Tremendous work with so many different Macs. Many thanks for your excellent instructions. Great work!!. My IMac end 2015 and MBP mid 2015 flawlessly updated with the only issue of WIFI connectivity as mentioned. Easily solved. After installation I deleted many old KDKs versions in my application folder (developer) to save disk capacity. I only stored the actual and the version before. Looking forward to the next video, thanks again.

Hey, Mr. Mac! So pleased about your super in depth video here!! I am one of those 'gonna wait' folks, as I have a mid year 2011 imac. Interestingly, though, I had many of the problems listed for your test macs, just in upgrading to 14.3.1. No menu bar, no apps turning on, etc. It was a right mess. Wound up having to do the update to 14.3.1 with USB and that was still iffy. Required several NVRAM resets and manual root patching to get everything up and running. SO yeah, waiting on the hopeful arrival of OCLP update for non-metal MACs for use with 14.4 Many thanks again for the great detailed update videos! And OLCP for all the amazing work allowing so many of us to be able to keep using great old machines that are still kickin'!!

I have been unable to update over High Sierra on my 2011 imac 12,2...I tried Monterey, Ventura and Sonoma. Every time during the install and it reboots to continue the install it get's to 25 minutes left and then a screen pops up that says "An error occurred preparing that software update" (Monterey, Ventura, and Sonoma). If anyone sees this and has some info or feedback, it would be greatly appreciated!

@@user-wh6ds2ck7z I don't know what you have on your mac. My mac had been wiped before. I reinstalled High Sierra (had all personal data saved on a back up external SSD) . I then partitioned the HD and kept the original High Sierra in the smaller partition. From there created the USB installer, as per previous Mr. Mac or Jerry Flying videos using OCLP downloaded onto the High Sierra partition. Then installing newer OS from USB installer onto the fresh new partition. Everything works well this way. Ventura is really the best performer for the mid year 2011 imac! and you should opt for the less new version, as per this video, the newest version of Ventura will have problems on old MACs. You will need a clean drive though. (at least a clean partition!) You can always add back your fav apps and data later from external backups...

@@user-wh6ds2ck7z: I had the exact same problem with the exact same message appearing during the installation process. I finally decided to plug my old original Samsung 2x2Gb RAM sticks instead of the 2x4Gb « no name » sticks I had installed years ago as an upgrade. Thanks to this, I managed to install Ventura on my mid-2009 MBP 5,5. Then after install was complete, I plugged back my 2x4Gb sticks. Everything works fine ! I may do this swap every time I decide to install a big OS update. Hope it will help…

It truly AMAZES me how the OCP team does such a GREAT job in creating support for our older Mac products on Apples "latest and greatest"! As well as you, Mr. Macintosh with you in-depth and informative videos to lead us through the "Forbidden Garden" that is what most of us hope to keep doing with our favorite Mac products. I have a 2012 macmini and a 2017 macbook air. I used OCLP 1.4.0 to upgrade to Sonoma 14.4. The macmini is connected to ethernet. The only problem I had with both is on the final boot I get a black screen. It even tells me I need to install the root patches. Once I do this all is well. I did have the wifi problem on the macbook air. That problem was easily resolved. I have now updated my OCLP to 1.4.1 on both computers with no issues. Thanks for all of the help you have given us.

Sadly no early workaround to the Wifi issue. As I mentioned in the comments of your earier video, this is not a big deal for me as I have at least as many older Macs as you have ;-) so one of my four MacBook5,2 right now has no Wifi. But I need to say, that it also gets no useful Ethernet connection - but this I once more have to double check, as I had some Wifi issues with my whole in-house-Setup. Wonderful and very complax video. Congratulations! After updating from Catalina on mid-2012 Macbook Pro to Ventura, I have a problem with the OCLP 1.5.0 which I used to install Ventura. Post Install Menu Patches available for my system show that: Graphics: NVidia Kepler and Graphics: Intel Ivy Bridge must be patched so the system can run programs such as iMovie and FCP X. After I started Root Patching, the OCLP patched it and advise to reboot the laptop to apply the patches. When I do a reboot/restart, the OCLP comes up telling me that patches still need to be installed and so forth.
I really don't know what and how to do to overcome these issues and regain functionality of these two video editors: "Graphics configuration not supported. This graphics configuration does not support hardware acceleration, which is required to run Final Cut Pro." I tried installing filmora and other video editors, but the videos will not play in the preview window.
Any advice you can provide? Thanks and continue your wonderful work! Bojan

First-timer and thanks for the helpful guide. Everything's working after updating Big Sur to Sonoma 14.4, but I'm confused on what Sonoma's Automatic Update settings should be (System Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates). There are five options with toggle buttons:
    1. Check for updates (I toggled on)
    2. Download new updates when available (I toggled on)
    3. Install macOS updates (I toggled off)
    4. Install application updates from the App Store (I toggled off)
    5. Install Security Responses and system files (I toggled off)
In summary, I only enabled the first two options. Do you recommend different settings? I have a MacBook Air 13-inch, Mid 2013 model.

