With the recent announcements covering Yakuza's western releases, we decided to talk about a Yakuza title that we're highly unlikely to ever see in the west. Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin follows Sakamoto Ryoma during the Bakumatsu period of Japan, and has a fair share of historical Japanese themes. The game originally released for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), but was also ported to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) as a launch title in the Japanese region. Through our analysis, we hope to explains some of the title's gameplay and give some insight as to why it stayed in Japan. Fans will notice how this game is distinct form the recently released Yakuza 0.

Had an awesome time helping bring this one together. Glad everyone is catching on that there's Yakuza games outside of the main series entries that deserve a second look.
This must be as depressing for you as it is for me. It just sounds sort of odd to me that they're using a negative response toward cut content (in other words, people were upset with 3 in the West because they wanted MORE, not less) along with a negative response to an unorthodox spinoff in order to justify not releasing a masterpiece like Ishin on a broader scale? That sounds patently absurd. On top of that, I have to disagree with the video regarding the Western knowledge of the historical setting and figures in the game. The Shinsengumi in particular have been a big deal over here for ages, especially to almost everyone who would fall into the target audience for a game like this. From fans of old films, to anime fans, to die hard SNK fans (there would be more "Last" Blades than "Final" Fantasies if we had our way, *this story has STILL not yet ended* damn it), the fact that this game features not only the Shinsengumi, but Sakamato Ryoma AS a secret member, is all most people need to hear to be sold on it. Personally I'm stunned that FOUR Hakuōki games made it in the West during the years leading right up to this games release and apparently no one over there noticed? Eh, this just sounds more like a case of "we don't care enough" instead of "we feel it's not worth the risk".
The timing really didn't help. SEGA in the west was being completely restructured at the time this was being released in Japan. By the time things had settled down we didn't even have Yakuza 5 in the west yet so the priority was getting that out. Once that was released Yakuza 0 was already out in japan so SEGA went right in to localizing that instead of Ishin.
It was a bunch of factors that just didn't work it. Huge shame because it's one of the best games in the series!
I blame western taste, my younger cousins are all more impressed with fps games than Yakuza 0 its a generation thing I guess.
I bought this game and tried to play it along with a translation website that helped guide you through the game with english translations, but it wasn't complete and I gave up after a while. I ended up selling it out of frustration. Its a shame because its a really awesome game with an interesting story and setting, but the language barrier was just too much.
Any word on Yakuza Black Panther English fan sub?
Look at how well Ghost of Tsushima did. It is tragic that this game never was brought to the west, it looks so fun and interesting.
And don't forget how sekiro became GOTY 2019. Maybe sega and RGG studio need to learn from it
Sega has said that they are interested in localizing the games but that they haven't found space in their schedule.
ikr
@@redscience2117 not only time, but also sega don't wanna show the wrong things in yakuza ishin
@@redscience2117 It means that we will get them sooner or later though.
Ishin finally remade, localized and made available for outside Japan is such a great news.
Its sad that the belief that western audiences wont understand is what stops them from localizing it. I mean there are people who try to learn about different countries cultures, customs, history. On a side note them thinking dead souls was going to have great sales is laughable, its like do i wanna play another zombie open world game or a samurai open world game BASED on true event and figures, The answer seems pretty clear.
You say that, but Call of Duty was still the number one selling game in 2017. Trendy games are hip, man and there's no bigger trend in America than the zombie apocalypse. Honestly makes sense.
That being said it does irk me that Ishin/Kenzan aren't coming west. I just imported it and played with a guide. Totally worth it.
The zommbie spinoff isent that bad its still a yakuza game at its core
As a part of the western audience, i wished they knew how much we enjoy games from japan. Yes there’s always mods, patches and all for English translation but Games like Dragons Dogma Online was smth I wanted to enjoy with my friends, but sadly we didn’t get what we hoped for
I currently live in Japan and many Japanese people are very insular. Most people don't understand why people would be interested in other countries' cultures besides surface-level things like food and landmarks. It's starting to change now, but often first two questions you get from Japanese people are "why are you here?" and "when are you leaving?".
