So here are some things to consider: 1) you aren't doing this upside down. At best it's 90 degrees. If you want it upside down, you need to really bend at the waist, not just bend over. The folks who are saying they dry by hanging their head over the side of the bed have good advice 2) using a faucet over a shower really impacts the quality of the curl. Heavy water from a faucet is forcing clumps whereas water from a shower travels and separates the hair in a gentler way. I suggest trying this again in the shower. 3) you don't need to shampoo upside down. The key is in the rinsing. Before you rinse out the conditioner, bend over and comb the hair so that it's all upside down. Use a wide tooth comb to help it get that way, THEN rinse (holding your nose to keep the water out). And make this the last time you rake or comb through your hair if you really want naturally formed clumps. Don't get me wrong, I love my Denman brush, but I will never claim that the curls are my natural pattern because they aren't. 4) the minute you decided to reclump your hair to get 7 or 8, you lost the battle. Because those are obviously not your natural clumps. My suggestion to figure that out is that, once you are rinsing, you shake your head back and forth, and side to side vigorously, to naturally get the separation. 5) how long to plop depends on your hair. I have extremely fine, low density, short hair. I plop for no more than 5 minutes, or my hair loses too much moisture and I get frizz. 6) if it's taking an hour for your hair to dry, you either need to plop longer or use less product, though it could also be that your hair is super thick. If that's the case, use clips along your roots to get lift and a stronger gel.
@@carikabester8335 I think they're saying the clumps they get with the Denman brush aren't their natural clumps, but clumps made by the brush. so they don't wanna say it's their natural curl pattern
@@carikabester8335 because the Denman will still separate your curl pattern. The clumping of our curls are the natural affinity they have based on your pattern. If you pick up a wet hair strand and give it a shake, you will see the strands separate where the natural clump would occur. When we use a Denman brush, we are letting the brush do the separating and basically forcing the strands to curl around each other. This isn't a bad thing! The definition is gorgeous! But it stands that it's not our natural curl pattern. 30 years ago, the curly girl method went like this: you washed your scalp with a light, natural conditioner, then you rinsed your hair for about a minute by letting the water run through your hair BUT you did not touch your hair. When you finished rinsing you shook your head to separate the curls, applied your CG approved products (no silicones!) By skimming your hands over the canopy of your hair. hopefully not more than 2 products. You could push your hair up with the palm of your hands to encourage the curl (like pushing an accordion) but you NEVER brushed, combed, or raked product through. Then you plopped, then air dried or diffused.
I was looking for ANY GIRL with this 2A - 2B type for a vids like this . I also look up for that previous video one day ago and then i see this. Thank god ur here ♥
Yay! Definitely follow my IG incase I figure out a way to make this technique work better 🖤🖤 my hair was semi styled from the day before but it had been in a bun for hours ☺️
I've been applying product upside down for a long time and I've found that it's better to split your hair down the back of your head and have that part come down the sides of your head (like over your ears) instead of flipping it completely over the top of your head(like putting in a high pony). I really hope that made sense. It will make it easier to flip your head back over without disrupting your hair too much. Also, the finger coiling may have undid your hair's natural texture because maybe they curl the opposite direction naturally.
I’d bet money if you followed all the steps *except* doing everything upside, it would work better. I swear doing everything upside down was the biggest definition killer for my hair when I first started the CGM on my 2a/b hair. I am so thankful for the day I woke and said “f*ck this, I’m done killing my back for the sake of curls” and boom, got better definition doing everything right side up anyways
@@they_.dfw.lexi. see upside down made my clumps completely fall apart when I turned back right side up. Because my roots weren’t laying the way they should when I applied my products. And my product distribution was SOOO uneven because all my hair was in a concentrated spot. Leaning to each side while applying and scrunching works best for my waves/curls
I agree, if upside down isn’t getting it done then just lean to the side a little. Also, my hair responds better to silicones, and once I ditched CGM my hair got better. Stays hydrated, curls hold longer. And no scalp itch! Something in the sulfate & paraben free products irritates my skin.
I have done it all CGM all the techniques all the things and have come to the conclusion that what I did 20 years ago when styling my fine wavy hair is the best. Sometimes I think it’s best to just stick to what comes naturally to us, to listen to our own sense of what we know works for us. I use a curling milk or similar flip my head over twist maybe 10 or so sections and diffuse upside down. It never fails to look its best.
I've been doing this method for basically my whole curly journey. If you want any pointers a few things I do which help me: - THICK gel, like u mentioned at the end, I basically use a gel thats closer to a wax but melt it in my hands first - I comb my curl cream in with my fingers and the scrunch with the gel, that way my waves get coated with the gel and I'm not touching my hair more than I need to - I diffuse with the curls coiled in my diffuser with it pressed against my scalp (like plopping but with a diffuser) - I only diffuse about 80% and then wait until my hair naturally dries the other 20 (this cuts down on time and frizz) - you should be using enough gel that your waves feel crunchy after they're dry, then when you scrunch the curls will stay in tact and the excess gel will transfer onto ur hands leaving you with soft curls - the shorter my hair has been, the more defined and less frizzy my waves. it may be that you did everything perfect for your hair but theres too much weight for the curls to stay - I only finger coil clumps that aren't curling with scrunching alone. I find that finger curling can screw up my wave pattern a bit and that they'll fall out faster than if I just scrunch Hope it works out for you your hair is gorgeous!!!!
the products don't look like theyre getting evenly dispersed using this method. Only the outside of the 7 clumps were covered with the gel so it makes sense that it would end up super uneven
@@melindab I am new, and I didn't know (congrats!) and you shouldn't be in pain. The hair didn't really work out. But your skin is FLAWLESS like a porcelain doll!
