When I had a bike stolen, locked to a stand at the local golf club, the thieves took the stand and the bike and loaded them into the back of a van and drove off. People witnessed the theft, but no one took down the number-plate number of the van, and they were never caught and I never got my bike back. If someone REALLY wants a bike, a lock is of no importance. GOOD VIDEO.
I put an airtage underneath the seat in the cover panel hidden away. Ik where my bike is at all times. Also i have 2, 18mm hardened, aluminum alloy, steel thick chains i lock my bike too. I tried cutting it with a cutter the other day to test it out, it took me like literally 10mins to cut halfway through one of the locks. Which is generally enough of time if you're going quickly into somewhere and right back out. Even if they had time and could cut through the lock, they'd still have the airtag to worry about
@@matthewaldrich6455 I’m planning to do this as well. Did you remember to disable the speaker in the tag? Also, I’m going to put the tag inside the plastic controller box out of sight. Good luck!

Sorry about your bike being stolen. Yes, it's true that a lock will not stop every thief, but locks have probably stopped a lot of "potential thieves". I have a Foldy Lock and Three,,, count'em THREE motion sensitive alarms. The alarms will sound at any motion of the bike and finding and eliminating one alarm will leave two more still squalling. Well, if anyone deserves a commission for their suggestions…it’s you! This was the most helpful video I’ve watched, and I’ve purchased several of your recommendations. Thank you so much!
Haha! Cool. Thanks! On my phone notification, I only saw “you are a perfect example of” and got a little worried what you were saying to/about me! Haha! Glad it turned out to be a positive comment! Lol.
Very informative and helpful for this 65-year old rookie e-biker. Just getting comfortable after about four weeks and 20 or so miles, and now ready to spend energy and money to dial it in. Thank you for your time and expertise.
I am 55 years old and I haven't ridden a push bike for about 30 years. But I have started to feel the gentle nudge in the ribs from Health and Finance. So I am getting a bike. Things have changed a lot in 3 decades, so was looking for tips and ideas. I now have added to the list of things I need, and when I choose them I can draw on your advice. I found your video informative yet concise enough, and impartial. More importantly you have an honest and likable presentation so you easily earned a like and a sub! I'm sure you will be helping this old man stay safe in the months to come as I adjust to this strange form of transport! My thanks in advance!
Haha, this is my favorite comment. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know your thoughts! I’ll be in my 50’s myself in 8 short years. Glad you liked the video. More coming. Still editing.
But Sir, I suspect your 50's will be more full of life than mine have been so far. You never know, you may well be instrumental in making my 60's better than my 50's? HaHa. Good luck with your channel!@@Funcentric
I’m 60. I’d suggest a middrive e-bike with pedal assist. I had to build my own cause I’m very picky. The Lectric Xpremium is where I’d start looking. Full disclosure, I’m meeting with them about setting up a dealership bike store because I think they have the best product at the best price.
Great video……Question for you……I ride a Hyper e-bike mountain bike 26 inch…..the forks don’t have mounting holes for fender installation, what do you suggest?…..I just turned 77, can’t drive any more due to eyesight limitations, so the e-bike is my only means of self transport…keep those videos coming. Very likable person. Stay safe.

Yea the analog clock is exactly what I need. 1st time AliExpress buyer $3 shipped. If it is junk I'm only out $3. You have made a lot of great suggestions here. I really enjoyed the video.
Arrived in 7 days to Pennsylvania after ordering and it looks great and keeps very accurate time. Going to put a $6 bell on the other side to keep things symmetrical. Not to mention the onboard horn in the headlight is too loud for a bike trail.
Coming over to bicycling and ebikes after being a motorcyclist for years but for now a major injury took me out of motorcycling more. E-biking has been good physicsl therapy so far and gotten me back on two wheels again! Thanks for the realistic accessory tips!
For my seat post I just swapped the quick release to a regular bolt so you need a tool to remove it. From my experience if someone brings a tool for theft they are gonna bring a tool to defeat a lock so they can steal an entire bike, not just the seat off of it. Bolt actually didn't cost me anything so win there for budget value. I also do not carry any weapons/pepper spray for self defense. Technically where I am it is illegal to do so. I do not live in the USA.
My brother, I've been riding ebikes for the last 14 years in Brooklyn NY, starting with a 200w prodeco ebike, boy o boy, times have changed for ebikes..you are super great at explaining things, thank you..

Hi from NZ. Your suggested suspension seat post is helpful. That makes a cloud9 (etc) unnecessary, as most standard seats are fairly comfortable. I already have an alarm, various good locks and a rechargeable air pump. My EBike came with those extended palm-support grips. My wife and I have Sena helmets (because they have inbuilt connected audio coms). Thanks for the video.

