  • Gibson Les Paul Custom long review by Rolly! The amp is a Fender Super Reverb 65 Reissue | Please give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel!
First of all let's start with a bit of history before I go into details about this guitar: The Gibson Les Paul first appeared in 1952 with a mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard and two P90 single coil pickups. In late 1953, a more luxurious version was introduced, most likely at the specific request of Les Paul himself, as he wanted a more luxurious and classy looking guitar. He asked for a black guitar as he wanted it to "look like a tuxedo". The iconic Les Paul Custom was born...
Nicknamed the "Black Beauty", the guitar had gold-plated hardware, a mahogany body and neck, mother of pearl block markers inlays in the fretboard. The "Split Diamond" inlay on the headstock was taken from the carved archtop Super 400, which was the top of the Gibson line. The frets were low and flat for maximum speed, as opposed to the usual medium jumbo frets found on other Les Pauls. As a result, the guitar soon was given the nickname "The Fretless Wonder". In mid-1957, Gibson began to equip the Les Paul Custom with the new PAF (Patent Applied For) pickup designed by Seth Lover...
Anyway, enough of the history lesson...this is a wonderful guitar! It's really classy, luxurious looking with the black finish and gold hardware...also the TRIPLE binding makes the contour amazing!
This is a 2022 built VERY NEW, 70th Anniversary (collectible) guitar! You can't find any issues at all. Perfect finish, perfect sound and playability (just check my video with it)
The action is very low, it's really super easy and smooth to play everywhere on the neck.
And the sound? That is HUGE! Have a look at my demo! The sound is massive! So warm, so sweet!!!! Yes I love it so much!!!! Big sustain as well as you can imagine from a top end, Custom Shop made Les Paul!
These "Customs" are amazing guitars, these are built with none chambered, non weight relieved mahogany body, one piece mahogany neck...even from Mother-of-pearl it has triple amount....and it's REAL Mother-of-pearl not celluloid plastic than on the Standards and cheaper models....
It's in ABSOLUTE MINT condition (just take a look at the pictures and the video!), no buckle rash, dings, dents or chips. It's got a professional set-up so it plays beautifully. The guitar is totally original, only a few years old, comes with its original hard case (in MINT condition) and certificate etc...
This model sells new for £4700. This one is mint, nearly zero use, for much less.

Mine from 2023 and I measured the 1st fret out of curiousity and to my surprise it was 0.89" which I believed it's on the chunky side... I really been enjoying playing it and sounds fantastic.

The overspray on the neck binding is intentional as it is period-correct for the original 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard. It's supposed to be there. I have the 2022 Tangerine Burst Historic VOS

The regular Les Paul Custom is the holy grail Gibson sound. I am on the market to find the right one.

I agree that they play like butter. Ebony, size of frets and neck shape combined with lush and powerful pickups.

Beautiful! Absolutely prestigious. Great balanced tone while maintaining the crispy heft of a les paul custom's characteristic sound. What more can i say really?

IMO, Gibson should offer the Custom in the US production line again. They could offer them in solid finishes for like $3k and sell as many as they can make. Purists and collectors who want period correct reissue specs and the extra attention to detail will still shell out the $5k for Custom Shop versions, just like the R9's, etc.. I don't see the down side. They did it for decades.

Epiphone is what you want. $3k puts the custom at the standard’s price point. From plain top to dealer exclusives.

@@bayougtr Nope, Epiphone is NOT what I want. No thanks. I said "solid finishes".... $3k Standards have AA figured tops.... Standards with solid colors are $2799 and Classics are $2199. It doesn't have to be exactly $3k either. Even $3199, $3299, whatever... the point was they good offer it for less than the custom shop and close to everything else in the US production line. They did it for decades. The customs weren't always made in the custom shop.

@@Darth.Shredderyou have to pay to play. Gibson COULD throw custom fret boards and headstock veneers on at the USA factory, and do custom style binding, but why would they when people are willing to pay at least twice as much for a custom shop guitar?
It’s the same reason Ferrari doesn’t make a $100K model. It would allow too many people to enter that world and brag that they have a Ferrari. It would dilute the brand and make it “feel” less exclusive, even though that’s objectively meaningless.
When you see someone driving a brand new Ferrari, you may not assume they’re a billionaire, but you definitely think “wow, they’re doing something right to afford that”.
Gibson knows their customers who want customs want to feel exclusive, just like a Ferrari owner wants to feel exclusive. That’s at least part of the reason why they won’t be bringing any custom shop looks to the USA factory anytime soon.
Now you can go get an Epiphone that, for all intents and purposes is built to the SAME specs as a Gibson custom shop, but it will be made in china and not say Gibson on the headstock.
Some people are okay with that, some aren’t. I bought an Adam Jones Epiphone with the Gibson headstock. It was $1500. You what that made me want to do? Buy a full blown Gibson custom shop guitar. So I did. Why? Because I was so impressed with the Epiphone model, I assumed the real deal would only get better.

@@SlangJeezy I've played Gibson since the 1980's. The Ferrari analogy and assumptions about exclusivity may have made sense if the Custom model was always made in the custom shop but for over 30 years it was part of the US production line like anything else. BTW every Ferrari is overpriced, every Gibson isn't - at least in relation to another. A Les Paul Studio is $1600 new - still a Gibson, still made in the USA in the same place a Custom used to be made.
As far as Epiphones... Guitars are more than just "specs". Besides, there are no regulations in China. "Mahogany" can be anything and craftsmanship is about more than pushing a button on a CNC machine. I'd personally never buy a Chinese Epiphone, especially for the prices they're asking. Gibson has used Epiphone to replace price points and diversity they used to offer in their lineup and they're laughing all the way to the bank.