I do my hair upside down-ish every time. It's the only way I don't end up with a super flat top. Definitely try the shower instead of the faucet. I have thick, coarse low porosity hair. Mixture of textures, mostly large ringlets. I comb through my conditioner with a wide tooth comb, rinse, then put on my leave in, then my curl cream on soaking wet hair and then gel, still on pretty wet hair. I wrap my hair up in a hair towel while I'm still in the shower. I do stand up for a bit and tip my head to the side so I can coat the top of my hair with the cream and gel more evenly. I don't actually plop, my hair hates it. I also can't diffuse-ever - because it frizzes right up. And finger coiling straightens my hair right out. I'm more of a wash and go type of girl and anything that time consuming annoys me anyway! Lol. Try just scrunching with a towel and air drying and see what you get. Edited to add : my hair is so thick that I have to shampoo with my head down as well or I can't get my fingers through to my scalp on the back of my head. It all matts down if I stay upright and the hair underneath doesn't get enough water to wet it through.
I love the volume of styling hair upside down, but I can't stand how tangled it gets. It's just not worth it for me. Instead, I style it sitting straight up. I try to time it to give myself 2 or 3 hours before bed, that way it's still wet when I place it above my head and it (mostly) dries the rest of the way while I sleep, giving me volume, but it doesn't get tangled.
I thought I was the only one who noticed a lot of tangles upside down. I couldn’t afford to loose anymore hair lol. I gave up so I just wear my hair fluffy. I might try CGM again right side up
Mel also used a lightweight spray leave-in. For your hair, I'd forgo a leave-in entirely and go right in with a hard hold gel to stop the waves from dropping Also yeah you don't need to style upside down, will likely get better results if you don't
I'm 32 years old and just learning about curl clumps.... that makes so much sense now. I've always had wavy hair and couldn't figure out how to get the nice clumps to stay together and not frizz. This was helpful even tho it didn't work out like you wanted.
PSA for any curlies/wavys who can't control the frizz... I have struggled with frizz for years and no matter what I did, I couldn't get rid of it or keep the definition in my 2c/3a/3b course, dry hair... I tried using a fine tooth comb to do essentially what the Denman hair brush does and WOW I have ringlets that are totally frizz free. GAME CHANGER. Advanced warning it takes awhile to do but it's so worth it and I can keep my hair down for 5 days when I used to only get 1 down day, 1 pony tail day, and 1 bun day.
@Alyssa Joy, do you comb through upside down or straight up, in the shower or out, and with or without product? You have me very curious because the denman brush doesn't do anything for me.
I don't know why, but Mel's hover diffuse method does not work for me. I've found I have to pixie diffuse the ends first and do the roots later. Oh and I flip my hair right side up after I diffuse the length and style my bangs. Of course I am still struggling. I have a huge cowlick in the back so I have to use a hairpick on my scalp to keep that from making me look like I have a bald spot on my head. I also stupidly cut my hair into a ton of layers and it looked wavy, but stringy in the front and awesome in the back. I cut 4 inches off 2 nights ago and I might have to cut more. Wavy hair is so freakin fickle! Oh and congratulations on the baby. I work with postpartum moms so seeing everyone's babies is the part of the job I love.
Try it when you’re not pregnant. (And also when all the hormones are out of your body postpartum.) Pregnancy hormones affect the structure of your hair molecules and amount of oils, as well as their bio-chemical make-up.
Hormones do not go away. Yes, pregnancy causes an imbalance of hormones; though, they always will exist, in One’s body. Perhaps you meant once the body’s hormones are back into balance, postpartum? Pregnancy is not going to have an impact on the molecular structure of One’s already existing hair - this hair is dead; nothing will affect it, once it grows out of the scalp, other than whatever One chooses to do with it. Hormones (as well as medication or mal-nutrition) will will only affect new hair growth. Also, from my understanding, hormones are not going to affect the bio-chemical make-up of sebum - our natural hair/skin oil. HOWEVER. The “pregnancy glow” is a result of One’s sebaceous glands producing excess sebum - as a result of increased androgen and progesterone - which, can lead to a woman’s hair/skin being excessively oily, during pregnancy. She washed her hair, with shampoo, prior to doing all of this - the oils shouldn’t play a huge roll, in the outcome. Personally, as a professional hairstylist, myself? I, often, find these methods are not always effective in people - because there is, simply, too much product. And I don’t mean, she applied too much product. Though, that there is too many products being used - which, weighs down the natural wave/curl pattern, on more fine textured hair. I am not stating this is, necessarily, the case here. However, seeing her hair, prior to doing this method - her hair definitely appeared more soft, shiny, and curly. The end result? Well, perhaps her hair didn’t look as shiny, and a bit dull and frizzy - because she had just diffused it, and her hair cuticles were still raised, from the heat; which, has such an affect (this is what the cool setting is for - as well as to set the disulphide bonds, so hair keeps it’s intended shape - as these bonds are broken, during heat styling, and reset, when cooled).