@@KevinMCadet the “ when are you leaving?” feels kinda rude to me man, honestly no offence in any way
So wait let me get this straight.... instead of giving us this awesome game, they gave us a zombie Yakuza game assuming thats all we understand? They gotta do a better job at gathering data on what players want.
Dead souls is actually really fun though, its probably one of the best zombie games I've played and its not just zombies in the game.
To be fair, have you SEEN the averages for the Western gamer market, both from a long time ago and the modern? They gave us "easy" RPGs because they though the West was "too stupid". Now, they think the West has no cultural sensitivity or interest in other cultures.
And on BOTH accounts, they were right. While not every single gamer can be categorized under a single blanket, what you have to look at is business. MOST Western people infatuated with Japan's culture and history just end up moving to Japan and integrating into their society-- which means all that's left in the Western side are the "idiots who don't care". Which, again, in a business perspective, is too accurate to ignore.
Frankly, I want to play ALL the games in the Yakuza series. They're fantastic games and I love them to death. And frankly, I enjoyed Dead Souls.
Well Dead Souls came out 3 years earlier than Inshin, They didn't localize it because they thought spin offs would be too hard a sell in the west,
I'm surprised they're localziing Kiwami.
fun fact: i really liked dead souls, though i didn't knew it actually got released in the west until this video... yakuza have TERIBLE advertising, both ind of advert, quantity and ad placements.
they're litterally unknown games.
Ryna but Kiwami isn't a spinoff, it's the remake of the first mainline game
The chapter of "games that stayed in Japan" is the saddest and most frustrating chapter in video game history EVER.
God, I'd love to play this! Japanese companies don't seem to realize that the West is full of weeaboos, thus making it a perfect market for "overly Japanese" games.
its the fault of the west and channels like this ...ok these guys seem to like yakuza and they know it has issues selling so why the hell do these guys make 99% of there videos about damn nintendo games...instead of making a god damn DYK Mario PART 67 WHY NOT MAKE A DYN YAKUZA, DYN TALES, DYN KNIGHTS OF AZURE, DYN PERSONA, DYN GRAVITY RUSH...all this channel focuses on is nitnendo games then we wonder why Nintendo puts out shitty consoles and they sell out while games that are worth playing on other platforms are never even freaking known...then they die..
phar0ahad3 Christ, are you going to paste this on every comment??
phar0ahad3 that's because Nintendo was the powerhouse of gaming for almost 30years. they have more to talk about. and as far as the consoles being shitty only 2 consoles were ever negatively received. ever. unlike Microsoft, Sony, and Sega who had at least 2 if not more. and you clearly aren't a UA-cam creator because they are doing this for money and they get paid per click and Nintendo characters are more recognizable than any other video game franchise to exist period
Japan knows about weebs. If they didn't, they never would have localized Yakuza games in the first place. The problem is that A) it's a niche market, and localizing games gets expensive, and B) they know and focus on their own country more than other countries, like how most western studios don't care about what Japan thinks of western games.
Just import it man. There's a full english guide online by khhsubs.
We are now in a post Ghost of Tsushima world.
Hoping Sega is now willing to spend the money on localization. It's almost free money through a digital release.
yeah hopefully that game shows them that there is an audience that is very much open to their culture and video games anyway I'll hold out hope cause they got the remastered collection confirmed along with 6 coming to pc so never say never and segas always looking to make an easy buck
Not to mention we're in a post Like A Dragon world.
@@erixrodriguez8 well, lets hope they check the sales numbers, and not the gaming awards...
There’ve been a few interviews with Sega hinting towards a western release of both ishin and kenzan. And come July we might also get more persona on pc
Well as of now all main titles of Yakuza are almost on all the platforms. It's highly likely that Ishin and Kenzan will get a western release. Mainly like Kiwami style treatment for both of them. Or a remastered style.
Let's not forget SEGA is gonna release Judgment soon on PC and Persona series is slowly coming on other platforms so.
