Mv Agusta F3 800 Oil & Filter Change

  • What's up everyone? In today's installment we're doing a little maintenance on my 2014 Mv Agusta F3 800. Seeing I purchased the bike preowned and you can and should never trust anything the seller says, we're changing the oil & Filter. This is a super super simple task that anyone can do. After what was involved in replacing the battery on the F3, I expected this to be a much more difficult task. As it turns out, it's quite possibly the easiest oil & filter change i've ever done. Check it out! Also, if there's something in particular you want me to cover, leave a comment below and be sure to follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. Thank you for this video. I let the dealer handle the first oil change since it was going in for its first service anyway, but I’ll be doing the next one soon. Big help to have this video on a bike as rare as the F3 .

    Lovin your vids man. I just bought a 2016 F3 800 RC a few weeks ago with the insurance pay out I got on my wrecked Ducati 748R (2002). I got twice as much as I paid for the R seven years ago and blew the lot on the RC. My partner was furious, saying I should have saved some of the cash for our wedding etc etc. It was making life pretty difficult so I was going to cave into her demands, sell the RC and get a cheaper superbike. Then I took her for a spin on it. The first things she said when she got off was: 'It's amazing, don't ever sell it!' Result. The wedding will just have to wait. :)

      Yeah I must say, this is the easiest oil/filter change i've ever done on a bike. However, I expect the coolant flush to be a real PITA because of the location of the overflow tank, ugh lol.

      Thx Chaney! Yeah I have been neglecting the APE a bit lately. Mostly because I consider it to be 99% complete! There really isn't much more I want to do to it other than ride. Unfortunately, I can't really do much vlogging on it, as the SC Project exhaust is just too loud lol. Nevertheless, we'll have some maintenance stuff happening fairly soon.

    Nice instructional video and presentation. I just got a '14 Brutale 800 a little over a month ago. This video will come in handy when I go to do my oil change. I'm guessing the configuration will be closely similar sans fairing. Being that you are from AZ and I am from Vegas (with frequent trips to Phoenix), it will be good since we deal with same climate conditions. Keep up the great work!

I now that on the MV Agusta Maintemance Manual its write to remove even the lube oil coolers, where remain almost 0.5 liters of Old oil ... If you change oil even 4000/ 5000 km its not a problem to change the oil such as your tutorial video?

    First off.. love the videos! Keep up the good work! Question.... my MV F3 keeps coming up service and counting down miles till it's time to be serviced is this just basically an oil and filter change you seem really knowledgeable about all these bikes so have any idea?

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  6 років тому

      Hey Chris Bender. For the most part yes. Bikes like the Panigale will indicate if the next service is a major one or just a basic oil and filter. Other bikes will just inform you that "A" service is coming up. It's up to you to determine which one that is based on mileage, use etc. If you're unsure, check your owners manually or give your local dealer a call. With European bikes in particular, you don't want to skip a valve adjustment. These bikes tend to be overtly sensitive to valve settings. Good luck bro and thx for the support.

    Im sure you are suppose to get the bike flat ground on both wheels to get an accurate reading of the oil level. I faced an issue with overfilling oil by mechanic, my guess is he pour in the oil with paddock stand and get false reading or, he pours exactly 3liters in, which in the manual it says oil sump is 2.5liters. Overfilling is bad for your engine n clutch drags

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  5 років тому +1

      Hey Marcel. Thx for the compliment! Italian bikes can be finicky. But you'll want a clean title, accident free and maintenance history. Sprag clutches are a problem on these bikes as well as a few electrical gremlins but, there's really no way to check for issues. The bike should be in good shape, clean. A filthy bike is a bike that hasn't been maintained. Hope that helps man. Good luck bro!!!

    Like your channel, well-done. I am considering the purchase of an F3 800, so appreciate your insights into the bike and general maintenance with your battery video and now the oil change video - thank you. With the bike on the rear stand are you not concerned about the small amount of oil that may be trapped forward in the engine and not fully drain? I suppose it couldn’t be much since you were able to get what looked like to 2.5 liter/2.6 quarts of oil in? I guess one could always put the front wheel up on a stand, if necessary. Thanks again.

