- Recently my dad gave me his 1976 Les Paul Custom. I thought it would be cool to interview him about the story of his musical endeavors and what it was like to purchase a guitar in the 70's. He has been my biggest influence when it comes to music, and I hope he inspires you too!
I am the original owner of a 1976 Les Paul Standard (LPS) with many of the same components of your dad's Custom. It has the 3-piece maple neck, 5-piece headstock, T-Top pickups (I have verified this) and the pancake mahogany body. I love my LPS and it just sings. Heavy too, weighing in at 9 lbs., 7 ozs. Your article has got me thinking of who in my family I will give my LPS to when I am too old to play. I'm 68 years old and still playing in a band that features some my guitar work with the LPS. Thanks for sharing your story with us in UA-cam world. Stories like yours are such an encouragement that many can relate with.
Thanks for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
That's lovely! Great dad, great guitar
Man…I got a black 1976 Gibson Les Paul Custom too. Yeeeewwwww
Heartwarming. What a beast of a guitar!
My father passed down the Lemon Pledge as well to me.. I absolutely love this video and wish you and your father all the best. He's a great player.
That’s awesome. Thank you for watching!
Mrs. Miller Do You Wanna Rock was great! Wahi' Valleys
Beautiful story. Your dad is a pretty good guitar slinger. Take care if that axe.
Thank you very much!
You are the spitting image of your father big time! You are literally the younger Back To The Future version of your dad! 😂
Thanks for watching. Yeah, we get that a lot!
Came here after seeing your insta reel. What a lovely story. Your dad was awesome in his day! My dad was a rocker too and I discovered classic rock through him. Well done on this episode. Pls make more vids!
Thanks for watching! More videos to come. Subscribe for more! Cheers.
Enjoyed the interview. Every dad should get his interview.
Very cool!!! Love every aspect of this video!!
Thank you for the kind words!
My parents are from the South side, and my Dad talked just like him. We’re Irish Catholic, Mom was an orphan and they were both raised by Nuns. I grew up on the North side, Antioch, Ingleside, Fox Lake, Waukegan.
They were born in the 40s, Dad passed on. But this weekend all of the grandkids and of course me and my two brothers and sister are all doing a reunion in the Orlando St Cloud area for Mom’s 80th. I’m 52, based in the Tampa area. Worked construction my whole life, that’s a gift from Dad btw. I can see it in your Dad’s shoulders. You need a transmission dropped, a new set of head gaskets, rear main seal… he’s probably the guy to call. Unless you just want to buy new.
He jams. Lucky you. 🍀
[edit] I also love those Victoria amps, they’re a recordists dream come true. Must be nice to be local. Another really good sound tech company I adore is Cranesong, up in Wisconsin. I have some Dave Hill mic pre’s outboard that really do the magic. Keep em coming Vic. Make some noise for us.
Autocorrect did the name change. Sorry about that Vincent.
This is so incredibly awesome!
Dude!!! That guitar better be a family heirloom.
Oh yes! Thanks!
Wholesome video. Love your channel so I'm gonna subscribe 😊 please get me back though. Around 2000ish my father said he'd buy me my first electric guitar if I saved up for a practice amp, I did a few cruddy jobs and saved and got one quicker than he thought. I went to the guitar shop with him and he said "OK, pick a guitar out from this kinda price range", I instantly got drawn to a sunburst finish Epiphone Les Paul Standard, my dad's surprised, I had a go on it, felt nice. I was a big fan of Peter Green, Clapton, The Who at the time so it just spoke to me.
After I took it home he said he was so surprised because it was identical looking to the Les Paul he got in the early 70s. Which was really something.
I'm a composer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist based in England. I still play a lot, and since I've gotten a fair few more guitars, including a Les Paul studio and a Japanese Fender Performer, always about tone for me. I like to just have a reverb or delay pedal and a fuzz and let the amp do the rest. Often my soundtrack and foley work does relegate me to keys and synth from time to time but I play guitar as often as possible even if my work doesn't call for it.
No idea how you ended up on my suggestions but glad to find you. Always interesting to meet down to earth folk who are so open and passionate 😊
Look forward to seeing more of your stuff
Hey there! Beautiful story. Thanks for the sub! I love me a sunburst. Have a great day and keep in touch! 😃
Awesome video. Very cool
loved the video, keep those storys coming! hope i'll keep my guitars long enough to give them to my children someday
Great Interview !! ✅🙏🏼🎸
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great interview!
Thank you!
I’ve got a 1984 Les Paul studio it’s a white color with chrome and black trim I bought it in 1993 and it has turned a light yellow color it was like that when I bought it in 1993 I’ve still got it 30 years later I enjoy playing it a lot
Hey Vincent, great video. I’m 66 years old & a frustrated guitarist who only wished he could play like you & your Dad. Received a Strat when I graduated high school in 1974. Still have it. Would really love to know what guitarists your Dad admired back in the day & now as well. Good idea for the next video ! Be well guys !
Thanks for watching!
That was great! Really glad your channel found me!
I’m glad too!
Proper cool guitar, your fathers equally as cool. Stick us a cassette in the post, I'm good for the money! Would love to see some jam sessions in the room.
Coming soon!
Cool video man.... Subscribed....
Thanks dude! More videos coming soon.
Nice Vid
Take could care of it, don't ever sell it. That's a family heirloom
Love this..
I had a 20th anniversary black beauty for many years, I bought it NOS technically from a guy who bought it new but never played it. Still had the hang tags and original strings when I got it for $500 in around 1985. Kept of for many years but like a dummy traded it for an EVH Wolfgang special and Peavy amp which I don't have anymore either. The guitar was great but super heavy, I put cream pick pick guard and pickup rings etc to make it pop. I don't care for the all black look personally.
Are the pickups original or did you guys throw on some pickup covers ? The pictures you shared of your pops, they were not covered, is why I ask. Great video btw!
Hi Issac, He took off the covers way back in the day. I decided to put on new ones to keep the guitar original. I also changed out the pickups for a pair of Tyson tones. Thank for watching!
Nice house
I seen your reel on instagram
I follow you there and now I’m a subscriber here to !!
If you still live south of Chicago…….. I live down here in Springfield
like twins lol
We get that a lot... haha
Lemon Pledge! That’s awesome. I think that’s what I used on my guitar when I was a kid. Your dad is great! Just curious if in 76 they did away with the fretless wonders? I have a 73 and the frets are loooowwww.
The frets are low on this one too. But it’s never been regretted so I’m not sure! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing this! Apart from it being a special guitar that used to belong to your father, what do you think of it playing wise? :)
It plays like butter!
@@Vincentcam I can imagine. 👌
I’ve never seen an LP with that amount of wear on the back of the neck holy mother of god 😂😂
I have just bought the same. What is the Serial Number of yours mine is 00127410, I will never be able to play as well as you or your Dad. Great video! (Mine cost £6K)
What did you pay in 1976?
He paid 620.00
@@Vincentcam To the cent what I paid for my 79 LP customer in 79. I somehow wound up with a 65 strat also... too weird. Loved the video!
Thanks for watching! 65 strats are where it’s at! 🎸
@@Vincentcam Wow, that’s 3.5k I’m todays money in UK pounds.
I just paid 6K for mine and it's worth every penny! Blown away.
