As your kids get older, look into Shormann Math. Dr. Shormann is the one behind the DIVE DVDs, but then he made his own program. It starts at Pre-algebra. My older kids have used it from Algebra 1 through Pre-calculus. (Pre-Algebra wasn't out yet when they started). They've both done very well with it and have needed very little help from me. It's prepared them well for the Pre-calculus CLEP exam for college credit. One of my older ones used My Math Assistant with Saxon in 6th and 7th grades. The online grading was a game-changer for our homeschool!! Back then, My Math Assistant was the only grading option and didn't have videos yet, and Nicole the Math Lady was only videos and didn't have online grading yet. So things have changed in the last few years, which is why I'm looking into which option to choose for my 6th grader next year. It will be his first year in Saxon Math.
The nice part about Shormann Math is that you do get a discount if you have another student using in the future as long as you have purchased Shormann Math for your 1st student. The sibling cost is $39
We use Dive with 5/4 and 6/7. My kids want to get the job done and go do what they want lol. I purchased the streaming option, but I downloaded all the videos onto a thumb drive, and then I was able to copy the dive folder to the kids laptops. My son got the 6/7 folder, and my daughter got the 5/4 folder. So, yes when you purchase Dive's streaming option, you can download the files and save them to your computer, thumb drive, or burn the files to a disc if that's what someone wants :)
We used Nicole the Math Lady and Shormann's DIVE Math. I agree with you and think Nicole is best for the younger grades by keeping it fun and having a real teacher on screen. We liked Nicole and the Corny Brain Breaks up until about Algebra I and then my son switched to DIVE and finished Algebra I and he gained more knowledge and comprehensive understanding of Math and how it connects to the real world. Nicole teaches how to compute and calculate the problems and she is great but Shormann goes deeper into understanding math and its applicable connections to our world. We think he's better for higher level math and college preparation as my son plans to take his first CLEP this year in Algebra II. Shormann offers free 3-6 week courses at the conclusion of certain classes to prepare for CLEP exams in Math and Science and has a high rate of success.
My son started with Saxon 5/4 in 3rd and is doing algebra 1/2 this year. It is our first year with a Dive dvd. Two lessons in and I'm on the fence. My son is finding them a little dry and long. It's early so hopefully it gets easier because I was hoping he would be more independent with math this year. I thought about Nicole the Math Lady and I might have to go that route
I am just now looking into Saxon and this video is very helpful! With Nicole the Math Lady, is there fact review? I did like that about My Math Assistant. My oldest is currently doing BJU Math 6 with videos but the videos are long, there is a lot of "busy" work and the way the teachers explain things is kind of hard to understand. So that is why I am looking into Saxon.
We tried Shormann's Algebra 1 course and were very disappointed. The lectures were very long, unengaging, and were inadequate for the problem set that followed. They also have an "absolutely no refunds" policy. We went back to Saxon with Nicole the Math Lady
@@TiffanyThompson-u6r Yes I do and it is excellent. My son appreciates the immediate feedback of knowing whether an answer is right or wrong. Many other programs have you complete the entire lesson before the student gets any feedback.
We use Logic of English online. It’s REALLY great! I’m hoping to do Excellence in Writing online classes next year. Logic of English is geared towards lower elementary and doesn’t do a lot in terms of composition instruction- but it’s wonderful for spelling and phonics.

Great to know! We're going to use Dive starting in 6/7.
THANK YOU for clarifying that you can download and keep the videos, I almost felt like it was too good to be true :)
I actually haven’t downloaded the video lessons but I have used this program year to year with different children and yes you can use them forever😊

This was amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing your research 🤩
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!! If I could like it more the once I would! This saved us.!
You are very welcome!
Thank you so much for sharing! I’m actually looking to switch from TT.
Did you switch from Teaching Textbooks? We are looking right now to switch as well.

Keep me updated - I'm so curious about DIVE for the later years!

There isn’t fact practice on her platform - but there are fact sheets my son does before starting the videos!
Thank you for sharing this comparison.😀
My 3rd grade daughter has loved Nicole the Math Lady so far. Going well for us!
We love the dive videos so much! Very thorough and to the point and it will streamline right into all online for the high school programs

We have been enjoying Nicole the Math Lady, too! My daughter loves the corny brain breaks😊
Hey there ~ do you use the online grading program through Nicole the Math Lady? If so, how do you like it?
@user-om9qv5ec5v We haven't used it yet, but I'm considering it for next year.
Great video and the comments are very useful too!
Thanks for this video. This is very helpful.
Saxon lesson discs show problems from books not DIVE.
Hello ~ do you use the online grading program with Nicole the Math Lady? If so, how do you like it?
I started with the grading but stopped using bc it made my daughter upset and my son would just guess because he knew he had 6 tries!
@@sciencemama That’s really helpful to know! Thanks for the reply. 🙂
Thank you!
I will note that Dive is the only one that has lessons that go along with the older second editions of Saxon which is what I own. Great review!
Option to do the second edition books i should have said.
Oh, that is good to know ... thanks for sharing!
Are you talking only about non high school maths?
Yeah, I really don't know about the high school math!
Do you know of an English on line class like these math classes?
Not really, I know Logic of English has an online class as well as Abeka and BJU press ... but I haven't used any of them!
There’s one through Hillsdale College also

IEW has a streaming option and we love it!
@@bethanyhandel Where do you find the streaming option?
