*1. Please ask Rex about performing on unreleased Damageplan songs as Rita Haney has publicly mentioned a desire for both PHILIP & REX to perform on those tracks.*
2. Home video #4 status update
3. Pantera has NO LIVE concert DVD. Will they ever release a full length headlining concert DVD?
4. NO ONE ever asks Rex about REBEL MEETS REBEL.
5. Would Rex ever want to work with DOWN again someday? Even if its just for one song or two when he has free time away from his solo band.
6. When is the 2nd solo album coming & will he tour this time
Thank you. I look forward to your interview.
* * * Great Interview ! A good interviewer asks a question and allows the interviewee to answer, without interruption. You nailed it. * * *
Why is a rock star bass player out in cold
Rex deserves a lot more credit. He came up with a lot of Pantera riffs and layed solos under dimes solos and all sorts of crazy shit. You've heard it. Dudes a beast.
OzzFest 2000 Live When the show starts Yesterday dont mean shit Rex,s bass sounds fcking amazing!! and totaly insink with Dime 🤘Fck yeh!!
He was just a low key dude compared to the other three maniacs in the band..
@@waylonbeasley2838 That he was!😊 He Didn't give fck all away to press magazine's etc (RESPECT Rex)👌 Kept everything to himself The first glimpse of anything!! that went on in the Pantera camp His view was in his book And before the book you got a very small!! glimpse in what was going on in that documentary About Pantera🤘
His licks are classic...I used to teach the bass lines in the solo's for "Floods" and "Throes of Rejection" to show the importance of being able to play any style. I could talk for hours about his playing, the man is a legend in my book.
lim jahey - Yea, just the other day I was listening to 5 Minutes Alone, and I kept rewinding the guitar solo to listen to Rex's awesome bass line behind the solo.
Undisputed kings of metal. Untouchable.
DAMN STRAIGHT
ABSOLUTELY
Legends
No question about it . Goddamm electric
No joke man. They kicked it straight in the teeth years over.
The break in the song , "I'll cast a shadow" is fucking phenomenal!!!!!
Rex was so good they never needed a rhythm guitarist. I remember an interview when someone asked Dime about having a rhythm guitarist in the band. He said….nah I leave that to Rex.
And honestly the solos are so much better without a rhythm guitar, and your hear only the bass and drums grooving. Heavy as fuck.
Dime was being modest. Dime essentially functioned as a rhythm and lead guitarist. There are lots of examples of bands with one guitarist. Cream, Janes Addiction, Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chili Peppers…
Rex is and always has been: No fillter and No bullshit! These guys always knew how good they were. If they sold 10 copies of a record, they could sell out any arena in the world. Long live Pantera!!!!!!
I saw them in Maryland on the ritstour and they were hard as hell and unfortunate it was the last time I saw pantera
@noisy parrot have to check that out
@noisy parrot where can you download it at? I heard he was talking shit about Vinnie and some about Dime.
@noisy parrot will do thanks 👍
@noisy parrot k thank you really I didn't know she did to.
THERE IS THE BIG 4 AND THEN THERE IS PANTERA IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
thats what I always thought as well
Yep and to be honest as much as I Fucking Love Thrash and the big 4...Pantera is just on another fucking level
#facts
Indeed, if the big 4 are in the first league, PANTERA are definitively in the Champions League, without any doubt
An island unto themselves, no one can touch them! They took the torch after Metallica decided to take themselves out of doing visceral metal and started doing more easy going hard rock based stuff in the 90's. Everything from Cowboys onwards are classics but they're super crazy in a league of their own, visceral take no prisoners groove metal from Vulgar Display right up to Reinventing The Steel is unprecedented. That's an unbelievable body of work for any band regardless of genre, album to album. I feel they transcended the genre; it doesn't matter what they play it's all extraordinary. Only Sepultura comes close-ish with some of there albums making that sort of earth shattering yet compelling noise.
I dont know why but I love that Rex is a fan of Deftones
Rex is responsible for Panteras groove. Incredible musician.
Vinny possibly had something to do with it as well.
All 3 Rex Vinny And Dime had something to do with the groove
Rightttttttttt. He played exactly what Darrell played 98% of the time so I’d say Darrell and Vinnie were.
careful now.... they were all pretty groovy dude
Yeah, I wouldn't say he was " responsible " for anything. He contributed to it.
Terry Date is the fifth member of Pantera,.. to have him put his mix on this album was a f#$ken awesome decision.
I love the orignal mix but dude.....dates mix is insane
@@mattdunlap3485 insanely bad. he took out all the low end. all the thunder is gone. it's super gainy and added a bunch of shit that just sounds off. weird endings to songs, guitar bombs that sound out of key, etc. no thanks. sterlings mix is superior.
@@jeffXedge okay bud if you say so lol

@@noahalcoser1977 I’m still scratching my head thinking how the fuck that happened I’ve seen pantera in 92-93. 01ish still have Dimes picks from the 1st two gigs .
All our bands are getting old and dying it’s life and all them new bands that came out in the 00’s had no staying power that’s my opinion but to me they hadn’t an honest bone in there body about playing no danger in them either .