@@XOChristianaNicole pregnancy hormones definitely changes your hair. half of my hair is now curly and wavy and the rest is straight. i've had kids and was raised by a beautician.
When my hair is long, I support the ends and push them up toward my scalp with my free hand. This helps to keep the curls from stretching out until they’re dry and set. You can pretty much do this in any position you prefer when drying your hair.
This was basically my entire routine before I cut all my hair off except I would hover diffuse on my bed like spisha used to or I'd use my drying bonnet also upside down by laying with my head off the edge of my bed and taking a nap. lol Now my hair is just at my shoulders in more of a wolf cut so I just brush it with a wet brush upside down and flip it. Not as curly but my volume is wonderful and I'm out the door in 10 minutes!
@@beckymeier581 It was just a $15 one on amazon.. IDR the brand but they're all pretty much the same. It connects to your blow dryer and dries your hair without disrupting your curl pattern.
I want to say that I think a big reason this didn’t go the way you want is because when you were finger curling you did all the clumps the same way. You want to pay attention to your curl pattern in each clump, I noticed you finger curled some of the clumps the opposite way than they were naturally falling. Also wavy hair is so weighed down by creams and heavy conditioners, maybe rinse the conditioner a little bit more!
Yes I agree, my hair clumps curl in different directions all over my head, eg. the clumps at the front curl towards my face and the clumps at the sides curl away from my face. If you curl the hair in the wrong direction it takes the curl out of it. Hope this helps xx
This was helpful because I’ve tried variations of this method (upside down washing and styling and diffusing, as well as plopping in general) and my hair always looks like a mess no matter what lol. Definitely encouraging in my opinion🤣 thanks girl! Great video
I tried to do the plump method on my last wash day. I wasn't that impressed. I have type 2A & 2b waves and curls with the odd 2C popping up. My hair was lovely and soft and shiny with plenty of volume but it also went really frizzy and the first thing my hubby commented on was that I looked like Hagrid !
Even though it didn't turn out the way you wanted, I really love the fluffy look. I'm more of a messy-look girl, but I'm always trying to shape and encourage my curls. Awesome video!
hey we have veeery very similar hair and im so into this method. i just apply every product upside down using the roping method and use more gel with better hold. i get the best results by hover diffusing my hair upside down and not moving it at all. when its about 80% dry i apply gel again wherever i feel like i need it and diffuse as i would normally do till my hair is dry. i would love to see if this works for you!
9:40 stop there, you need a spray gel my lady. Cantus Come Back Curl spray gel mixed with plain water in a spray bottle, spray your hair and let that air dry 😍 this is how I do my curls😘
I think that hoover diffusing is for curlier hair. I have fine 2c-3a and when my hair is wet is less curly because is too heavy. I hoover diffuse only a little to the roots at the beginning and then I cup diffuse to enhance the curl and works really well. It also works smasters technique on damp hair at the middle of the diffusing.
Came here expecting to learn a new method for my curls but I already do this to my hair 😂 this is great for people with low porosity hair as you're giving your hair intense moisture when you apply product directly to the wet clumps and scrunching the product in. Definitely recommend.
I have very similar wave like you. I find that any method that includes twisting the hair actually goes against my natural wave in some sections. Then when I dry I get the result you did. So, I just use a leave in with a gel and and scrunch. Encouraging my natural wave. Turns out every time.
I've tryed this method before and I noticed a big improvement when I divided the hair in 2 parts (up and down) while I was styling It! love from Italy❤️
So, this might be personal to me, but I’ve always felt like your hair is similar to mine. As far as general method and technique, this is how I do my hair. However, my hair is extremely prone to being over-moisturized, so I never use leave-in and all of my products except my conditioner contain protein. If I only use moisturizing products, this is exactly what happens to my hair; it looks great when it comes out of the plop, but all of the waves and curls stretch and fall out as it dries. Second day hair is usually even worse and basically looks like I have stuck straight hair. So maybe protein will help you too.
i tried this a few times and i got better results. my hair is kinda similar to yours so i decided to state what i did :D so the water i used was much lower than in the video. it actually helped a little to make the curls more curly. another thing is i didnt twist my curls like that. instead of separating it into big clumps, i just kinda had my hair naturally separated before individually twisting them. I didn't really twist them that much tbh because I felt like it was pulling and straightening the hair, but that might just be because of me. and the last thing that i did was not diffusing. i think air drying gives so much better results, especially since my hair isnt super coily, so it just looks frizzy and not really put together if that makes since. but yea that's basically what i did, maybe if u try it again it'll turn out better?
