On the Gotrax 1, you pull the key out and ride, so do you think I can leave it on all the time? Just turn the screen off. I'll try that and see if the battery drains.according to your video, I think it would be fine.
Two questions. 1) do you get a continuous discharge of the battery. 2) fire hazard. As the battery is always on, will it overheat during charging since it's always hot
1) No, this was shown in another video about dual batteries, link card inside of the video 2) Always on always hot. the implication of always on is that there is a constant draw from the controller, and that is not the case (refer to 1). Always hot is how batteries normally exist. Most of the batteries are always hot, even the lectric xpedition is this way.
I have a rubber phone charm attached to my key so for me that makes up the inconvenience of having to use it. It adds to the look of my XP 2.0, but I can't deny it feels good to not need a key at all. Is there any chance of phantom power drain with it being 'on' all the time now?
I don’t think so for a few reasons. I have a ton of e-bikes and only the Nakto and Lectric require keys, on top of that, I tested the dual battery setup which is always hot, and there was no phantom draw. Naturally, your battery is going to deplete over time not using it, but a consistent draw like leaving your bike on, is not happening.
I'm not a fan of the key position on my senada drifter, same as lectric, but it literally takes 2 seconds to find the hole! Just like anything, the more u stick it in the hole, the easier it gets!! Know what I mean??😅😅
I wouldn't worry about a shock. I don't think there's much current going through that wire. Wouldn't it have been easier to drop a short, straight piece of your paper clip, or a small piece if folded aluminum foil into the other part of that plug and then plugging them back together? That would short out the wires.
Thank you for that yeah this is the exact video I was looking for got any other really cool ideas maybe to increase the speed cuz mine is locked out at 38 and can't go to 100 any
I can’t guarantee anything 100% but I’ve been riding and charging this daily ever since. confidence level is 90%. like I said in the video, Lectric is one of the few brands that require a key, most other brands don’t. I have 5 other e-bikes of various brands, and none require a key to ride, only required to remove the battery.
My XPedition E-Bike does not have a key. I think LEctric is moving away from the key. I love not having a key, I have a key but it is only to remove the battery if I want to.
It’s hot, not on, there is a distinction. Lectric and Nakto are a few brands that require a key to ride, this is a simple bypass. Charges just fine, riding as normal, just that I don’t need a key anymore.
no it does not. The battery has "HOT" terminals, but it isn't ON. An always ON bike will deplete fast. I went to Hawaii for a week, and came back to a full battery.....
So i actually opened the battery up today and they don't have the plug and play connectors like yours they have soldered the wiring that are in cased in some kind rubber protector. I cut the rubber to look and sure enough the two red wires they are soldered to some kind of mini motherboard . Maybe they changed the design after they realized people have been doing this mod ? I'm not sure if you'd have any insight on how to get around this as my ignition is completely destroyed and makes it difficult to power on the bike
yes, mentioned in the video. the lack of key is a small prevention at best, you can simply pedal off with the e-bike. the only e-bike key implementation I like is from bandit, key card/passcode.
Too hard to use rear break, pull up/back on handle bars to stand bike up on rear tire for key insertion? I realize that wasn't your only issue, but seems an easy answer for the hassle of finding keyhole. Seems a silly design that's for sure.
I dont know man, you should give it a try and tell me how you feel about doing that? My guess is that it's not good because you can break the key when you fold and you can break the key inadvertantly when you transport, and it just looks bad seeing a parked bike with the key in the hole, someone can simply tamper and take your key... then what?
I've been having issues with my ignition going bad and you just save me from spending 260 on a new battery. You my friend are a genius 👏
Thank you for the amazing video
Glad you liked it!
So helpful, thank you!
It was a death by a thousand cuts

I never thought about it but if you have two batteries you have to have two different keys. Bummer
Two questions. 1) do you get a continuous discharge of the battery. 2) fire hazard. As the battery is always on, will it overheat during charging since it's always hot

Lost my key and just went with this tutorial. Thanks man
Did it work?
@@VizionsxX yeah it works! I just did it with my bike!
@@VizionsxX Yeah, it worked fine. As long as your battery is unlocked then its a breeze.
I'm not a fan of the key position on my senada drifter, same as lectric, but it literally takes 2 seconds to find the hole! Just like anything, the more u stick it in the hole, the easier it gets!! Know what I mean??😅😅
😁😁😁
I just leave the key in all the time, and toggle on and off. When I’m parking the bike I secure it with a U lock.
I did the same thing till someone came along and swiped the key from the ignition while it was off

Simple hack. Have plenty of jumper wires I can use. How confident are you that it doesn't harm the battery at all?
I can’t guarantee anything 100% but I’ve been riding and charging this daily ever since. confidence level is 90%. like I said in the video, Lectric is one of the few brands that require a key, most other brands don’t. I lost my keys in general now I can’t remove the battery or turn on my bike please help
My XPedition E-Bike does not have a key. I think LEctric is moving away from the key. I love not having a key, I have a key but it is only to remove the battery if I want to.
Nakto did the same recently, moved away from key requirement. thank goodness. makes sense with expedition, capable of two batteries
I’m guessing with connector shorted there is a constant signal voltage applied to controller. Have you tried to measure that.
not directly, but in this video: ua-cam.com/video/1QM1wzaypdA/v-deo.html it shows no drain with a hot battery and controller.
Watched other video. The connector you took off on control side looked like it had only two wires connected to the back side. Is that correct?
Thank you! Thought i had a dead battery but this connector was broken in the battery!
glad to hear it was useful
having it on all the time wont it drain the battery? and is it bad to charge it if it's on?
It’s hot, not on, there is a distinction. Lectric and Nakto are a few brands that require a key to ride, this is a simple bypass. Charges just fine, riding as normal, just that I don’t need a key anymore.
Thieves are going to LOVE you!
You should express your concerns to Lectric, they did away with key requirements on their latest cargo bikes
I always do electric work on concrete as well
So wait a min isn’t it now the battery is always on and it’s gonna die faster?
no it does not. The battery has "HOT" terminals, but it isn't ON. An always ON bike will deplete fast. I went to Hawaii for a week, and came back to a full battery.....
Lost both the 🔑 keys. Battery is locked, What are my options?
Can i drill through and then bypass the key?
locksmith should be able to help.
I did I got mine to work
what about recharging the battery, will there be any issues?
no issues with or without the mod, it's the same.
My F1 GOTRAX let's me take the key out and still works.
is that a local brand or online?
@@YouTruther I think you can buy them from selected Ebike stores. I bought mine online.
I have a gotrax 1, can I turn it on and leave it on all the time? With the controller off when I park it, what do you think?
man you need a table
Hows the battery holding up ?
Just fine, it’s fantastic

Great idea but also makes it easier to steal I would think.

TBH, I never even considered that 😄
But you void warranty
Void warranty vs saved sanity, it’s your choice.
You can always pull the jumper and plug it back in.
He cut the magic tape to open battery, warranty void.
wait holup why not just leave the key in at all times at this point? at least youl;l have the option to turn it off? just take it off the key ring
I dont know man, you should give it a try and tell me how you feel about doing that? Have you thought about just hacking the key so that you can pull it out?
Maybe you should explain the entire warranty will be voided if someone decides to do your so called fix! Is that really worth it? No!
there's a clear warning that I cut through in the video 😆, what's worth more to you, warranty or sanity? Only you can make that choice.
