- Even though the Harry Potter movies are beloved by fans around the world, they definitely had their share of issues adapting the iconic book series. And while I understand many are uneasy about the upcoming TV show, there’s a lot of opportunity for Max to do a few things even better than what we saw in the films.
So today I’m gonna give you my top 10 changes we need to see in the Harry Potter TV show.

A new scripted Harry Potter television series is coming! The series will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s original Harry Potter books, marking a momentous new chapter for the Wizarding World. Here’s everything we know so far.
In April 2023, it was revealed at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max Streaming Press Event that the Harry Potter books are to be adapted into a new TV series.
The news comes in tandem with the announcement that US streaming giant HBO Max will soon become Max - and the new Harry Potter television series will be a Max Original when it launches in the US. .
The new adaptation will introduce you to a new cast for a new generation of fandom, and will be full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations we have loved for over 25 years. Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and his incredible adventures to new audiences around the world.
The Harry Potter books were first adapted for the screen back in 2001, paving the path for what would become a beloved 8-film series that we still celebrate today. They will always be at the heart of the magic, but we are excited to hear we will have the opportunity to relive these stories in exciting new ways.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content described Harry Potter as a ‘cultural phenomenon’.

Small correction here: Fred and George actually don't receive their winnings from the world cup. It turns out to be leprechaun gold, which gets Bagman in even more trouble. Harry ends up giving them his winnings from the Triwizard tournament, which is how they open up the joke shop. Thanks to @jordankobylka2257 for catching that!
Which book is this goblet of fire or order of the phoenix I know about the winnings from the quidditch World Cup and tri wizard tourney but which one did they find out it was Gold
Leprechaun Gold was fake gold and disintegrated after a few days. Bagman had paid Fred & George as well as his goblin creditors with the Lep. Gold.
Harry won 1000 galleons from winning the TriWizard Tourney which he gave to the twins because he felt guilty about winning the Tournament…

Make Ron (and the rest of the Weasleys) more book accurate and give them more screen time and don't make Hermione little miss perfect. As great as Emma Watson was in the role, I couldn't stand her character in the movies in certain scenes, especially later on when she came off snobby and arrogant, particularly towards Ron. Her mix of positive and negative traits in the books made her a FAR more interesting character.
I will never forgive Steve Kloves for the "He's got a point you know." line in POA, when those who read the books know that Ron defended Hermione at that moment!! It shows that Ron is one who will defend his friends. The "He's got a point you know." makes Ron look like a complete jerk.
Yep, that was a really bad one on Ron's character.
And give Ron back his heroic actions in POA where he stood between Harry and Sirius on *a broken leg* to defend Harry.
Frankly just make both Ron and Hermione more like their in my opinion more likeable book versions. They both made more sense and were more likeable as characters, the trio dynamic worked better and the whole Ron and Hermione dynamic and eventual romance made much more sense and was actually quite a nice element of their characters. As much as I like the film portrayal and the cast’s performance, the books were significantly better characters.
Just make everything as book accurate as possible.
I want to see age appropriate actors playing Harry’s parents and their classmates (including Snape). It’s tragic that they died so young, and that’s lost in the films. And it’s so sad when he’s about to die and they go with him, proud of him, only a few years older than he is at that point.

It's called acting for a reason. People 'pretending' to be something they're not.
To be fair to the film makers, that wasn't revealed until much later. I think it was only in Deathly Hallows, when they're in the graveyard in Godric's Hollow, that we find out just *how* young the Potters were when they were killed.
For real, everyone praises Alan Rickman as Snape, but I just saw a weird 60-70 year old man baby who is still in love with a teenager's dead mom. Snape should really be in his 30's for his character to make more sense. Alan Rickman was hilarious and a tremendous actor, but the character just gave me uncanny valley vibes. He didn't seem like a real person. Not to mention, long jet black hair did not look real on an old man 😆. Either a bad wig or a blatant dye job.
@@Morgyborgyblob It's kind of hinted at in POA, even if not done on purpose, in the book, when Harry first sees Lupin on the train, he's described something like though quite young, he has flicks of grey in his hair. And if I remember correctly JK had a lot of involvement with making the movies, but I heard they made them older just because they wanted Alan Rickman to play Snape, not sure how true that is though.
Fantastic video! I feel we could go on about changes all day. Some I would also like to see are:
- Harry randomly stumbling on horcruxes over the years without knowing what they are
- Accurate depiction of the other schools' students
- Harry being petrified and hidden during Dumbledore's death
- Dumbledore's funeral
- Lupin and Tonks relationship
- Dumbledore's backstory (even though they're touching on this on the Fantastic Beasts movies, I always found interesting how Harry reacted)
I also believe the Marauders could be their own spin-off show if cast well.