I love LUS products, I have curly wavy hair that's super thick, I was with LUS shampoo and conditioner, rinse, wait until my hair is not completely soaked, and then scrunch with the styling gel stuff. Works great, it's the only stuff that's given me actual curls, I don't own a hair dryer so it's always air dried overnight, and it works better that way cuz the curls aren't weighed down. If I really want some curls I'll finger curl it but I'm lazy and that's alot of work
I have sort of wavy hair..BUT I got beautiful curls by wrapping my damp hair around knee socks, pinning it and letting it naturally dry overnight. If you used a few socks with gel in your hair before sleeping it would look beautiful! Good luck 💕😊
Omg I tried it this morning (I have frizzy hair, I know I might have wavy hair but for me is easier to straighten them or just brush them). I did a coconut mask before the shower and then I used my regular shampoo (I have oily hair) and a conditioner. I don't have anything else so I thought my curls would be frizzy or flat hair on top of my head and puffy at the end. I was wrong! My hair are really soft and the frizz is not a lot, I obv don't have curls but the waves are really nice and not messy. I also have curtain bangs so the top of my head is a bit messy (if I part my hair in the middle it's not great). If you have time try it, maybe it will last a day (I don't know how I can sleep tonight not to ruin the waves)
This looks very intriguing! I saw mels video too. But my hair barely hits the tops of my shoulders right now. I feel like the entire back of my head would just be straight 🤦♀️
Interesting point! Maybe you could still try the clumping and the finger curling part and then diffuse but just not flip your hair totally upside down. Come to think of it... I might try it this way next time 👀
This is one of the best videos out there I like how you went step bye step through what to do and explained it all really well thankyou I can’t wait to try this x
I just came across this video and thank you for making this! I have a similar hair type and even though I’ve been doing the CGM for over a year now, I’m still unsure how to get perfect curls
I agree with some other commenters that for your hair hover diffusing may not be the best choice. When I do that my ends are stretched out and frizzy because they flash dry. Try pixie diffusing after going over your roots for 5-10 minutes and see if that helps.
Don't beat yourself up! Keep at it (repairing the strands takes time and good product) look for products that aren't too thick though. It's a find balance you have to find. Because yes they will weigh your strands down! There's good hair days and bad! I suggest layers in your hair as well. It will cut down the thickness which is why it took so long for your hair to dry. The shorter layers will actually give you the curls you are looking for. The longer the hair, the more weight is on your strands! You'll see big volume with top layers! It's taken me years to find something that works for me. I'm mixed so I have very thick curly hair. And nobody knew that taking care of curly hair and straighter hair are definitely not the same. It cause me to hate my hair texture because it was nothing but a big frizzy mess. I actually have been washing my hair upside down like that for many years. Since we can only wash out hair about once a week or so, my washing routine will not all be together (hair and body). I'm not sure if this does anything to my hair texture or not, I was just lazy and didn't want to fully step in the shower lmao. I did find that using a 100% cotton t shirt as a towel for my hair did amazinggggg things! So do the pineapple method with that! Just make sure the roots are a little dry because then you can create mildew on the scalp
I watched your video and then hers and decided to give it a try. I got nice clumps when wet and then when I diffused my hair had zero definition and was massive, fluffy and out of control! A no for me but with a try.
I have 2A 2B hair with a lot of length. I usually hammock diffuse until the gel hardens enough to set the curl, then I pixie diffuse. Otherwise the weight of my hair from all the length will pull itself straight. Wavy Curly Allie uses a similar technique to this but for longer hair. That’s where I got the hammock diffusing from.
@@shirleyalessi308 pixie diffusing definitely works. I think you actually get more airflow onto your hair that way. Hammock diffusing is where you turn the diffuser on high and set it up on a counter or something. Then when you take your “plop” off you hold the t-shirt or towel under your hair so that your curls are resting gently on the open towel. Then hold your hair in the towel in front of the dryer until it starts to set. This keeps the weight of your hair from pulling itself straight. I’ll see if I can find Allie’s video to link. I sometimes even tuck one end of my t-shirt into my top and use a weight to hold the other end on the counter. That way I can pick the hair dryer up and work with my hair. That part is a little odd, but it works for me.
Thank you so much. I really thought the pixie method was wasting time but I'll try what you suggested next week. First time ever I heard of hammock, which really makes sense since my hair is heavy. Appreciate the advice.
Ha! I tried this & same exact thing happened!! Trying to keep bigger clumps just ends up pulling curls straight & keeping it wet so long. And I’m a 2b-3a so it’s not just you I tried a Aussie I start freeze the second time & it just still didn’t work for me. My hair texture is dif than some tho so maybe it’ll work for you
I love Mel but also found hovering does not give me good curls. I use the diffuser to spring my curls up while head is upside down first and then always movIng in different directions. I also found mousse to work way better than gel. And I put lotion product in before plopping and mousse right before diffusing. 😁
Hii Melinda! I was wondering if I could get some advice on my wavy hair. So ever since I was little my hair has been very curly and then as I began to grow up my hair lost its tight curl and became wavy. Now my hair is very confusing. When I let my hair air dry it will most likely dry pretty straight with a little kink Even if I brush it when it is wet and leave it, it dries completely straight. But when I scrunch it and add product when its wet it goes quite wavy and sometimes some spirals. Another huge thing that's confusing me is that my hair doesn't stay wavy for a long time and falls flat and pretty straight if I don't keep refreshing. Also if I brush my hair when its wavy, it goes poofy for a second, but then it flattens down and goes completely straight. So this is making me wonder whether or not my hair is actually wavy, or if it is and my hair just doesn't hold curl well? I'm really confused and I thought maybe you could help. If not that's okay but thank you if you read this
Sounds like my wavy hair! Except I didn't have curly hair as a child. Sounds like you're just need to keep working at it, style when it's wet & use whatever technique seems to work best for your hair to apply the products. For me, the more I do & harder I try my hair turns out horrible, I have to keep it simple & not over think it. From my experience, my waves got better over time after adapting some of the curly girl method, once my hair had a good moosture/protein balance it was great! But you have to work to keep that balance as well. Keep at it & you might see more tighter curls come back!
