This is precisely what I like about Matt Smith's Doctor. One minute he's this silly alien and then BOOM! perfect segue into something serious. That train of logic is flawless, if strange.
Mitch Brown Yeah David was a good doctor but all his introduction was is "Oh hello, Merry Christmas!" *faints* He probably needed this into to keep people hating him for replacing David as the doctor.
In hindsight I actually think this is the best 'first episode' for a new Doctor in the whole show. It accomplishes so much while doing so little - all he's doing is trying food in a stranger's house. And yet it establishes his companion's character and backstory, his relationship with her, his personality, and the arc of the season (the cracks in time) all in like ~10 minutes. The other Doctor's intros are amusing, but this one is superior in terms of writing craftsmanship.
Even more of a fun fact. the first time he eats them it's really a pastry cake made to look like a fish finger. The Doctor always wins without even competing.

Rewatching this and looking closely, this is an amazing introduction for the Doctor, this Doctor, Moffat's Doctor. He's a walking contradiction who doesn't know what he wants or what he's talking about. He's silly. He's funny. He's good with kids. He's quick-witted and observant. But most of all, he wants to be the hero. Just based on this scene alone with Amelia, you KNOW who the Doctor is and what Moffat's mission statement was. But most importantly he adds, "the Doctor lies".
I can now officially say that I have tried fish fingers dunked in custard. Not as bad as you’d think and honestly hits different if you have a weird craving. Give it a try!

Jenifer Gardner Did you check the library??
+Jenifer Gardner Amazon Prime has all the seasons...
This defines Matt Smith's doctor in EVERY WAY.
Course your not scared, your not scared of anything!
Box falls out of sky, man falls out of box, and look at you! Your just sitting there!
He looks like he's eating french toast sticks instead of fish fingers.
Is it just me or are all the doctors really funny yet insane in a good way, right after they regenerate?
Defenetly not just you😂
We call it being high on regeneration energy
That awkward moment when u realise that matt isnt eating fish sticks, hes actually eating coconut sticks
"you´re scottish. fry something." - hilarious moment!
Bacon...that's bacon? Are you trying to poison me?
Everytime my mom asks me what I want for dinner, I'm like "custard and fish fingers" and then we allways eat pizza
0:21 Everything tastes RAWWWWWWW
I read that he didn't even eat fishfingers with custard xD But i tried it and i kinda love it tbh
LMAO
