You make it look so easy many years of experience shows
That flux trick really does work. I’ve been doing it on driers and joints with no wiggle room. It pops right in on reinstall
My co worker in the 80’s showed me that. Ken More Like sears 😂
@@NorCal-refrigeration Was his slogan "Pay less and get More"? If not, it should've been.
Big fan of your channel. Your work day is a lot like mine. Working here in Ontario. You are a no BS straight to the point UA-cam tech and I appreciate that. No fancy bologna just straight to the nitty gritty. Keep it up !
Thank you
@@NorCal-refrigerationI have a 30 plus year old bar fridge with r22 in and after all these years it's still nice and cold it was a road side find
I haven’t seen any of your videos for some time Dave , it’s a breath of fresh air. I see you have got some new tools, the manifold, temperature meter and tool bag ( where’s tippins?) 😂
@@terrytugwood7848 Tippins is still #1
I'm not sure if you know this tech tip, but when I unsweat pipe from a compressor, I reuse the plugs from the new compressor on the old one. It only works if you unsweat the pipe. Just use a Phillips screw driver in the hole on the plug, and they push in pretty easy.
Some places (United Refrigeration, for example) typically won’t take warrantied compressors if they aren’t brazed closed.
I had one splooge oil all over a rubber rooftop one time because I said, “Ahh, I’ll braze it at the van” and then I dropped it. Lol
But the plug idea isn’t too bad if you’re chucking it into a customer’s dumpster anyway.
I’ve used that flux trick forever even when just brazing. Works like a charm!
Keep up the videos nor-cal, doing the HVACR world a favor.
Thank you