- The Diary in the Chamber of Secrets. Destroyed without knowing it was a Horcrux
- The Locket in Order of the Phoenix. Found it while cleaning 12 Grimmauld Place and disregarded it because no one could open it.
- The Diadem in Half-Blood Prince. Found it in the Room of Hidden Things and used to mark the place he hid the Potions book.
And obviously Nagini.
When I picture Dumbledore I picture Richard Harris!
Yes, Michael Gambon was good, but Richard Harris was the original, and in the scene at the end of The Philosopher Stone where he ate the earwax, calmly accepting the inevitable, was the epitome of his character to me. In my heart's heart I would like to see Stephen Fry play the role of Dumbledore in the new Harry Potter series.

I want the robes back I hated them wearing muggle clothes at school in the movies
A consistency with the uniforms would be good as well!
So many times in the books they're described as being in wizarding robes, but that's completely dispensed with. Even in Deathly Hallows, when Harry goes to the forest to die, he's described as wearing robes.
I agree. But...Maybe robes for formal occasions only and a 'uniform' for classes, off time etc. Robes aren't very practical when fighting the Dark Lord.
@terryglover3215, robes is cannon attire. We don’t need another person changing anything based on their “vision”. We need book accurate depictions.
I quite agree about the robes. In the books it was always robes. they never mentioned a more 'modern' type of uniform seen in the movies. I always wondered what they wore under their robes though. Normal clothes, or another part of the uniform?

The only reason I remember this is because MuggleCast is currently doing a chapter by chapter re-read of the series. I dont own any of the audio books, so it's the closest I am getting to re-reading the series at work

The reduction of Ron's role & the "enhancement" of Hermione's character actually makes them both worse - not just Ron. Hermione is basically a flawless Mary Sue in the films. We just need a director that isn't a self-proclaimed simp for Hermione and we should be better off.
Absolutely. They are both so much better in the books. It’s annoys me that in making film Hermione they lost so much of who she was in the books, both in terms of positives, likeable character traits, weaknesses, flaws and eccentricities. They cut her character and replaced it with a different one largely. I like film version well enough but the book version is a better and more likeable character.
I don't support a lot of reboots, but this is one that I do support. Daniel, Emma and Rupert will always be Harry, Hermione and Ron. Alan Rickman will be Snape... always.
But a story is more than the actors who play the characters. The movies left out quite a bit, especially the later books. A TV show gives them 3 movies worth of time to tell the story of one book. There are some chapters that could have an entire episode.
This series has a lot of potential. I'm excited.
Harry hiding under the Invisibility Cloak to protect others, as well as sharing the cloak with others in the Xeno Lovegood scene is so important to the overall meaning of that Deathly Hallow (and the plot itself).
It's the only Hallow that's intrinsically about protecting others and it is so related to accepting death for the sake of others...
If, and only after, they make it faithful to the books, I would love to see added scenes from other POVs, that were mentioned in the books i.e. Fudge visiting Sirius in Azkaban. I also don't mind completely new scenes as long as they are in line with established characterization and serve a purpose, like better foreshadowing or more character development to side characters.
I was so excited when I read that it's going to be faithful to the books. Its my dream come true. :D

Yeah they said that about The Witcher too and that’s so far off I cancelled my Netflix subscription. One of my all time favorite stories and games and now I can’t even look at the game anymore without feeling disappointed.
Great picks. Some of the parts of the books that I want them to portray the most in the show is Ginny's character growth, having obstacles in the maze, showing the Quidditch World Cup, and having Kreacher be an actual character and leading the house elves in the final battle.
I'm also glad you mentioned Harry and Voldemort's final duel. I can deal with Harry not giving his speech to Voldemort but their duel should have had people watching plus Voldemort slapping and kicking Harry when he has a wand and is trying to kill him throughout the fight felt really out of place. I also thought the aftermath of their fight was too subtle with only Hagrid embracing Harry. Not even Ginny hugs Harry but just looks at him like she barely knows him.

