As someone purchasing a used 2017 Pilot in 2024…this is the absolute most comprehensive review I have watched. I’m late to the party 7 years in the making but this was a superb video for what I wanted to learn
I used to work for Japanese Automaker HQ at production control, marketing, and after service department as a manager with about 11 staff. Your review and analysis on every angle is absolutely the best I have ever seen. Great job Alex. What a great review!! I enjoy everyone of your reviews and keep on the good work!
By far the best video reviews available! I like the way you tell us the low points and disadvantages of a tested vehicle so that it's clear to us but not alienating to the suppliers.
I have to say that Alex has the best video car review on UA-cam. The detail on the car that is being reviewed is amazing. Thank you Alex. I really enjoy watching your videos.
After a 1 year review of 3 row suvs and test driving 7 I purchased a Honda Pilot Elite today. It is not a perfect car but the pros seemed to outweigh the con. Pros 1. Space. Very nice size for its footprint. Much bigger inside than an MDX. Great storage areas throughout. third row livable. 2. Drivability Handles well, great vision lines, braking above average 3. Transmission did not bother me perhaps they have done some reprogramming on the 2017s? 4. IIHS top safety pick + 5. I have had a 07 Pilot for 10 years with no problems 6. I am 6'5" and I fit well in this car Cons 1. Idle stop start is terrible. I will turn it off when I start the car. 2. Lane keep assist is intrusive on curvy Blue Ridge Mountain roads in my area so may turn that off as well 3. Shifter unnecessary but I think I will get used to it. 4. From some angles really, really looks like a mini van 5. No electric park brake on elite trim
What an incredible review!! I bought a Pilot recently and it's a great car, perfect for me and my family. Alex, I have to say I've watched hundreds of reviews on UA-cam but yours is by far the best! Great job !!!
Just found your channel and it is phenomenal. Your attention to detail and the ability to jump to specific portions of video with selections on the side is thoughtful and convenient. You're my new go-to car guy!!
Wow. I saw multiple videos on this vehicle while researching it to possibly purchase. I'm a first time viewer and I have to say you know your stuff. So intelligent and well structured. (Reminds me of MKBHD's channel for electronics). Great work!
Hey there Alex, I've been watching your videos for a long time now, and I have to congratulate you on your excellent work. Your videos are clear, concise, and I enjoy how you also review a lot of hybrid/electric vehicles. Keep up the good work
I really like the 'report card' at the top of the main screen. It's a great visual aid as you drive down the road discussing the ride, etc. Keep it! The smaller two cameras showing you speaking and the steering wheel/instrument cluster seemed a little distracting. Awesome reviews, Alex. Thanks!
An important thing to note in the comparison of the Pilot and the Acura MDX is th eMDX is much smaller inside. Passenger volume in the MDX is 132 cubic feet while the Pilot is 151. the MDX has one of the smallest interior volumes in the three row SUV segment. I have test driven both and I can tell you the MDX feels small inside.
Alex, thanks for your validation on the Touring trim level! I have the 2016 touring and I absolutely love it; as you said I like having the bench seat in the middle for extra passenger capacity and didn't need the few extra bells and whistles on the elite. It is a fantastic crossover and we will keep it for many years.
I gotta admit that Honda will have a home run with the redesigned Pilot. The top trim levels have great options and accessories. The fully optioned Elite trim level is half-step below the Acura MDX.
I've had the 2016 Pilot Touring for a year and love the look, but have had MAJOR problems. Transmission issues (9 speed), constant issues with radio, BT, navi, cameras, loose roof rack and safety features (auto braking) concerns. Honda has replaced the roof attachments, the whole dash touch screen and done multiple software updates. Still having electrical issues that Honda can't resolve. You did a great job in the video, but I would encourage an update due to so many online complaints with issues similar and even worse than mine.
