      @HVACRSurvival Rick as always great video. Couple of questions if you don't mind. I guess you are waiting for all the copper work to be completed before installing new filter driers. I did not notice a crank case heater on the old or new compressor or did I just miss that ?

    Your videos are super useful. I'm in the last month or so of trade school for HVACR and no matter how much you read about stuff in commercial or industrial refrigeration it's hard to actually comprehend it in action.

    that restrictor plate looks homemade, like someone made it to stop large failing compressor chunks from coming out. 🤣

      I believe it is there to reduce compressor discharge pulsation.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 9 місяців тому +1

      @@08airman yeah, it's mainly a stupendously implemented noise elimination tactic.
      the problem is when not sized right the compressor will run high head, have possible gas flow starvation to the system amongst many other things.
      I don't think see a way to check the pressures on either side of it, which should always be done.
      changing refrigerants could be a big problem and maybe that's what killed the last compressor. lol

    In 30 years never saw that plate in discharge. Tip to offer you and other comment readers. When changing semi-hermetic out take a couple minutes and quick pop old heads off to inspect valves. You can learn a lot about the failure no other way so you can correct system problems and not repeat failure. Past contractor was an idiot disabling part winding start.

    • @georgebrabec1749
      @georgebrabec1749 10 місяців тому +1

      @glens123 - How would you wire a 9 lead 460 volt motor for part winding start ? You can on a 6 lead, but not a 9 lead.

  • @thaunsch
    @thaunsch 10 місяців тому +1

    The lugs for the compressor wiring was described as "aluminum ordeal there." could you expand on that? Were these aluminum lugs or copper lugs with some sort of anti corrosion plating (nickel)? Aluminum has a greater expansion rate than copper thus creating a maintenance item requiring visits to ensure that the connections are secure. By the way, I worked in data centers and your trade kept the internet working. Big thanks!!!

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  10 місяців тому

      You’re correct I believe it was aluminum, it’s a poor choice of material.

    Why was the part winding start deleted and that relay that’s missing is for the crank case heat it is also used for a interlock with the C1 coil (compressor)
    If memory serves me right it’s labeled #10 or #12 on the wire CCH
    I got you Rick I know that unit like the back of my hand

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  10 місяців тому +1

      I’m ordering a crank case heater for it. It didn’t come with one and it didn’t have one prior. I’m not sure why they removed the contractor. I know that they ran a 100 amp circuit to it so I’ll check starting amps and running amps when it’s up and running and if I need to wire that other contractor in I will.

    Hey I had a quick question, I seen in one of your other videos and you called it the "captain hook" tip for brazing, where did you get that at? I need that in my life haha

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  10 місяців тому

      That’s made by Uniweld. I just bought the number nine. What you seen was the number five. The number nine lets me go up to 2 inch. You’ve got to have the 71 handle or the other handle. That’s the same as just different location on the two knobs. I got links for the handle down below the end, the description for everything, but that captain Hook, but you can find it on Amazon. It will fit on a Victor tort set, but it does not seal properly and will have issues staying lit.