Hi! Your hair is definitely wavy. Girls with straight hair can scrunch their hair with product all day and won’t get spirals and maybe not even waves. Don’t brush wavy hair it will always get poofy and straighten out your waves. If your hair isn’t holding it’s wave/ curl once you style it you might need a higher hold gel (I love the umberto giannini I mentioned at the end of this video) or you might need more protein in your hair. I’d recommend the w2w naturals leave in from their gorgeous collection or the curl talk cream from not your mothers. If your hair is too soft the waves will fall out. Hope this helps🖤
As a person with a lot of very curly hair, I felt so bad that some people want to go to such lengths to achieve curly hair. Makes me extremely grateful for my curls Though, I truly believe all hair types are beautiful and I love hers
Well with those hairtypes you are either going to have frizzy "straight" hair or somewhat wavy hair. Gotta choose your battles! I am lazy so I opt for the frizzy straight hair that gets wavy in humidity or wet weather. Some want to go the extra mile for better results 🙈
Be very grateful 😂😭 those of us who managed to get the in between hair from a parent with pin straight hair and a parent with loose ringlets are constantly struggling lmao when I use cgm the bottom layer is always gorgeous ringlets but the top layer looks like it was baked in the Arizona sun. But when I straighten it, by the end of the day the bottom layer has managed to come back to life but in a “the living dead” kinda way, not in the “Jesus back from the grave” kinda way 🥲
It's not really about trying to achieve a different texture, but enhancing and defining your natural texture. Many ppl with wavy hair just get taught to treat it like it's straight which usually just leaves their hair looking poofy and frizzy and dry. I think those different methods are more about seeing what works for people and seeing what the "true" texture is once you're no longer constantly brushing your hair out into a big poofy mess. Edit: unfortunately, a lot of the methods for 3a and up can also be too heavy for wavies and that's why it's good to have ppl with similar textures try them. But trust that a lot of ladies with 3a and up still do A LOT in order to define their hair the way they want!
Try diffusing by putting your head upside down and cupping your hair with the diffuser, which should be at low heat, and moving it towards your head. This 'scrunches' your hair while drying it at the same time. I used to have a great hairdresser who spent ages doing this to my hair to bring out the curls. Unfortunately, he moved.
i would use a curl defining cream underneath gel I recommend the naughty curl cream. unless that would weigh ur hair down but I would try it....that pink gel is the best I've got that gel !! I always use it on top of naughty curl cream. if it's too thick for u just mix with water. u can get on Amazon for like under a fiver. so cheap...
I think doing anything upside down when you have looser waves (I'm 2b/c) just doesn't work, as soon as you flip your head back over again, the top part is so weird and flat because it's just been stuck against your head instead of sitting the direction it will be when it's dry. I never get a good result when i do anything upside down. Maybe it works if you have shorter hair?
I suggest looking up Type of Beautiful’s video on plump method. It’s her method and while I love Mell, she didn’t follow it. It is a pixie diffuse, Mell just only believes in her own method of diffusing (hover). You also don’t break the clumps up while diffusing. It’s called plump because those giant clumps make plump curls- but if you keep breaking them up before they dry it can’t work. I find it to be so easy precisely because twisting and scrunching 10 big pieces is so much faster than trying to do anything in several tiny spots on my head.
I'm pretty sure washing and conditioning your hair upside down is total bs. Once you rinse your hair your hair then you can turn over. I refuse to wear my hair curly bc of bs advice like that. Ppl with back problems can't do shit like that.
Get ISO Bounci Creme and use it. Do not use all those thick conditioners on your hair. Oils always sleek, they do not curl. I can take my hair from a 2a to a 3b using ISO Bounci Creme. My hair is longer than yours. With ISO, you use it when you get out of the shower and apply it from root to end. You do not need much. Then finger curl or scrunch for several minutes all over. Diffuse if you want, but I think this has a tendency to make my hair frizzy. I usually just air dry after that point.
It seems like that is what my hair does no matter what when I try to style it. For some reason day 2 is always better for me. Then again I have really long hair so I'm sure just the weight of it stretches my "curls" out. I'm getting it cut Monday and plan to cut about 8 or so inches off 😱 praying I have better luck wearing my hair down
Loved it. Nice try keep going with it. It’s pretty much the Curly Girl Method. Oil is not but otherwise same. Please please please try it again letting it air dry or low heat low power diffuse. Higher power = frizz according to CGM and makes sense as it’s just blowing your hair all about. Please do it again and post another vid you were getting unreal results!!!!