Update: This is getting localised as Like A Dragon Ishin and it comes in February 2023 (i completely lost it)
Sega's handling of this series in the west is so frustrating. Yakuza 0 has pretty well proven there is a strong audience for the games here, and yet they've historically taken ages to localize them if at all, and then let the sales numbers of Dead Souls sway them away from localization even further. Dead Souls didn't sell because it was a bad game, not because we didn't want Yakuza games.
mclouf89 Now that Atlus has merged with Sega, they're finally promoting all the Japanese IP's that are not Sonic.
I really hope they start taking Western demand for this series and others more seriously now. I bought a Japanese copy of Ishin recently, and it's a shame we haven't gotten it localized.
mclouf89 With Kauza Kiwami and Yakuza 6 being localised before Yakuza 0 was even released, it's clear that Sega had revatilised faith in the property. Hopefully, Yakuza Ishin can eventually make it for international audiences.
Iftekhar Ahmed I certainly hope so! 😒
And now Sekiro won game of the year. They can no longer pretend that western people aren't interested in Japanese culture and games.
Damn. I want this game right now.
Who wants to look up guides for every little thing too much hassle
@@gobl_ What do you mean? How will reading guides help?
@@gobl_ Oh, you're saying if I were to buy a Japanese PS4 and the game, the guide would help me understand?

Yakuza 0 is one of the best PLAYSTATION exclusives of *2017*
Tchitchouan Inouane lets just hope sega localize this game from 0 success. since ishin is not restricted by the series "you have to play 1-5 to know the story" restriction. and that's one of many reason of 0 succes.

They need to release this! Yakuza is finally getting a large following in the west.
They aren't going to probably because well it's about 4 years old and the spin offs don't sell well but we have some fans making mods to give it English subs because there's not region lock on ps
I mean 10 months to now. Yakuza 7 hit the ground running. Especially breaking away from normal gameplay. Hopefully NOW Isshin has a better chance of coming out.
And to add Xbox knocking it out the park to western players adding Y0 all the way to Y6, on Gamepass

Whose Here After The September State of Play?
Japanese Devs: "The West will hate this, don't release it there"
*week later*
"Sales were diassapointing, if only we had another market to sell our games too" 🤔🤔
Damion Dixon Yakuza sells very well in Japan. The part about poor sales were the western releases of 1,2,3, and dead souls.
Damion Dixon it only sold bad in the west, it does fine in Japan. "Lets release it in the west" really isn't a solution to "this sells poorly in the west".
Ryu Ga Gotoku does well in Japan (for a low-budget series), but Yakuza does poorly in the West due to many factors - mishandled marketing, misconceptions about the game, cut content, delayed release, overall quirkiness that doesn't appeal to some of the Westerners...
Emperor_Exodus
weeaboos run the series
haha game makers also accommodate our desire to kill other people
thus they disguise "other people" as zombies
Wow... Here we are. February 2023 can't come soon enough.
thankfully this aged like milk
All right, this game not anymore region lock, thanks State of Play for information
I bet Sega Japan felt really dumb when Ghost of Tsushima did very well in the US
Probably not considering Yakuza games actually have Japanese devs and Ghost of Tsushima was just "wow cool samurai" from a Western dev team. It's a cool game, but Ghost of Tsushima and Yakuza Ishin couldn't be more different.
the survey in zero teases Sega being open to the idea of issan being western released.
Also culture ain't an excuse for not bringing it over. Onimusha, goemon, nioh, okami. The list goes on. Sega is just chicken shit.
Onimusha or Nioh aren't nearly as culture- and history-heavy as Ishin is. Besides, Yakuza/RGG games have tons and tons of text in them - translating a normal Yakuza is already hard, let alone a Yakuza game set in a very specific period, with antiquated text and obscure culture references to the boot.
Whining Ylthin True. People don't realise how hard and expensive localisation is with these games.
referral madness Shenmue didn’t make that much money. Actually, didn’t Sega nearly went bankrupt because of how expensive the production and advertising was for Shenmue?
