═══════════ ⚡Official Details ═══════════
A new scripted Harry Potter television series is coming! The series will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s original Harry Potter books, marking a momentous new chapter for the Wizarding World. Here’s everything we know so far.
In April 2023, it was revealed at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max Streaming Press Event that the Harry Potter books are to be adapted into a new TV series.
The news comes in tandem with the announcement that US streaming giant HBO Max will soon become Max - and the new Harry Potter television series will be a Max Original when it launches in the US. .
The new adaptation will introduce you to a new cast for a new generation of fandom, and will be full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations we have loved for over 25 years. Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and his incredible adventures to new audiences around the world.
The Harry Potter books were first adapted for the screen back in 2001, paving the path for what would become a beloved 8-film series that we still celebrate today. They will always be at the heart of the magic, but we are excited to hear we will have the opportunity to relive these stories in exciting new ways.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content described Harry Potter as a ‘cultural phenomenon’.
“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” he said. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”
J. K. Rowling, who will serve as an Executive Producer said of the news: “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.”

I hope Dumbledore speaks calmly this time around 🙏
Oh definitely.
Hahahahahaha lmao this is gold.
Did you put your name in the goblet of fire?? Dumbledore yelled at Harry calmly.
He will talk like they do in the hood, cuz he will be played by a black person
😂
My prayer is that it’s a faithful adaption to the books. It’s all I ask. At the very least let Ron be Ron, Ginny be Ginny and Hermione be Hermione.
GINNY AS BOOK GINNY 🙏
Exactly so much source material and stuff they left out it could be amazing
I care most about Ron
Please be as accurate as possible with the casting, story and personalities as possible! 🙏🏿
Yes, please!
I'm hoping that with the fact that J.K. Rowling is going to be part of so many decisions as she was with the movie and that this is her "baby" it will hopefully be kept very accurate to everything and hopefully actually make the chemistry between the characters that had romances better because I felt they fell very flat in the movies.
@@jesusxfreak2 Yes!
"accurate" lmao you already know they're going to DEI at least one of the characters 😂 A lot of the characters' skin colors were never really stated in the books themselves so there's probably going to be race swaps. Won't be suprised if reboot Hermoine ends up being black, they already did it with BLONDE Annabeth, making her black and not even bothering to dye her hair blonde or wear grey contacts.
Based on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, this reboot is def going to make Hermoine black. Wouldn't be suprised if Harry Potter ends up being swapped. For years, Indian Harry Potter has been a popular headcanon in the HP community so yeah. And with Hollywood's recent track of swapping ginger/redhead characters with black people, I wouldn't be suprised if the entire golden trio end up gettin DEI'd.
@@SarcasticSloth69 I seriously hope this gets postponed or something. Please don't let that happen!
i need everyone of the cast to be british/irish/scottish/welsh.
depends, some people think idris elba is british
They think that for a good reason, he is British
@@GabiSF he is african
@@GabiSF he is not
@@user-gs7iw6kl7o he was born in London and lived his whole life in England... so how he is not British? What are you smoking?
I hope they cast Jared Harris as Dumbledore. He’s the son of Richard Harris and he’s still young enough to stick around but old enough to pull off Dumbledore. Assuming he remains in good health, he could be _the_ Dumbledore for the entire series.
That would be brilliant! I’m not excited about the series but I would watch him.
He's incredible in The Crown and Chernobyl, he's the best choice for me.
Given how much crap has been done, with the rare gems among them only reaching decent, in the last ten years, I don't expect a sudden rise in Quality anymore. I'll believe them to not screw this up when I see them not screw this up. Until I see them doing it right, I will fully expect them doing it wrong. I'll keep an eye on it because I want them to do it right, and I hope I'll end up being wrong. But I will not let myself get hyped or excited until I've seen for myself for what it is.
Eva Greene as Bellatrix would be perfect
Wow I never thought of this and now it's all I want in my life
that would be perfect
If I hear an American accent, I'm outta there.
Every american hp fan agrees
real
If i see a black person im not watching
As long as it stays true to the books. No race or gender swap.
I hope they don’t dumb down Ron, I hope they don’t make Ginny a wet sponge
considering they stole rons lines and gave them to hermione, I'm guessing they will give him the same treatment this time around. + add a bit more diversity and maybe some boys getting into a relationship while they are at it.
hopefully they don't piss off the fandom with whoever the actors are. I know thats been an issue with other series like percy jackson or disney movies.
and the fandom can be open to not judge it the way they did with Fantastic Beasts and understand that this is a stand alone series from the earlier HP Series. Like not compare, let this be its own.