I enjoyed the Battle of Hogwarts in the film despite not having as many characters and groups of creatures be involved but not having anyone watch the last duel and embrace Harry afterward felt anticlimactic. I don't really mind Voldemort's death in the film though even though that's probably the most hated change in the movies.
Really need to see the Blast Ended Skrewts! We got a version of them in the 4th video game but who knows
I have always been bummed about how they entirely got rid of Kreacher's good side. Him and Crookshanks are very important characters and got pushed aside in the movies. I want to see more of them because to be honest they are my favorites. And Peeves of course!!
@@user-cx7qv1il8k @user-cx7qv1il8k I was surprised when I read the books for the first time after seeing the movies that Kreacher was a character in the books. It's real a shame his only role in the movies is explaining the locket and fetching Mundungus for the trio.
Not to mention Percy also got shafted. I don't think he even says any lines after the third film. And Colin Creevey is in the second movie but later he and his brother are replaced by Nigel Wolpart.
We need Peeves the Pultergeist as well. It’s not Hogwarts with Peeves. We also need Charlie Weasley. Charlie Weasley is a fan favorite and the movies left them out almost entirely. Charlie will have a role in the Sorcerer’s Stone as he helps, the trio, get rid of Hagrid‘s dragon. He will also have a role in the Goblet of Fire where he officially meets Harry, goes to the Quidditch World Cup, and brings the dragons for the first task. He will also have a role in the Order of the Phoenix where he receives letters for the Order of Phoenix, however Dumbledore told him to stay in Romania where he was working with dragons. They also have a chance to show Charlie in his happy place. Show a scene in Romania where he receives the letter for the Order of the Phoenix. Have home read it there, then cut to a shot of the dragon sanctuary, maybe even having a dragon breath fire before cutting to the next scene. Charlie will also have a role in the Deathlt Hallows as he is in Bill and Fleur‘s wedding is Bill‘s best man and he has a role in the Battle of Hogwarts, leading a group of Hogsmeade villagers into the fight alongside Slughorn. He could literally have his Jon Snow moment.
So sad that they cut out Rik Mayall's scenes from Philosopher's Stone, but we need him so much. And Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday too.

Ginny gets her own agenda in book 4, also her romantic feelings for Harry are foreshadowed in a more mature tone (like when she gets silent after Harry tells she just asked Cho out and found out she goes with Cedric). Her Quidditch skills are also foreshadowed long before she joins the team as a regular player. And let's not forget that she joins Harry at the finale in book 5.
She is still a side character yes, but saying that she is just a fangirl and gets ignored by everyone until book 6 is just a blatant, ignorant lie.
@LegioXXI, Ginny went from groupie fangirl to Regina George. Never liked her in books nor film.
@@LegioXXI dean and seamus had more "screentime" in the books than ginny had you can cut her out of every single book aside from chamber of secrets and half blood prince and nothing will change. use dobby to tell harry about using umbridges office in order of the phoenix and put justin finch fletchley in the ministry battle as hes got about the same amount of interactions with harry at that point
And let's not forget the fake Moody reveal which was completely ruined in the film. And how Dumbledore appeared in that moment as well:
"At that moment, Harry fully understood for the first time why people said Dumbledore was the only wizard Voldemort had ever feared. The look upon Dumbledore’s face as he stared down at the unconscious form of Mad-Eye Moody was more terrible than Harry could have ever imagined. There was no benign smile upon Dumbledore’s face, no twinkle in the eyes behind the spectacles. There was cold fury in every line of the ancient face; a sense of power radiated from Dumbledore as though he were giving off burning heat."
Yeah, It’s funny that I love 3 the most and it’s the movie that begins to lack in comparison to the books.

Btw, why tf did they skip the son of lupin storyline? They divided the book in two movies and couldn’t fit this huge detail that would like 3 mins of screentime???
I think PoA is probably my favorite movie as well. Really wish Cuaron would have been able to do more than 1.
While I completely agree with everything on your list, I really hope that fix the Ravenclaw mascot and colors. For those who don't know, the mascot is the Golden Eagle, who's claws are black (raven). House colors are Blue and bronze ( not silver).
I hope they fix that too, never understood why it's a raven in the movies unless they just wanted to make it that because it's called Ravenclaw.