That’s another one out of unlocalized purgatory!
Every time I hear "Shinsengumi" I always think of Gintama.
same
Going through all the yakuza and gintama equivalents makes me laugh.
"Really? That idiot? Alrighty then."
Any time a game doesn’t get realized worldwide is a tragedy. I can’t even imagine how many great stories we could experience that we will never see here in the west
they localized that shit of Dead Souls but not Isshin, what were they expecting? lol
the sad part is in order for artist to make money that have to sell out to the dumb crowd instead of with substance
I honestly want dead souls for ps4 also kenzan and ishin
@@xdialga361445x Well at the very least a PS4 remaster of Dead Souls would have fixed the horrendous frame rate issues...
@@xdialga361445x I don't think Dead Souls would get a remastered treatment tho, like how 3, 4 and 5 got. Like if they had a choice to release between Ishin/Kenzan or Deal Souls remastered, they would definitely do Ishin and Kenzan because of the high demand it has and also the rapid growth of the Yakuza fanbase.
This game is finally getting a western release next year.
Well
3 years later. And boy did sega underestimate Yakuza’s appeal
And finally they understood it now
Our prayers were answered
Boom! It's here baby!!
Anyone else come here after it was announced that Ishin is finally being localized?
We done it boys. We bought enough Yakuza games to warrant an Ishinn REMAKE.
Up until Yakuza 0 I thought Yakuza games were just a generic GTA set in Japan (which would of just fine for me) but after 0 came out I watched a video of it by theRadBrad and I kind of fell in love and I see plenty of people that love the series, it would totally do well in the west given the chance! Who doesn't love the Japanese culture?!
SwaggaDeej That because Sega themselves didn't have any idea how to market the game and GTA was on the rage back then so they market the game as GTA clone in Japan setting while the game doesn't have that element at all to begin with.
It's tragic
SwaggaDeej If you love Yakuza you'll love Shenmue.

+R.J. Makdaddy o wow thats usefull thx😊
+R.J. Makdaddy Too bad you cant mod ps4 games to a point where you just change the language :/
Well i guess western gamers should start supporting the Yakuza series.
4:54 That's the problem with so many Japanese publishers. They don't think we'll understand the history or reasoning. And they don't think we're willing to look into it on our own. So instead of just translating good games, they make crap based on cliches and stereotypes, giving us zombies and Shadow the Hedgehog.
BaneDain Now that's just sad.
If you think about it, that's how most gamers are. That's why Call of Duty is such a successful franchise despite it being a simple-minded shooting game. Most westerners are not used to Japanese culture and are not familiar with it. Therefore, many of them might not be interested in such thing and just buy another CoD games.
Matt Promoting cliches does not promote understanding. Look at From Software. As much as I hate them, a lot of people like their games, proving that western gamers can play difficult games. And now Nioh, a souls-like game, is throwing in Japanese mythology to the mix. That's how you share cultures; by just doing it.
Not knowing the history is part of what makes it so interesting. Its a shame they don't understand that.
the problem here isn't that westerners 'don't want to learn' but that the game itself is written in an antiquated way. While it can be translated, there are a lot of historical references that are not explained in the encyclopedia of the game. So yes, playing Ishin you will learn who Sakamoto Ryoma is and a multitude of other historical Japanese figures from that time, but you will also miss out on a lot of things specifically because you're not Japanese or knowledgeable of the time period.
While there are many fans that are willing to overlook that, and learn about those things to get full enjoyment out of the game, a large quantity of gamers are not. Nioh sold well because of a multitude of factors, most of which revolve around it having modern dialogue with only brief references to historical events. I would wager most people didn't even read the codex in the game about new enemies/characters or places. Nioh sold over 1 million copies in about 4 months world wide, whereas call of duty sold 1.8m in it's first week. Way of the Samurai, a game Ishin reminds a lot of players of sold less than a million. Yeah Nioh was a successful launch, but it's clearly not a stretch for the devs of Ishin to think that they wouldn't sell well enough to warrant the cost of translation.