Sir Alex, I am most comfortable to hear your reviews about new cars than other videos! Excellent job there Alex! You take care about almost everything in shorter period of time. Well, I feel that Acura MDX and Honda Pilot do not have any competitions out there.. Pilot is more practical and "common man luxury vehicle"...So Why I said "common man luxury" because it provides the fact that servicing and maintenance are reasonable than the luxury brands.. I drive Toyota and Lexus, both has same engines and few other commons, but of course Lexus has more significantly luxurious interior than Toyota Camry/Corolla etc.. But when it's out the door and using Lexus (e.x. ES330), it tears the pocket lot more than Toyota in term of maintenance and service etc.. Friends, Please do not get offended with this, but that was just my opinion.. I still have the black/beige colored Lexus ES330 that I driver seriously rough on roads and "touch wood", it does not give any complains so far.!! The best luxurious, bit reasonable, comfort, convenience and better handling luxurious sedan on the road.. Its the 2005 year manufactured but I still feel brand new in term of handling, smoothness and style.. :-) I Love my Lexy ES330... I AM in serious confusion to choose between 2017 Toyota Highlander and 2016 Honda Pilot. Highlander has sharp style, more dynamic looking personality and very good interior in the class, whereas, this pilot does fit more of these but not sure how it will be in term of long lasting and durability.. We surely have great reliable vehicle and that is highlander, but for the third row and cargo, pilot wins this slot.. Well, I do not need third row as of now as we have only four persons in family, but when family grows and so does child, we need more room for cargo etc.. So, Guys, I will go for Honda Pilot over the highlander thinking practicality of this vehicle and the 9 speed transmission, though, 2017 Toyota Highlander will have 8 speed... confused here.. also, 2017 HL will have all "Honda sensing" kind of features which will be standard on all trims.. confused here too.. :-)) That's my story out there.. I will keep my study and research until I'll have most basis covered on these two top SUVs comparisons... So till then, have a nice time and be safe on road!
Dude, you're very simultaneous. You're sound so knowledgeable. I hope you test drive the 6-speed too. Most people who can afford the vehicle goes to the EX-L for sure so I was hoping someone will test drive it.
Honda is known for it's safety and added a lot crash prevention features that were not discussed in this video! People hauling around family members are more concerned about safety than the acceleration in most cases. Many of the American cars do not score well in overlap front collision testing and that should be mentioned when positioning these cars.
+Terence Francis What are you talking about? Alex's reviews are one of THE best. His reviews are clear and in-depth. In fact i bought my car after watching one of his reviews.
Hello Alex. We really enjoyed your Reviews on UA-cam. You are the best one on the internet so far and we know there's alot of people agree with that. Love your show, we're just wondering when are you going to do a review on a 2017 Honda CR-V.
I test drove both the 2016 pilot and 2015 pathfinder. I was very happy with the Pathfinder due to the material used in the cabin which was alot less hard plastics than the pilot, the amount of options for the money and the ride compliance. It was way more child friendly and the access to that back row its way better n easier than that pilot. It was fantastic. I testes the 6 speed transmission pilot and i thought it was adequate. However very disappointed the moment i touch that lever to shift to drive i thought i was driving a 10k vehicle vs an EXL navi thats worth 35k+!!It also didnt like that u had to go to the top model to get the blindspot monitoring for this kind of vehicle? In regards to seating, it is un-realistic to fit 3 adults back there! 2 adults can fit just ok for not a long period. The 8 seat passenger marketing is best suited for kids only. The other thing i found as a safety issue was how intrusive the emergency bake was as I was driving.Very dangerous in frontal impact
It’s absolutely worth mentioning the Elite trim additions over the Touring trim like the very large pano glass and the comfort options that are added. Not everyone needs the 8 passenger vs the 7 and personally the third row will be folded down a vast majority of its use over time. With 4 passengers seeing the road there is something to be said about using the Elite with the rear folded configuration and those nice captains seats in the second row
I wonder why 3rd row on this is 6/10 and 2017 Highlander was rated 7/10. Clearly looks to me like it should have been more like 5/10 on highlander and 7/10 on the pilot
As someone who just shopped for and purchased a 2016 Pilot Elite, the only inaccuracy in this video I noticed is how much the closest MDX to the Pilot Elite really costs. The MDX with Advance and Entertainment is the closest to the Elite with these differences: Full LED headlights on the MDX ("jewel eye"), lumbar on the passenger seat, power adjustment to the steering wheel, the "Integrated Dynamics System (IDS) which adjusts steering feel, throttle response, and shift points depending upon setting), and (I think) power fold side mirrors with auto dimming. The 2016 MDX is not available with 2nd row captain chairs, and there are fewer USB ports and no 115 AC in the second row...Also, the heated steering wheel is a $500 accessory across the MDX line, before installation - even with Advance package. The MDX SH-AWD with Advance and Entertainment is currently listed at an MSRP of $57,230 without accessories, $10K more than the Pilot Elite, which has 10 hp less, but "runs on regular gas". The 2017 MDX refresh will rectify some of the $10k difference with 2nd row captain chairs in the Advance package and more media ports. ...oh, and it's bring back exposed dual exhaust tips. When we test drove the vehicles, there is no denying the MDX has a more luxurious feel to it; but we did not see it as worth $10+K more luxurious.
