Can you tell the difference between an active or passive wheel speed sensor (physical/wiring/etc.) ? How do you know which one you have on a specific vehicle?
active can have toothed wheels as well...sure way to tell is with a multimeter, if there's 12v on the connector pin, it's an active sensor. Also the resistance of an active sensor is a lot higher, about 8 to 10 MegaOhms...passive sensors are in the kilo ohms

Passive will have either a geared or tooted wheel the the sensor reads off of , active uses a magnetic ring

Passive using a reluctor and active uses a magnet.