I hope this ends up coming to the west. Yakuza 3,4, and 5 are being hd remastered. So it would be a great time. I would also like dead souls on PS4.
And would you look at that? It’s now getting a western release! 😊
I BRING NEWS THIS IS GETTING A WESTERN RELESE IN FEBRUARY 2023
Didn't know this existed.
So, you know, thanks for making me sad.
I've always wanted this title. I'm a huge fan of Yakuza, Shenmue, and Way of the Samurai and this is just a perfect blend of epicness. I wish there was a way to get this fan-translated and played on a PS4 ;)
I've read Rurouni Kenshin, I've watched Gintama, I'd love to play anything bakumatsu related.
one think i always loved about the yakuza games is the amount of depth in the game, i love that when you go into the sega arcade you can fucking play in every single game in there lol
Well it’s finally coming
The wait is finally over.
Visiting here, ONE MONTH and 11 DAYS from a US release of Ishin! on PS5!
Japanese publishers and hell, even developers, have always had a bit of a low opinion of western audiences. They're completely ignorant of how much interest there is in the west for Japanese culture :(
Don't japanese people know that westerners are obsessed with Old history of Japanese culture just as much as the Japanese are obsessed with Medieval European Fantasy video game and Anime settings ? Lmao
Your pronunciation of "Yakuza" and "Kazuma" is killing me.
well "gagatoku" is not better either :D
here's hoping it comes out on PS5 in the west, this looks so awesome! Considering now that Yakuza is doing well in the west now!
I'd like to see a Region Locked on Sakura Wars.
KeybladeSmasher YES, THIS!!
I'm a big fan of the series and am... relatively sad that the series has little to no presence outside of Japan.
I happen to really like Sakura Wars V. It's my favorite in the series.
Also they did one on Namco X Capcom, and it's nearly impossible to play that without a guide as well, because it has so much Japanese text.
THIS^. This is one of the game series I'm immensely interested in. I heard 1, 2 are great, and have really good stories.
This is the only series I simply cannot get enough of! I really do hope they can release all the current Japan-only Yakuza games because I can assure them, they would sell damn well because many share my opinion.
REGION LOCK NO MORE ISHIN REMAKE IS REALL!!!
The Yakuza series has been my Shenmue alternative ever since it debut. It's great seeing it finally get the attention it deserves. Hopefully, they get them all released here in some collection form.
Yakuza 0 was my first Yakuza game and I loved it! The setting is so similar to Osaka and Tokyo plus most of the sub-stories girls are *hehehe*
I really do hope they re-master all of the past Yakuza games for the PS4 because I really regret not trying out the series until only recently. :)
REMAKE incoming ... ive never played this so im super excited
fingers crossed that when the rest of the games come to pc this year they bring this to all platforms along side yakuza dead souls

If only they could see the west now. We can't get enough of yakuza now
Glad to see another Region Locked Video
I really love Region Locked, keep it up!
That means a lot to us, thanks for the support!
Hoping that now that all the yakuza games have been rereleased, we will get this next
This aged well lol
What's interesting about this video now in a post yakuza pc world is that I found an article with eruogamer folks at Sega want to bring this to the west now though have stated they don't want to exhaust the market (yakuza 3-6 + like a dragon had yet to come out on steam at the time of this articles listing) with having the games competing with each other.
With that knowledge I'm hopeful we'll see it come over within 2 years given the current track record they've been doing since yakuza 0
If ghost of tsushima didn't succeed this game never came out. But ghost of tsushima sold 9mil copies that kinda change Sega mind to localise ishin remake in western market.
I give my thanks for creating a video on Ishin, to me the Yakuza series and storyline deserves more recognition and appreciation of how uniquely structured the games are. If I never received the PlayStation demo of the Yakuza 1 years ago, I would have not become aware of the series. If I remember correctly, I read information about Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin in a magazine in 2014 and was saddened once I have learned the game may not have a release to North America. I am hopeful that more support for the games will come and encourage more releases internationally.
