" I have something for you...you're not going to believe who I ran into outside!" :) Hello again from across the pond and stay healthy!- Brent
I first picked up a bass back in 2003 when I was about to turn 13. I didn't know any bassists at the time so I picked up guitar a few years later. I've always had a bass and played it from time to time. Rex and Pantera were huge influences then and still are. I'm 32 and about to try out for my first band. Walk and I'm broken are what I picked to to learn from start to finish. Thank you Rex and all my other influences for making amazing art. Getcha pull!
Thank you for this !!! Rex is a really ok guy and Pantera has changed not only heavy metal but music in general. I'm glad Rex is fine. I'm sorry we'll never see Cliff but as long as we remember him he's with us ... Keep working !!!
Rex's tone is that understated yet well balanced crushing thunderous rumble that did so much in Pantera's sound, and the more you listen to them the more you realise that. He's not usually the first name that people mention when they talk about influental bass players, but he's very near the top of my list.
Grew up seeing Pantera in the local clubs. Rascals, tombstone and of course Joe's garage and The basement. Even before Phil you knew they were going to make it.
I think old Rex just felt like having a good talk. I use to have the Spector Rex Brown holoflash bass which was an awesome looking bass but I couldn't get the right sound out of it and sold it. I probably should have kept it in my collection. I've always really liked Rex and his bass playing. He's a really down to earth guy. And a really great bass player. \m/🙂
Rex was a sweetheart, I was so honored to chat with him. I'm glad you enjoyed it Jeremy. I'd love to chat with Timmy C. Apparently he's a lurker on TalkBass ... So you never know!
One of the best bass players out there, & was part of one of the biggest metal acts of our time…& he can sing! Just started listening to his 2017 endeavor. 🤘🏻
Awesome!!!! I am from the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas, and Pantera is important to those of us who love rock and roll, and metal in Texas. DfW has one of the best fan bases for rock music and music of all genres. I remember seeing them play with White Zombie at Texas Stadium when I was a young teenager. Damn what a show.
I'm so glad for you that you accomplished this, it was clear judging by your face you were so excited to talk with Rex. I just wish these things happened more often, something so simple such as the Internet used to get in contact with - why not - your favourite artists. Hopefully this nice habit won't be forgotten when the pandemic is done.
Thanks Todes, I was buzzing dude. It came together so quickly. I'm going to approach a few more artists - considering they can't tour at the moment hopefully they will take up the offer!
I'm suscribed now! I just love this. I've always thought that Rex deserves more recognition. He is the best bass player I've ever heard in metal. Pantera was an unique band with all these awesome mind blowing musicians. Thank you for this!
Rex is just a cool ol country boy, I'm 48 now and back in the day everyone partied and played music. My friend's mom had a house that she use to let us use to play music and party in because she didnt want us driving. everyone was cool and everyone partied, it was just what you did. music was everything. sadly a lot has changed and people are married or in the ground. a few of us still play the cornbread run. my basement looks like a guitar and bass graveyard, amp heads, pieces of drum sets, old mic stands. 34 years worth of junk, but each piece has a story. I would like to sit down with Rex and talk old gear.
Rex, love that solid groove through the years!! Can't wait to hear more of your work. Who forget that 6 circle mosh on a hill at Oz Fest 2000 at Alpine Valley in East Troy Wisconsin. Too cool that you guys were able to contact each other! :) He seems like such a nice fellow. I met Vinnie Paul after a Pantera concert ages ago. He was unbelievably nice and humble as well. I asked him if he would sign my ticket for my drummer who was still in the front row waiting for the next act ! I'll never forget his face when I said. " I have something for you...you're not going to believe who I ran into outside!" :) Hello again from across the pond and stay healthy!- Brent
Great story Brent, nice one looking after your boy! You be safe out there dude thanks for watching.
Pantera are excellent musicians to get inspiration from 🤘
Congrats on this awesome video. So glad you got to speak with Rex. Dude is a legend.
Thanks Matt! I didn't see this coming at all, extremely happy with how it all turned out.
100% agree, good call.
This is awesome, really says something about Rex that he was kind enough to give you(and us) all this extra info and entertainment.
Absolutely, a pleasure to talk to and glad to hear his side of things.
Grew up seeing Pantera in the local clubs. Rascals, tombstone and of course Joe's garage and The basement. Even before Phil you knew they were going to make it.
The LEGEND tells us the stories...sooooo privileged!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!
MUCH LOVE TO REX!!!!!!
LOVE TO DIME & VINNIE...NEVER FORGOTTEN!
Awesome, fantastic interview with the Rex Legend. thanx Alfie!
Dzienkie Pawel! Glad you enjoyed it.
Rex seems like such a cool dude! So awesome he was willing to chat with you! I wish Timmy C would hit you up and do this!
Rex was a sweetheart, I was so honored to chat with him. I'm glad you enjoyed it Jeremy. I'd love to chat with Timmy C. Apparently he's a lurker on TalkBass ... So you never know!
Rex was one of the reasons that I burchased my first Spector bass back in the day. I have a few now and are still my fave basses!
Good choice!