This is just too much for me. Styling with a denman brush is perfect for my 2c/3a hair. I’m so glad I found what works for me, but I will keep watching people try other methods for fun!
Your results are like my hair when I just wash and brush my hair and let it air dry without doing anything else cuz I'm lazy lmfao ... I feel like continuing to twist the clumps until dry would have helped. Or plopping longer. Diffusing seemed to kind of get rid of all definition.
I just tried this today also and had similar results but im going to change a few things like maybe only twirl when the gel is in. I airdryed also cos im lazy and were in lockdown so i cant go anywhere 🤣
I've never used a diffuser before, what exactly does it do? I have semi wavey hair and alot of frizz, but my hair is really thin. Does anyone know of a good thickening serum or one to help my hair curl?
When you blowdry your hair without a diffuser the focused air blast destroys your curl. If your hair air dries quickly then hover diffusing isn't really necessary. However, the other method of diffusing (scrunching the curls to your head using the diffuser and holding) helps to define wavy hair into prettier curls.
Type of Beautiful has a slightly modified plump video that has techniques that look like they would work better to keep curl clumps- when she smooshes the gel in, she does it by gentle scrunching, she pixie diffuses to keep the curl clumps from pulling down, and she starts flipping down only at the step of combing thru the conditioner.
Normally after shower I wet brush and air dry, but my back of head becomes spiral curls naturally but my front hair stays straight. No matter what I do. I can brush and brush and it drys like this. Can anyone explain? Lol
To whoever is reading this- God loves you so so much,He wants to make everything okay with you❤️He knows your pain, He knows how you feel, He loves you so much and for that reason He sent Jesus (the worlds savior😊) to die so that we could all be made right with God if we asked for forgiveness and to start again through Him (because the thing that separates us from God is sin, which everyone of us has done, BUT God loved the world so much that He sent His Son to take the punishment for us & so that through Him we would be forgiven and have eternal life)💕He loves us so much that if we ask for forgiveness and a new start He will give it to us!His love is unconditional, His love is never ending, and His love is for you! He loves you just as much as anybody else! One of His promises is that He will never leave us, He is always going to stay by our side and in fact He always goes before us to work everything out!💕You matter so so much to Him, You are enough for Him, You are never to far away from Him- He loves you always! And the cool thing is that He wants a relationship with you! He wants a relationship with every single person, and He wants to make us all okay again!💕💕💕
I think your hair might be over moisturized. You have a hydrating shampoo and put a leave in conditioner and gel and oil. It is a lot. I would recommend a stronger more cleansing shampoo than a hydrating one.
So here are some things to consider:
1) you aren't doing this upside down. At best it's 90 degrees. If you want it upside down, you need to really bend at the waist, not just bend over. The folks who are saying they dry by hanging their head over the side of the bed have good advice
2) using a faucet over a shower really impacts the quality of the curl.
If that's the case, use clips along your roots to get lift and a stronger gel.
excellent advise
Can you please elaborate on your last sentence at point 3 ? I have no idea what you mean . i also bought a denman brush .
Then you plopped, then air dried or diffused.
my hair is low porosity it takes 3 hrs to dry and it’s not my fault i do everything right u have no idea what ur talking about you amateur.
I was looking for ANY GIRL with this 2A - 2B type for a vids like this . I also look up for that previous video one day ago and then i see this. Thank god ur here ♥
and in the first beginning did u styled your hair before ? cuz it's look extremely gorgeous big wavy. OMG
Yay! Definitely follow my IG incase I figure out a way to make this technique work better 🖤🖤 my hair was semi styled from the day before but it had been in a bun for hours ☺️
@@melindab you are adorable 🥰
I've been applying product upside down for a long time and I've found that it's better to split your hair down the back of your head and have that part come down the sides of your head (like over your ears) instead of flipping it completely over the top of your head(like putting in a high pony). I really hope that made sense. It will make it easier to flip your head back over without disrupting your hair too much. Also, the finger coiling may have undid your hair's natural texture because maybe they curl the opposite direction naturally.
I was thinking the same thing.
I’d bet money if you followed all the steps *except* doing everything upside, it would work better. I swear doing everything upside down was the biggest definition killer for my hair when I first started the CGM on my 2a/b hair. I am so thankful for the day I woke and said “f*ck this, I’m done killing my back for the sake of curls” and boom, got better definition doing everything right side up anyways
ugh you’re lucky!! I did it upside down once and my hair looked so good but I just couldn’t deal with the back pain lol. haven’t done it since
idk everything is better upside down for me but that might just be me
@@they_.dfw.lexi. see upside down made my clumps completely fall apart when I turned back right side up.
I agree. I tried doing upside down but everytime I flip and put it on my back. I get more frizz and my hair don't look good
I have done it all CGM all the techniques all the things and have come to the conclusion that what I did 20 years ago when styling my fine wavy hair is the best.
