Peace & Love
Very happy with this guitar, it’ll make a great addition to my recordings going forward. Needless to say it’s taking some getting used to! We’re still getting acquainted!
Congrats and enjoy!
Is it the change in scale length, the huskier sound of the humbuckers or a little of both?
Do you know any history of it?
I see an Abasi guitar in your future
I have a 72 l.p. custom blk beauty.I bought new in 72.norlin era guitars are fantastic.it will be one of ur favorites.congrats.😃
Dude I will say it again congrats! Such a cool guitar I love my 79.
Robert!
Les Paul tone tip... lower that neck pup to where the top of the cover is level with the ring. It’ll add a touch of needed clarity to the neck pup. That bridge pup is on point though 🤟
Level with the ring? I'm sorry I probably sound dumb but can you explain this further for me? I wanna tweak my les paul
yeah but that's not a uniform pickup height across LPs given how much the neck angle varies and how each one might be set up. Use your ears not your eyes
Kaleb Braun,
As a guideline, simply lower the neck pickup (pup) height by using the middle/center screw until the top of the pup is even/level with the pickup mounting ring. It helps reduce the muddiness in neck humbucker pups.
kabukiman69,
Calm your tits... it’s just a guideline broskie. That isn’t etched in stone but adjusting them like that has worked for me.
Does that apply to SG's as well?
One top hat, nose ring, wah pedal and cool pair of sunglasses until your full transition into slash is complete, the proficy will be fulfilled!!!
lol
Bea already has a nose ring though.
T H I C C E R nose ring
Better guitar player than Mr. Hudson in my humble opinion. Don't shoot me down, it's just my personal taste.
Saul, Slash, Mr. Hudson, A turd is a turd is a turd, shit by any other name stinks the same........
hey Rabea, I have one of these too and just wanted to share a few tips from my own experience having owned it for over 30 years -
-check the bridge for 'sag' as they collapse in the centre over time - this prevents the guitar from being set up correctly and feeling and playing as it should, as it no longer follows the 12" board radius.
-also get the top nut checked out at the same time as the above - LP's can (and should) play brilliantly but usually have lost some of that original 'feel' due to the two points above
-I had mine rewired to be out of phase in the mid position, which gives it a little more versatility (I believe Page also did this)
-Kluson 'Wafflebacks' fit perfectly into the head with no holes or marks and work just fine
-keep all the original parts and label them!! if you ever re-sell these will increase the value
One other thing, check the pups on yours, they sound awesome but maybe have been upgraded over the years? The originals are still on mine but if I'm honest, are the one thing that let this guitar down. It's just another Norlin thing!!
All said and done, I absolutely LOVE mine. One of my favourite things is actually the way it smells when you open the case - it's like opening a portal to a different era and you are magically transported back in time to smokey clubs and an incredible live music scene - ENJOY!
Got the little Tool part there 😉 awesome playing as always
Jonas Backer man! That ear wormed me too! I had to hit pause and go play Lateralus!
@@Auxend just learned Schism today! My favourite band at the moment for sure!
Have a 1984 Les Paul custom picked it up when I was 14 at a garage sale for 20 years I thought it was fake because of the three pickups Norm was nice enough to tell me it was real. I bought a 71 that sounded very much like my 84, but had a nasty bottom end very much like yours. Congrats!
I've been to Norm's, I used to live in LA. I couldn't afford anything in the shop that I lusted for. You must have broke the bank for a 71 'Paul there! That thing kills!!! through the Super Kraken. Outstanding! I'm jealous! I expect to see you on the arena circuit soon. That thing combined with your gear and talent are a winner, mate! Kudos.
The thing is that YOU can make every single guitar sound great man! You rock!
I think if I had this guitar I'd bin all my other hardtail humbucker guitars. This guitar is a living breathing BEAST!!!
That's "THE ONE"!!!!! It's everything there is to love about a Les Paul. It growls. It cry's. It sings.