One of the best bass players out there, & was part of one of the biggest metal acts of our time…& he can sing! Just started listening to his 2017 endeavor. 🤘🏻
Wait till you hear his new stuff!
New stuff???? Awesome. Can’t wait
Thanks for the sub Sun! Glad to have you dude.
It's not every day legends like Rex talk about your video. Congrats bro!!!
Dude, I'm still pinching myself. Very lucky!
Oh look at you..im so happy for you Alf..youve come a long way..congratulations..👏
Hey Fender J! Thank you man, I really appreciate it. Good to see you back too!
Living the dream 🤟the hard work you’ve put into making your channel is paying off,an interview with the legend that is Rex Brown!
I'm trying man I'm trying! Thanks dude, glad I could share this with you.
Binging on Rex lately and wanting to purchase my first bass.
Love when interviews just turn into old stories or talking about gear.
Great interview!
Love these hangouts with Rex, Goldmine.🏆🏆🏆✨
Me too!
Dang! Congrats on getting Rex. What an awesome bassist.
Thanks Theo, glad I could share it with you!
Oh man! I'm for sure going to be trying to get the rex brown signature bass
Rex, love that solid groove through the years!! Can't wait to hear more of your work. Who forget that 6 circle mosh on a hill at Oz Fest 2000 at Alpine Valley in East Troy Wisconsin. Lol
Glad I was caught in the pit for the Reinventing the Steel Tour in Madison, Wisconsin. Pleasure to see you later on at a venue with a meet and greet signing in Janesville, Wisconsin.. Always told folks there was no soul and groove in metal like a Rex lick.. Props man!!!
Alfie, this time you exceded every our possible expectation and desire! Well done!!!
Thank you Vanni that's real kind of you to say. I appreciate that. I hope the interview was everything you wanted!
You are both amazing. Excellent interview. Tks for all!

What a legend :) this is awesome. I'm so glad he saw your video about him and his career and responded, that's so cool! Congratulations Alf, you're 1 lucky guy. Rex is a wizard on the bass and a wonderful man. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Dame I really appreciate that! Super lucky how it all came about I had a great time. I'm glad you did too!
@@WhichBass you're very welcome and thank you. I really enjoy your channel.
Wow, that's awesome if the man himself reacts to your video and gets in touch with you. Very happy for you that your excellent videos made this interview possible for you!
Man you got me sold on that Gibson. Hope it sounds as good as you say
If I have any news I'll be posting as soon as I can!
Rex looks and sounds healthy and happy. Great! Very good interview.
I don't think rex gets enough credit for how great of a bassist he is has a really tight groove that went so well with dimes guitar playing
Couldn't agree more.
@@WhichBass like if you listen to the isolated bass tracks on mouth for war and suicide note part 2 you think this was done before pro tools existed so you either had to be good or go home no fixes so he had to get it right
This is awsome. So glad Rex reached out. Very cool of him yo do that. Great job !!!
Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it.
I'm really excited to see that non reverse Thunderbird. Great interview
As soon as I hear any news I'll let you know DaviJay. I'm excited too. Thanks for watching!
Well I’m late to the Game as i just discovered your videos... great work and excellent research on all the great bass players, keep em’ coming I’ll be looking forward to them.. Rex is cool as hell all are awesome bass players in their own unique styles.
Thanks Red, glad you're making up for lost time! Glad you enjoyed the videos.
Great interview, lad! Love hearing from the man himself, from what I heard from people that hung out with them, I’ve always thought the pantera guys were super humble and really cool to hang out with. Glad to know that’s true. Can’t wait to see more interviews and more things from your channel, Alfie! Cheers!
Thanks Warren! Glad you enjoyed it. Rex is as humble as they come man. Here's hoping for another special guest!
Awesome interview! Rex is a solid dude. Met him when he was with Down. Texas born and bread all the way!
Texas toast
So cool congratulations on the interview. Rex is the man.
Great bassist!! Thanks for the interview
Thanks for listening David, glad you enjoyed it.
Glad to see Rex doing well and living life
Great interview brother
Thanks Dan, good to see you dude.
@@WhichBass Good to see you too brother
I don’t think people realize Rex played a lot of the licks Dime did which is super hard to do if not impossible on bass. I play guitar but sometimes fake bass haha, awesome interview man 🤙
That's right! Rex done quite a lot of guitar parts for Pantera. I don't think many know that. Glad you enjoyed the video Andre, thanks!
What a cool dude. Love rex. He's humble and onr solid ass player
I'm really happy for you! This was really great!
Glad you enjoyed it dude it was a blast!
Awesome man, thanks for sharing 🤟🏻
Thanks for watching Fabian, glad you enjoyed it.
THAT is extremely awesome. Wow. Great interview and getting Rex's attention.
Thanks Snibbor, glad you enjoyed it dude.
I’ve been successful on using a boss bass chorus and boss bb1x + Ernie ball strings on a Yamaha BB714 to emulate mor or less the Rex tone. Made a cover of By Demons Be Driven. Honestly, I got a killer tone squeezing the knobs of my pedals and amplifier.