6:47 😏
Yakuza has been getting a resurgence of popularity in the west due to word of mouth and streamer/let's players taking a liking to Yakuza 0. It's really cool that there are so many more people getting into these games and we are also getting Kiwami and 6. Even a digital copy of Ishin would be so rad.
Also Yakuza 1-4 have been reprinted and are being sold on amazon and VGP (USE PAYPAL ON VGP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD), so now is a great time to get into these games (especially 2, which had skyrocketed into the 100$+ price range a few years ago.) Keep in mind we are getting the remake of 1 with Kiwami, and 3-4 are still cheap used.
Remains exclusive to Japan, NO MORE!
I'm glad there's been a huge surge of people talking about Yakuza lately. It's one of the best series I've played, but sadly it didn't seem to sell well here in the west. I'm glad that at least appears to be changing.
Not region locked though. Import it and play it on your PS4, Only it's in Japanese.
That's the point.
Region locked doesn't mean it impossible to get outside of a region, but it means it wasn't made for certain market areas. In this case you have to import it from Japan, you simply cant just walk to gamestop and buy it there. Keyword is 'import'.
It actually does. Region locking means being unable to play media from a different region, like with DVD players and many game consoles, such as the 3DS. Needing to import the games is irrelevant to whether or not it's region locked and in fact region locking generally only affects you if you import. You can buy and play Yakuza Ishin anywhere in the world, the only thing stopping you would be not knowing Japanese and the assumed knowledge of the period.
MrRigrot With digital importing now, you don't even have to leave your house. You can be playing a newly released game from Japan mere hours after release.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Ishin: looks like we still arent localized....
Like a Dragon Ishin in 2023: kept you waiting huh?
This excuse about people in the west not understanding stuff is bullshit. There are enough fans of Anime, Manga, and Japanese culture over here, that I don't think that's a logical excuse anymore. If anything, it might get people to look us these people and stuff, if they here about them in the game. Furthering our understanding of Japanese history.
Exactly there's even people here that know fluent Japanese watch anime know the culture etc.
well the thing is they hate us they think we are mongrels
@@erixrodriguez8 also going to be honest watching anime doesn't mean you get Japan culture

Localizing video games is wayyyy harder than anime or manga. It's not enough for there to be a market, there needs to be a BIG market or it's a pretty huge risk. There just wasn't a big enough Western fanbase at the time. Thankfully, in 2021, the western Yakuza fanbase has grown quite a damn lot and Sega has taken notice, so a localization of Ishin is more likely now than it was back in the mid 2010s.
I actually learn a bit Japanese only to play Yakuza Kenzan and Isshin, but only enough to complete the game. I cannot understand the story without other's summary post, however these two are really worth my effort. Miyamoto Musashi and Sakamoto Ryoma are the most representative samurais of the two most popular eras for samurai stories setting: Sengaku era and Bakumatsu era. The gameplays are a bit different from the main series, but fun as hell. It reminds me of the good old days when I play Onimusha series. I wonder what they will do next for their future samurai game. Maybe Minamoto no Yoshitsune of the Heian era with the most recent RPG system. No matter what they do, I’m looking forward to it.

Let's gooooo it's coming!

You mean Ryu ga GOtoku.
Somone is still thinking about Lady Gaga's Super Bowl performance. xD
Everytime he tried to say it I fucking lost my shit.

Hiku Oh thank the Gods I'm not the only one that was finding this painful.
Hiku It's not that big of a deal guys. When someone mispronounced stuff in English do you whine? :P
Yup, even when its their native tongue I correct them. In this case if youre going to make something to be educational, you at least want to get the title right. Because they way he says it, its not even same same word. Ryu Ga Gotoku specifically means "Like a Dragon" If you mess that up youre severely messing up the title.
I'm still hoping they bring this over as a treat now that the series is really picking up in the west.
The wait is over.

This game is kind of like a mixture of the Yakuza and Way of the Samurai series' :D
exactly!
Way of the Samurai?