Congrats!!
.....it's sorta' like picking a puppy. If it comes up to you and wants to play...THATS THE ONE!!
The guitar is beat to hell and damn is it beautiful
Panda Mcmuffin yup, theres nothing like a sexy older woman with some scars and character and a story to tell.
@@jimsinister13 lol what 😂
It’s definitely a bit banged on. It made me cringe when I seen the neck crack.. But hey. You couldn’t really replicate the Character of where it’s been & how much it’s been played. I like how he’s all about just playing the crap out of it & it not just being in a case to say you got it. Rock on 🤘 brother, sounds so great!
I love all the Finish checking. The guitar looks amazing.
There is nothing, nothing more glorious than a Paul in to a cranked Marshall. Everything else is just......
Pheww!!! That bridge pup is raunchy AF. 😂😂😂. LOVE IT!!!
The day you pick up a penguin will be the greatest. Cheers from the cornfields of the USA!
Hahahah the best bit is that I would love to Pick up a penguin and dip it in my Tea. English peeps will know what I’m sayin!

@@RabeaMassaad sadly Americans aren't sophisticated enough for tea and biscuits.
Ahh you can keep your tea and sophistication, I'll keep my coffee and open space 😉
Alistair Hennessey sadly you’re a nationalist prick
Looks amazing dude, love the liquid lead tone you get on the neck pickup, sounds absolutely killer!
That "liquid" tone is what's missing in sooo many guitarists' tones for me, it's really specific
@@fenderbender9907 That's so true. What do you think makes that "liquid"? Is it the magnets or the impedance or the old wood or all of them together?
@@inkpinz I really don't know, but Les Pauls in general do it for me, so I'll say it's the pickups and the wood, impedance doesn't seem that important if you ask me
It looks and sounds amazing! I picked up a ‘78 Gibson RD Custom about a year ago that has killer tone. I picked it up from the original owner. He never played it and it lived in it’s case under the bed. I pretty much bought a brand new ‘78 Gibson RD.
That sound...oh my goodness...magical...i wish I could purchase the same pickups for starters...none of the new ones sound like that..
It sounds absolutely unbelievable. Of course a big part of any guitar is the guitarist, but you and that guitar were meant to be a team. Its got a lot of fire left in that timber. Nice to know that you will ring it out of it. Really looking to hear more. Congratulations Rabea, good choice man.
That's so you that guitar! I love the gold binding.
That’s not gold binding. It’s white. Or at least it was white in 1971. 50 years of tobacco smoke and yellowed lacquer definitely changed it.
13:40 Those harmonics sound incredible. So clean and pure. A great guitar in the hands of a brilliant player.
Gibson's are hit or miss, especially the newer one but gosh DAMN that '71 HAS IT! Bite, clarity, rawness of an old Les Paul.
@David N I guess I mispoke. I mean that every vintage Les Paul is unique and some of them have the magic mojo and some don't. This is more common in old Strats in my opinion though.
The guitar looks and sounds good... but sweet Lord the Super Kraken is sounding tasty
I love that guitar. Custom black beauty
Congratulations man
After hundreds of guitars,
custom ones,
signature ones,
one of a kinds,
King Rabea has a Les Paul on his hands
and the trusty old Stratocaster on his right.
I'm so glad to already see footage of this beast. You deserve all the best guitars in the world, lol. Have fun man!
It doesn't sound sick. It sounds absolutely MONSTROUS!! Such a kickass guitar, i'd kill for a Les Paul Custom. I defintiely think u'll have tons of fun with that one!
Thats a beastly sound coming out of that Custom...Great find!!!
Dig it! I just picked up a 73 custom with a neck repair as well. Got it for a great price and it sings and screams just like yours. Awesome tones! 😎🎸👊🏻
That binding color on the black body is just so badass. Great looking and sounding guitar. The broken and fixed neck somehow adds to its charm!!!!!