Peeves for sure needs to be in! I may make a separate video focused specifically on characters missing from the movie we need in the show. Bagman, Peeves, Grubbly-Plank, Charlie Weasley, and several others.
I need the scene after Harry leaves the prefects’ bathroom and drops the egg. I love the bit when Madeye sees Harry under the cloak and Snape puts two and two together as only Snape can. It’s such a good back and forth and upon rereading you realize Harry actually sees Barty Crouch Jr and if he would have looked at the map in that moment he would know Madeye wasn’t Madeye. It’s the perfect scene in the book.
There is another important thing that was skipped in the movie from the books it would have been nice to know. In the Movie Reeta Sketer (sorry for the spelling ) is spewing dirt on Harry, but in the books they explain how she is able to get her information which is skipped in the movies. She is an illegal animangus, a ladybug to be specific. I'd like to see this in the show personally.
Whenever I see the films now I just mock them for everything they messed up.
Among other things they need to get:
The 3rd task right. No stupid overgrowing hedges.
Need to do more to set up Serius as a potent6ial threat ie his break-in to the common room in film.
AND ROMOVE POSSIBLY THE WORST EVER ADDITION TO A BOOK TO SCREEN ADAPTION EVER WITH THE ATTACK AT THE BURROW.
Too many things missed out to name but the films had an obsession with making every death eater crumble

Idc what anyone says, I am hyped for the tv show. As a stabdalone the films seem amazing, but as a book adaptation they are a 6/10 at best.
To your number one point: Harry taunting Voldy and calling him Tom the whole time and explaining exactly how he’s beat him while doing it is EPIC!

I think the reason why the Ministry battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort was condensed and left out a few factors is because, if they kept to the way the battle was supposed to happen, adding statues into the mix to interfere with the battle in a very small set scene would have made the movie too expensive for production and so they had to make a few tweaks because the CGI of the moving status would've left the actors very little room for imaginative acting, now compare that to the Chess challenge scene in "Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone", it was very simple and it was a large set too, no complexities and also of course they had to use close up shots in cut-scene montage to make it not seem expensive for production, and besides the battle at the ministry of magic went on for quite a bit longer than the Wizard Chess challenge by comparison too. You have noticed how much they under utilized and underused the transfigured Hogwarts statues for the battle of Hogwarts for Year 7 part 2 right? Now do you see the pattern?
It always takes me a small moment to remember that the USA translated "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" into "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone".
I'm from the US, but I strongly prefer Philosopher's Stone for the title. The Philosopher's Stone is a real thing from history / legends that I read when I was a kid and learned about in school. What the hell is a "sorcerer's stone"?
Even if it is more or less shown in the films, improving Ron will also improve his love relationship with Hermione.
In the books, they are definitely an old couple before their time. Certainly with a lot of arguments, but also they very often spend time together when Harry is not there. And it will also highlight Hermione's flaws, she is brilliant, but not perfect. She can have a very authoritarian and stubborn character, even when she's wrong. And Ron is also often there to point it out to her, where Harry and the other characters generally avoid upsetting her.
Or the fact that he dances with Hermione at Bill and Fleur's wedding, while the writers considered another dance between Krum and Hermione like in GoF. This takes away a lot of why the two fall for each other.
But on the other hand is also often there to stood up for her, especially against Draco and Snape, even if it means taking a detention with the latter. And even protect Harry when he notices the scar on his hand from Umbridge's punishment, or when he gets up to oppose Sirius when he is still Voldemort's alleged servant in the Shrieking Shack.
I don’t think they were that odd. They certainly enjoyed arguing and teasing and just talking to each other, which is in character for those two, so they end up spending lots of time together both with and without Harry.
Point being I think they really enjoyed debating each other, they engaged with each other in a way no one else really did. They definitely get very offended when Harry tries to get them to stop arguing. And yes, they also point out when the other is wrong, which is also good.
They do have two proper arguments(Ron upset over Scabbers going missing and Hermione upset over Ron being sulky and getting with lavender) but these are very, very distinct from their usual bantering. They don’t talk to each other and are both quite upset. And ultimately I think these also add to their relationship, in the end, because 1. They grow as people and it doesn’t happen again, and 2. The literal millisecond the other needed them or had some problem they make up, which I always thought was quite nice to read, it’s not like they stopped caring about each other, even through their proper arguments.
They should’ve more of a feeling that those two characters were really close in the movies, as well as more of the scenes showing them actually caring about each other, rather than stupidity like “he’s right you know” and other awful changes like that. They were pretty great in the books in my opinion.
Well Ron is a redhead and hermione was retconned into a POC. So continues Hollywoods endless agenda of raceswapping characters.🙄
You highlighted all the things the movies lost that the TV series can return. This is where television has a clear advantage over movies: Time. TV can take the time to let a romance blossom organically or to show the gradual decay of a character into villainy. When you have to shove an entire book into less than 180 minutes, some details must be erased.
I missed Peeves in the movies. He has a great role in Chamber of Secrets. He followed Harry everywhere, making up rhymes accusing him of being the mysterious killer of kids. He got characters who were sympathetic to Harry to shun him, which isolated Harry from everyone but his closest friends. That made Hermione's petrification all the more devastating for Harry, because he didn't have many people on his side at that point.
just one problem about "The trio goes out" actually the Trio wasn't the Trio yet at that point- but Herimione was tagging along only because she didn't like what the boys were up too. And she only ended up going along with the boys (before meeting Neville) is because she couldn't get back into the common room because the Fat Lady wasn't in the potrait
Completely agree that Dumbledore needs to be a constant source of calm, but there is one moment where I do hope he properly shows emotion: when Umbridge, Fudge, and others are trying to arrest him, and Umbridge starts to violently shake a confounded Marietta for the evidence of Dumbledore’s Army. The Headmaster immediately drew his wand and told Umbridge that his students could not be mistreated, and it might be the only time in the books where he is specified as sounding angry.

