    He said it was intended to be used as a 'deep learning' workstation. To do any kind of compute work you actually don't need the cards to be connected via SLI. I'm not saying that the pricing is right nor that 2080 Ti's or 1080 Ti's are good for computing tho.

    • @Skelath
      @Skelath 5 років тому +1

      That and SLI would slow any deep learning workflow and prevent the use of the 2nd GPUs Vram as it will pointlessly duplicate what ever the 1st GPU has loaded up.

    After rushing through this video/edit (too much going on in life ffs) and rewatching it a few hours later I noticed SOOOOO many more things I could have made fun of in this episode... Like for sure only 2 of the 4 SLI "rtx 2080s" are bridged together. That jungle sandwich says it had a hyper 212, not in picture. Liquid cooled PC has 2 dims installed beside each other. Acer PC has first aid kit, on floor, probably should have used it on that mutilated PC. Upsidedown corsair AIO PC spelled Nvidia as Nivida. And finally the fkn Honda motor says its a Pentium 3 dual core and I knew that was wrong but why didn't I point it out more is beyond me lol.
    What a fkn wild ride this was, thanks for watching!

    • @OmniscientWarrior
      @OmniscientWarrior 5 років тому

      Sort of. So long as you can tell the applications to run on a specific card, then maybe, but more likely to get different graphics applications to run at the same time but smoother and more efficiently when running at the same time. Or have the three SLI together do the "heavy lifting" and have the 4th do the graphics output, you can increase the performance just slightly.
      But overall, not really worth it.

    I've installed shop pressure filtered air injectors into wifi boosters before. Was the best and easiest solution at the time. The ambient temp in their location was running over 120°F and it kept them cool plus dust free 24/7. This also works for industrial automation computers as long as idiot shop managers don't turn off their air. The decompression from 7bar to 1.5bar provides enough delta for it to work. You wouldn't want to do it with pre-oiled equipment air like used for impact wrenches/etc but in a shop that has pneumatic automation it kicks-ass.

    For the 4x 2080ti SLI setup, you can see that 2 of the cards are in SLI and 2 are left on their own. If the PC is for "deep learning" like it says, then SLI isn't actually needed and the 2 GPUs that aren't being utilized by the system /at all/ can be 100% dedicated to doing that deep learning. Kinda like bitcoin mining where you can slap 6+ gpus in 1 system.
    He's just getting away calling it an SLI setup bc 2 of them are in SLI incase you want to game or something on your workstation PC, or do some video editing that'll utilize a SLI connection.

    to be fair, for the second ad, with DX12 (though, im not sure if the 730 supports DX12), as soon as devs start to implement it, you can use 2 different GPUs for different parts of the rendering pipeline, using 'Explicit multi-GPU' (or heterogeneous compute as its sometimes called), though, not sure how well it will actually work...

    4000 series Cpus were Z87/Z97. Z77 was for 3000 series Ivy bridge and the older 2000 Sandy bridge cpus. ;)

    5:20 on the contrary, if this hardware was set up for deep learning and AI, then those 4x "2080Tis" would have 100% scaling without the use of SLI / NVLink. GPU compute bound applications don't need SLI or NVlink to be able to use all the GPUs in a system.

  • @chrism6880
    @chrism6880 5 років тому

    You can use 4 2080 Tis together in GPGPU for machine learning. Sure, it's not SLI, but you don't need the copied VRAM of SLI in compute, so that doesn't really matter.

    W.r.t. the 23k PC, SLI is irrelevant for machine learning since each GPU is working as an independent compute unit, so it actually does make sense to have 4 of them (assuming you can partition your presumably very large data set efficiently) as long as you have the PCIe lanes to run them at full 16x, which the Threadripper does. It's strange that there is an SLI bridge at all, only connecting the 1st and 3rd cards, I guess the seller wanted to do some gaming on it too.
    Not saying it's a good deal (pretty sure the build is like 10k brand new including water cooling), a good idea to sell it on eBay, or weighing in on the 1080Ti/2080Ti thing because the seller should know better than to make that mistake (though at this price, I'd hope they're 2080Tis, also because the tensor cores are actually useful for ML), but otherwise the build is actually on point.
