I recently learned that the white kits in the upstairs of my favorite music store. I knew they'd been with ESP since the 70s or 80s but it still blew my mind
When I first heard One, I wanted to play the drums. I didn't know you could make drums do that, and I really wanted to be able to play in that way. I've learned a lot from Lars' drumming.
So, you've gotten worse since you started? 😅 Just kidding. I'm just hackin' on Lars and his laziness when it comes to getting better as a player over the years. With all the experience he has, you'd think he d be up there with the rest of the best.

For me it's the silver 90's/early 00s one; my.. 'check this band out' friend had more bootlegs with concerts from the era than any other period. I was hooked! Sleek 'Tallica!
For real. Black album drums just sound so amazing. People always talk about the snare, but man the TOMS sound absolutely enormous and warm and powerful. Such a killer sound.
Lars your an amazing drummer. I loved all your different drum kits and the colors. I absolutely love the 72 Seasons yellow and black set. Your my favorite metal drummer and I give you so much credit you are still playing and giving the energy in the live shows. I love Tama drums. Keep rocking Lars.

It wasn't until the Black album that I even realized you played TAMA drums. So I went back through videos and sure enough.... all the way back. I love the purple set. When I first saw you playing it, I was enthralled. Of course, since you are my all time favorite drummer, just watching you play any drum set is amazing. I hate his insignificant little drum kit from the pre-Load era to this day with different colors, that's not a Metallica drum kit. They all don't reach the legend status of his bigger is better drums.
Lars was my inspiration to start playing drums for my very first band and of course I didn’t have TAMA. I had a drum set and the company that made it was called. “crest” it was my dad’s and it was 25 years old and he played jazz on it and I was playing heavy metal and the set was so old that it actually had real skins on it . we quickly figured out that this old set was not made for heavy metal and the lead singer of the band who was about seven years older than the rest of us. He actually bought a TAMA set for me to use . He knew I wanted TAMA. That was the only drum set I ever looked at, and it was because of Lars.
Lars’ unwavering loyalty to TAMA for all those years speaks to how that company values the relationships they have with their artists. TAMA must be a damn good company to keep Lars onboard for 40 years
Lars is the biggest fan of heavy metal music and just wanted to be a part of it... he loved it so much he became the undeniable leader of the heavy metal movement in N America... dude is beyond legendary

That was the coolest drum video from one of my drum heros! My other hero is Neil Peart and I am humbled by the connection Lars had with Neil and not surprised at all how Neil helped a brother out! So cool, this is an incredible walkthrough of his kits over the years. Loved to see how Lars choices have changed over the years, in terms of toms, two hi hats etc. To hear about the first Camco, and speaking to Neil Peart and connecting with Tama, and 40 years later here we are. Thank you Lars and Tama, loved every second of this.
From 89-93 he would drum almost to death, I’m surprised A. he never passed out on the kit, *as far as I’ve seen* B. the drums never got holes in them “again” *as far as I know currently*
It must be crazy to be able to look back on your career and all of your creative decisions in such a literal way. What a unique life and what a unique experience to recap a large portion of it.

Incredibly smart and business savvy dude. So so so much of Metallica's success lays on his shoulders. People can complain about his style and their rockstar era and whatever all they want but it's true.

I was lucky enough to have the Tama rep let me play the Orange kit at a big gear show in my hometown when nonody was in the tent. It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life as he has been one of the biggest influences in my drumming! It also made me realize just how short Lars is...
I met him for the 2nd time in my life at an event in Copenhagen where he was being interviewed or having a talk with a journalist last week. I am a short dude myself. First time I met him was Iceland 2004, I was 17 and he was like almost half a head taller than me. Last week I was probably 2 inches taller🥳 he is 168 or 170 cm tall. Between there. 5’6 - 5’7. You also shrink a bit when you age. But I don’t see him as short, maybe because I am too😂 But he stood among tall fans taking pic. You don’t think wow he is short. Because it’s not that short again.
I like how Lars kept all his previous drum kits, that really says something about his passion for the drums and what each of those kits meant to him in his journey with the instrument.
Yes I'll admit that I'm one of those guys that would say something about his playing. I just want to be honest and not be a hypocrite. I must ask though... why is it that the older these guys get, the more I love them. I was there from the beginning. Listening to something like Ride The Lightning was "of the devil" to me. I absolutely love listening to Lars talk. I'm actually very proud of them.