@@erikalulea3608It's just hard to see things change for some people. Some of us grew up watching the movies and falling in love with that version of the characters and having them be more accurate to the book (which would make me happy) might change things to the point of people not liking the characters anymore.
Ps: if peeves is in the show then I rate it 10 out of 10
piss off by what?
@@PotterSwiftie Actors/Directors/Writers have a habit the past 10 years maybe push that to 15, to say things in interviews, in statements to social media etc that are not good.
Attacking the fans, insulting fans, complete arrogance to the established lore/story to tell what they want all the while sacrificing the real story's quality. Playing victim cards that because there is fan push back from a bad show/movie, it must be dumbed down to a hate group of some kind.
Then actors on interviews defending the project during a firestorm and acting like they know whats best and that the fans are wrong etc.
This is most clear from Star Wars as a great example. It's a massive reason why that IP has rapidly declined in value. There is a big difference in making some changes/creative freedoms, respectively explaining why they decided to do it and that the fans gotta trust the process they will love it, and what these writers/actors etc pull these days.
@@erikalulea3608 ofc its going to be compared it the same story unlike Fantastic beasts
The biggest game made by Avalanche before "Hogwarts Legacy" was "Cars 3" so I will be making NOOOOO judgments on the show until I see it myself on day 1
Once Upon A Time was such a good show. Loved it so much ❤
seeing what writers and directors tend to do with source material in the last years, I'm honestly afraid
I just hope they will do as they said at the beginning…cover many more of the book scenes not shown in the films, NOT change the originally written story to modernize or liberalize the novels.
1) In TV production, it works in a few different ways. You can have a spec script or a full pilot script to pitch to different studios. If they give the green light, it's weeks or months of negotiations, and then development. Then pre-production for the pilot, production, and then post-production. Then the pilot airs, and if it receives good metrics, then there might be more negotiations, and then development, pre-production, production, post-production, and then airing of episodes. Typically, you build up about 4-5 episodes before they start airing. Then there's usually a hiatus, and then more production. You could shop or pitch a script for years before anyone wants to risk resources on it, or you could get lucky and have immediate interest. It takes a few months to make a pilot, and, from there, perhaps a year to to start pre-production for the show. 2) HBO's Harry Potter will be different from this usual route, though. Studios and production companies already know that a reboot is in especially high demand and the franchise basically guarantees hundreds of millions of dollar in profit. There won't be a traditional pitching or green-lighting process for HP. Instead, they already started by having most of their management and production team ready to go, including JKR. They were looking for a showrunner when typically showrunners are looking for them. Directors, like Mylod, are usually looked for while in pre-production, not development. Mylod is directing in addition to being an executive producer. This could go faster than you think because all they need now is good scripts (which Gardiner seems to deliver) and cast and crew. Right now HP's in late development instead of green lighting. If the rest of this year is basically finishing scripts and development, then late this year or early next year can be pre-production proper, including casting, and they could be filming by fall next year. I imagine there will be lots of special physical and digital effects, so HP will have a longer post-production, like a Marvel movie, which could all of 2026 for a release in early 27 or, if they want to be nostalgic, September 1st 2027. Aging kid actors will be a thing, so I think they are going to be filming constantly even if they release slowly. 3) As they say, they've been in development since 2021, but it doesn't appear they've developed all that much. It's very unusual to be lost in the weeds for so long without a showrunner. If they want a 2026 debut, then they need to be filming by no later than Spring 2025 which means they need to move fast through pre-production and casting the remainder of this year. Ideally, I think they need to announce the casting by fall this year.
While you sound like you're clued up on production processes and I don't deny your points, surely things will be sped up due to all the source material already being there to pull from, compared to having to write scripts out of thin air with new idea's. They could literally follow the books verbatim and people would be more than happy. In this particular series, I think the casting will take the longest of all the pre-production processes, once cast is near complete they will likely start shooting as soon as possible.
Great info! Thanks for sharing.
@@_Professor_Oak Things can speed up, please see my 3rd point. Even having the the resources, the books, at their disposal, even wanting to be very faithful, they still need to be transformed into scripts and paced. This isn't an easy process. I don't disagree with you on casting. This will probably be the most important part because we want them to actually look like their characters and be able to act. They still have a lot to get through, even if they mean to work fast. Production has to happen no later than Spring 2025 or they will absolutely not make a 2026 debut. I know that the image I created seems like a sort of complex set of steps to push through like a train barreling down the track, but there's a famous adage in filmmaking, among other industries: "hurry up and wait".
