In no uncertain terms, Pantera will be forever regarded as one of metal’s most electrifying seminal forces, innovating and remapping the genre with an unrivaled blend of style, substance, sound, and power (that some may even describe as vulgar). Cowboys from Hell emblazoned the band onto the tapestry of pivotal metal moments, leading to a five-album run over the next decade that influenced countless artists and engineers. Recently, 2022 saw bassist Rex Brown and vocalist Philip Anselmo unite with close friends and longtime collaborators Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante to do right by the dearly missed Abbott brothers and bring Pantera’s unrelenting sonic forces to the masses to be enjoyed as all metal ought to be: live. Sweetwater’s metal maestro, Nick Bowcott, catches up with bass tech Bobby Landgraf and Pantera bassist, Rex Brown - the man the late, great Dimebag referred to as “the pit boss.” Nick and Rex talk all things tour rigs, Rex’s basses, the Abbott brothers, hocky tape, “Floods,” angels, timeless memories, and much, much more.

First thing I noticed when I saw pantera last summer was how massive Rex's bass tone was
I was fortunate enough to see Pantera live 5 times in the 90s. What a blast!
Criminally underrated or talked about Bassist!!! Saw Pantera in the early 90’s at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Best sounding, looking, delivered exactly what they should have concert, I’ve ever been to!
Another legend, another great interview from Nick! Thanks Sweetwater ✌🏼
Saw Pantera 15 times in the old days, most of those with my Dad (RIP) and once this year. Took my youngest Son who was 7 at the time. What a great time. Very classy. Made me feel like I was 16 again. My boy loved it. What a great night (Grand Rapids, MI.) Thank you, Rex!
'Far Beyond Driven' and 'Great Southern Trendkill' have the greatest metal bass tones ever. The perfect balance of weight, clarity and growl.
We Spector players are fundamentally dependent on people like Bobby. Without our Bobbies we wouldn't exist. Kind regards to Rex and you from sweetwater from the cold north of Germany.
Awesome!!!❤❤💯💯
Bobby’s always up 🤘💯
Awesome nugget about the floods outro. Now we know it was a Les Paul- what was the pedal ?
Loved the extended version he used to play back in the 80s
🔥
Yeah Rex! 😎🎸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Ayyye, you have an interview with Rex. Nice. Does that mean there's one with Phil?
LORD UNMATCHED. ☝🏼
❤👍
Don't worry, Rex, the original Charvel is in good hands ;)
🇨🇦👽🎸👍🏼
wasnt rex a spector player his whole panther career?
basically yes
@@vitekpribyla4179 There have already been a few gigs where he used material from other producers.
He got into Spector during the recording of FBD when he borrowed a bunch of Spector basses from Rachel Bolan of Skid Row.
He used Jackson early days
Should of jammed when the brothers were calling.
from Spector to Gibson for some reason...
Godzilla Motor Company.
Don't speak for Abbott brothers, they can't answer from the grave. Neither Dime, nor Vinnie, wanted to see and talk to Phil Anselmo ever again, least of all reunite with him for Pantera shows. Vinnie never wanted this reunion with Phil and he stated so a few times. If Vinnie wanted this, he'd do it while he was still alive, right? He didn't and that says everything. Most of all, Vinnie knew it wouldn't be same without Dime.
Let me add though....REX IS MY LORD AND SAVIOR😂😂
Spot on. I'm all for a Pantera TRIBUTE. But to try and rewrite history and truth and pretend the brothers would've wanted this is far beyond stupidity. I like how Death have a Death To All tribute and are in no way entertaining the idea of writing new music as Death. That's how it should be. But feel free to make a new band, same lineup, with a Pantera song or album name as the new band name. A cool spinoff that plays Pantera live and writes new songs that sound like Pantera. Just don't be deluded.
😘😘
Except dime wanted to get pantera back together before he died as he wasn't satisfied with damageplan , after the tragedy obviously vinnie never wanted it
You sound lil like the shooter.
Why not play something.
Because that's not what the video is about.
@@KULDSWET It's about a _bassist_ and his _rig,_ and his _band,_ done by a well know musical product distributor.....it's out of the realm of your imagination that he would actually play something? 🙄😒
My thing is, they're featuring Rex, but there's no hint of bass in the Pantera music snippets they're using 😂
Correct!! This was an *interview* not a lesson, but thank you for watching!!
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power because that was not what the video was about. Find a video where he plays something.
It’s bot outside the realm of imagination he stands on his head….thats not what the video is.
