As a rally aficionado and Group B in particular, this is the peak of Engineering. 1.8l engine, supercharged and turbocharged and the Lancia Engineers managed to wring out nearly 500bhp from the thing and a sub 3 second 0-60. Have to say, Jodie, I’m instantly jealous.

Toivonen recorded 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds in this monster in tests in Spain. This was faster then an F1 car at the time and it was not on track but on a gravel road :) Still scares the sh*t of anyone who touches it, the absolute pinnacle of the Group B madness...

I am an avid rally fan but today I can't be bothered to watch WRC. The Regs have become incomprehensible to satisfy the 'Green' agenda and all the cars look the same, especially in their version of urban camouflage. At least in historic rallying, which is equally exiting, the various cars are instantly identifiable. In Group B when the shackles of development were off, each manufacturer came up with a different solution - Audi Sport, Austin Metro 6R4, Ford RS 200, Lancia S4, Peugeot T16 etc.
I had the privilege of seeing this asphalt monster on the Sintra stages, what a thrill! The sound of this engine gave me goosebumps. Henri Toivonen was my favorite driver, I stopped following rallies after the fateful day he left us.
Jodie, your adventures on this channel are so cool. What an awesome piece of Group B history. You drove that Lancia the way it needs to be driven. MEGA!
Jodi you have to pinch yourself, driving this car is one of the things I still got on my bucket list, so special, so much more rarer than a Ferrari this is an absolute weapon of a car. Only a few were made and your driving one, you lucky girl! Fantastic. I think this is Markku Allen's 86 RAC car (?). I worked in a bar in Harrogate opposite the exhibition Hall where scruntineering took place and Markku Alen, Juha Kankkunen, Penti Airikkala, Timo Salonen and Stig Blomquist all came in for a beer! I was soooo star struck. Lucky enough to see this car, and many many others, at Rudding Park and Harewood special stages, never forget it! Jodi does, as always, a fabulous job!!! Thanks...
I was in my mid teens when the gorgeousness of Group B arrived and later in the 80's I would go on to study and become a vehicle technician. I think I was smiling as much as you were watching this with those unmistakable sounds. An era I miss so very much ❤

What a machine; the sound quality is excellent. Just imagine what it would be like with Henri Toivonen driving it, it looks quite tricky to drive, so one can only imagine the ability he must have had! On long rally stages in the dark it must have been exhausting to drive with crowds of people either side.
I remember seeing the Delta S4 in rallycross after the banning of GpB rally cars and the BHP was increased. I don't know how the GrB boys and girl (Mouton) kept them going in the right direction on the loose stuff, let alone tarmac stages. Awesome👍🏻 Thanks for this and more JK❤
I was lucky to see these Group B cars race in period - so awesomely quick that the front of the cars would rise up under each gear change. But imagine doing that speed on gravel - the drivers such as Kankunen and Alen were skilful and brave..
A rare beast on the streets, many years ago they ran a stage of the Lombard RAC Rally through Wigan and I got caught between some of the cars in my old Cortina on the road stage, I remember Ari Vatanen being at the side of me at traffic lights, I'm sure he drove a Delta at some point. That car is insane, I have driven it in sims like Dirt rally 2.0 but I couldn't imagine actually driving that monster in person. 0-95 kph (60mph) in 2.5 seconds on GRAVEL!Car is crazy and I am glad it is being driven a bit instead of staying cooped up in a garage or something.

Love the video as the Delta is my 2nd fave Group B car behind the 6R4, just coz my first car was a rubbish old 1981 Metro that I drove like a rally car lol. I have to say though that car was 100% NOT street legal as there wasn't a number plate anywhere on it. Put it's plates on and THEN it's legal.
The group b era was awesome but oh so bloody dangerous. Trying to master those beasts with crowds almost on the road at some stages must have induced a few code brown moments.
All rally cars have to be street legal, whether they are a production saloon or a Group B car or now a WRC car, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get from stage to stage. One point to note is that in the S4 the straight alloy fuel tank was located under the driver's seat and that was reported as contributing to Toivanen's death that saw the end of Group B. The other contributing factor was the alloy roll cage that actually burnt in the intense fire
Maybe just a few fractions more than that, but still waaaay under 3 secs. The DeltaS4 Boys were reporting faster times on gravel than on tarmac roads🙄🙄

The whining noise it makes is the supercharger at the lower rpm range, that is less at higher rpm because a special clutch system disengages the super charger and the turbo charger takes over at the higher rpm!

What a machine 👌
The whining noise it makes is the supercharger at the lower rpm range, that is less at higher rpm because a special clutch system disengages the super charger and the turbo charger takes over at the higher rpm!
Needs a couple of pins to keep the window sliders open. 😉