Met this lad at the CD release party in Dallas. Still have the signed copy by all four of the guys. Incredible memory.
I love how Rex has matured in his personality. This guy is incredible
here in Ky we call that burnt out ! Ill smoke to that ! lol
I'll never forget being in Chicago for the reinventing the steel tour. Slayer and Pantera both destroyed. We had balcony seats but as soon as Pantera hit, we jumped down into the pit \m/ \m/
Ha, I bet we were at the same show. Security didn't stand a chance!
That was the one where Static X got booed off stage?
@@mr.mojorisin6402 No, I don't believe this was the same one. At least I didn't remember that. I did remember when Limp Bizkit got booed off stage when they toured with Metallica at Hawthorn race track haha You know those little lemons they handed out in the waters? Yeah, those lemon were LAUNCHED at Limp Bizkit as soon as they said Mancow sucks HAHAHA
@@ddpyogavsrob4700 - ok, yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw them twice on that tour, though it's foggy now. Both times were w Slayer & Morbid Angel.... one show had Static X and the other it was Soulfly. People just kept chanting "Slayer" during Static X... the dude got pissed and walked off...haha, that's hilarious about Limp Bizket
Fantastic interview! It's great when he says "listen to the whole record, not just 2/3 songs on Spotify". I love Rex!
Good non-in person interview
Rexxx! Seen ya 2 times with Pantera, 2 times with Down. Love ya brother!!!
Went to the Limelight after the New York shows for Vulgar at Roseland , Rex and I were in the VIP bar upstairs , head to the pisser and theres a kid with a Pantera shirt on , Rex tells him ,, nice shirt as we walk past ,, the kids mouth dropped open like he saw God. Great fkn night.

Rex is one of THE best interviews in music I've seen. Gracious, accommodating, insightful, honest, just plain good to the interviewer. Super proud to be a longtime fan of such a cool dude. I lived in Taos NM for a couple years, he definitely picked an underrated jewel of a place to get away.
Damn, I still remember buying this when it was the "new" album, can't believe it was 20 years ago 🙄

