Yesterday you condescendingly accused me of not knowing what mythicism was on HV, and failed to scroll down to find my response prior to the end of the show. It was incorporated into one of my points. Now I'm going to incorporate it into why I am not a historicist. A mythicist is someone who doesn't believe Jesus literally existed due to a lack of incontrovertible evidence. A historicist is someone who believes he existed in spite of the lack of incontrovertible evidence. This is why when historicists say Jesus may have existed, it's not the gotcha you think it is
And by not being married to it, I mean I try and keep an open mind and follow the evidence where it leads, which is why I follow historicist channels
Additionally, my positions were not a repudiation of historicist points, but rather your line of reasoning which greatly hampered any srs consideration of the points raised. Whether you agree or not, I hope you're able to distinguish between the two

The Bible makes reference to many different gods of the people Baal Ashera Ashtoreth chemosh Dagon but none of them are ever mentioned as living only one is mentioned as the living God

The only god and his father is KRISHNA. Krishna dynasty was there in way back OF 10000 years or more. The thing that i don't understand is that why are the Jews condemned as being "sinners" for killing Jesus if the entire point of Jesus existence was to be killed for sinners. Christianity claims that Jesus death was pre-ordained by God the father for humanities salvation, and at the same time condemns the jews for rejecting him as their messiah.
If the Jews had accepted him and not killed him then how could humanity be saved then?
Jesus is a Hellenized version of the Moshiach in Bible prophecy. The Greeks and Romans put their own spin on the Hebrew Religion to pacify the Messianic Zealots they were fighting. Read about how the Jewish General Josephus was captured by the Roman General Vespasian and what happened next. The truth is right there.
Its more specifically the rabbis who are responsible and like in most cases the authority of the religion is ussually not genuine and just wants power they would've killed him no matter what for that reason
They are not considered sinners because they killed Jesus, they are considered sinners because all have fallen short to the Glory of God. Saint Paul talks a lot about this is Galatians and Romans where he says Jews and Greeks (all non Jewish people in the world) are sinners.
The people of the world misinterpreted that one. It is simply meant that we all kill him, the One that truly Loves us beyond all human recognition, we are of Him yet we kill Him with our actions.

Who created us and why - I don't know (I just have my guesses). However, I have lived in this world long enough to know that we don`t need "Gods". It is enough to distinguish good from evil and understand the balance that must be maintained between these two necessary forces that govern our lives. "God" is anyone who has a lot of money/power/fame, and unfortunately such people have been manipulating and using other people for their own purposes since (I assume) ancient times. The "Gods" (those who lived on a high mountain, basked in luxury and decided the fate of even the kings themselves) were never favorable to ordinary people, and Greek mythology best confirms this. The "Gods" may as well cease to exist, it would certainly help a healthy society. The question is what ideology we would be guided by and whether we would understand why the force of good should be the most important for us. Because these days our ability to distinguish good from evil is fading, the boundaries are blurring, even Hollywood tries to convince us that we can all be like "Gods" and have power. So do we know their true value of being a good being... or maybe we are so manipulated by today's "Gods" that we cannot listen even to our conscience, which is filled to the brim with pride/jealousy/narcissism/egoism?

We're back with God: An Anatomy, it's a very fun book to read. It really brings this deity back into the natural world, not this "existing out of space and time" rhetoric. Our conceptualization of deities are very much the projections of our interactions with the world and ourselves. Monsters, demons, gods, angels, spirits, myths and other abstract concepts have this big influence on us, some serve to enforce rules and others to break them and modify them, the Hebrew God is no different , it informs how we live and interact with each other and the world.
Of course this is just my 2 cents. But hey that's cool

Man I couldn't make it past 10 min u can hear the venom in his voice with every word he speaks. I'm not a Christian but I certainly don't have hatred for their beliefs. The only thing I'll say from the little I saw is El is not a God in the Bible, it's a title for god. So when he says the Cananites worshiped El and so did the Israelites is like saying the Cananites worshiped god and so did the Israelites, yes they both worshiped a god, but not the same one. El of the Israelites is YHWH. Elohim YHWH means God YHWH, his name is YHWH not El or Elohim, those are his titles.
To get to the truth we must first discuss the first point of truth which is that the Bible is only inspired / based on other older, original text and evidence.

Savvy, experienced skeptics, especially we apostates haha, know far more about what's in the bible than most believers do. Most only know a few fluff verses and other liturgical feel good fare.

You read it from your lens, not through the lens of God very few find Him. Most people read the Bible with their intelligence and pride instead of coming to God with a humble heart not knowing anything at all.
God created man in his own image, or vice versa. Evidence suggests the latter.
My road to questioning was initiated when YWH smelled the meat cooking in Eden. I never understood it as it was weird, illogical, and ignored by theologians and priests. NOW I understand it. Thank you Myth Vision.
Where is this in the Genesis?
I think the Christian God has more in common with Ahura Mazda than YHWH Elohim. Mostly because of the whole god of good thing but also because of the cultural melting pot of Jerusalem during the second temple period.
Maybe this is what the gnostics spoke of when they mentioned the god that all or most worship is Saklas. (the fool) god of the material world and the true god has never been seen only by his son. So, what of the gnostics stance?

Awesome episode, thanks for your work. 1 thing I would have liked to been brought up was the scene in Genesis when God and 2 angels meet Abraham and have dinner with Abraham and Sarah . God and his angels were seen as human figures and extremely handsome. I'm curious how you would described that scene. Anyway keep up the good work man. It's so good to see Faith in It's historical and cultural context is being presented by Derek. I once was a very earnest born again Christian, full of hopes and fears but now am post Christian. I still love the Bible and Jesus....they are still a huge part of our history and my personal history. Much is superstition. Keep the good, reject the bad. Peace

You know what's funny. Dumb/Ignorant people like my grandparents or their parents pretty much assume that God has a body. They even believed that heaven was actually in the sky. I remember having those discussions with my grandma before she died. I thought it was so silly that she believed those two things, but she was the one who was correct about what the bible actually teaches. It's crazy that intelligent people can't even see this because we have spiritualized and modernized our view of God and heaven and hell so much. We completely miss the forest for the trees because we read the bible with 21st century eyeglasses on. When we do that we divorce the bible from it's historical context. This is why I have such a hard time talking about Christianity these days. There are two different ways of talking about it, the literal historical way that it was actually written and the spiritual/metaphorical ways we can make something good out of it for our time.

There is a much more likely explanation for the physical vs. non-corporeal body of God: The "god" of the Bible is NOT the Creator who no man has seen except Jesus. If you accept the position that the Elohim are created beings who act like they are God, many problems go completely away,.

The classic metaphorical/allegorical/poetic interpretation always comes in clutch for intellectually dishonest theologian "professors." "Don't take it literally like an ignorant atheist," they say. Because when god wanted to gave out legalistic commands that he wanted you to abide by at the threat of divine punishment, he was being cute and literary about it.
Just one of the core problems with theist and their holy tests. For each person of faith is a person who believes differently than everyone else. Each one only tolerates another for long enough to get their sense of community and support of faith.

I wonder how big this God is supposed to be. Is he as tall as the average man, or is he more like a giant 5x, 20x or 3000x times as large? Even that would be relatively small compared to the gigantic size of the universe - who's master God is supposed to be.
Any depictions of Yahweh would of probably look like Osiris or Amun ra a very clever way to hide the fact they worshipped the same gods of Egypt