Apparently you didn't click on "read more" on my comment above that stated the 2017 MDX will rectify some of the $10K difference. There were no 2017 MDXs available when we bought two weeks ago and the 2017 MDX "build your own" didn't exist online....Glad to see Acura's pricing hold the line with the upgrades - still close to 10K difference - whether the differences are worth it is subjective. MDX is nicer no doubt, but $10K nicer? That's debatable.
I know the Durango is well balance, offer more power and more space on third row seats. But how is the Durango reliability?? I think the Pilot has more to offer than the Highlander. I like the flat floor folder down seats.(more functional for cargo usage)
Not having a visible exhaust pipe(s) is enough to turn me away. Love the front but the rear without those exhaust just looks bloated and like a space ship or something else. Wish they hadn't done away with that. An optional traditional second row that sits 3 would be nice too. Alex you're amazing. You're my go to person for detailed reviews, so many hours throughout nursing school watching your vids.
My wife has been shopping for a new vehicle and had been leaning towards the Acura MDX, until she heard you mention 91 Octane gas, now she's looking at the 2016 Pilot
My job allowed me to surf the Internet from 2000 on, the number of sites I've been too is astronomical compared most people. I don't know how I missed this site but wow! the Nitty Gritty comparisons on the Fly is amazing. Talk about a Time Saver.
Thank you, Alex. It looks like it is worth checking out the 8-seater version after watching this video. i will most likely leasing it because I'm leery about Honda VCM technology.
I have a 2017 EX and love it it doesn’t get enough credit for it’s off road abilities it’s not going to out perform a jeep off road but it definitely is more capable than people think just look up Honda Pilot goldmine hill
very thorough review. it's confirmed that a mdx would be a better decision vs the pilot even though i like the front of this car instead. some dealers in so cal also want $3k on top of msrp for the elites and tourings! they are also stingy on discounting the ex and ex-l. i've already got written quotes for $5k off a mdx sh-awd w tech package.
Hi Alex. Can you please do a full review on the Subaru Ascent and compare it to other 3 row SUVs. Also can you include another review dimension in your reviews - Cost of Maintenance. Once we buy a car if the cost of maintenance is high then it really should be a point to consider when buying. Thanks for all the great info you provide us buyers.
very well detailed review. i have seen pretty much all reviews here on youtube for the 2016 honda pilot. this is the best review of all. this is a totally professional review. thanks for sharing it with the world. i mean oh my god what a review. and i agree with you on the skipping of the elite model. i am not a fan of captain chairs. i do hope however, for future models can honda incorporate the panoramic sun roof for the touring model.
Great review. Very detailed. I think the Pilot is a great vehicle, Im just very disappointed the Elite only comes with 7 passenger seating. The Touring does have 8 passenger seating but i wouldnt get some of the extra features, like the blind spot assist, cross traffic monitoring and my favorite, the ventilated seats. I hope that changes next year.
Thanks for another great review. I was hoping that the Elite would be priced well below the MDX, but it seems that we might still go with the MDX over the Pilot Elite. Which MDX trim is most similar to the 2016 Pilot Elite?
Alex, your reviews are so dense in details, I bearly can keep up. Your commentaries are always no-nonsese, practical, technical, but, NEVER FUNNY or entertaining. I am not sure it´s a bad or good thing though. If I want fun I just watch TFL. That said, I think would love to see you making this type of reviews on different models of spaceships, when the time comes. I can imagine you comparing boosters, CO2 filters, human habitats, propulsion speeds, or anti-gravitational shields. That would be fun! keep up the good work until then.
