- Yes, the Honda Passport is back! It's back and it's FAST! Every Honda Passport is powered by a 280-horsepower 3.5-litre V6 engine, connected to a newly refined 9-speed automatic transmission (9AT). Among the highest standard horsepower in its class, Passport offers brisk acceleration and up to 5,000 pounds of towing capacity with the available towing package and all-wheel drive. The 9-speed transmission benefits from a number of refinements from its initial introduction, including second-gear starts under moderate loads, smoother shifts, upgraded hardware, and quicker response times.
Check out that video to find out how fast is the new Honda Passport AWD!

I can’t get that psychotic VTEC scream
out of my head!
Type R screamer style !
Im glad that its not just me haha
VTEEEEEEEEEEC
@@Kasefe80cc I own a 2019 passport elite and V6's don't sound like that. it's awesome :)
That is one mean sounds engine! Damn Honda definitely still has its “engine mojo” That sound is music to my ears 👍🏻👍🏻😎
Them J35s bro haha
It makes that beautiful suction sound at 5,500k RPMS. Honda did a good ass job with their new V6 lineup
You referring to the VTEC crossover? That’s the sound of cam profiles changing to provide a better air/fuel ratio for high-rpm power.
That 5200rpm switchover tho...
Wow...that showed the most distinct difference between VTEC off and VTEC on. I used to have a 2008 Accord and it was never that obvious.
Fuck Vtec just kicked in yo
This and the pilot both have dramatic cross overs on vtec and it’s awesome
Only thing is that Vtec kicks in wayy later
Ricardo Reyes most of Honda’s Vtec kicks in at 5,200 rpm, just like this passport does
It's 5450 for my 2016 Pilot Touring.
Screeches 🇯🇵🇺🇸 🇨🇦
Man, Vtec never gets old.. what a nice creation.
1:12 VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO
Love that engine. Sounds mean for a V6.
yeah
Love the vtec sound!!
It’s so freakin fast bro! 🔥Vtec kicked in yo!🚗💨
That VTEC crossover!
"...The Blazer is the family vehicle that actually appeals to the whole family, and for that reason it upsets the Honda on its home court."
I think the Motor Trend staff was weeping when they wrote that!
We don't think the Blazer is a competitor to this one!
Size is not the same at all, and off-road is not te be considered with the Blazer.
God we miss those old Blazer ZR2
Other than the horrible ground clearance why would the blazer suck off road in comparison to the Honda?
Kartboarder22G awd system
Just picked up a ‘22 Passport Elite and goddamn this engine pulls. Sounds like an OG NSX at full throttle…it’s kinda comical for a off road-y SUV. IDK if it’s quicker than my ‘19 CX5 turbo but it’s definitely quick!
I like the sound and power in the 5500 rpm 😍😍
VTEC
Daaamn that engine is so nice sounding 👌😍😎
I can imaging with a nice AEM cold air intake
Bruh, why would you put an COI on a family SUV?
@@jerbsherb4391 why not
@@angusbeef880 exactly
I would put a throttle body and a cold air intake for sure or at least I can an air filter. Put a K&N in air filter and a throttle body and you're gonna be blowing away stock!
Really a little sleeper.
I think I'll get my wife one.
@@Shelter93 is throttle body a common mod for these V6 engines?
Awesome vid. I have been waiting for an acceleration vid on the Passport. I was all set on a Subaru Forester Sport. I think I am going to have to test drive one of these Passports!
Dave G I was really close on buying the Forester too, but even on the Sport model it still have that slow 2.5 engine instead of the 2.0 Turbo 😕
And not to forget it has a CVT too.
@@GhastUnity I agree, I really wish they had put the Ascent 2.4T engine in the Forrester. However, I will say those Forester Sports are selling like crazy here in TX. Can't imagine how well they must be selling in the snow belt states
I love mine! Sounds great feels great and looks great.
Thank you for showing the gauges during startup. For some reason, I always like to see if the needles "sweep" or not!
Great vids!
Finally someone that does the same! I like seeing of it gauge sweeps or not.
If you turn traction control off, power is not cut. I can notice an interruption in power. It’s slight, but it makes a big difference. I love your new 0-60 and quarter mile format. I’m really looking forward to your 2020 passport test.
That V6 got a Big roar!
