My one issue with Yakuza 3( I played the remaster) is how goddamn hard it is. Like holy crap the AI blocks incessantly and only strikes when it has an opening to do so meaning I take a lot of damage no matter what I'm fighting. Makes me worry how hard the Amon in that game's gonna be.
@@madaofan7378 Its not the fault of the game its the fault of the remaster that the dodge is too big. You only fight a fuckton enemies at the diet building and even then its not difficult.
Good video, I just wish that since this is a video oriented towards players who have yet to play these three games, there were less spoilers like for example Majima talking about Daigo Dojima as the sixth Tojo chairman.
Yakuza 0 is still my fav opus of the serie and the last one RPG-style oriented is amazing too. Yakuza's serie is Mythic and one of the best videogame saga.
I wish 3 and 4 had the dynamic resolution option as well. 5 has such a good performance on lower end systems it rivals 0 and Kiwami. 3 seems to have been fixed from launch, with the occasional slowdown around Millennium Tower, but 4 chugs along unless you are in a building. Still no Pachinko.

Safe to say I'm obsessed and so happy the series came to Xbox. I do wish Xbox had all of the game physically on xbox though but I get they didnt want to risk it
They could’ve capitalized so well on the Answer X Answer. Just have all the Japanese questions and answers mixed with Western questions and answers. Would’ve been a goated mini game
Loving your comparison videos, very detailed with covering what they removed or added may it be gameplay wise or censorship, you just got yourself a new subscriber.
There is a workaround for the stick sensitivity for pool on pc, you can disable left/right input in steams controller configuration so it only moves straight back regardless how much you sway while moving it. makes this minigame and i think darts? much easier. The same trick can be used for button mashing, there were a space shooter that lowered the standard shooting speed from the original so bumping it up with a rapidfire input option taking it back to it's intended firerate.
Some gameplay bugs turned me off the PC version of 3. I vastly enjoyed playing the PS3 version too since I wasn't really affected by any of the changes. The quickstep bug absolutely FUCKED a lot of earlygame and even regular mid-endgame combat. Being that the quickstep was one of your only tools to counter enemies reliably. I heard some AI was messed up too, but I haven't compared them yet.
This explains why Yakuza 3 seemed so impossibly hard, especially for boss fights. Every guide just says things like "dodge behind the boss and attack", but dodging had terribly short range on PC so you rarely ever got a chance to actually circle behind enemies. Until you unlock Komaki counters and the double/triple triangle combos, the game is almost unplayable.
That sucks. I wanted to play them using game pass, but I’ll just play them on PS5 if that’s the case. I just got into this series and it’s really cool.
that sidestep correction on PC y3 is absolutely horrible, its sometimes better to not dash and try to walk out of the way as dash has its a pause at the end.
As somebody who've been playing the Yakuza games since the very first one, I can't help but feeling a little sad over some of the localization changes in the games, even if they are allegedly more "accurate", and even though I understand wanting consistency between the remasters and the newer games. Changing the name of Sunshine Orphanage kinda hurt the first time I saw it lol, just because of how closely the place has been tied to Kazuma as a character since the very start. And him being called nicknames like Kazzy & Uncle Kaz just always felt right, and to me felt like an example of good localisation, tbh. Anyway, it's not like the changes ruin the games for me, and I'll just see them for what they are: different experiences than the ones I had with the original releases. And reinstating a lot of the cut content for 3 especially does make it a significant improvement in many ways over the PS3 version.
You should maybe do a video on ports of Kiwami, Kiwami 2, & 6. The best thing is that 6 has a 60FPS Boost on Series X & S & Kiwami 2 will most likely get one in thee near future.
i played kiwami 2 and i loved it... then right away i played 3 and i hated the fighting system but i liked the story for 3.then i started yakuza 4 and its... different .i think im a bit burned out and need to give the series a little rest..i do plan on playing and finishing all of them
When it's ported by QLOC, you know something is going to be broken, removed or badly tested because no one in their country is paid enough for that kind of stuff. Wish this was a joke, but it's really not.
I still remember the moment when I saw Ueto Aya appear on the cover of that magazine in Yakuza 3. She was one of my favorite Japanese actresses at the time, so I was very happy to see her there. Too bad it was cut from the remaster.