@@RetroRaconteur No problem! This is a sort of generalized and top-down look at TV production processes. The most important things to look at, in regards to when it might drop is casting announcements, if the crew is put together, if social media has them on location, and when that is.
Succession is absolutely excellent, and Mylod is a top director. Very promising.
Awesome to hear!
Succession is a fabulous show so I’m excited for them to be picked for HP
Thank you for updating us on this 👍👍. as much as the iconography of the movies means so much to me (although to be fair I started out as a book reader 😅) I am looking forward to a fresh take on the Wizarding World and am cautiously optimistic that the new series would at least get the main throughline of the books properly, after all they have more screen time for it.
also I don't expect them to be slavish to everything in the books, however I do expect them to be efficient about it, such as showing the viewers significant plot / characters that runs concurrent to the main plot, so that it pays off big time towards the end. (in the books, important plots/ characters are just relayed in conversation or the film skipping it entirely. that's kinda annoying.)
I'm also not fussy about the physical appearance of characters other than I hope they would retain something iconic of that character, like the Weasleys being ginger, or Hermione having big hair or Harry's messy hair may have meant he's a curly top 😅. other than that I'm quite ready to have more diversity in this cast as the real world actually is.
You bring up 'continuity'...I think it will really be important to use some of the content of the original movies, such as what we SO identify with Harry Potter... like the music themes (at least some of them anyway), the general look of Hogwarts, the way the creatures appear, etc. Even with an all new cast, SOME things need to connect to the original to bring that continuity, IMO.
I think the video said it's a REBOOT, with the main characters being recast. reboot almost always means everything is new to differentiate itself from the version that went before it. so sadly as much as we want to keep certain iconic elements of HP (music is defo top of that list) it's probably gonna be changed.
Let's just hope they're more book accurate with the house colours and emblems this time. It's a bronze eagle, not a black raven, on a blue background for Ravenclaw house.
You got this out SO fast! You are on top of it!!!
Haha. I try to always be ready to go when we get big announcements like this! 😊
My question is will they use some of the same sets from the movies seeing as they already have them or just rebuild everything?
Hey there Retro!! Thanks for preparing this video to keep us up to date on all things Harry Potter! My only hope is that they stick to the books instead of taking liberties. I always feel that the liberties that are taken with literary works always takes away from a franchise instead of adding to it. Either way, this is exciting stuff!
Wow, there's a name I haven't seen in quite some time! Hope you're doing well and glad to know you're still watching 😊
@RetroRaconteur I pop in from time to time, sir! And I still follow your Discord channel too. 😊 All is well with me and I hope the same for you and your family! Thanks again for providing quality HP content for this community; your hard work is greatly appreciated!
THE WHEELS ARE IN MOTION
Yes!
Fingers crossed they don’t mess this up.
Were you born yesterday? Of course it's going to be awful. The sole reason for producing this reboot is to use it as a trojan horse for cultural marxist propaganda.
Have you not been paying attention? Star Wars, Marvel, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings... virtually every franchise has been bought by woke propagandists, and look what they've done. They've utterly subverted every one of those franchises, to the point where the fans have all been forced to abandon ship.
@@OceanGateEngineer4Hiresadly this will be the case. We all know who will be black

@@JohnDman2020 That’ll be the result of cursed child. It wouldn’t have really been a big deal to me normally, but now it feels like a diversity hire rather than artistic expression. i really hope its english actors for all of the cast
The show will never replace the movies, especially some of the actors. However, if they make it their own it will be great. For example, make it darker and gritty, make the characters more like their book counterparts, show us all of the stuff they didn't in the movies. The books are the perfect source material, use it to the best of your ability.
If they cast the main 3 characters black, asian or hispanic, I’m not gonna be watching it like many other true potterheads. I hope they don’t include any forced woke BS in this.
It's got a lot to go to meet up to the first few Movies for me. Oh so HBO is cabel and max is the streaming service. Was confused about that. Defently going to wait until it comes on Max as I can also get other shows on max as well that I've been wanting to watch.
The movies have nostalgia factor, to be sure, but they never were particularly faithful or produced well.
Sounds like it will be live concurrently on both HBO and Max. So you shouldn't have to do any waiting.
@@Nemo_Anom Idk I'd say the first two movies were fairly faithful adaptations.
more Ravenclaw…hope they show the (very large and open) Ravenclaw common room)!
I’ll definitely give it a chance. I grew up with the series, remember when the books came out as a kid and the watching all the movies in theaters. Will be interesting to see what they changed and what might be the same. Let’s hope it’s good and doesn’t feel rushed. Music and effects have to be good, that’s a must.