I was always a strat guy, but. Sometimes a guitar just speaks straight to your soul and one day I picked up a, 2013 Gibson Les Paul, LPJ and I fell in love with it. There's a magic in that guitar that just sits so well with me! Sweet guitar, Bea! As always, great playing! Take care!
I've got a '13 LPJ too. It's barebones and a solid workhorse.
@@akagob_ Best bang for buck. In my opinion! I put a, dimarzio super distortion in the bridge and a humbucker from hell in the neck. Sweet sounds for low dollar!
Those are great, my friend has a '14 LPJ that we used yesterday in the studio with a Marshall DSL40C that has a WAREHOUSE speaker in it. It sounded great!
sounds incredible... i love that sound and your playing.. love from india
Great point in bringing up the fight. Les Paul is a guitar that says don't play me unless you have something to play.
That's my dream guitar, saving like hell, one day!!
Sounds amazing, it roars like a beast. Love the little tool riff btw
Man bea, this is exactly how a Gibson should sound. It's sounds better than the 59s everyone seems to be paying stupid amounts of money for.
Allan Whittick “everyone” ... i wish i had that cash my friend 😆
Great to see you at NAMM, I got to shake your hand at the Kemper booth, Thursday after lunch, I was the tall guy standing with another tall guy, we were stoked to see you. Cheers!
I have an 81 custom that people claim wasn't made during a good era, but it's one of the best feeling and sounding LP's I've ever put my hands on. But I'm not a Les Paul purist or collector, so it's more about functionality and sound.
That guitar sounds so dirty...in such a good way. Only the way a Les Paul can. Congrats mate!
Give top wrapping a shot Rabea, you might love it.
Simply the most beautiful guitar of all time! Black beauty I pickup brand new in the shop back in 1975 Black beauty still have it, my main ax and warhorse, I have Tom Anderson and many other in my collection including PRS. but that Les Paul will always is the one
There’s nothing like a Les Paul. I used to be a strat guy. I mean I still am. ;) but I never bonded or got a Les Paul. Now I can’t not have one in my life 🥰 That’s a beauty man. congrats. 🍾 if I were looking for a custom that would be about perfect 👌🏻 reliced by time and sweat.
I totally get the "fighting" aspect of playing a LP! I had one for a while and sold it later for this reason. They´re great, but just not for me. They do kick ass for heavy base guitars recording though! Great piece of instrument! Cheers!
Perhaps it's the shorter scale length. I want to love LPs but I really do feel the difference in the scale length and it's something that really bothers me.
Apart from the feel and design or the body, for me everything seems a tighter fit with the width of the neck, scale length is fine as my brain seems to like shorter scale guitars
Such a gorgeous guitar
I’ve got a 78 black beauty and it is the only guitar I’ve ever owned that is untouchable as far as I will NEVER get rid of it. It is just awesome. I’ve probably owned at least 60 different guitars over the years including a lot of high quality instruments and it remains my personal favorite to this day.
Holy crap….that thing looks and sounds amazing! Worth every penny, IMO!
Bring it to andertons next time, compare it to Pete's.
Polaritypictures this needs to happen.
I think Pete's is a 58. Not sure though
It's a classic. @@bigstam1234567890
@@bigstam1234567890 definitely not a '58 lol
@@Dagger_323 Meant '58 reissue, was still not sure though
cheeky bit of lateralus at 11:36 Bea!
Tool 🔥🔥
Yes....tool!
I caught that as well.
I totally get it. I just bought a brand new Custom. The vibe and the build quality are second to none. Cheers and congrats.
God I love this guitar 😊 Its both equally beautiful sounding, and looking! YUMMY 😍 Congratulations Mr Massaad! 👍
Awesome guitar Rabea! I recommend trying top wrapping. It appears the angle is pretty steep from bridge to tail. Sometimes it can be too steep and the string touches the back of the bridge, but not sure that is happening just sayin'. I really like the feel of top wrapping, it may be a little slinkier. Also allows tail to be lowered all the way! Enjoy my friend!!!