One change they made in the remasters that I didn't even realize is that they changed the term okama to the term joso in the Japanese version. I'm not read up on Japanese LGBT culture but I assume it's seen as a less offensive term. This change is made both in the text and in the audio, having at least Akiyama's actor redub a line to change the word. This seems to have flown past the localization team however, as they use the term okama in the remaster (replacing the bad T word the PS3 localization originally used) GC Positive's Yakuza 4 review is what pointed it out to me ua-cam.com/video/Pk-CwHV0wVk/v-deo.htmlm17s ua-cam.com/video/TAgIIXtLgzo/v-deo.htmlm58s
Yeah. What you said about that word is correct. It's seen as a derogatory word. On the other hand, "女装/Josou" basically just means "male crossdresser", as in a man dressing up like a woman. Just like "男装/ Dansou" (female crossdresser), it's used in casual conversation without any problems. For example, those 2 words can be used in situations like if a man dresses up as a Disney princess on Halloween, or a girl dresses up as a male student for a highschool play, etc.
@@FinalStigma thanks for the additional context. was the old word already widely considered offensive when 4 came out in 2010 or is it an in hindsight thing?
Hm the PS5 controller must work better for the game because I'm playing through all the games on PS5 and I'm up to 5 with no problem whatsoever when walking around. Pool on the other hand is almost impossible to play.
There is any difference when playing on Series S/X? I played it on SS and it looks that some textures are a little better (or maybe it was my impression?) and there where no loading times
great vid! i finally ordered the collection...so its only 3 & 4 that had some changes in the west, i wonder if there have been any other changes, maybe in the first two games on PS2 or anything like that
5:50 i can understand ps4 having that issue because it came earlier but it is really awkward for the pc version even when it came out as the same time as xbox.
That explains why in the west. Yakuza 3 is less favorable. To me though. Yakuza 3 is still good, but as far as my favorite Yakuza games (main) it's my least favorite.
And after 7 months posting my first comment I'm now almost done with the remaster collection; just grinding through some of the mini games and need to tackle the Ultimate Match mode in 5. Definitely a fun experience overall and looking forward to 6. But man, even knowing about analog stick issue in advance didn't prepare me for how bad the pool minigame would become as a result. How bad is it for me? I'm stuck on the 2nd stage of Puzzle Pool in 5. Anyone who has seen the setup can see that it's an easy "puzzle" to solve, but I just can't make that shot as even being slightly off will cause you to fail the challenge. Heck I've even aimed a bit to the side on purpose in the hopes that I would use the sensitivity issue to actually fix my aim instead, but no luck. It's because of this I was unable to platinum Yakuza 3 and very likely 5 as well, and it's damn shame cause I've managed to complete everything else.
Something to note, unlimited framerate works just fine on 5/0. I can confirm that you can in-fact reach higher than 60FPS. For some reason, Sanada's Machine Gun Kiss performance is one such event, where other karaoke performances appear locked to either 30 or 60. Maybe MGK is just rendered?
Yeah, that forklift chase is BS! You can't do it in no-hit run, he always kicks you up your arse. Man... I wish we had definitive versions...maybe they'll release all 12 yakuza games for ps5 in one pack.
Remastered is an easy choice, but if you wanna save money, you can get 4-5 on Ps now via streaming, and play 3 maybe on ps3 from eBay,but I say it’s better just waiting until the games go on sale.
Ok so that quickstep issue in 3 really makes a lot of why combat was SO hard for me into perspective. Because it’s Blockuza and every fucking harder enemy has an unbreakable block, whipping around to hit them only worked half or the time...
I will definitely be getting the remaster, but at least I appreciate the heads up that I might be killed a lot by a forklift and it's not because I'm bad at playing.
is bowling in yakuza 3 remastered broken? how even possible to get 200+ points for substory to unlock? I can get 200 points in bowling in yakuza 4, but in 3 it is so random
My PS4 controller's right stick is a bit defectuous. It tend to veer right on it's own (inside the controller I think. Completely impossible to see from outside) This makes it so that sometimes the camera will move on it's own. While it can be fixed by moving the stick a bit, the Pool minigames are a nightmare sometimes
Maybe they updated the controls since this video because I'm playing through the series on PS5 and I don't have that sensitivity issue when walking around in 3 4 or 5. Pool on the other hand is terrible.

@@justarock9553 Well from what he said those Sub stories are out of place.

