Hearing this and the dub in Yakuza: Like a Dragon really shows the importance of voice direction. They got the same voice of Kiryu to return and he sounds waaaaay better in LaD.
As another comment said, this game really shows the importance of voice direction. Most if not all the VAs are extremely talented, they just weren't given enough time or proper direction to make these characters sound better than good at best and comical at worst. Despite all the PS2 Nishiki memes, he's unironically the character with some of the best line delivery in the game, and this scene highlights it. Hell, even the funny "Ten years in the joint..." line was delivered well.