VTECC
Wow she sounds great
J series never disappoint😊
That's a really good sounding V6. Unfortunately the temperature gauge is the last thing im worried about. Wish it wasn't so big
im miata mike at least it has a temp gauge lots of modern cars don’t have them
f181234 but this gauge cluster is still undoubtedly the ugliest one I’ve seen in a while
@@alecw7063 I agree 100 percent it's awful
The J35Y6 seems to be the last of Honda’s VTEC V6 engines. The new Y8 which they are putting in the Pilot is DOHC with no VTEC to adhere to California’s emission regs. It’s just sad that the days of VTEC are waning.
That cross over is perfect 🤩 we have a 2023 passport and it has just the right amount of power. Honda did well on this one.
VTEC kicked in YO!
Yay! Subscribed
rock on!
I love this gauge cluster
It’s eh... I prefer analog gauges
From sound i didn't hear any problems with 9 speed shifting, so i assume the word "refined" really means they tried to help it...although the transmission has mechanical clutches in 2 shift points
My dad bought a pilot last year and i remember when he brought home we went for a ride in it. I wanted him to buy a 4Runner because they sound mean when they start. He started it up and I was like this car sounds so weak. He got to a straight away and floored it and I was like damn.
Honda power 💪🏻
I had been looking at a 4runner but after driving the passport i may have changed my mind
Jeeez that car is fast, that’s on par with a decent amount of common sport cars… go Honda!
My passport hit 120mph 2 months ago, but yesterday I test again and it just hit maximum at 114mph and rpm stop at 5000rpm (I did oil change last week at honda dealer). So, my question, did dealer set limit rpm on my passport? Or something wrong with my passport. Looking forward to hearing any answer and recommend.
love that this car has the vtec
Honda is so efficient with their smaller engines. I wonder how fast would hondas be if they had V8s.
My Civic has the same charecteristics with the 2.0NA, smooth, punchy and yet economical.
Chevrolet Cruze was tge complete opposite. Slow and heavy
Honda putting a V8 in one of their cars is a dream of my
I tried to keep up with one of these in my TSX. Let’s just say it didn’t go well for me.
That passport is hauling ASS in that corner😆👍👍
Love that sound?
1 second between full throttle and the launch of the car it's always do that with all automatic transmissions
manual transmission is more reactive at launch but for shifting gears quickly automatic gearbox is better
You can REALLY hear the VTEC kick in at around 5,400 - 5,000 rpm! Because VTEC.
What’s the second number?
Hope this is faster then a Ram 1500 hemi got a lot of guys at work thinking their Rams are the fastest vehicles on the street lol
vtec kicks in at 5k yo
Could you please explain the reading, you use a comma instead of a decimal point,so is that normal for Canada when showing fractions of a second? Is the 6,xxx # for 0-60 mph and the 7,xxx for kph?
it's our apps in our software that show the timecode like these. Does it really matter?
Car Question, I guess not to you. To me it a unit measure in thousands not a decimal equivalent in thousandth of a second.
Does a . Or a ? At the end of a sentence matter?
@@sportshot2789 comma is the Europeans' decimal point
@@sportshot2789 but I also want to know which one is the 0-60 time, 7,xxx or 6,xxx
That screaming VTEC drives me crazy
Best suv to date lmao
I mean I would ask for the Pilot Vtec but the passport is the same thing
Vtec @ 5500
Vtec rocks
VTEC sound kick ass 😁😁I can't help myself i just hate these gages! Would it kill Honda to put nice and regular ones, i mean it look like its coming out of an 80s video game
I was here.
That's one pissed off mosquito
Have u ever ever had any electric issues like the pilot?
Well, you can actually HEAR the problem in the recording. This popping crackling sound comes from the optical digital harness through speakers.
@@Sergei__v wow !
faster than rdx
Is vtec automatically on?
You can't turn it off
My 2021 Passport Elite doesn't take off nearly that fast. Perhaps because I only have just over 1,500 miles on it and coming from a Porsche Macan twin turbo V6....everything else seems slow. Lol
Try sport mode. The passport will naturally start in second gear on hard acceleration. It’ll start in first in sport mode
Vtec engagement at 5.5k rpm
You forgot to say “yo”
WOW HONDA SUPRISED THE ABSOLUTE SHIT OUT OF ME VTEC VTEC EVERY WHERE VTEC
lol they add vtec to this 3.5 n the honda Odyssey 3.5 but for the acura TLX a spec they don’t
I'm pretty sure the TLX a spec has VTEC. It may just have more sound dampening in the intake.