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  6 років тому

      Not at all. That amount is negligible. If you're considering purchasing a preowned F3 ask when the last time they replaced the sprag clutch and if the bike has a Lithium ion battery. If that answer to both is no, then a sprag is in your future if you decide to buy it, which should give you some negotiating power. Nevertheless, I really love the bike and don't regret adding it to me collection !!!

    • @Rieju300
      @Rieju300 6 років тому +1

      Cool. Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I have read about the sprag issue. Was that not corrected in later models from the factory - would a 2016 or 2017 still potentially have the issue? The battery doesn’t concern me other than the pain in the ass of having to remove the tank as you demonstrated!

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  6 років тому

      I can't speak from experience but, it depends on who you ask lol. Some have never had a problem with the newer bikes, others have.

    Hi can you tell me which way the spring under the oil filter goes ?
    The small coil at the bottom on the cover or the small part of the coil under the filter.
    I can't remember if it's large part of coil spring facing down or up

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  8 місяців тому

      To be honest, I don't remember either. Unfortunately, I sold my F3 long ago. Having said that, I'm not sure it matters. The purpose of the spring is to put pressure on the filter so it doesn't fall down. Again, I doubt it matters if the smaller end is up or down. But take what I say with a grain of salt and do your research ;)

      Sorry for the super late reply. I haven't been doing much with my channel lately. With MV being a boutique motorcycle builder/manufacturer, they don't build a lot of bike-specific engines. Instead, they build variations of the same engine and put them in different models. Brutales TEND to be naked versions of the fully-faired sportbikes. There are minor differences but for the most part, yes they are the same.

    New to your channel , really like it . Quick question , I am thinking of adding F3 800 to my collection , I currently mostly ride Panigale 1199S and hypermotard 939 SP , should I prepare my self to be bit disappointed vs stock F3 800 ? mostly I want F3 for light commute 2/3tikes per week .

      @ESBKLife  6 років тому +1

      What's up Rich? Personally I think you'll love the F3 800. It will surprise you with its low and midrange grunt. And Because it's super light (44 lbs lighter than the 1199) it's incredibly agile! The only thing disappointing about it are the brakes IMO. Coming off those 2 Ducati's of yours with Brembo Momo blocks, you'll really be able to tell the difference! The F3 brakes are soft and lack initial bike like on the Ducati. However, everything else I've been really happy with, until I had to replace the battery, ugh! What a pain in the ass!! Otherwise, it's a fantastic bike and I don't regret adding one to my collection!

      ESBKLife , thanks for reply . How about the suspension? Will I miss ohlins on saschs and marzocchi ? I don’t think only ohlins are simply the best , but riding on that for years , just curious if you notice that a lot coming from 1199 S or R

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  6 років тому

      I personally can't tell the difference with the type of riding I do on the street. I purposefully purchased my 1199 base model because I couldn't justify the additional cost for the Ohlins on the S and R model. While I love technology, I've never been a fan of electronically adjustable suspension on bikes. However, take all of that with a grain of salt as you're speaking to a guy that's look to buy and Panigale V4R next year LOL.

    • @ESBKLife
      @ESBKLife  6 років тому

      Derrick Richardson a weak battery won't cause that but over filling the overflow tank will. However, a weak battery will cause a sprag clutch failure, so get yourself a lithium ion battery pronto.

      What's going on 48RR? I typically follow the manufacturer's recommendations unless i'm doing something out of the ordinary like trackdays. Oil & filter roughly every 4000 miles (manual says 3700), major services are every 7500. I also, check the air filter with every oil & filter change and replace as necessary.

      I'm sorry but I no longer have this bike. However, I believe that MV F3 had Brembo M4 calipers on the front. If you search for "Brembo M4 brake pad change" you should get plenty of hits. Several manufactures used the M4 calipers on their bikes, the pad change process is pretty much the same on all.