Thx for the great review. But I found it a bit long and confused, regarding the comparison to the competition section. I think the comparison points you made, should be in a separate video. Maybe keep the reviews on point to the vehicle and a separate comparison video. Thanks again. I really enjoy watching your reviews.
Very informative video! I wonder how you'd compare the Durango AWD with 6 cylinder Citadel trim to this Pilot? The gas mileage on the v-8 Durango is too poor for my tastes.
The zf-9 speed should use a cone clutch to synchronize shaft speeds on the dog clutch 4-5 shift. The rough dog clutch engagement is a major design flaw. Until that gets fixed, the ZF 9 speed should be avoided. The durango, a true RWD SUV with the superior RWD ZF 8 speed and AWD optional, is a much better buy.
Hey Alex, love your videos! I had a question. I'm looking for a three row crossover/SUV and I'm considering the Pilot. I went to check out the Pilot EX-L and found a decent amount of hard touch plastic on the doors and the dash, like you said here. While the rooming was palatial everywhere, the quality of some of the interior really bugged me. I also went to check out a certified 2014 Infiniti QX60 with the tech package and was much more pleased with the quality of the interior but I felt the CVT transmission was very sluggish. I then looked at a certified MDX and was satisfied with the quality but was disappointed by the third row space I also went to look at a Certified Mercedes-Benz Gl450 and it had the best third row and best quality of materials. However, the GL450 is around $45,000. The QX60 was $44,000 but the dealership negotiates well, the MDX was $42,000 and I'm sure I can whittle the price of the Pilot to around $33,000 because of prior purchases from this dealership and other perks. I was just curious on your take on my situation. Which one would you go with? Thanks, and keep up the good work!
what i like about cars is traction wide tires and suspension capable cars like the bmw or Mercedes gle, if only Honda pilot would just compliment their cars with wide tires it would have be a +, its a nice car but it lacks same thing a little more traction and chassis system, shift/lever gear and not forgetting hand rest very very weak for an expensive vehicle, the idea is to drive a vehicle that feels like pilot based vehicle with hand rest and cockpit like pilot car "my goodness".
I am considering this vehicle as my next car. I drive a 17 year old GMC Sierra that I worry about though it shows no signs of slowing down, just age. I read reviews that the 9-speed transmission is either difficult to adjust to, or isn't quite right. The Hondalink Infotainment is also said to be slow and unintuitive. The infotainment system is important to me and the Pilot is to get Android Auto and Apple car play in the 2017 model year. Would you consider either or both possible deal breakers when considering the Pilot? I can fix the transmission issue by just buying the 6-speed EX-L model and I can get either the Navigation model or the Honda Sensing model. The Pilot doesn't get both unless you buy the Touring. AAuto will let me use google maps, so that's not an issue. I've heard quirks of the Honda Sensing package, What did you think of that?
Thanks for the review Alex. You did a great job. What did you think of the center console comfort as an armrest between the two front seats? I was wondering about that since it has the sliding cover in the middle.
Alex: I'm disappointed you did not mention the Ford Flex. Comparing a 2015 Ford Flex Limited 2WD with a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring 2WD with res and navi: Flex is at least $1000 cheaper comparably equipped and often has incentives of several thousand dollars. Flex has standard HID headlights, power folding mirrors and auto park. Passenger volume: Flex 155.8; Pilot 151.7 Fr Head: Flex 41.8; Pilot 39.5 Fr Leg: Flex 40.8; Pilot 40.9 2nd Head: Flex 40.5; Pilot 39.9 2nd Leg: Flex 44.3; Pilot 38.4 3rd Head: Flex 38.7; Pilot 38.9 3rd Leg: Flex 33.3; Pilot 31.9 Cargo volume to Seat 1; Flex 83.2; Pilot 83.8 Cargo volume to Seat 2: Flex 43.2; Pilot 46.8 Cargo volume to Seat 3: Flex 20; Pilot 16.5 As a Flex owner who owned a previous version Pilot, I can tell you that the Flex is a superior vehicle, even though the current generation is really about 2 years old. The Pilot has no more room, costs more, gets slightly better gas mileage and looks like a SUV. The Flex continues to be a sleeper driven by people who really shop cars. BTW, your review of the new MB S550 was superb! Your best yet.