VTEC !!!!!!
And that kids is why we don’t replace NA V6 with Turbo 4🥲
That’s 5.9s adjusted for roll out
on your watch?
Honda Bassboort
Vtec at 5000 rpm!!
At the beginning, hope the engine wasn't cold 🤦
VTECCCC
Man next time please more RPM winding on park with a brand new engine. That’s the way to go!
It's a press car, it's legal
3200 km on it, surely broken in
Car Question that’s why no problem. :D
1:09
2019 passport vs explorer
It would be about the same even though Explorer has 300hp for the base model
Vtec in a V6
Goddamn! Fast as shit! I’m sold!
Correct the title
Throw the V6 and AWD in to an accord… oh LORT
Higher up in the rev range, it sounds very odd.
ITS CALLED VTEC YOU FOOL.... and it doesn't sound odd that sounds sexy
@@RaY_77W well, I agree with the sexy part but I have a 3.5L VTEC and it does not sound like that...
That is the VTEC crossover. It's way more noticeable on the newer Honda V6 engines.
I own this car and somehow I cant go nearly this fast.
Is it the awd version
@@ericl3272 Yes, AWD. Even in the sport mode, a bit lazy especially from a stop. Does it help if you use the paddle shifters?
And to think Honda could have made this a turbo four with a cvt like Subaru did
Jack Doyle maybe they should’ve because this is terrible on gas
f181234 the 9 speed is perfectly adequate and it doesn’t sap away all be fun of driving. And 22 mpg isn’t half bad for a 4200 pound SUV either
strange clouds I know right.
strange clouds I know right? CVT lol
strange clouds yes it is
I test drove it last week as I was really impressed by the reviews.. I was REALLY disappointed on how hard you must keep the gas pedal to the floor to get any acceleration.. it feels very heavy! And the brakes were horrible. I am now considering something else.
If you want a gas pedal that feels like your floor it at 20% input then get a Subaru.
A sprint booster will fix this and you would feel a big difference...,I’ve had one in 3 of my last Accords and it does the job !!
@@jrp8430 Thanks.. will check it out.
@@CarQuestion Yes, I have driven a Forester and it goes have a sensitive pedal. I just didnt need an AWD. But might reconsider.
NEEDS A TUNE TO KEEP VTEC KICKED IN
Working on it
Oh really?
Yeah, I said working on it.
Who's working on it?
Relax, it's being worked on.
Did it go 0-60 in 4 seconds or was that me?
You may have caught this when the cluster was in km/h
Honda pilot
Filmed in Mexico and edited with CGI
Hum why?
It’s a joke, the car went well above the highest speed limits in the USA but if you throw in a disclaimer like “filmed in Mexico and edited with CGI” it’s harder to convict in a court of law. I was just tryna be funny is all. There are some car channels on UA-cam that’ll throw that disclaimer in even tho it’s obvious they filmed their shenanigans somewhere in the US. Meant no offense or confusion. I liked this video and I really want a passport, I’ve been waiting for either Honda or Toyota to make a Rouge or Santa Fe sport sized SUV and Honda finally stepped up.
Did VW get wise ? Get a Tiguan. I'm dying to see it in your tests !!! I am scared to try on mine.
I love it. Obsoletely a home run by VW.
Bout as fast as my mini van
I can't stand to rev an engine for no reason. Seems to be the new thing to do in all the test videos is to rev the engine to red line to hear the exhaust note. Unless you have a Borla exhaust or FlowMasters.... please don't. I firmly believe it's bad to rev a cold engine. This one appears to be at normal temp, but I still cringe.
It’s not cold
It’s a car for testing
Stop being emotional
And we’re not even doing it top gear style ...
Then you do you and don’t rev an engine... Leave it to the professionals.
These clusters look awful.
BuffaloP32ACDM your momma
Looks like from a c4 corvette or delorean
It’s weird but cool at the same time, I kinda like it a bit
True, but these things absolutely drive amazing.
It aimt all that
so damn slow it needs a vtec lol
You’re mean :(
A UA-cam Channel with no name no i’m not wtf chill out
It already has vtec…
