him stranded. Never changed trans fluid or coolant, that scares me a little, but since it was free I’ll drive it until it explodes lol
Have just bought a 2011 Elantra Elite (NZ spec model) with 113,000 km on it, which means a black leather interior, and dual zone climate control. Very quiet and smooth (I have little need to redline it), typically numb but accurate electric steering (doesn't only apply to Hyundai, believe me), decidedly firm ride and very crisp handling on the twisty roads. Very solidly built. It's actually nice looking - something I can't say about most cars these days. It's hardly in the first flush of youth but I think it's a good car.
My dad bought Elantra made in2015 in 2020 and i love that car man still going strong, for 3 years he only had it taken for fix 1 time. I learnt how to drive on Elantra this car is underrated
i got a 2012 elantra manual and its pretty fun. didn't like it for awhile but i tried to sell it. and didn't want to get rid of it, and loved it ever since. its got 267,000km on it rn
I have a 2012 with 252,000 miles and some change and had it ten years now. It still doesn't lose its oil level and still using the same original AC system and still blows cold and I live in south Mississippi. Only major repair I've had was the crank sensor and I still get 34 to 36 miles to the gallon on the highway doing 75 miles an hour. I use full synthetic oil and change it every six thousand miles.
Yep, you said it. This is the original swoopy car (2011-16 model). After much research I considered buying a used '16 model, but couldn't get past that weird center stack on the I/P. So I bit the bullet and bought a new '18 Elantra SEL. Hyundai has come a long way, love this car!!
The updated MPG ratings for the Elantra sedan are actually 28 City/38 Highway; still respectable numbers. I think he also failed to mention that all Elantras have disc brakes at all 4 wheels. I have a 2012 Elantra, which is my first Hyundai, and, to me, it's a very competent car. My big gripe would be that there is no spare tire, though you can buy one after the fact now.
Just bought 2011 GLS..52K miles Why? Best bang for my buck! Glad it loses resale value because I keep all my cars until they are dead. Sold my 2002 Prizm for this. Night and day. Test drove the competion and the Elantra has best exterior looks, best interior, most room. No spare? Went to a junkyard and picked up a $85 Aluminum 16'' wheel, jack for $3 and wrench for $2. Tire for $40. Full size. Donuts are not real tires. Just amazing car all around. Mechanic wise, only time will tell but I'll risk it over the lesser Corolla, Civic, Sentra, Focus, Mazda3, Impreza, Galant, Fusion, Cruze. Rented or test drove them all. Elantra best.
what about motor??? is it enough power etc...hows transmission??? do you still have it...i ask because you seem like you like this car over the others... i have a 2005 altima which is great...but i want something better on gas since i drive 200-350 miles a week... thanks
We've noticed that, but we always thought it was because the vehicle needed an alignment. We'll have to see if a new 2013 model is like that to find out for sure.
I drove the elantra, focus, cruze. It seems all three have no steering feel. The materials inside feel pretty much the same. They all have plastic feel to them. I notice that the transmission on the focus, elantra has a tendency to shift somewhat have that lazy feel. The Chevy Cruze has this weird way if you make a sudden U turn. the transmission have a lazy way to catch up. it's like Oh its time to go. then it goes. Focus has the HP, Elantra has the interior, Cruze just average.
I personally have driven this car and pretty much the only good thing about it is it's fuel efficient. The things I didn't like about it were lack of throttle response, light steering (for my taste), and an exhaust drown at around 45mph.
Did you notice that the steering wheel was always tilted at an angle when you were going in a stright line? Sonatas and elantras along with acouple of other models have that steering problem. Atleast a corolla doesn't have the problem. IMO the Corolla is amongst the best. It's quiet, looks decent, rides decent, and gets decent MPGs.
I've been looking for a car now for awhile, i want something sporty but yet reliable and i honestly think an elantra or maybe a mazda 3 would probably best fit that option but idk. I found a elantra for 4800 dollars and a mazda for 6k and both have similar mileage.
Really if you are serious. drive a Corolla first. the Corolla is a better car. if you want a great car. for the price of the Elantra. Go test drive a Subaru Impreza. A more comfortable. and better ride, with a better stereo system. and all wheel drive. Hyundai will tell you that the Elantra gets 38 MPG'S. So not true the most I can get going down hill is 35.5.. Sofyan, see if you can get your hands on the current Forte SX (2011-2013). The hydraulic steering in it is soo much better than the electric steering. Plus the 2.4 is sweet
I have talked to people at shopping malls and other places with Elantras and they have all said the same 33/34 on the highway. We were in Florida and a disgruntled Elantra owner stopped me and asked if I was getting more than 33 on the highway. We went on a 300 mile trip there and back (total 600 miles) traveling at 65 and only got 34.
The driving dynamics surprised me. Sure, I would still put the Civic, Focus, Jetta, and Mazda3 before this car but for those who just want transportation I would put it above a Corolla or previous generation Sentra.
I was thinking about buying a 2011 gen model, but started hearing about that model has a ticking engine problem for people who live in cold weather. what's your take on it?