If you want any pointers a few things I do which help me:
- THICK gel, like u mentioned at the end, I basically use a gel thats closer to a wax but melt it in my hands first
- I comb my curl cream in with my fingers and the scrunch with the gel, that way my waves get coated with the gel and I'm not touching my hair more than I need to
- I diffuse with the curls coiled in my diffuser with it pressed against my scalp (like plopping but with a diffuser)
- I only diffuse about 80% and then wait until my hair naturally dries the other 20 (this cuts down on time and frizz)
- you should be using enough gel that your waves feel crunchy after they're dry, then when you scrunch the curls will stay in tact and the excess gel will transfer onto ur hands leaving you with soft curls
- the shorter my hair has been, the more defined and less frizzy my waves. it may be that you did everything perfect for your hair but theres too much weight for the curls to stay
- I only finger coil clumps that aren't curling with scrunching alone. I find that finger curling can screw up my wave pattern a bit and that they'll fall out faster than if I just scrunch
Hope it works out for you your hair is gorgeous!!!!
Those are great tips. I do some of the same things.
the products don't look like theyre getting evenly dispersed using this method. Only the outside of the 7 clumps were covered with the gel so it makes sense that it would end up super uneven
“If you’re new to my channel, I’m pregnant” 😂
It’s such a nice excuse so I don’t just seem super out of shape 😂 which I am that too haha but let’s just blame the pregnancy
Thanks so much for this video! i’ve never seen a plop like this and i have seen EVERY curly hair video..From EVERYBODY!!😂Congrats on your pregnancy!!🥰
@@melindab I gotta get pregnant so I can use that excuse 🤔😂
To me it just sounds like a lot of effort lol. I’m fine with my loose type 1 waves. 😂
I thought I was the only one who noticed a lot of tangles upside down. I couldn’t afford to loose anymore hair lol. I gave up so I just wear my hair fluffy. I might try CGM again right side up
Mel also used a lightweight spray leave-in. For your hair, I'd forgo a leave-in entirely and go right in with a hard hold gel to stop the waves from dropping
Also yeah you don't need to style upside down, will likely get better results if you don't
Omg please do a round 2 video!! I would love to see how your changes in the routine will affect your results!
(And also when all the hormones are out of your body postpartum.)
Pregnancy hormones affect the structure of your hair molecules and amount of oils, as well as their bio-chemical make-up.
Well, perhaps her hair didn’t look as shiny, and a bit dull and frizzy - because she had just diffused it, and her hair cuticles were still raised, from the heat; which, has such an affect (this is what the cool setting is for - as well as to set the disulphide bonds, so hair keeps it’s intended shape - as these bonds are broken,
during heat styling, and reset, when cooled).
What drying bonnet did you use?
A thumb?!? You’re freaking gorgeous with and without makeup!!!
😂 thank you!!🥰🥰
Yep I almost spit out my drink when you said A Thumb!! Girl you are stunning!!!
This was helpful because I’ve tried variations of this method (upside down washing and styling and diffusing, as well as plopping in general) and my hair always looks like a mess no matter what lol. Definitely encouraging in my opinion🤣 thanks girl! Great video
Haha glad we’re not alone!
@@melindab yes!!🥺
I tried to do the plump method on my last wash day. I wasn't that impressed. I have type 2A & 2b waves and curls with the odd 2C popping up. My hair was lovely and soft and shiny with plenty of volume but it also went really frizzy and the first thing my hubby commented on was that I looked like Hagrid !
Even though it didn't turn out the way you wanted, I really love the fluffy look. I'm more of a messy-look girl, but I'm always trying to shape and encourage my curls. Awesome video!
Curly/wavy textured hair must be 100% dry before breaking apart curls or it will be frizzy
LOVE Manes by Mel! She knows her stuff!
Interesting to see some new techniques to play with!
Yeah she’s so smart!
hey
we have veeery very similar hair and im so into this method. i just apply every product upside down using the roping method and use more gel with better hold. i get the best results by hover diffusing my hair upside down and not moving it at all. when its about 80% dry i apply gel again wherever i feel like i need it and diffuse as i would normally do till my hair is dry. i would love to see if this works for you!
how long does it take you to dry it? I have back problems, and she said it her and HOUR and I for sure cant do that!
@@Ariplaygames my hair dries very quick. i dont really know how much it takes to get it 80% dry but i diffuse as usual for a minute each curl clump
Turns out every time.
a detachable showerhead may be a nice add, shower "gentleness" over faucet speed and you can end up sitting in a way that is comfortable for you.
I've tryed this method before and I noticed a big improvement when I divided the hair in 2 parts (up and down) while I was styling It! love from Italy❤️
I’m excited to try this.I also have 2a 2b wavy hair. I get loose spiral curls on certain parts of my hair. But the other parts are just wavy.
So maybe protein will help you too.
maybe clarifying or mud wash would help her as well. It always does for me - Tracy
i tried this a few times and i got better results. my hair is kinda similar to yours so i decided to state what i did :D
so the water i used was much lower than in the video. it actually helped a little to make the curls more curly.
another thing is i didnt twist my curls like that. instead of separating it into big clumps, i just kinda had my hair naturally separated before individually twisting them.