+mechashadow 3 and 4 are on steam. You should really try them. Graphics are kinda dated (if you care about that) but the games are legit.
majima found a time machine and warped them all in Japan in the samurai ages or something like that
@@davidrosensin7985 you must've been from the future
Things that didn't age well:
Personally i like a lot this idea that they had for ishin, like, Imagine having your own game series, each game having different antagonists, helpers, etc and then you create a spin-off and you include all those characters in a single game, Epic, that's why i like Ishin so much.
My primary hope is that SEGA will re-release Yakuza 2-5 on PS4 before 6 drops so that fans and newcomers can go into 6 with a decent grasp of the story (rather than just reading the plots online), but I would LOVE to see this game on sale in the west one day if there's ever a chance that it might be feasible to do so. It reminds me so much of Way of the Samurai but with all the benefits of Yakuza's world structure and gripping storytelling.
A man can dream, though...
Engel1916 They are doing Kiwami. The remake of one. That and 0 explains most of the major characters, their motivations and everything. You'd really only be missing the orphanage and things like that. Maybe they'll have a feature like the notebook that explains things. I doubt they'll do it. We'd have heard something by now. I don't think there's many fans really like that anymore. Sure a few people started with 0 and have a chance to play Kiwami, buy most of the fans have played at least 2 or 3 of the games, if not all. 5 was even free with PS Plus, and that has talk of the orphans and Haruka etc.
Yakuza 6 spoils most of Yakuza 5. It takes place straight after it, and since 4 the games have introduced up to 4 new characters that newcomers will be unfamilliar with.
Engel1916 sega actually reprinted yakuza 1-4 recently. 1 and 2 are 50 and 3 and 4 are 40
We need to get this trending look at the recent success
Drives me crazy that they won't localize this one.
This is a good day ladies and gentlemen.
You'd think, for a show about differences between Japanese and Overseas games, they'd have a narrator that doesn't suck at Japanese pronunciation.
The yakuza games are pure brilliance. I'm going through them all now and the remastered games are a must have
i want to play ishin :(
I've never played a yakuza game but this one looks dope. I've always love historical japanese games
I would never understand why certain Japanese developers have a tendency to limit the knowledge of their history, exclusively to their own country. Many say "Foreigners wouldn't understand the cultural references and or events that took place in the country during the time, because of their ideals/ways of life being different" and to think that way is understandable but wouldn't you want spread knowledge of your history across the land? To help ensure that other nations are familiar with the struggles your country endured to get to the point that you're at now? I'm sure they know much about our place in history as we do with theirs and that should change, we should get to know beyond that and to share wisdom of other perceptions from what we already know.
I'm a newcomer to the Yakuza series and I could go on and on about how fuc**n amazing its narrative and direction plays out, and I'm sure there are many other people in the same boat as me, wishing other gamers would reach out of their close minded shell to at least enjoy the experience like us. Its a damn shame what these developers fail to grasp how interested we are as foreigners to these games and the fantastic tales that they tell, truly and honestly.
It's funny. Do people feel the same way about cowboy westerns? Of course not, so why would a samurai eastern not work for a foreign market?

we'd put the effort into researching the Edo period if we got this :)
Imported both Ishin and Kenzan a couple years back. It took a few tries to get into them since I don't know much Japanese, but once I did, wow. By far my favorites in the series and two of my favorite action games period, the addition of swordplay gives the combat a huge boost. I hope Sega is telling the truth about considering localizing Ishin. Even if not, my dream is that somewhere down the road we get a third game, perhaps with Ichiban in feudal Japan.
After playing yakuza 0 I would take this series over GTA without a doubt, also I'm not much of a GTA fan anyway
You’re right Ishin probably will stay exclusive to Japan
Fuck me, I want this shit so bad. What are we to do??
A petition would be our best bet, similar to how Yakuza 5 was brought to the west after 3 years
Also the survey that comes with every purchase of a RGG game lists Ishin as a potential title for localisation.
This game just looks so good to explore japanese sceney