Very cool. Think Norm's should have dressed the frets for you though.
He said the guitar came in 30 mins before they got there...
Congrats brother!! Just goes to prove my point, I work at a small mom and pop shop in Ohio in the states, and I always tell customers play every guitar you can get your hands on , cause you will be blown away by the ones that will speak to you. A guitar is chunks of wood and and every one is different, cause no two trees are the same. Love your work, please keep rocking and sharing your journey!!!
That guitar just sounds like magic in your hands, congrats Rabea.
There is a chap named Dave that is selling one nice white Penguin later this year, you should check it out
It's time for sounding like Gave Dilmour BY busting the bank 😁
I've been on the hunt for the perfect 54-56 LP Custom, even reissue. I've never found THE one but I've only had a chance at 3 to play/buy. I'm confident I'll find it. The Gold Tuners are the way to go
had my filthy paws on a 55 when I was 19 or 20... couldn't even come close to affording it then, haven't seen one in person since and they've tripled in price since
Beautiful guitar.... I’m in love with 70’s Les Paul’s as well, that’s just awesome
I literally just decided I want a 71 LP Custom a few days ago. So jelly this thing sounds beastly.
Congrats! It is wonder-full!
My dad bought a 69 custom in 93 for £400,and sold for the same price 2,years later I dread to think what it would be worth now.
A 69 custom in good nick £8_9000 no joke.
terrytickler There’s a few 69 les Paul customs on reverb for about 6500
Dollars btw
Goes up to over 10,000 dollars on some.
I love my 69 custom. I bought it back in 95 or so from some dude for £400. Not sure if he knew what he had!
@@adamterry6383 sounds like you met this guys dad.
What an insanely beautiful looking and sounding guitar, absolute major find it. Glad you're happy, treasure it!
i was just wondering what one like that goes for now days.....i sure would like to have one..yours is amazing..you seem to have found your soulmate..im happy for you may it bring you endless joy..good video
Were you not very nervous about having to fly it back? Or how did you get it back?
norms probably shipped it to his house
Think Rabea took it with him, there's a shot in one of the various travel logs of a nervous fro as his new baby is the last guitar in the boot of a very full car!
I think I saw he took it as hand luggage on the flight back home :D
It had it's own seat by the window.
Probably bought and extra plane seat for the guitar. I know I would have.
1:58 - you're missing a screw on the tuner - would that affect the tuning stability?
RchrdNaylor that depends.. some of the grover tuners have little pins where the surface meets the back of the headstock. If that is the case and you screw the washer on the front on tight enough, it shouldn’t make a difference.
If the tuners don’t have these pins, the tuner will propably turn, to the tension of the string and your guitar will go out of tune
This just looks RIGHT!😍 I always knew you’d get a Custom when you’d eventually buy a Les Paul!
That's a fine sounding and good looking old axe. Don't worry about the neck repair, that glued joint is now the strongest part of the neck.
Bea: "The Gretsch Penguin and that is it."
Who are you trying to trick, you tricky trickster? Is your girlfriend watching the show?
this is everything i love about a Gibson, thick midrange with sparkly top-end but still versatile for everything between jazz and metal. Not something i can say about newer gibson's, what happened to them? quantity over quality
I think the new CEO is taking the company back to it's roots then working forward. Check out jonseys juckbox interview with him, quite a recent one. It's on UA-cam.
Loved the way the jam was going around 10 minutes in an forward. That guitar sounds amazing in your hands!
One of my favorite guitarists. So happy for you.
Rock on Rab! 🍻
Fast forward 2 years. There will be another “one”
Great stuff mate - what tuning and gauge you set it up in?
That guitar sounds ridiculously good. What an amazing find. You deserve it!