+isaac akakpo Huh? He mentions the highlander alot. He said it is smaller and has a smaller 3rd row and a smaller cargo area, more comfortable 2nd row, better infotainment, better feel, etc, had a 4 cylinder std not v6. You must not have watched the whole video.
Hi Alex, Greetings from Boston, MA. Is Honda going to address the FM radio issue that all the new Pilot owners are reporting? Lot of static and fading in all the FM channels. Will Honda provide a firmware update to permanently disable the Idle-Stop function that is too slow and annoying?
Awesome review as always, Alex. What's your feeling on the potential negative effect of cylinder deactivation on a thermal engine where you'd have a heat variation between working and non working cylinders? Personally I have concerns with the longevity of the engine with features such as auto start-stop for instance. I can't believe an engine would "enjoy" the heat/cool cycles during a lot of such changes while running. Keep up the great work! Cheers.
I suppose I'm just the odd man out here. We looked at the Pilot when we were shopping 3 row crossovers. We ended up with the Ford Flex, and I don't think we will ever consider anything else. They're selling poorly, so I figure that our strategy will only make it for one more vehicle.
Hi Alex , for a long time i wanna to ask the question you, along with every car reviewer out there . Everything is awesome for what u doing and all the details u are giving us , i love it. b But there one thing as a car ownercone to mind , Why you guys never mentioned the reliability ,dependability of a one brand like Honda and how is compare to the other Kia/Hyundai junk that have little to none engenering. Honda can put a heating steering wheel, and cooled seat but Honda /Acura has R@D that wont embarrassed theyre name.
Great review as usual. I am not a Honda guy at all however I really have to consider this when I am ready to upgrade from my 08 CX9. Mazda will really have to up their game with the next redesign. With that said how does this Pilot compare with a Flex. The Flex is my fav vehicle like this. I do realize that the Flex is long in tooth but I still find it most appealing in this segment. What are you thoughts Alex.
Keith Taylor I would compare the redesigned 2016 Ford Explorer with this 2016 Honda Pilot. Here are two sites that provide comparisons between both vehicles, one from Honda and one from Ford: www.jacksonford.com/blog/2016-ford-explorer-vs-2016-honda-pilot/ and www.planethonda.com/clp-2016-honda-pilot-vs-2016-ford-explorer. Main points: Explorer has 3 engine options, Pilot has 1 engine option. Honda has a 9-speed transmission vs Ford's 6-speed SelectShift transmission. Both can tow up to 5000 lbs. Both offer active safety features. Explorer has 7.51 inches of ground clearance while the Pilot has 7.3 inches. It's not a big difference and most people won't be taking these vehicles off-road. I would go test drive both and see which one suits your needs best. The Explorer has been the best-selling vehicle in this segment so far, let's see if they can keep it up.
Keith Taylor I like the practicality of the Flex a great deal (I actually like the bread van looks too) but as you say it is getting a little old. The Pilot compares quite well to the V6 Flex.
Alex, I have a 7 yo and 5 yo and a dog. We cant make out mind between Honda Pilot Elite or Volvo XC90. We want to purchase new and keep the vehicle for minimum 5 years. Which one would you go with? Thanks and love the videos.
As someone purchasing a used 2017 Pilot in 2024…this is the absolute most comprehensive review I have watched. I’m late to the party 7 years in the making but this was a superb video for what I wanted to learn
Same here, thinking to sell my 2018 honda hr-v and purchase this one, family grows, my current car don't haha
Continues to be the gold standard for "normal person" car reviews. Covers the things that actually matter to a car buyer, especially families.
I used to work for Japanese Automaker HQ at production control, marketing, and after service department as a manager with about 11 staff. Your review and analysis on every angle is absolutely the best I have ever seen. Great job Alex. What a great review!! I enjoy everyone of your reviews and keep on the good work!
I used to work for german automaker and totally agree with you
though no comparison with the highlander was made, Alex is still the best reviewer on UA-cam by far. ....always worth my time.
By far the best video reviews available! I like the way you tell us the low points and disadvantages of a tested vehicle so that it's clear to us but not alienating to the suppliers.