In the book in POA right before Sirius flies away on Buckbeak he tells Harry “You truly are your father’s son” In the movie that’s changed to telling Hermione “You really are the brightest witch of your age” If the show makes it to the 3rd book I would love for that line to go back to what Sirius said in the book and I want to Ron tell Sirius he’ll have to kill them to get to Harry, and I would like for Snape to still be knocked out when Lupin turns into a werewolf just like in the book.
If they can't squeeze in the scene in GOF where they visit Sirius in the cave at least mention he's there. I would like to see more of them in Grimmauld Place, like in the book, a more book accurate version of the scene where they are looking at the Black family tree, show Sirius is related to the Malfoys. And don't have him calling Harry James, he never did that in the book, and he never confused the two.
I would like both of Snape’s memories to be more book-accurate I know that can't put every little detail, but at least show Lily trying to save Snape and him calling her a mudblood and I really hope they leave out him hugging Lily’s dead body, he never went to Godric Hollow’s in the books. I doubt he even knew where James and Lily lived until what happened was all over the news and everyone was talking about it.
I would like Lily, Snape, and the Marauders to be closer to their book ages and Snape to be more book accurate, have him portrayed as being just as nasty as he is in the books.

I feel like the QWC should at least be an entire episode, if not a two-parter. There's so much to that game; the introductions of both teams, for example, is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series of books. And the match was great, I'd really love to watch it! And also Crookshanks really needs more screen time, people who haven't read the books have literally no idea how important he is.
I think the show SHOULDN’T follow the books as closely as some people want. Now, before I’m avada kedavra’d for heresy, let me explain. When it comes to Harry’s story, follow the books. BUT, let’s see more than what’s in the books. Show us what’s happening in the Ministry, what the Death Eaters are doing, flesh out characters like Susan Bones, the Patil sisters, the Slytherins. Do some world building to enhance our enjoyment!

I actually think Snape *taught* unaided flight to Voldemort after learning it from Lily Evans, the only witch or wizard in history to discover it. She was practically doing it as a little girl, as seen in Snape's memories (and Petunia's shrill objection was phrased as if she knew what Lily was about to do, having witnessed it before). My own headcanon is that Lily continued developing this skill and eventually was able to fly without a broomstick, and then, sometime before their 5th year at Hogwarts, she taught it to her then-best friend, Severus. Again, this is just my headcanon; there's no need to pile on and tell me how wrong I am if you disagree! ;-)