Love how guitars just pop into your life. I’ve had that happen where this guitar just came in or it just got listed, and these were some pretty unique guitars I was looking for...Next thing you know they are yours.
Hey bea, like always I get serious gear envy on your page if you get a chance can you please please do a lesson on Abomasum , for the life of me I can't figure it out many thanks
That's tasty
Of all the youtubers, I’m definitely most envious of your guitar collection. Lots of good wood man
Amazing guitar! I inherited a les Paul from my father-in-law. And it’s amazing. All gold hardware and a wine red color. I feel your love!
I heard just a bit of tool ;)
How do you fly a guitar back?
They're carry on luggage with most airlines. Otherwise you check it and keep your fingers crossed that they don't lose it or it gets stolen.
What he said, but checking in is rough even with fragile stickers. I once sent one with shock indicators and they all triggered. Came out ok though.
I take my guitar as a carry on luggage works every time at least on international flight, they just put the guitar in the compartment where the rich people in business and first class put their coats in XD
Here in the States, at least, it's law that a guitar must be accepted as carry-on if the passenger requests it. Thanks, Obama 🤘👍
On a plane.
I could listen to rabea play for hours
Hi Rabea, I'm happy for you, but even happier for the guitar! It couldn't have found a better home. Never mind the nay sayers of the Norlin era. You make this guitar sing. Rock on!
Can you make a Chapman to sound and play like a les Paul?
Gino LaMendola the lp style model gets pretty close, with a change to maybe PAF pickups it would be spot I think. :)
If it were built the exact same way (exact same shape, same woods, same finish ,the whole nine yards), sure. Else, it'll be close, but not the same. Play several LP derivatives (japanese knockoffs, ESP Eclipses, Schecter), ideally side by side, and see for yourself.
It's honestly my holy grail guitar I've wanted since I was 9
Yeah, I was surprised when you said in the other video you were going to look at a Les Paul. There's a lot of good guitars out these days, but the L.P is still my favorite.... and I couldn't agree more... gotta have a strat, a tele, and a LP.
Wow!!... I have a 73 custom, got it off a mate in 91 not sure he knew what he had at the time.. just an awesome looking guitar.... rock and or roll...
I'm glad that you enjoyed my country and that you're pleased with your new old souvenir. Rock it in good health young man!
It’s incredible from hard rock to jazzy sound. Very nice
Man that thing has aged beautifully. I bought an early 2000s les Paul supreme that's just beautiful in its own way and sounds good too
LPs and Gibson guitars are my favorite by far. The trick is finding ones that feel right and don't have other defects (bendy necks/tuning issues). They are all very unique. New or old - doesn't matter. I tend to favor late 70s and mid 90s but I have from all years 60s to present day. I have played and own many models... they all feel/sound different. Nothing beats them for classic/hard rock. Guitars are like the wands in Harry Potter - they choose you. You just have to be in the right place at the right time. BTW - your '71 sounds and looks freakin' awesome. Glad you found it.
Congratulations!! In december of 2018 I also acquired a 1974 LP custom, amazing guitar, have a good time with it.
HELL YESS!!!! That is a tone MONSTER in your hands sir! 1970 LPC is my dream guitar. Your ‘71 is damn fine. Well played!
Peace!
Like butter. Man, SO good - tones and playing are out of this world.
I have been checking out Les Paul custom videos for a long time, but since the day I watched your video,I keep coming back to this! That Les Paul really wants to say something!
Congratulations Rabea, being an owner of a 71 custom sunburst myself I know what you mean about vibe.
Possibly the best Les Paul tone I've ever heard! Especially while listening through some high quality headphones. That guitar + pickups + Victory Super Kraken + great player makes for an amazing combination.
Dude, that thing sounds like the long lost rock thunder, until recently believed to be extinct. It’s very nice. Enjoy!
I like guitars with little stories. The fact it came in 20 mins before a chance visit that you may not have made to make is fate. It was meant to be. Sounds incredible.