Thanks 😊
No problem 👍
I’m so horribly excited for this! I honestly can’t wait! I was literally missing harry potter 😂
When I was a kid, harry potter was always something special and everyone used to read it and talk about it!

My only question is how do we watch the show in the uk, HBO and max aren’t a thing here (I’m hoping it’ll be on Netflix)
Are you familiar with Sky in the UK? I'm in the US, but from what I understand, they're the exclusive UK provider for HBO and tv shows such as House of the Dragon. I know Max is rolling out to other countries, but it may be a while for the UK. I found this form a Techradar article:
"Max’s presence in the United Kingdom depends on the business deal Warner Bros. Discovery has with the British telecommunications company Sky.
As Deadline explains, Sky is the “exclusive distributor of most HBO content” in the UK due to a “lucrative licensing deal”. The contract doesn’t expire until 2026, so it’s entirely possible people there will have to wait another two years before they can get something resembling Max."

Could be good News if the casting is fitting.
I hope this means a season per school year and 7 seasons
Let’s gooooo!!!!
while both are amazing directors i have a concern . both game of thrones and the favourite have dark atmospheres and are more serious than a harry potter spinoff should be
I don't know about that. I've never been a diehard Harry Potter fan or anything but I am aware of the lore, seen all the movies a few times etc. A casual enjoyer per say.
But Harry Potter 100% has dark themes, serious themes. It's a story that the main cast of children grow up through and of course in it's very nature is magical and has light hearted fun moments but there ALWAYS was a dark undertone to what was happening which grew more apparent each movie/book.
If you notice, even the movies carefully designed it this way, each movie the atmosphere itself, the environment became more gloomy as the threat and danger grew. It is beyond a serious situation that the kids are caught up in.
It's a perfect serious In my opinion best to be read as maybe a 12-13 year old reading it as they grow up with the characters. Obviously that doesn't necessarily apply now that people are most likely to chew through all the books in less than a month. But the story is meant to grow darker and more serious as time goes on.
@@mistplayzop you are a 100% correct but the favourite and game of thrones have a twisted atmosphere that i feel like dont contribute to the story. Also you have to think about the first 4 books that will be destroyed if they go game of thrones style.5 through 7 are darker but never to the point of the shows noted above. Because english is my second language i cant fully write my thoughts and my first comment was not what exactly what i wanted to say.Ultimately i will have to agree with you
I am 100% tour average Millienial: I grew up reading the bookers and watching Dan Ratcliff l, Rupert Grant, and Emm Watson be Harry, Ron, and Hermonie l..... im 32 as of 2024. That being said, I'm on board giving nee actors a chance to fill these roles. Nothing will ever beat HP Movies from 2007ish - 2024ish, BUT HP will love on!!!!
Looking forward to the Harry Potter tv series after todays announcements of producers and director who are going to be faithful to the books, thank Dumbledore Disney didn't get a hold of it.Thank you for JKR
im not going to take out anything before the cast have been made, rings of power and the Dragon Reborn series taught me that.
Lets goooo! 😁
Nice to see it going forward. Not sure how many people still have cable tv (and subscribe to HBO) though 😂.
It will also stream on Max (like Last of Us, House of the Dragon, etc.)
huh? u dont need cable
This is excellent news because if anybody will take care of the Harry Potter franchise, it's WB and HBO.
I hope so!
I hope they show students from the other schools. Perhaps they could do it by showing the pasts of other people.
I wanted to audition, but I’m not British. I can pull off an accent, I just don’t know if it’s good, and even though I could you have to be British to be in it, so I guess I’ll just have to watch it and fantasise that I’m in it in my dreams. 😔🤷♀️
Why tho?
All Ravenclaws say Blue
My hopes are high
I hope we get some new stories in the wizarding world eventually beyond this reboot.
Hopefully they cast according to their correct age. As much as I love Alan Rickman, he did not look like he was in his 30s.
Please don't force a load of woke crap into it like Disney does
Hahaha…. They will. Hermione will a black lesbian fluid sexual male whose parents are undocumented asylum seekers.
Agreed
Unfortunately, with the current state of the world, we all know they will. Hermione will be black, dumbledore will be undeniably gay, and it will be themed about the strong independent woman 😂 as much as I want this show to be great, I’m not holding out hope. Most new stuff is just politics and agenda pushing in “disguise”.