Well a good half of the book was still "Riddled" with romances that has been going on in Harry's sixth year anyway, and I guess the film makers wanted to explore a little further on that, and because the meetings with Dumbledore was more about discovering Voldemort's secret to his power that they wanted to cut to the chase to procuring the part about his horcruxes, besides we needed a Harry Potter film to represent Valentines Day. There is a running holiday related theme that the film makers incorporate into the creative conception within each story: Christmas- Years 1 and 4, Halloween: Years 2, 3, 7-1 and 7-2, Thanksgiving: Year 5, Valentines Day- Years 6 and 7-1. The books however is color coded to represent an estimated focus in association to a Hogwarts house part of Hogwarts history, but not the exact colors themselves that would be more associated with each house, but is made easier to judge by the color tones in the films, but still difficult to place: Year 1: Gryffindor, Year 2: Slytherin, Year 3: Gryffindor, Year 4: Hufflepuff, Year 5: G_R_S , Year 6: Slytherin, Year 7: Ravenclaw and Slytherin.
i think it would be fun to start out the series showing some of the kids years before they meet at school. You can see some of the contrasting elements in their upbringing and most importantly you can have a scene with Mrs. Weasley reading the kids books to ron. Having the stories come up at the beginning and end of the series would be a great way to have some foreshadowing and it wouldn't be as random for the audience to have it just pop up right at the end
Most important of all, change Ravenclaws mascot back to an Eagle 😭

Well, Michael Gambon was used to playing oddball type characters, like: Baltus Van Tassel, so I think this might be Gambon's mistake and the film makers for Year 4 kind of rolled with it.

I would like to add it would be great if the TV series were truer to the books in regarding Harry and Dumbledore's conversation post Sirius Black's death. Because when I read Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, it seemed more emotional whereas the movie seemed to lack a lot of that emotion...
The books were pretty epic for sure. I enjoyed both the books and the movies for different reasons but I agree some major information from the books were either not captured at all in the movies or didn't translate as well as I would have liked.

What i really want to see in the new tv show, is, during the battle of Hogwarts, when Harry is going to Rowena ravelclaw, the room of requirement and those scènes, that Harry is more a part of the battle, bouncing off spelles and killing deatheters, this will be very cool to watch, I havent read the last couple of books, so i dont know is this will ruin anything, but I think it will be really great if they include this
Harry didn’t have his mother’s eyes in the movies lol also Dumbledore was more chill but he was still human and worried about Harry so him being pissed at Harry For potentially putting his name in the goblet of fire kinda makes sense Dumbledore wouldn’t want Harry putting himself in potential danger. lol
It could spoil the Principal's grand scheme of ending Voldemort, after all. So no, this is not the greatest sin of the movies for me, although I would envision Dumbledore remaining in control and collected even in that moment.
Goblet of fire was by far the worst conversion. Probably one of the best books.
My preferred elder wand outcome is Harry repairing his old wand and then breaking the elder wand. It’s the only way to ensure no one else would ever gain mastery of it. He could then put the broken pieces into Dumbledore’s tomb. I’m sure Dumbledore would have no problems with his wand being destroyed for the sake of destroying its power.
As much as I love Gambon, when I read the Potter books, I choose to having Richard Harris as Dumbledore in my mind's eye. I agree, Gambon's Dumbledore is much colder than what I am led to believe the character is like.
I hope the TV show depicts the conversation between Dumbledore & Harry after Sirius dies properly. To me it is the most important conversation in the whole story and the movie got it so wrong. In the movie, the conversation didn't even take place in the same room as the book. I was really disappointed by this. This conversation underpins the entire story it needs to be done properly.
I absolutely understand why they needed to cut out so many important narrative plot points in the books from the movies: especially in the last book adaptation when it was already given as much time as possible by it being split into 2 individual movies. I’m not bothered about what the TV show can get right or wrong regarding this because it really does all come down to time constraints and a TV show isn’t a much better option these days due to how much shorter they are now compared when they were 20-22 episodes per season in the 90’s/00’s.
All I want is for them to get the characterization right. The character representation and development is crucial to the storytelling of Harry Potter and nothing disappointed me more about the movies than Ron’s characterization. Rupert Grint is a talented actor, I’m not going to say he isn’t. But his portrayal of Ron was all wrong and I really don’t think it’s down to just the severe script and directive choices. I can’t just blame the writers and directors. I think he made some bad improv choices too that really regressed Ron’s characterization.
In the books, Ron is my favourite male character of all-time. In the movies - he was like watching Joxer from ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ or Xander from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. They had their compelling character moments but they were few and far between compared to the other main characters in the shows. Ron in the movies is like that. He has his compelling moments but they’re few and far between compared to Harry or Hermione.
So if there’s anything I want most in the Harry Potter TV show - it’s that.
I want them to get Ron completely right. I want to see my favourite male character of all-time. Not a comic relief stand-in because a TV show needs one.
Can you really blame the actor though? I’m sure all the actors no doubt moved away from the books as the film characterisation developed, and the majority of what happened to Ron(and Hermione, and Ginny etc…) was down to the writers.

