    • @dereklong801
      @dereklong801 3 роки тому +6

      @LLOYDJARED BACANI Les Paul experimented with solid body designs before 1950, but it was not the "Les Paul." Fender released the Esquire and Broadcaster in 1950. Gibson responded by bringing in Les Paul as a consultant and released the Gibson Les Paul in 1951 and 1952. So yes, Fender was first.

    • @seashorerumble1380
      @seashorerumble1380 3 роки тому +2

      @LLOYDJARED BACANI it is common knowledge that lots of people were experimenting with solid bodies, Leo Fender WAS however the first who got it right and made it commercially viable. In the same way he acquired the projects of an electric bass prototype that dated the 1920's (circa) , only he was able to perfect them and make the precision bass, which is for this reason considered the first electric bass

    "If you don't know what you're doing, you can buy a 1969 Les Paul, and think you bought a 1962 Les Paul". You'd have to *really* not know what you were doing, because the only "Les Paul" guitars in 1962 had the SG body shape.

      I'm not so sure he wasn't just speaking in general. Les Pauls are very common, either the Standard/Custom shape or the SG, and I'd bet Harrison is well aware of the differences, or at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

I knew it was right around between the early and mid 70s. Like I have a Les Paul myself. And I thought it was a 2010 model. And upon further inspection and investigating the serial number it turned out it was a 2003 guitar not a 2010. And also the model it was only made in 2003 and 2004. Didn't need to check the pots. Notice Jesse didn't. I saw it with the purple lining in the case(70's)as soon as he opened it, then the body separation, and volute. 60's serial numbers got re-used in the 70's as well, so that's fairly worthless to date them until about 76 when they put sn's on a decal. I've dealt with a lot of people who thought they had a valuable piece and didn't. At least this guy accepted it and didn't go into denial mode like a lot of them do.

      Pretty sure his name is Tony Spinner and he actually did play and tour with Toto. He was the singer for their song "Stop Loving You".

      @@ozzyktm no, that is not Tony Spinner. That is Rod Miller. Rod never toured as a member of Toto or Triumph. Tony toured with Toto as you point out but never with Triumph. Phil X toured as a member of Triumph after Rik Emmett left the band. Rick Santer toured as a back up guitarist with Triumph in the mid 1980’s. In recent years when Triumph reunited for a few shows Dave Dunlap joined them as a backup guitarist to Rik Emmett.

    2:04 not possible. a 1962 Les Paul is actually an SG it has a completely different body shape. In 1969 they went back to the les Paul body shape due to higher consumer demands. You could obviously tell the difference between them right off the bat.

    Rick, we were there.😂 Didn’t quite extend into hair metal. Triumph, rock and roll. Toto, pop. But it’s all good. After all, the goal was to have a spotty memory. So by 1990 we had achieved our goal in life. Rock on, brother.

    Rick: Lemme call a buddy of mine, he knows everything there is to know about these types of guitars, he used to tour with bands like Toto, he can tell us exactly what it is and what it's worth.

    There's a lot of guitar experts giving some (extremely valid, I'll admit) criticism here, but this is Pawn Stars - it's a show aimed at people who may not know anything about certain things, but something about other things, that's what's fun about it. It's an entertainment program.
    I know a reasonable amount about guitars, and I could tell right off the bat that this was never gonna be a 1960 Les Paul -- the guitar just screams 70's. But show me some American coin from 1871 that's supposed to be super rare and I've got absolutely no idea what to look for to tell whether it's worth ten dollars or ten thousand.

    I have a 1974 Les Paul Custom, and my immediate thought was 'that looks like 1970s to me'. Definitely not 1974 though.

    Point of fact: Les Paul did invent the solid body guitar.

      Факт: Les Paul не изобретал гитару, ему дали на пробу уже готовую гитару на фабрике. Les Paul сделали инженеры фабрики.

    As soon as I saw that LP I thought it looked exactly like my black '74 Custom I bought new. But mine has Grover tuners so I'd guess that one is a '71 or ''72. Just pop off the back cover and take a look at the potentiometers, they should have a year code on them.

    Back in the 70s though Gibson had two places they made guitars, one was in Nashville, Tennessee (I think opened in '74) - where it is today - and the other was in Kalamazoo Michigan; this was probably made in Michigan and could be confirmed (maybe) by the serial #, which they never looked at. Michigan-made Gibsons can command a higher price as there's only a finite amount of LPs that were made there left on earth. The other thing he didn't ask about was the pickups. If those were original they may have been hand wound, that also would up the price as those were unique to each guitar.