This is a very informative and EXCELLENT analysis of the differences. Bravo for this video. I just started playing Yakuza 3 on PS5 but maybe I'll switch to PC due to the high resolution textures and mods. There is always a steam sale.
I don’t normally comment, but this was one of the most thorough and thoughtful videos I’ve viewed. Thank you.
As someone who just finished kiwami (and about to start kiwami 2) this was really good info. Thanks!
12:09 - Oh, that's why I kept dodging around back to the front of enemies.
Funny enough I started the series with 3, I didn’t even know about the cuts and I absolutely loved that game and it got me hooked on the series.
After playing 0, K1 AND K2 (loved them) i just couldn't get into 3RM is was so boring i uninstalled it and watched all cutscenes on YT now im here contemplating if i should install 4RM. 🤔
Please help if it's anything like 3RM I'll pass.
@@oooo1110 If you passed y3 then I don't know if you'll like the rest of the ps3 titles. That being said, y4 fixed a lot of problems with y3
@@emergence109 I playing it on Xbox. And i did manage to drag myself to continue and enjoyed 4 now on 5 but 3 was 💩
@@oooo1110 I wouldn't call 3 💩, but I really feel like 4 and 5 still hold up as they are, whereas 3 really should have been remade because it's pretty clunky.
@@mjc0961 The problem with 3 for me was the early parts of the story with the kids it was too slow and boring and not engaging enough for me up until you arrive at Kamurocho and yes i agree the controls were clunky and outdated.
With 4 it threw me back into the action no messing around just like 0 K1 and K2 i enjoyed it..
Now playing 5 it does get as bad interms of story but i have yet to see more to make my final judgement.
Will you be making a ninja gaiden video when the master collection releases? I know these videos take so much effort and time but theyre genuinely some of my favorites.

The best way to play them is getting NG Black and NG 2 on Xbox One X or series X. The enhanced resolution is great, and the gameplay has aged extremely well.
Also if you check inside the box of the collection on ps4, you can find majima hidden below the games
Weirdly this easter egg is only found on the US version of the collection. I bought mine in Europe and it doesn't have this.

Seiji Nakazato, I wish you eternal suffering in the deepest corner of hell.
You missed the rape joke they censored in 4, but otherwise you got about everything that I've seen that was changed. Good video.
That falls under the umbrella of updated Localization, but either way that in particular was also modded back in

What was the Joke?
@@mandarin6662 It was in a phone call between Akiyama and Hana, just before meeting with Tanimura. In the original it says:
Hana "Some scary-looking men are fighting right outside"
Akiyama "A fight? What's that got to do with you?
Hana "Are you kidding me!? What if they decide to rape me!?"
Akiyama "Rape? You? Aha ha ha ha"
In the remaster, it says:
Hana "There's a bunch of scary men fighting outside"
Akiyama "What, some little street brawl? What's that got to do with you?
Hana "What if they turn their hands on me next!? I'm a delicate flower, Chief!"
Akiyama "Delicate? You? Aha ha ha ha"
SJWs at it again. Gotta sterilize that western release so all the straight white people don't get offended.
Yeah the combat was actually built solely around the Komaki Parry, since it’s the only way to deal with the blocking BS.
@@Shrapnel-qy4xi That explains why Yakuza 4 was noticeably better in terms of combat.
@@MataNui. Yakuza 3 was extremly easy. Just doge and hit them from behind or tiger drop or parry, them its not that difficut.
@@JS-vj1il Yeah easy to do when you need to fight a fuckton of ennemies at the same time and the dodge that makes you return at the same position
@@madaofan7378 Its not the fault of the game its the fault of the remaster that the dodge is too big. You only fight a fuckton enemies at the diet building and even then its not difficult.
6:35 Oh man. I miss him.
Wow its like you answered exactly what I was wondering as i am a newbie to Yakuza!
I love having Yakuza and all these JRPGs on Steam now. You can typically run console ports on super ultra settings and still get good performance.
I am really proud that i catched a tuna before the patch was released for the pc version lol

