    just an FYI, you should always advise wearing safety glasses when removing and installing the bearings. (this was a perfect example) on the way out they have the tendency to explode, and when your using the bearing driver, hitting the back of the metal handle, little metal burs could cut loose and fly at you. safety first

    Who checked the reason it leaked in the first place??? hint its small usually overlooked but very important... you do it every few seconds and your diff has to also...
    Hint... the breather... and if its plugged you will always have either a pinion seal leak or axle seal leak... Always check the breather.

    Dude check this you got the tool to do the job right next to you,the problem is your just not swinging those hammers like you got a pair.with that tool all you really need is to hit it 3 time maybe 4 and you really shouldn't be hitting the bearing with the hammer

    Very interesting, but no way! I have a 66 F-100 that has a leaky rear seal. The previous owner said that it leaks because that axle was corroded. and they are hard to find. I still wanted to check it out. I think my axles would come out easier?

    It does not make sense to put a repair kit bearing in there when the shaft is still OK, just get the correct bearing and seal.

    • @ScottiesHobbies
      @ScottiesHobbies  4 роки тому +3

      So just put bearings in the same spot on the shaft that was warn down so you have a instant seal leak when done, what ever you feel like doing. I personally like doing a job once but if you wanna do it twice that's ok too.

    I'm looking to replace the rear axle seals and bearings in my 04 Silverado it also has the G80 in the diff. Once I take the differential pin out, you need to rotate the diff to get to the c clip that holds the axle. I won't mess up the g80 locker by rotating the diff will I? I think I heard somewhere that you can possibly un-spring the g80 when you rotate the differential without the pin in, is this true?

  • @bobphillips1027
    @bobphillips1027 3 роки тому +1

    FYI take time to pull seal out first then using bearing removal tool. Might not have ruined bearing.

    • @ScottiesHobbies
      @ScottiesHobbies  3 роки тому +4

      Great tip! I'd honestly plan on removing the bearing if I was going to take the time to get to the seal. I'd hate to replace the seal and the bearing go bad shortly after and end up doing it again. 💪👍 keep up the great work. Hopefully you got the intel needed to get your diy project done. 👍👍

    This is the way it is but i have never seen nor used a steel hammer on a bearing (24:00 area). Other wise this is how they come out!

    • @ScottiesHobbies
      @ScottiesHobbies  5 років тому +1

      Hammer isn't the best but it works. The hardened casing of a bearing is verry unlikely to get pitted. But to eliminate the possibility use a press. This one was a pain in the ass. What could have gone wrong did.

    • @ScottiesHobbies
      @ScottiesHobbies  5 років тому +1

      How long does it take to come out ya think? Should I post a update vid for you? Ive only put about 40k since.

  • @garylindsey4170
    @garylindsey4170 5 років тому +2

    you should not Hammer a bearing in like that before you inserted that bearing you should have lubed it up to make it slide in easier and you should use a flat piece of metal or a piece of two by four you have only cause more damage.

    • @ScottiesHobbies
      @ScottiesHobbies  5 років тому

      By your statement is true. When hitting your bearing with a hammer you are more likely and prone to do damage when you use a hardened steel hammer. When the steal of the hammer is harder than the steal of the bearing race that is when you get damaged. Have you ever seen Damage Done by hitting a race with hammer? Please point it out to me. If you had something on hands or had time to prep you could buy a bearing race installer as well. I used to have one I'm not quite sure where it went.

      Devo Dar great point bro . Safe or not I will never hit a bearing with even a baby sledge. ( BEATER ). Just because..... not a good idea to potentially damage a new part . But awesome video , and just like my luck ! I love it .

    My axle won't go in all the way so the c clip won't come out. Any advice?

    • @ScottiesHobbies
      @ScottiesHobbies  6 років тому +1

      +adrian if it was mine I would think I would have two choices. The first choice would to be to hit the axle shaft with a hammer to try to get it to push in so I can get the C-clamp out. My second option would be to just find another where in and replace it with a known good rear end. In my Tahoe I did the bearings but ended up having a bit shaft and found a better rear end than what was in there for about a hundred and fifty bucks on Craigslist. Good luck and let me know what you come up with and how the repair turns out thanks for the view.

    • @superbudgrower
      @superbudgrower 6 років тому

      Scotties Hobbies I tried hitting it with a rubber mallet but it wouldn't go in any further. The rear end is fairly new, it only has 23k miles so I wouldn't want to replace it.