Sorry you had such a bad experience. I had a 96 328i before with 236k on it and had minimal issues. I know you had a bad experience but didn't you love that silky smooth I6 motor?
I've been shopping around for cars in the 20k price range (CAD), and the jetta looked inferior to the elantra in a few ways. According to their respective websites the elantra has better mileage, more hp (148 to 115), more torque (131 to 135), and is even 9 kg's lighter (Auto trans). Also financing atm is better currently at 0% APR.It tells me the jetta requires premium gas as well. Am I missing something? Unless you're talking about the 24k CAD price range I guess the jetta is more appealing.
My friend has the elantra limited with nav, loaded. Its a nice car, but the headliner is SOOOO CHEAP. Idk if you noticed this, but the headliner in my 07 spectra seems downright luxurious in comparison.
People buy it because of the toyota badge. People become loyal to these car brands and are unwilling to look at other brands. Also like he said in the vid, Hyundai has always been known as the "generic brand", therefore people usually don't think of hyundai when buying a car.
In Australia I can assure it is called a corolla in Europe they call it the Auris. We have the older sedan or this new one. The BADGE ON THE BACK SAYS COROLLA!!!!!!!!!!!
so that not a cvt transmission??? is it an actual 6 speed trans??? also how long does transmission normally last in this car??? 150k? 200K? more? thanks
judging by the people who liked my comment im not the only one who thinks so. and i can count 2008-2010 know why? because honda was the only auto manufacturer to report a 4% INCREASE in sales during those years. the 2006-2007 jettas were much nicer then any hyundai could be. i find it funny how you reply to all my comments on every video and when i respond you get quiet. its my opinion and i'm not going to change it because some BS car company makes a half assed compact sedan.
Before anyone buys the 2013 Elantra inspect the paint on the bumpers. Make sure the paint matches the rest of the car. If you like mismatched paint then disregard my first sentence.
The Elantra GT has a much nicer looking interior in my opinion. It has the vents in the proper place, and just looks a little better overall. I don't understand why the sedan has a strange interior.
these cars are absolute hell to drive. the engines are horrible in the high revs and steering is pretty numb. not to mention its just a swoopy lump. theres no resale. i would rather be in an automatic, wait no screw it CVT fit and listen to that cars refined revs and be flooring it all the time then listening to this angry hampster under the hood rip ass everytime i leave a stop sign. nice review!
The only thing I didn't like about the Elantra is the front hood isn't visible from the driver's seat, which makes it more difficult when parking in tight spots. The GT hatch is more to my liking, but still has the front hood issue.
Be careful, check with other owners of the Elantra like myself. These cars do not deliver the 40 mpg claimed. In fact every owner I have talked to is getting in the 33/34 mpg range on the highway. If I had known that I would have gotten another vehicle like a Honda or Toyota.
I test drove one of these in 2013...and the legroom was bad. other than that, it's a very nice looking car, but I decided to get an 09 honda fit sport due to legroom and honda reliability. just traded it in for a 2013 mazda 3 i touring and though I miss the honda, the mazda has better power and comfort. plus you don't have to deal with a cvt or dsg transmission
Henry, you are right there is no spare tire as we found out one evening. The 38 mpg on the highway is a lie. We are getting 33/34 on the highway and I have talked to several others who are getting the same mpg. I wish now we had researched more and we would have bought a Toyota or Honda.
I actually got 40 once. Of course, I've also gotten as low as mid 30s on the highway, but that will happen if you are going over 70 mph, on hilly terrain, and/or if you have a strong headwind. I also have a feeling that these engines don't really like the gasoline with 10% ethanol. Unfortunately, that's all that's available around here. While Hyundai goofed on the mileage label, I'm content with their reimbursement program.
If you were in the market for a compact sedan, choose the Elantra over any compact sedan! Even if you were in the market for a Honda Civic, choose this instead, because the Civic is just crap! IT IS UGLY!!
Anybody who likes the corolla either sells or owns them. Anybody who knows about cars should know that the corolla is the oldest compared to their competition. The 10th gen Corolla (2009-2013 US version) has even an older counterpart in Japan called the Corolla Axio which was introduced in >>2006
***** No i just find the 10th gen corolla horrendously left behind compared to its competition back when it was the current generation. Even the 11th gen is still slightly trailing because of the new Forte and Mazda 3. The Civic beats Corolla in fuel economy (excluding the eco trim) and its got a more responsive CVT than the Corolla. I test drove both cars and the Civic just felt better to drive.
Gee! someone here has it for Corolla, how do explain the fact that it still sells so well? must be a lot of dumb people in America buying cars, Camry, boring is the # 1 seller in its class.
The Elantra wouldn't be my top choice for a compact sedan but I don't see why you'd choose a Corolla over this. Toyota reliability isn't that stellar and together with their crap quality I'll pass.

nice upgrade.

it has key less entry, it just wasn't with the key
The 2007-2012 sentra has the biggest glovebox in the compact class
Also, the Limited model does away with that fugly key, and gives you a proper switchblade proximity key.

+Fredrick Altenhoff - Mazda 3 is a great car, I had one for 9 years, I actually just traded in my Mazda3 for a 2016 Elantra.
I noticed that as well
the dash resembles the Genesis wings.
You don't want direct injection...
I have one in bronze. Will be trading it as soon as the new Corolla come out. The Elantra is noisy and numb feeling
I know I had one so ugly I sold it for a ton of money
Woops I mistyped more torque (131 to 125).
I test drove both cars and the Civic just felt better to drive.
u right
I've found those chairs so uncomfortable
The seats in my 17 Elantra are very comfortable. Owned car 4 years next month, no sign of wear or deterioration. 68.000 miles.
Gee! someone here has it for Corolla, how do explain the fact that it still sells so well? must be a lot of dumb people in America buying cars, Camry, boring is the # 1 seller in its class.
I like the Sonata better than the Elantra
Obviously, you would. The Sonata is the bigger and better vehicle so most people would prefer the sonata
Brrr...looks cold
The Elantra wouldn't be my top choice for a compact sedan but I don't see why you'd choose a Corolla over this. Toyota reliability isn't that stellar and together with their crap quality I'll pass.
Why do American cars chyme like that?
