  • How To - Adjust Spring Tension for the DW (Drum Workshop) 3000 Series Hi Hat Stand (Model DWCP3500T).
    This adjustment Dramatically improves the Hi Hat Pedal Response in this DW 3000 Series Hi Hat Stand. Out of the box this Hi Hat Stand was at the loosest spring setting and my hi hat was causing the pedal to fall all the way to the bottom position (So I had no lifting of the hi-hat at all). I was only able to get the hi hat to lift if I separated them quite a bit 4-5 inches or more.
    However even with that there was a sluggish return response from the pedal. Something I read in some of the reviews for this hi hat stand in particular.
    This adjustment is the ultimate "fix" for these problems. It allows for your to position your hi hats as close as you like or as far apart as you like and the pedal (rod) response is instantaneous. There is zero lag/sluggishness with the pedal after you adjust this spring tension.
    www.dwdrums.com/hardware/3000/...
    The adjustment literally takes about 10 seconds to do, but there was no manual with my hi-hat stand from DW (And I purchased it straight from DW) -- and I didn't see one readily online.
    So I thought this video may help some people who just didn't think the stand had an adjustment and are having these issues with their stand.

    I’m using 18” hihats and was afraid this dw 3000 hihat stand wasn’t going to work . But after adjusting it works perfect . Thanks for making this video

    I was super passed at my hi hatcstand because the spring tension was too low for my td27. Now it's much better!

    I replaced the 3 links on the chain with aluminum square stock grounded on both ends to fit in between the links and now my DW3000 is so responsive plus did this spring tension adjustment also. Thanks for the tutorial

    I just bought it new at Guitar Center and just unpacked and put it together. You're correct, it does not have a manual which is why I'm on YT. I just bought a new Roland TD30K Vpro and I needed a hi hat stand. I'd been playing a cheap ass Simmons, the one with the blue rack, for the last four years and yeah, I was ready for an upgrade. The kit should be here tomorrow and I can't wait to put my new v11's on this hi hat stand. If, after making this adjustment, I still have any delay, I will be taking it back. Regardless, you video was helpful so thanks for posting.

      So how did the hi hat stand work? Did you use it? Take it back for another?

    would you recommend this Hi hat still? is it durable etc? i'm picking up a roland td27 kv and would rather not fork out a lot of money for the 9500tb hi hat

    thanks for the great video! one question, does the inner rod (where the vh11 is lock to by the clutch) rotate? i.e. does this setup stop the vh11 from rotating when you play? many thanks in advance

    • @GuessTech
      @GuessTech  6 років тому

      No, not by itself - This is for tension/rebound problems only. -- However, I do know what you are referring to -- where the VH11 HI Hat spins around as you play and you don't get the proper trigger in the right place as it shifts around.
      There are a few things you can do. You can take apart your hi-hat stand and look for an adjustment to tighten the inner rod so that Rod will not 'spin' around -- And those who cannot find this in their hi-hat, or don't want to even bother with this will go get a proper sized 'nut' and put it on the Rod and this stops the spinning. 7mm Is a popular size that seems to work for many hi hats.
      I have this same issue -- I will figure it out for this precise stand and this VH11 and video it for others having the same issue in the future.

    Hey, what if you accidentally do take that drum key nut that you mention at the two minute mark, all the way out. I didn’t see any place to screw it back into now.

    Hey, I've got this stand also, does the foot pedal fold back up? Am I missing something?

    • @GuessTech
      @GuessTech  6 років тому

      The Foot Pedal indeed folds up -- However, the foot pedal has nothing to do with this adjustment. Maybe you could clarify what exactly you are having trouble understanding from what I showed in the video and perhaps what you are trying to accomplish?
      You are using a DW 3000 Hi-Hat (2 legged) stand right?

    what if you take out the nut, how do you put it back? tried everything, i have a similar hi-hat

    • @GuessTech
      @GuessTech  7 років тому +1

      I'd have to take it apart to see. However,.. my best guess would be to take the hat (s) off.. lay it on it's side so gravity isn't messing with things -- line everything up while it's sideways (or on a table) and then thread the bolt back in.

    hi,
    what hi hat cymbal combination are you using?

    • @GuessTech
      @GuessTech  7 років тому

      I"m using a Roland TD-25 KV V-Drums (Electronic Kit) -- It's one of their upper lines of the E-kits just below the TD-30 (top of the line) but with same 'brain' if you will. So as you probably know the hi hats and cymbals are whatever I want them to be and they sound quite accurate -- Though I prefer a thinner 14" set of Zildian hi-hats a medium Ride and usually mix Zildian and Sabian throughout (2 crashes, splash, ride, hi-hat(s)) -- With acoustic anyhow.

      thanks - i have an alesis kit w/cymbal triggers and thought that yu might be using the goedrum adapter that is the option to the new alesis hi hat pro combination... trying to figure out what to buy.

    • @GuessTech
      @GuessTech  7 років тому

      No, I'm using the TD-25 module with the VH-11 Hi-hat (Mechanical) which is why I have the DW Hi Hat stand going to it on my TD-25KV Roland Kit.
      I have a friend with an Alesis DM7 kit he enjoys it as he didn't want to spend the 3+ thousand for a kit like the Roland TD-25KV. The trigger bank sounds will be different 'names' on our kits so it's hard to comment precisely -- Though I do have a custom kit I picked through all the various hi-hat, snare, toms, crashes, ride, kick, etc sounds I prefer over any other pre-set and have been using that with my band for our recordings thus far.

    There is literally no possibility you can adjust it a "tenth of a millimeter" with your hands. :) I'm just giving you grief.

    i don't like how this pedal is making noise unlike i was lead to believe. Feels very flimsy compared to the 5000 series unlike i was led to believe aswel.
    the fact these don't come with manuals is atrocious especially for an expensive product like this.
    if its so obvious what to do why is it so hard to make a manual!? i hurt myself trying to figure this out and also lost a part at one point
    the pedal slips out of place very easily with every press/kick.
    i'm starting to feel DW products are overrated.