Chris great interview! 20 years unbelievable! Time flies by so fast! Rex good to see you again man! Seen you from the beginning days and still headbang daily to Pantera! Thanks for sharing everything! Agree with Chris like the original tracks on vinyl this is the music I dug daily! These music executives adding technology I get it, man! I still have my first vinyl albums bought then of Pantera! As well seen Pantera in concert so many times in USA! Met you a couple times you`re a cool dude! Waving a hand hello from Missouri, USA! RIP DB- VP! Take care!
I miss the days of Pantera. Such a phenomenal band
Some new band will pop they always do.
This is a great interview Rex is such a great guy and musician. You really appreciate how hard these guys worked when you think about how much touring they did for each album.
The bass part during the solo on Floods is one of my favourite of all time.
Awesome interview. Huge pantera fan here. Glad to see rex doing well
Nice and Wu tang lol
Rex is so humble... Talkin' about dreading going on after Slayer. I had the pleasure of seeing Pantera several times. I've seen them with everybody from White Zombie to Soulfly to Morbid Angel... and I can tell you CONCRETELY.... Pantera was the best heavy metal band OF ALL TIME... not only on the stage, but in the studio. The Sheer POWER and AGGRESSION of Pantera, was unlike anything else ever. Dime's guitars, The Thunder of Vinnies drums combined with Rex's bass, and undoubtedly the best heavy metal voice of all time being the cherry on top, not to mention the energy and vitality they brought to the stage is just unrivaled by any band that's ever lived or ever will. I just saw them again on the Legacy tour with Zakk and Charlie, and while it's not the same, it's STILL a very powerful experience. I hear a lot of the old school fans from back in the day bitching and complaining about "It's not Pantera" and this and that. FUCK that! This is the only Pantera these kids today are ever gonna get the chance to see.... And it's STILL better than most bands on the road. I'm always gonna have a DEEP love and respect in my heart for Pantera, they are now and forever my favorite heavy metal band of all time.
Rex is genuine and I'm a huge fan of all his work from Pantera, Down, his solo record and even his work with Crowbar, Jerry Cantrell and CC. Wish him all the best and hope to hear more Rex soon.
Listen to Arms of the Sun, Rex plays bass on it...if you like AIC you’ll probably like this
Rex was also in Kill Devil Hill. They put out 2 studio albums.
I'm in...still waiting for more home videos 🥳
Every time I hear any member of this band talk ... I love them more... man. Such real dudes thanks brotha.
''booze is a healer'', Phil confirmed the same thing, if I remember correctly, DIme said, ''c'mon man, just like in ol' country'n'western days''. Rex also mentions seeing parts of Homevideo 4 so that's great news. I just can't imagine how much material these guys have... Anyways, I'm off to go and roll a big ass joint and listen to this album again
@noisy parrot well, rex recommended it at the end of the video :D
@noisy parrot he said to smoke a joint, not to drink
@noisy parrot already did dude! 420 all the way
Can’t wait for another home video or Dime vision!! Bobby and Rita have sooo many hours of footage and as a true fan I’d love to see it all and hear some unreleased riff tracks
@@JunkyardHog me too man, can't wait. I mean, they have so much material, that they can make numerous home videos, it's up to them how are they doing to do it.
The thing is, when they released dimevision 2, there's so much footage in there, especially these short 1-2second clips that most of the people cannot catch if you watch the dimevision only once. You have to watch it a couple of times and pause the video every few seconds or rewind it, to catch all of it.
The thing is, Bobby and Rita recorded most of the stuff, or if they didn't, they were there, so they know whats going, they know the background story. Unfortunately, most of us don't, so sometimes we have a hardtime catching up what's really happening, if you know what I'm saying.
I think it would be a great idea to do all this editing with a good videographer, not only by themselves.
I bought this CD on the day it came out. I was waiting for it. Can’t believe it’s been 20 years. Very very special band.
20 years!!! 😲 omfg am I getting old! This was a long waited pantera album that came out when I was in high school! I loved it, many people didn't. It was a time when people thought they were gonna break up and this album was rush out for the record labels and them to go back doin there own
thing......... which... kind of was
I first heard Cowboys From Hell when I was about 12/13 years old, that was almost 30 years ago and have been a fan ever since and ALWAYS will be. I’m blessed to have seen them when they were not even playing arenas yet and also got to see them when they did. Amazing shows every time. Omg the memories! Had cassettes and VHSs lol and of course got the cds and dvds later. Seeing you all together is very missed but glad Rex and Phil are still out there making music. RIP Dime and Vinnie 💔
Ha! I'm the same....get half-way done mowing the backyard... stop and flip the tape!!
The new mix is off the charts. Love it
Pantera Video 4 Is gonna be the best and saddest thing ever. I can't wait to see it.
My First Love and the Greatest Band ever!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
That is So Amazing he mentioned Deftones, Chino is on Film saying that Pantera was their first inspiration when it came to choosing the producer!!!
What a fantastic interview. Loved hearing the way Rex spoke. Fantastic questions too by the interviewer.
I wanted to make a separate comment to thank Rex for taking the time to talk with all of us.
We all miss the Abbott brothers; you miss them more. We still miss them too, though.
Hello from Portland Oregon, I'd say come visit but they just shut the cannabis club down because things shut down now. You can still visit but now I got no place to hold a proper non-alcohol focused party. :-(
Glad you're still with us, I don't have many friends left either. A lot of people who made it this far are the same, so we know how you feel and you didn't need to talk about it. You didn't, but you did. So I wanted you to know at least one person out there really gets it. It's lonely when your friends leave to a place where you can't get them back from, literally. It's a little more...final.
Wolfgang VH said something that seemed to resonate and I can't get the phrasing properly but it was basically that it's never going to stop hurting eventually you just trust that you'll be in the same place again someday. Or something like that, but it make me feel better about my friends that are gone for a second.
Be well. Be safe. Be as happy as you can.
"Be as happy as you can".
I'm a big pantera fan then and still am! I finally got to see them in person on their great southern trend kill tour in springfield missouri since I live in branson mo. I found one of Rex's bass picks on the concert floor . I still have that pick. I'm even a fan of the 80s pantera as well 🤘 Rex aka T Rex

I had no idea it was the 20 year anniversary when I was listening to that CD this past weekend. Rex: What did you think of the new mixes?
Pit: ehh...I'm found of the old ones
Rex: So you have chosen death
Original is way better, no doubt about it
the original might be a bit muddy on the low end but overall it just sits way better than the new mix. The remix is just too "clean", and that kind of makes the guitar sound harsh at times. Also drums sound weaker, i suppose too much compression. The original just needed a bit better low end cleanup, thats all. It sounds punchy asf otherwise and i love it. Not so much the remix.
Original mix is garbage