Been playing drums since the mid 60s. First noticed TAMA when they introduced their premier hardware. Up to that point, most drum manufacturers hardware was crap. Then TAMA arrived. Love the video. Love Lars. Stay safe.
1986 Metallica opening for Ozzy at Nassau Coliseum. First time I ever saw them live! Got to see Cliff that night with Metallica, and Jake with Ozzy. Those shiny silver drums looked AWESOME! I will never forget that show as long as I live.
I was at that concert too Wichita, Kansas never forget it. There were church people out front trying to shut the concert down. Didn’t work. One of my favorite concerts back then Way to go Lars and TAMA!

Gazing at my two custom Tama kits proudly taking up the entire living room thanks to the inspiration of Lars in the 90’s and 00’s to form bands and play live and learn many tracks by rewatching Lars in music videos. Forever Tama, Forever Metallica 🤘
Definitely cool seeing this, Lars always had such cool kits but his Justice/Black Album kits will always be iconic but I've always loved all of his drum sets and I'm still super stoked to see him and Metallica live in Toronto next year
Not really a metallica follower but their music and performances are unique and great to watch and listen to. Amazing guy, he doesn't have to do anything due to his wealth, but he carries on for the band, for fans and music in general. Many have come and gone but he is still going. Very intelligent and interesting guy, one of only a few authentic rock stars worth their credit. Nice one Lars.
[ I don't know why Lars gets so much hate. ] It's because in the early 2000s he was very outspoken against music piracy. The optics of a multi millionaire crying about illegal downloads did not sit well with the fans. That was back then. We now know Lars is a very down to earth person.

What's he messed up? Name it. He's played the wrong tempo, he's missed notes, he's played notes where there shouldn't be notes. Hell Lars has admitted making mistakes live and on the studio versions which makes you, pretty damn stupid.

Except the Black album was recorded with a Gretsch kit (from the Doctors Doctors rental company)with a Tama bell brass snare.
Tama is high quality. There’s no real reason to change brands unless you want something different

Gazing at my two custom Tama kits proudly taking up the entire living room thanks to the inspiration of Lars in the 90’s and 00’s to form bands and play live and learn many tracks by rewatching Lars in music videos. Forever Tama, Forever Metallica 🤘

40 years of Tama has given us immense joy and satisfaction out of sral's Drumming.
Definitely cool seeing this, Lars always had such cool kits but his Justice/Black Album kits will always be iconic but I've always loved all of his drum sets and I'm still super stoked to see him and Metallica live in Toronto next year

Not really a metallica follower but their music and performances are unique and great to watch and listen to. Amazing guy, he doesn't have to do anything due to his wealth, but he carries on for the band, for fans and music in general. Many have come and gone but he is still going. Very intelligent and interesting guy, one of only a few authentic rock stars worth their credit. Nice one Lars.
Lars doesn't get the credit he deserves! There would literally be no Metallica without him! Hope he gets to be a metal wizard like his dad one day 🤘

Lars was one of the drummers I looked too in the 80's. He had great kits and play amazing.

It's because in the early 2000s he was very outspoken against music piracy. The optics of a multi millionaire crying about illegal downloads did not sit well with the fans.
That was back then. We now know Lars is a very down to earth person.
His drumming does. He's mildly annoying but an OK dude.

@@redrick8900 Congrats on telling everyone here YOU don't know anything about drumming. Like it or not they're telling the truth. Lars can drum but he fucks up more then most beginners. What's he messed up? Name it. He's played the wrong tempo, he's missed notes, he's played notes where there shouldn't be notes. Hell Lars has admitted making mistakes live and on the studio versions which makes you, pretty damn stupid.