Remover. It also has a thread starter on the other side for jacked up threads. I like mine served me well for 3 years now.
Have mention you every time with the flux trick. Stolen from Nor-Cal, Dave. Thank you it works. I sweat dries too with flux.
Dave, You always do a first class job. I know Your customers really appreciate You. If the young techs will follow Your lead, they will do well.
I have an El Cheapo bicycle rain poncho that I use at work , the good thing is that because it's light it can go over my regular work clothes , and it's cheap enough that if it reaps it's not the end of the world 👍
Love watching your work. I do residential, but always learn new tricks from other areas of the trade. Going to try that flux trick. People get too serious about things, I like your easy going just go with the flow work style. I sweat the driers out as well. No need to have to put fittings together to make up for the pipe you lose when you cut them out. Just flow nitrogen and pull a good vacuum. Keep the puzzle pieces intact.
Why techs hate the EPA. Always making what works impossible
Tell JR I said Hello, I haven't seen him years! Scott, W/NORCAL COOLING & CALIBRATIONS... I bought an Elitech last month, good so far, it's my new beater EDC. My TESTO 550s is wearing too fast! My trick is to add a little water into the flux and stir it up, loosens everything up.. Great video Dave.
Compressors and vacuum pumps... Can't count the number of times my vacuum pump would turn over. Nothing like pulling up to a job and have oil pouring out the back of your van. I finally got smart and used a ratchet strap to secure it to the shelving.
You are a legend Nor Cal Dave .... Good humour as well 😂
I have that flux sitting in my garage, I'll have to try it out! 👊🏼
Hey Dave, great job as always. Mid 60's here in Iowa, so I'm getting the Harley out for a ride. A long motorcycle ride will help me cope with the anxiety your van organization gives me 😂😅. I'm considering a second channel dedicated to refrigeration work. I do a lot of work on Stoelting and electro freeze softserve machines, and I don't see much content on that. Anyway, thanks for sharing, my friend.
74 here yesterday I did an ice machine call then rode the bike. 🤘🤘
Mighty fine job sir.!!!!!
Nor Cal Dave to the rescue.
No body beats Dave in Northern Callie.
nobody will give service at 6 am in the morning like you it's too much early 😂👍
Idk about that. In NYC we start 4, 5, 6 AM. 7AM is considered a late start. 8am you are working the night shift. Day is half done.😂
Excellent work dave 👍
Good video! I once LONG ago went to a 'cardboard boat regatta' that featured the Exxon Valdez, complete with captain Hazelwood sporting a cardboard vest, cardboard captain's hat and a cardboard liquor bottle "XXX"; on the Connecticut river of all random places! And it rained! 🤣 At the end of the regatta, the Valdez wasn't sinking fast enough so the Captain kicked a hole in the bottom and I remember the hat and liquor bottle floating on the river!🤣🤣🤣 This would have been about 1990 when I was 10 years old, I'll never forget that. Too bad people don't know how to do that kind of thing anymore... or do we!?
my navac recovery unit blew up the other day (coil popped) luckily still under warranty, took the refund on it and bought a fieldpiece recovery unit, loving it.
Going to try that flux next time I do a compressor 🔥
Double the compressors, double the fun.
That jacket is amazing. I've never seen a jacket that could be used in multiple circumstances like that before.. Working and motorcycling! What will these geniuses come up with next?
"Massage this in" 😂men you got me. Have a nice sunday, Greets from Germany 🤙
Nice especially the Exxon Valdez reference lol
Don’t un-sweat the driers out or the compressors Manitowoc guy said last week 😂😅. Good video Norcal Dave
Manitowoc also tell us to sweat in new crappy peanut switches on warranty machines when the factory turds (inevitably) fail.
@@tbader20that’s true I remember doing warranty for Manitowoc. Pinch off tool , cut the old switch sweat in the new one 😬🤣🤷🏻♂️
Nice work and video Dave. Thank you for the knowledge.
Just be careful pinching the compressor ports on warranty compressors! I’ve seen some manufacturers require to install 2” stubs rather than pinching them off. 👍
Perfect 👍
Pinch one off and seal it up... I think I speak for many.. we ALL have done it to get a job done 😅😂😅😂. Then I lost my coffee to the Shanahan comment... made my own Exxon Mobil Valdez all over my counter top..😅😂😅😂. Stay safe and be well Brother Dave
I forgot big Dom got the karma on Greenlaw too. Man the NFl is the devil 😂😂😂😂😂😂✨✨
That was nasty.. to watch it pop like that.. I knew instantly he was done.. even before the replays.
I forgot you had that lil roll around. Its working out pretty nicely, i see. I got a nice little rain jacket for 21 on TEMU.
Dave just wait in till couple years you won’t be able even purchase 400 blend due to the GWP it’s going to cost company & customer $$$ on older equipment .The EPA is making the manufacturing to use low GWP refrigerant on all new equipment so in about 6 years all this refrigerant we are use too are going to be around hopefully l be retired by then counting the years .
Nice job Dave!
I love your new service bag got to get one