I kinda mentioned this in that comment, but wanted to re-share this bit because I didn’t see you mention this in today’s video: The Menu Bar Clock, Widgets & Control Center are all broken after updating to Ventura 13.6.5; my iMac has an AMD graphics card and I believe something in the 13.6.5 update killed the OCLP patches regarding those graphic features. On my stock 5.1 pro, I have High Sierra, Big Sur, Monterey, and Ventura. Even without patches, High Sierra is the fastest all around. It won't run current Chrome or Acrobat Reader, and it doesn't have dark mode, but it will run Office for Mac 2011, which won't run on Monterey and higher. Big Sur is slower than HS, Monterey is slower than Big Sur, and Ventura is slower than Monterey. Monterey will run Acrobat Reader, but all the others won't. Ventura takes about 5 minutes to boot, but once it does, it's pretty past, at least using Chrome.

@Mr. Macintosh thanks for this educative extensive video. Had you heard about .png installation issues with oclp with the drivers installed? I have a mid 2012 mac pro cheese crater with Monterey installed. every time i try to install parallels and some other apps, it gives the message: "parallels desktop quit unexpectedly. click reopen to open the application again. click report to see more detailed information and send a report to apple." when removing drivers form oclp it let me install the apps and runs but laggy (i think because or gpu drivers). After installation if i do the oclp drivers, it gives the same message again. Any knowledge about this? any fix other than uninstall drivers? Much appreciate.

Thanks for the Video. It worked for me(IMac 17.1) fine with Sonoma 14.4 except that OpenCore delivered 1.4.2 and if I even install OpenCoreLagacyPatcher 1.4.2 and do rootpatch etc. after reboot an relaunch OpenCoreLegacy Patcher it Offers me wgain that a new Version(1.4.2) is available to download. Because my OCLP version stays still at 1.4.1.
And I get a Popup telling that OCLP that I am booting up on an outdated OpenCore Build
    Booted 1.4.1
    Installed 1.4.2

thanks! I have a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina (A1398) with Monterey installed via OpenCore Legacy. I'm wondering if it's advisable to do this upgrade since it's a non-metal MacBook?

It's neat that you can do this,
But the OS isn't the only thing that has to run on a computer. I ran into a problem where the software was crashing because it was expecting an instruction that wasn't on my 2010 CPU. Every machine that Apple supports with Monterey also has that instruction, so apparently the programmer didn't do an independent CPU check.
The same thing just happened with the Popcnt instruction that MS is making mandatory in the next Windows update. Time is marching on.

i reverted the root patch done by OCLP 0.6.8, the Post install root patch can not be applied successfully on OCLP 1.4.1, then i installed the OCLP 0.6.8 again and apply root patch. Therefore, I can not update the OCLP update successfully on my Mac pro 5,1 running OSX version 13.4

I’ve had the latest open core update on Mac 2010 with metal card (sapphire). But it’s stuck on boot screen now… I only updated Opencore and it’s root patches, I was not trying any OS update, as I’m keeping Monterey and disabled auto updates.. I tried the solutions online via selecting efi recovery and using Terminal to revert the snapshot, but the error message comes up “Cannot determine mount point”. Anything else I can do? I have a Time Machine backup and essential files backed up however I’m seeing contradictory information online regarding using that to recover my programmes etc. or if it will even stop the problem or not.. Hope someone can help 😊

Thank you for this. It was very easy to follow but I am still having a problem with my 2012 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro. There is no sound and in the preferences, it only shows as a digital out on my system which is running Ventura. Sound works great when I boot into Windows 11 so I have no idea why I always have no sound on Mac OS. I hope you might be able to help.

Thank you for another great video. My iMac 11,3 from 2010 have been running Sonoma 14.3.1 without any issues (GPU has been changed to metal). It has the original HDD as well as a SSD drive installed. I am running Ventura on the original HHD and Sonoma on the SSD. Every time I upgrade, I run into the same problem for both drives. I can install and boot into safe mode and do the build and install OCLP (1.4.1) as well as doing to patches. When then rebooting it gets stuck at the classical 1/3 bar. I have tried reset VRAM several times, restarted several times, but so far no luck. Is there any tip for solving the issue?

Greetings. I have found an issue with (my two) Mac Pro 5,1 running Monterey 12.7.4 and OCLP 1.4.1 the root patches it wants to install (legacy WiFi), but neither has a WiFi card, the ethernet interfaces say the cable is disconnected, but they aren't and the switch interfaces is active/ connected, removing the post install root patches fixes the ethernet issue. No such issues on my MacBookPro 2012.

macOS 14.4 does run pretty well for me on my 2015 13' MBP. The boot times are actually a lot faster on 14.4 compared to 14.3.1 and earlier on there. Of course, right after I updated to the betas, I noticed my keyboard and trackpad weren't working which quickly got fixed, as well as having to forget and reconnect to a wifi network to auto-join it. I also noticed (and this is still present btw) that unlocking with my Apple Watch doesn't work in 14.4, requiring me to enter my password to log in.