i played yakuza 3 first.. and didnt get to y4 till 5 years later and being my first one it's still the most memorable to me and my memories of them all are mixed and muddled with one another since they are all SO similar in SO many ways, it remains my favourite
I've been going through all the Xbox games on gamepass. In the last month and a half I've finished Judgment, 0-4 (kiwami and remastered versions) and almost on part 4 of Yakuza 5 Remastered.
7:115 just played this game on my xbox series x and the 420 thing was definitly in there. I clearly remember that dialog.
Loving your comparison videos, very detailed with covering what they removed or added may it be gameplay wise or censorship, you just got yourself a new subscriber.
0:54 akiyama got them big meaty claws
09:26 I'll finally be able to unlock the trophy for this side-quest !
The PC version has serious issues performance wise, both yakuza 3 and 4 crashed at the end. Some cutscenes, pre rendered ones had slowdown on it.
That sucks. I wanted to play them using game pass, but I’ll just play them on PS5 if that’s the case. I just got into this series and it’s really cool.
yeaah but they will probably get patched soon. and even if they don't, you can just download mods that fix those issues
Check out silent patch for y3 works fine for me
I wish I read that text at 13:18 before I played all of Yakuza 3 with 30 fps cap on.
that sidestep correction on PC y3 is absolutely horrible, its sometimes better to not dash and try to walk out of the way as dash has its a pause at the end.
And reinstating a lot of the cut content for 3 especially does make it a significant improvement in many ways over the PS3 version.
censorship is what offends me the most
Great summary, thank you!
You should maybe do a video on ports of Kiwami, Kiwami 2, & 6. The best thing is that 6 has a 60FPS Boost on Series X & S & Kiwami 2 will most likely get one in thee near future.
4:32 is that actual manga

When it's ported by QLOC, you know something is going to be broken, removed or badly tested because no one in their country is paid enough for that kind of stuff. Wish this was a joke, but it's really not.
Yea, Qloc really is bad
@@jurgenklopp6885 Well, not bad per say, their ports are payable just not the best quality.

June 2022 Hypersensitive Analog for PS4 remained unfixed, as the the quickstep overshoot in Y3 and quite a few one-time glitches I came across in Y5.
Hm the PS5 controller must work better for the game because I'm playing through all the games on PS5 and I'm up to 5 with no problem whatsoever when walking around.
Pool on the other hand is almost impossible to play.
I have the series X and I'm feeling it's at least 1440p there. I've only tried Y5 though
Great video. Thank you for the research Austin CHAN!
There is any difference when playing on Series S/X? I played it on SS and it looks that some textures are a little better (or maybe it was my impression?) and there where no loading times
great vid! i finally ordered the collection...so its only 3 & 4 that had some changes in the west, i wonder if there have been any other changes, maybe in the first two games on PS2 or anything like that
Wow they gave him some beautiful eyes
To this day majima’s jacket being so low res outside of cutscenes when I played on Xbox pissed me off.
I'm still mad they didn't/couldn't add the option for the original insert songs...
5:50 i can understand ps4 having that issue because it came earlier but it is really awkward for the pc version even when it came out as the same time as xbox.
Many things I love about Yakuza:
1. The Major Story
2. The Craziness of Everything Else! 🤣
That explains why in the west. Yakuza 3 is less favorable. To me though. Yakuza 3 is still good, but as far as my favorite Yakuza games (main) it's my least favorite.
i liked it more than 4
Oh yeah in yakuza 4 I forget that one a lot, but rubber bullets!!
worst story and gameplay, yakuza 3 can easily be skipped
Can you cover Valkyria Chronicles 1? Or the Erdrick Trilogy of the Dragon Quest series?
Now I wanna play Valkyria chronicles 1 & 4 now man. I guess I got time hehe.
New rank for Haruka's mood? A better bonus would be one fewer rank for Haruka's mood.
Sounds like emulating the PS3 versions is probably the best way to play them then. Too many oddities and changes in these remasters for me I think.
Original version of 3 is way more butchered. 4 and 5 though, are understandable
I'll make a short review
Yes
You should always play them
Been playing through 3 and I gotta say, it made me go out and buy 4 and 5 ! More Yakuza is better!

You know it’s crazy. They never thought this series could succeed outside Japan. But oh boy it did.
Fyi, in xbox game pass pc ver, u cant change the controller button icon

Has the analog issue been fixed yet for PC? I'm hoping they are considering they're on sale rn
Jesus. I had no idea y3's original release was so cursed. Those really were dark times to be a yakuza fan
My PS4 controller's right stick is a bit defectuous.
It tend to veer right on it's own (inside the controller I think. Completely impossible to see from outside)
This makes it so that sometimes the camera will move on it's own.
While it can be fixed by moving the stick a bit, the Pool minigames are a nightmare sometimes
That means you're facing with infamy joystick drift problem ,it's a problem we face with dualshock controller
in yakuza 5 on ps4 when u are in a menu the fps gets uncapped and overheats the ps4 if u keep it on a menu.
Maybe they updated the controls since this video because I'm playing through the series on PS5 and I don't have that sensitivity issue when walking around in 3 4 or 5. Pool on the other hand is terrible.
When was the 420 Blaze it removed from 4? Cause I saw it in my Xbox version way after this video game out.