I like how we have our own little secret language “use prayer hands” “plop for 20 mins” and im sure there’s more lol
Squish to condish is my fav 😝😂
Scrunch the crunch
Sleeping with wet hair is not that great of an idea
Your personality is so fun and down to earth - really refreshing! So glad to have found someone with similar hair stats, love your channel!
Aw thank you!🖤
You don't need a make up, your face is so beautiful! And hair was really gorgeous before washing ! :)
My hair does the same thing whenever I plop. Please retry this and film it so we can see!!
Wow there's so many factors that go into wavy hair
What's hammock diffusing and do you really think pixie diffusing works and what is the general thought behind it, please???

I have a similar texture but it’s even flatter than yours. I recommend trying out using a strainer diffuse, then also making a little smaller clumps
Strainer??
Ha! I tried this & same exact thing happened!! Trying to keep bigger clumps just ends up pulling curls straight & keeping it wet so long.
And I’m a 2b-3a so it’s not just you
I tried a Aussie I start freeze the second time & it just still didn’t work for me.
We have the same curl pattern and I found that diffusing ruins my curl pattern. Maybe retry with air dry 🤷🏻♀️
This is how my hair would be too. It always gets fluffy!!
I am so happy I found you! I've been looking far and wide for someone with my hair type trying out these techniques 🥰💖
i haven't seen anyone just hover the diffuser. i only saw it used normally, since that way it keeps the hair curled in the diffuser head.
@@melindab hi! i have this same problem and my hair is really soft so my curls always end up falling, so you have any tips to make it less soft lol?
As a person with a lot of very curly hair, I felt so bad that some people want to go to such lengths to achieve curly hair.
Makes me extremely grateful for my curls
Though, I truly believe all hair types are beautiful and I love hers
Love the word janky. Maybe too many products? Best spirals made with twist curls which is perfect for when you have a baby...they grab hair!
I always use it on top of naughty curl cream. if it's too thick for u just mix with water. u can get on Amazon for like under a fiver. so cheap...
I love the hair color and your hair looks nice and healthy and shiny.
It is you only have to bend over for the drying part and that's just to get volume. Comb hair bend over and dry. Less hassle on your back
I agreee the jelly is so good for softer curly hair 💯 recommend
I know this is a hair video, but I just have to say you have divine skin, a gorgeous complexion.
I agree. She has a nice skin
my hair texture is insane 🤦🏼♀️ i get crazy tight ringlet curls ONLY on the back of my head. loose waves everywhere else
Your hair is GORGEOUS
Thank you 🥺🥺 I felt like it looked like a turd this whole video lol so that’s really sweet🖤🖤
@@melindab No no no it's beautiful!
It seems like that is what my hair does no matter what when I try to style it. For some reason day 2 is always better for me. Then again I have really long hair so I'm sure just the weight of it stretches my "curls" out. I'm getting it cut Monday and plan to cut about 8 or so inches off 😱 praying I have better luck wearing my hair down
good luck! 💕
@@draculena thank you!
Honestly, your hair is gorgeous whether this worked or not haha:)
Aww thank you 🥲
I absolutely love Mel but I've tried hover diffusing and my hair comes out a mess.
Yeah def don’t diffuse until fully dry, you want to leave it semi damp
Please help me understand why you are using the diffuser like that?
Loved it. Nice try keep going with it. It’s pretty much the Curly Girl
Method. Oil is not but otherwise same. Please please please try it again letting it air dry or low heat low power diffuse. Higher power = frizz according to CGM and makes sense as it’s just blowing your hair all about. Please do it again and post another vid you were getting unreal results!!!!
Ur hair looks so soft and u really have no fall out?
This is just too much for me. Styling with a denman brush is perfect for my 2c/3a hair. I’m so glad I found what works for me, but I will keep watching people try other methods for fun!
Why does every single curly method involve being a dripping wet mess? The last video involved having to be standing IN the bathtub!
i have very short hair it still curls but could i do this with my hair?? it’s in layers and shorter in the front
I just found you and I'm pregnant too and I got so tired doing my hair!
Videos like this really help me to appreciate my texture. Thank you Lord. 🏆
You have such gorgeous skin 💕
You're absolutely beautiful without makeup!
I will definitely check out her video! Thank you!!
I think you needed to scrunch with the diffuser after you dried it half way.
This video was so fun and you’re so cute! Happy I found you :)
What is 2a2b hair sizing what?! Someone explain please!
My hair look exactly like that when i style it 😆 maybe I should change something 😆
You are so cute and thanks for trying this for us. I don't think I can do anything like this in your condition. Plz girl take a break and rest.
Haha no problem! I will DEFINITELY be resting. I’m the queen of naps 😎
Your hair is beautiful but you need a gel that's going to form a cast. Upside down wash is the best way to start with.
Don't knock yourself. Your hair looks really pretty!
I feel like the fishnet method would work well on your hair type.
I have a video on that ☺️
I think your hair might be over moisturized. You have a hydrating shampoo and put a leave in conditioner and gel and oil. It is a lot. I would recommend a stronger more cleansing shampoo than a hydrating one.
