  • THE GOOD AND THE BEAUTIFUL MATH 4 REVIEW | Homeschool Math Curriculum Review and Flip Through
    In this video, I talk about how "The Good and the Beautiful's Simply Math 4" is working for my daughter so far. We have really struggled with finding the right math curriculum for her, and I think that we have found it (for now!) 😊 This math has all the components that make me happy (video lesson that teach her the concepts in a way that holds her attention and explains it well to her AND enough practice with new concepts and review of the former concepts). She enjoys the video lesson, beautiful workbook, and variety of questions.

    We are brand new to homeschooling. We pulled our youngest son from PS in February. He is 8 and in 3rd grade and we bought level 3 Math from The Good and the Beautiful. In school, he did not like math. Now, he says math is his favorite subject! I definitely see us sticking with TGTB for Math for many years. I love how easy it is for me to teach. I also love how spiral it is. My son really needs that!

      Yay! I’m so glad it’s working for him! Homeschooling has really been life changing for our family. And I love how personalized each child’s education can be!

      Blessings to you and your family! You made the best decision for your family by taking your children out of public schools! I did the same thing!

    We have used this and Abeka this year...back and forth....we are back to this and I am coming to love it....and so is my daughter. We are going to stick with it for the year and probably continue with it.

    My student was a VERY hesitant math learner and we tried a combo of different curriculum and nothing stuck until TGTB! I did have to move him back a few grades he just turned 12 and were 1/4 of the way through the 4th grade book. But he's year round schooler so he'll catch up by 9th grade. We love Quashay the video teacher. And the quality of the videos are outstanding!

      I used the old level 2 with my boys. We liked it… but it took us forever to complete a lesson even with skipping things. We actually ended up only doing about 3/4 of it because we moved on to Teaching Textbooks (less intensive for me). I’m glad they have simplified the math since then do that this can be an option for my daughter now.

      @@CalmintheChaosHomeschool I completely agree! I used level 1 for my son last year and I was actually looking into switching to another curriculum company (bc it was taking too long to complete lessons) but they came out with their new math and thought I would give it a try! And so far so good!

    We think the teacher is fun!!! My kids love how she teaches!!! We use the answer key!!! We do hands on multiplication!!! When I downloaded the math levels the answer keys came with it!!!

  • @SevenInAll
    @SevenInAll 2 роки тому +2

    Yeah, 4th grade is usually the level at which we want to start using the answer keys just to save time from doing all that mental math. lol! I also did not love flashcards as a kid but I've found "cards" in general to be a really useful resource as a homeschool parent. We put almost everything we're learning on a card, nowadays, I feel like. haha! I like that mental math notebook a lot.

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool

      It’s true. Using cards is a really good strategy. I’ll need to figure out how to not let my own preconceived ideas get in the way! 😁

    We have used Masterbooks for 5 years and this year I am half crying when I open level 4. Ugh my hubby has been having to teach him because I don't understand it haha we just watched your review and are ordering it! Thank you! Would you say it's spiral or mastery?

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Рік тому

      It’s definitely a spiral math program. The topics sort of cycle through and there is always a review section. Each lesson can take some time, so we adjust what we do every day (like we do 4 lessons (minus the review) a week and do 1 day of 1/2 of the review sections (I cut out the questions I don’t think she needs). But she’s still enjoying math as much as she can 😆 I like the variety of questions and the videos are so well done.

    Hello :) We have tried Singapore Dimensions Math and my son cries through it as he says it is too challenging with not enough review. We tried MasterBooks math for grade 3 and he finished a full year course in under 5 months... I"ve printed off the Level 3 Math book- do you thing TGTB would be a good "in the middle" math curriculum .

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Рік тому +1

      Between those 2, yes. That being said, each day can have too many questions, so if he’s taking too long, definitely split it up. TGATB is good for kids who like color and want more creative questions and more real life applications. If he is learning well, I would go ahead and cut out some of the questions that are redundant. My daughter struggles and needs to do every question possible, so we just go slow (like 3 lessons a week). But I’m super happy with her progress.

      @@CalmintheChaosHomeschool Awesome! Thanks for that ! Glad it is working out for your daughter as well :) As a new homeschooler I have finally gotten more comfortable with dropping a curriculum if it wasn't working rather than dredging through it because i had bought it. My son is definitely a practical kid that learns better if he knows "how is this going to help me in the real world" ? We did our first lesson today and he loved it sweet! hope it continues . In his words: "It's nice and colorful like Masterbooks but a bit harder. But not too hard that I'm crying" :P

      @@CalmintheChaosHomeschool I was curious thought- what math is meant to be used after Gr. 6 as their levels ends at that point ?

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Рік тому +1

      @@ewalanger5415 they will be adding math 7 in the spring of 2024 I think… and then the math 8 will be coming after that. Don’t quote me in this, but I do feel like this math is a it advanced compared to their grade. I personally will either be moving my child from math 6 into a pre algebra (based on my experience with this, that should be a fine transition), or I will continue through math 8 and I’ve heard that that will cover algebra 1 material… then switch to finish geometry and algebra 2 somewhere else (if we go that far).

    Hello! Not sure if you are going to see this comment, but I am contemplating switching my son over to this curriculum. I was looking through their sample pages and noticed that they really seemed to review and drill basic multiplication facts. However, I didn't see anything similar for basic division facts. Can you tell me if you think there is enough practice in the course to learn them, or might it be a good idea to supplement with a pack of basic division cards or something? Thank you so much!

    • @CalmintheChaosHomeschool
      @CalmintheChaosHomeschool  Рік тому

      I think that if you think your child needs help worth governing to the division facts, it could be a good idea to provide child that up. The child I used this with is older, it wasn’t as necessary, but I agree it’s a bit lacking there.