2. Lane keep assist is intrusive on curvy Blue Ridge Mountain roads in my area so may turn that off as well
3. Shifter unnecessary but I think I will get used to it.

Awesome review as always. Just the amount of detail and effort you take is simply unbelievable. Keep it up.
Incredible review, as always. There is nothing quite like it on UA-cam. Thanks.

Mark Kochenderfer so true - we just traded in our MDX for a Pilot for this reason. Much roomier, especially for car seats and rear facing car seats.
You really do have the best reviews! very detailed and a lot of info comparing other similar vehicles.

Great explanation of how the 9 speed transmission feels.
Why does everyone test drive the top models? How about a mid-range vehicle for us regular folks?
Retired Top43 just search up the Exl review, that’s what I did and am happy with my 2018 exl Honda sense.

Hi Alex,
I love your car reviews as I find them very informative. :)
Excellent video. I think I've made my choice now between this and the Highlander, all thanks to you!
Really looking forward to you doing a review on the Odyssey when it's refresh comes out next year. Definitely still the 8-passenger king of the road.
I've been waiting for your review! If the fuel economy is true to low to mid 20's, then this will be my next lease or purchase!
best reviews i have seen on youtube, you do a great job Alex! thanks
how can you grade the 3rd row lower than the Highlander or even worse the cx-9!! the Mazda cx-9 is technically unliveable for even bigger kids.
The restyled 2017 Acura MDX offers captains chairs
www.acura.com/build-price/mdx
Apparently you didn't click on "read more" on my comment above that stated the 2017 MDX will rectify some of the $10K difference. There were no 2017 MDXs available when we bought two weeks ago and the 2017 MDX "build your own" didn't exist online....Glad to see Acura's pricing hold the line with the upgrades - still close to 10K difference - whether the differences are worth it is subjective. MDX is nicer no doubt, but $10K nicer? That's debatable.
Alex is the best. I only watch his reviews.
Excellent review and comparative analysis! Thank you.
My wife has been shopping for a new vehicle and had been leaning towards the Acura MDX, until she heard you mention 91 Octane gas, now she's looking at the 2016 Pilot
91 Octane is recommended; but, not required for the 2014-2022 MDX. The minimal octane is 87 for the MDX.
My job allowed me to surf the Internet from 2000 on,
the number of sites I've been too is astronomical compared
most people.

Great review, no stone left unturned!
Alex,
I also appreciate all the love you're giving the Dodge Durango :^}
Great review , thanks for being thorough !
Thanks for another great review Alex!
Great video. Thank you Alex.
Surely you mean Enclave, not Encore, on your list of 8 passenger crossovers.
Great review as always! You're the best
Best 🇺🇸 car reviews, Alex! Very in details
Thanks for another great review.
I was hoping that the Elite would be priced well below the MDX, but it seems that we might still go with the MDX over the Pilot Elite.
Which MDX trim is most similar to the 2016 Pilot Elite?
One of the best reviews. Thanks much
Alex, your reviews are so dense in details, I bearly can keep up.
Hi Alex, how high is the dead foot rest on the Pilot? Also, would you mind commenting on that in your reviews in the driving position comment section?
The zf-9 speed should use a cone clutch to synchronize shaft speeds on the dog clutch 4-5 shift. The rough dog clutch engagement is a major design flaw. Until that gets fixed, the ZF 9 speed should be avoided. The durango, a true RWD SUV with the superior RWD ZF 8 speed and AWD optional, is a much better buy.
Alex, can you please comment on the new Pilot's road/driving feel when you engage the nine speed transmission's sport mode?
Very thorough thank you. I’m looking at a 2017 Pilot although now I may be looking at a Durango.
Very detailed as always.👍 I do have a quick question, overall how does highlander compare with Pilot?
not sure when the Mazda cx9 will be available but looking forward to your review and comparison of that one.
Nicely done, Guv'Na! Great production :)
what i like about cars is traction wide tires and suspension capable cars like the bmw or Mercedes gle, if only Honda pilot would just compliment their cars with wide tires it would have be a +, its a nice car but it lacks same thing a little more traction and chassis system, shift/lever gear and not forgetting hand rest very very weak for an expensive vehicle, the idea is to drive a vehicle that feels like pilot based vehicle with hand rest and cockpit like pilot car "my goodness".