The only part in the last battle I liked from the movie was when the Death Eaters run away when Harry reveals he’s alive.
Of all the changes the movies made, Harry breaking the Elder Wand is the one I like the most. He knew that as long as it existed, he had a target on his back, so he removed it from the game. And as for not using it to repair his own first, I feel it was the film's way of expressing the idea that the wand doesn't make the wizard.

Dumbledore should be dressed more like Richard Harris did in the first two films. Gambon's dirty sackcloth look we got from the third movie onward very poorly fit with a Transfiguration genius who also held a high governing role. It would be one thing if wizards did not care for appearance, but Dumbledore would seemingly be getting in his own way by portraying himself as a poor old codger rather than a grandly draped wizard closer to the flighty public opinion of the Wizarding world. Furthermore, Gambon's goof regarding 'Calmly' and his more reactive apprehensive reaction in the Goblet scene gave me the impression of a wizard more inline with Harry's intuitive/reactive wizardry rather than the more highly intellectual / scholarly style I expected.
There was one scene I was absolutely waiting for in Order of the Phoenix movie that didn't happen and I was pissed. That was... "Rescue Mission."

Not sure why we are having this reboot series. I have read all the books and seen all the films and am perfectly happy with them. I guess someone just wants to cash in. I would much rather have something original in the Harry Potter universe. Something in the past or the future of the universe.
I feel every character after movie 2 was portrayed egregiously incorrectly. Umbridge, Lupin, Sirius, Crouch, Dumbledore, Snape, Draco, Narcissa, Kreacher, Moody, Fleur, Cedric (in that I don’t think Robert Pattinson is attractive AT ALL), Mr Diggory, the Grey Lady, Luna, Bill Weasley, Cho, Mrs. Figg, Professor Trelawney, Percy Weasley, Mundungus, ALL of the Death Eaters, in my opinion, were all TERRIBLE representations that criminally deviates from the source material, but ESPECIALLY Harry, Ron, Hermione, Tonks, Bellatrix and Voldemort. For instance, although I think they aesthetically got her right, Bellatrix in the books is intimidating and murderous, Bellatrix in the movies comes off as the crazy old lady who has a bunch of cats and always curses the neighborhood kids for being too loud. Idk how anyone can call the movies after 2 good when they completely deviate from the story the only thing Harry Potter about is the character names lol don’t even get me started on Voldemort lol it feels more like Tim Burton’s spin on Harry Potter from movie 3 and onward.

Thank you for pointing out how badly Ron’s character was butchered in the movie. That happened because the first director liked Hermione better and decided to make her the impossibly perfect character the book did not portray. I agree that the TV show needs to correct this.

Okay we need to get hbo max to scrap the reboot and make a marauders series. Or a voldemort series. Or a show or movie about the next generation. Or a show where each episode centered around a minor character like Regulus Black, Hagrid or Charlie Weasley and their stories. Or a show with completely original characters going to hogwarts, preferibly in different houses than Gryffindor (maybe a show or movie based around a game like Hogwarts Mystery or Hogwarts legacy?) Honestly anything new and original would do. I think I speak for all potterheads when I say we would all enjoy something like that much more (ESPECIALLY A MARAUDERS SERIES I MEAN COME ON WE NEED THAT), and HBO wouldn't have a problem with the show constantly getting compared to the books and movies because it would be a original story. So hbo max PLEASE don't be lazy and make an original story, because the wizarding world is huge and has so much more to offer than just Harry's story

Oh man I just want a good peeves portrayal and more quidditch. They could make a good peeves just about as annoying as Joffrey from GoT