Hey bud i do racks now. R22 to 448A just oil chnage. 404A to r488A we change the powerheads on the TXV and the foodblack should stop
Dav Finally went to the Mystery Spot ! Yesterday
23:02 - 26:15 Dude! I just realized that I’m spending _way_ too much time on brazing. You took barely over three minutes to braze all the joints on that compressor! Well done. And thanks for not snipping through it. Question: pulling from the high side only, how do you get all the vapor through the closed TEV from the low side?! Does the TEV have an internal equalizer? (Pardon the silly question: I’m new at this.)
I pulled both just high side first.
449 is the closest drop-in for 404, imho. R448 won't do freezers due to high compressor temperature, on the high side.
Good job nor cal Dave
Did I miss the new tool bag release? I like the wheels👍 nice job Dave
Link in description. Order up. Lol
Hey dave ya need to clean ya brazing tip dude haha nice work mate glad to c ya bs with all vacuum bs, we here in down under do the same mate, love ya videos keep em coming.will have to get over there 1 day have a beer .
Most definitely
4:19 - I _love_ your utility drawers, Dave! Do you have parts numbers?
@@garypoplin4599 I don’t but think there made by job box
I've come to the conclusion at least for the stuff I work on that if you convert to R449A that you have to change the txv too, you can't just adjust it like with previous replacement refrigerants.
What flux are you using? We only get the powder type here.
Re gas prices, currently around $419 for a 26lb bottle/jug, but its going up 35.59% at the end of the month to about $568!!!! Plus disposable bottles are banned here so also have to pay bottle rental after a few months.
The flux stay-silv
"and uuhhh were leakin some oil" - Captain Hazelwood
lol, Dave discovers compressors work better with power plugged in. 🤣 classic
Put a bit of water in the flux and stir. It will be allot easier to use.
Switching from R404A to R448 - 449A you have to switch the TXV head first and then you can convert the Systems to the R448-449A.
Hi Dave when you run nitrogen through unit where’s it venting doesn’t it pressurise when your brazing ? What flux do you use I’m new to this cheers adam
Out the receiver. Stay silv flux
Hey Dave what made you ditch the smurf boner hose , is it too much hassle to install ?
I guess for larger circuits it must be worth it but for smaller stuff maybe it's overkill .
I have some 3/8 and 1/4 regular vacuum hoses I still use. The blue one was not working for me. I gave it to a viewer.

I have a question. Do you need to put the solenoid magnet while you pull a vacuum on this type of unit? Great video
No as long as the evaporator fans are ON solenoid valve should be energized (open)
doing self vacuum without vacuum pump is right or wrong 😂
Hello sir, what is that zip tool bag with wheels? Looks awesome! Thank you for posting videos!

Why dont you flow nitrogen while unsweating. I always do to be sure not to create soot in the pipes. Just curious
What flux did you smear on the joints. Good job Nor-Cal Dave
Stay silv.
Yep, I be fluxxin too. Outs and ins go clean 🤨
So you’re done with the Smurf boner?! Who are you bro? You’ve changed man…😝😝
Is the vacuum pump just that much better or is it just not worth the time to swap out the hoses or were they not as advertised?
Hey good day to u bro how's the Guage working out for u
So far so good
Do you flush the system or you come back later for a drier change until the system Is clean?
👍👍👍

Hi bro from west Alabama
How much does it cost to replace the compressor?
37:40 hack and mo would have been done by 9! I mean it would have been full of air and moisture...
😂😂😂😂
448A similar to R22, not so much 404a. I/M dont have adjustable valve either
Hey Dave. Link for the rachet please?

Thanx
Was that a r404 box originally?
R-22
Need to keep some armaflex on the van🤣👊🏼
I have some but didn’t have 7/8”
It might be a dump question but im a newbie, please don't roast me. I did not see you use the solenoid magnet tool on the solenoid coil. How do you recover and vacuum through out the entire system? Please explain.
Not a dumb question
The solenoid is energized by the tstat at the evap coil. All open
Oh i see. I just got it confuse with the reversing valve on the heat pump because even when i have 24V to energize the coil but if when the system is low on refrigerant, there is not enough pressure differential to open the reversing valve. That why i thought the same principle will apply to the liquid line solenoid valve.
Good answer
Orlando Florida, 404A - $480.00 WO tax!
About the same
only $440 for a whole jug!? 404 over here in New Zealand is $400 a kilo. Jug is 10kg
Put some water in that flux... and, why wouldn't you toss that comp, in the trash while you are there... I did this ref, ac, for forty years... did a lot of commercial chillers 25, 50, 100 ton... BofA downtown Tucson Az...

Hey brother ,do you still work for the university maintenance?
Yep
What is the difference between the transducer and a low pressure switch?
A transducer converts a pressure to a voltage reading for a digital controller to interpret (such as EEV pressure transducers on Beacon and Intelligen systems).
A pressure switch is a mechanical switch that either opens or closes electric contacts at a low or high pressure event.
What is the brand of your gauge set?
Eliteck
I did not see you flow nitrogen when unbrazing the lines. Only when brazing in new lines.