I wonder if they’ll have it take place in the 90’s
What about people in the uk how will we watch it
Yeah I've not seen many people talking about this. Since the UK is such as large portion of the fanbase though, and since JK Rowling herself is British, I assume there'll definitely be a way for us to watch it. There's still at least 2 years to go till this comes out, so it's also likely that HBO will expand to the UK by then.
Is Game of Thrones available in the UK?
Probably on Sky Atlantic
Max makes sense. Why would HBO want people thinking all the properties (like reality tv) was produced by them? Name recognition and branding are important. Max is literally better than hbomax in every way lol
Who'd be cast as Vernon Dursley, dyou reckon? Petunia?
hope they pick the perfect actor like they did for percy jackson (the series, not the movies, they were awful)
but they will never live up to the standard of the films, they were on another level
haha, i agree! the percy jackson cast is awesome
I have no hope they will do this well.
Watch Succession.
This new tv show might be good we’ll see, it might not be as good as the original movie trilogy of Harry Potter, the original Harry Potter movies were made in the early 2000s, it was a different time back then.
“More than exceed expectations”? They don’t really have a high standard to live up to since it seems most people aren’t excited about it.
"They don’t really have a high standard to live up to since it seems most people aren’t excited about it."
What are you talking about? There are definitely a *lot* of people (specifically the original book fans...) who are excited about it. I would say that everyone is just *split* on the idea of a Harry Potter television reboot... There are some fans who feel it's too soon to remake the franchise and there are others who want to see a new take on the Wizarding World that actually adheres closer to the original source material than the eight movies we got.
i just hope they would stay true to the source materials not like the witcher. The Witcher books is great, the game is great but the series really disenchanting.
Interesting
HBO is the only reason why I have any hope for this.
Don't fuck it up like they did to Percy jackson
I wish they’d just expand the universe rather than reboot it
I mean shouldn't the pilot script be Chapter 1: The Boy Who Lived lol
I think that chapter would be the entire first episode of the first season, may end with an 11-year-old Harry waking up in his Cupboard.
They need to make Voldemort as frightening and scary as possible....He has long thin fingers,Skull face with white pale skin and has a hoody and his voice is cold ans raspy and has red eyes pls do him justice because Ralph fiennes Voldemort was too goofy.
let’s hope it’s better than the Percy Jackson tv show
Idk why but I don’t even want a reboot… i just feel like it’s not gonna be good at all
The thing I would like to know is if the franchise rights also include the Harry Potter Theme / movie music. Any1 know?

I think they may (and should) use the main HP in the same way the Star Wars tv shows use the main SW theme and weave some of the character themes through new music created just for the shows. Love or hate the Disney+ SW shows, the blending of the familiar with the new music is one of the best things about them.
Hurry up 😅
Shhhh, He who must not be named…..
Guys. The idea of “woke” isn’t what we should be worried about. There is faithful and respectful to source material, and there isnt.
Nope. Wokeness is the worse. That one should be dealt with first and then faithful to the source material second.
Why? Oh money, yeah. Right.
I have absolutely zero confidence HBO will make a decent Harry Potter product.
You should, mind you this is the one who produce House of the Dragon, Succession, and The Last of Us.
Not to mention the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, which is the best half of the entire show.
Hope they dont ruin it like Disney does
I think there is a lot of potential for this to be really good but if they fuck it up after the last series of trash movies the franchise gonna be in trouble. I’m surprised she hasn’t written another book yet.

I didn't get The Last of Us as it was the most brought game and then the most returned game. My favorite game on Playstation is Persona 5 but I would love to see the PS2/PS3 Harry Potter games on PS5 as I would buy them straight up and not care if I have no money for 2 weeks
Wait, where did you hear TLoU was the most returned game? Maybe Part 2, but I can't see any way the first game was among the most returned 😅

Please Magic World no Woke world! Just this please!
I love the geniuses who don’t want the show to be woke. Either you never read HP, or you don’t understand what woke means.
I just hope that Rowling isnt TOO involved. As far as I know, she is the one who wrote/created the story for the crimes of grindelwald and secret of dumbledore and those movies are horrible. Begging them to just follow the books to a T.
That's why she should get involved in the big part, Harry Potter is her writing, which she ended it 17 years ago, no one know the series better than Jo.
Or you forget that Harry Potter books are also written by Rowling?
Cmon whyy why cant we just Have the Hogwarts Legacy show we were supposed to have??? Why we gotta reboot the entire franchise 🤦🏻♀️
I hope that they don't kill the twins
It's in the book, if they don't do that, it's equal to they don't respect the source material and not a faithful adaptation.