Oh man, You are my valuable advisor upon buying a new car !
Alex: I'm disappointed you did not mention the Ford Flex.
Comparing a 2015 Ford Flex Limited 2WD with a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring 2WD with res and navi:
Flex is at least $1000 cheaper comparably equipped and often has incentives of several thousand dollars.
Flex has standard HID headlights, power folding mirrors and auto park.
Passenger volume: Flex 155.8; Pilot 151.7
Fr Head: Flex 41.8; Pilot 39.5
Fr Leg: Flex 40.8; Pilot 40.9
2nd Head: Flex 40.5; Pilot 39.9
2nd Leg: Flex 44.3; Pilot 38.4
3rd Head: Flex 38.7; Pilot 38.9
3rd Leg: Flex 33.3; Pilot 31.9
Cargo volume to Seat 1; Flex 83.2; Pilot 83.8
Cargo volume to Seat 2: Flex 43.2; Pilot 46.8
Cargo volume to Seat 3: Flex 20; Pilot 16.5
As a Flex owner who owned a previous version Pilot, I can tell you that the Flex is a superior vehicle, even though the current generation is really about 2 years old.
The Pilot has no more room, costs more, gets slightly better gas mileage and looks like a SUV. The Flex continues to be a sleeper driven by people who really shop cars.
BTW, your review of the new MB S550 was superb! Your best yet.
Kevin Anderson The biggest reason of course is that the Flex doesn't seat 8
very surprising that you did not mention the Toyota highlander which may be the closest comparison to the Honda to most shoppers
+isaac akakpo I reference the Toyota throughout and give a synopsis of the comparison around 23:00
Great video. We are in the market for this segment.
props for good use of "belies" around 1:20
What would you advise me with? The pilot or odyssey? I have 6 children. Can you also do a video on SUV vs vans. Thanks
Hi Alex,
Greetings from Boston, MA.
Is Honda going to address the FM radio issue that all the new Pilot owners are reporting? Lot of static and fading in all the FM channels. Will Honda provide a firmware update to permanently disable the Idle-Stop function that is too slow and annoying?
I'm waiting for the 24 seater pilot
lmao
Get an airplane
Awesome review as always, Alex.
What's your feeling on the potential negative effect of cylinder deactivation on a thermal engine where you'd have a heat variation between working and non working cylinders?
Personally I have concerns with the longevity of the engine with features such as auto start-stop for instance. I can't believe an engine would "enjoy" the heat/cool cycles during a lot of such changes while running.
Keep up the great work!
Cheers.
+Coraga 1 good point!
Mario Dalla Riva It really isn't a problem, the engine is designed for this and Honda specifically has been doing VCM engines since 20032
Mario Dalla Riva Very nice question
+Alex on Autos Wow are we that far into the future? - I fell asleep in 2015 and woke up in 20032 - Yikes!!!
I suppose I'm just the odd man out here. We looked at the Pilot when we were shopping 3 row crossovers. We ended up with the Ford Flex, and I don't think we will ever consider anything else. They're selling poorly, so I figure that our strategy will only make it for one more vehicle.
Alex, thank you for the review. Is there a video that would explain the 2016 AWD system on the Pilot? Thank you.
Hey Alex, when do you plan on doing a review of the 2017 Honda Pilot? Thx
Best review i have ever seen,,
thank you man you are the best.
Can you please make a comparison video for Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot.
Damn that was thorough, great review!
Nice review Alex, appreciate it.
Hi Alex , for a long time i wanna to ask the question you, along with every car reviewer out there . Everything is awesome for what u doing and all the details u are giving us , i love it. b
But there one thing as a car ownercone to mind , Why you guys never mentioned the reliability ,dependability of a one brand like Honda and how is compare to the other Kia/Hyundai junk that have little to none engenering. Honda can put a heating steering wheel, and cooled seat but Honda /Acura has R@D that wont embarrassed theyre name.
Applause for the stop.
Does it still use belt drive for the valves or have they switched to chains ? Thats a big expense at 60,000 miles if they haven't.
Great review, How does it compare to the 2016 Ford Explorer? Thanks