My ebike arrives this week. I am a new e-bike rider and appreciate your practical & realistic advice. There is a lot to learn. Hopefully I will be able to replace my car with the ebike for most of my transportation; the bike should be a lot more fun with less to worry about.
@@stephaniecruvant9130 if it has cadence sensor, take time to coordinate your cadence with the PAS level and the bike’s gear. After a while, you will get good at it, and it will be smooth. It takes some time so be patient.
Great video! There aren't nearly enough yters who make content about bike commuting. Whenever I watch a mtb channel they always have insanely expensive gear but this is affordable stuff with real use value. Keep it up!
Bro those garage door openers are the bomb. I bought 3 for $20 on Amazon they program up in 30 seconds and they work great. I keep one on my bike key ring. Thank you.
Thank you for this super long/detailed video. New to e-bike and new to commuting a super long distance for work on it (long to me, anyway, ~16 miles each way), this gives me a ton of ideas for things I hadn't even considered I might need.
Haha. I tried to make it short so it can be bearable to watch. But I felt like I still wanted to be thorough about it. Challenging balance. Haha. Glad you found it helpful.
I reccomend the Hövding airbag helmet, on my second. I can't imagine any other helmet beating it for protection, it's like a neck brace and airbag helmet in one. Wasn't high impact when my previous one inflated but after I fell off it was like landing on a pillow.
Thank you for your information. I had owned e-bikes for decades and thought I knew everything until you talked about racks and then learned something new. Now I subscribed and will learn more from you!
My e-bike is a folder. Can take it with me inside where I’m visiting and fold it up close to where I’m setting. In some cases it will fit under the table. One other thing that I like about a folding bike is simply that it’s much easier to hide. In a TSHTF scenario, I can fold it up and hide it under something like a dense group of thickets.
Thank you bud! I am new in the ebike space. You've helped me with your solid videos! Now to binge more. Edit: This is a wonderfully complete accessory video. well thank you again!

Great video the cushion for the rear rack is genius, I have a Duotts C29 that came with a rear rack, my (teenage) kids refused to sit on it, but with a cushion and some of those foldable foot pegs, they'd probably be fine on there in an emergency, I had taken the rack off after a day or 2 of never using it and took the rear/brake light and zip tied it to under/behind my saddle so I still have lights.

From an old biker, for putting handlebar grips on, old fashioned spray car, the propellants lube it up to go on easy, the propellants evaporate, the hair lacquer remains then adheres the grip to the tube, yet, a bit of HOT water 💧 🔥, and they come off easily too!
I really enjoyed your video and I don’t even have a bike. Maybe some day I’ll get one. Information is valuable and your video is very informative. When I was growing up you could ride your bike anywhere and leave it out front unlocked and never have it stolen or tampered with. There really were, “The good old days”. I’m 79 now and need a little help. My legs just don’t have the strength they once did. I never knew there were so many gadgets for a bike. Hope you do an update as things change. I’m looking for my last bike.
@@georgeloveday9674 Thanks for the kind words. I would just warn to stay away from a torque sensored bike for your situation. It would require much harder pedaling. I have a friend that hurt his leg (he’s in his 60’s) and much prefers a cadence bike. You’ll hear a lot of myths about how torque is better simply because they are in higher end bikes. Don’t fall for that. A cadence sensor bike is indeed less smooth but only because it requires user input to coordinate the assist level with their own cadence and the bike’s gears. Requires a lot less work and won’t remind you as much that you are riding a bike. As a last bike, definitely don’t get a lectric brand. You deserve better. And also you’d want a physical place to be able to service it even though their online customer service is superb. Aventon sells bikes through physical stores which means you won’t end up with a bike that can’t get service and your brakes likely will not squeal when you get it which 90% of all budget e-bikes bought online suffer from. Keep it easy. Stay safe. There are some UA-cam channels dedicated to seniors riding e-bikes. I don’t recall the names but I’m sure there’s valuable relevant content there for you.

Yeah, this is probably an old video but I’m that guy that you were talking about earlier. I have just purchased my first Jetson bike. The brand of it is a you know Jetson but it’s the.J5 Version of the Jetson electric bike I love it. I wanted to go faster. I’m definitely on a budget. This video is very interesting to me because my bike right now is naked and of course I want to add stuff to it and of course I’m gonna budget. I just wanted to thank you for making this video, because looking for these things is not easy and I rather learn from other peoples mistakes as opposed to my own mistakes because if I wanted to learn from my mistake, I would have done the shunt mod already and I’m nervous about doing it because I don’t want to generatea lot of heat to ruin what I just purchased so yeah, like I wanna power my bike up first before I add all the accessories my bike is amazing I love it. You already know about the speed thing and if you have any advice about how to do the shunt mod correctly with the Jetson, they had other options like the Bluetooth application of the Jetson, but I would have to add the Bluetooth because they stopped making them and I just got my 2024 in August so I’m fairly new in this. I got a 350 W motor. I want the 750 W rear motor. I wanna upgrade the battery upgrade the controller and do the Shunt mod and have everything on a 72 V system. This is the way I’m looking at it so I don’t have to go through the my bike went on fire or my bike started smoking. No, I don’t wanna go through that. I don’t wanna play with my bike I don’t wanna play games with it And get it done the right way it seems like you know a lot about the electric bikes. MY E-CELLS e-mtb ACCESSORIES-> 1.) Velosurance 2.) LiteLock U lock (diamond level security rated) My Super Monarch Crown came with a big front basket (mounted to the head tube) and a rechargeable e-air pump which works great with settable PSI .
Oh yeah, for chain cleaners, I use Tri-Flow. I've lately started using a dry lube though b/c supposedly it doesn't require so many steps. Easier to apply and use the bike right away. I haven't used any protection sprays. To bleed my brakes, I used a generic one from Aliexpress. Works fine. It's a generic EZMTB style one. I swear it's the same thing but just no branding. Not certain though as I don't have the name brand one to physically compare side by side. No plans for a video on that topic but I am working on a night time accessories video.
Omg I'm so happy to see another aliexpress shopper! I have so many of the same things you do! I did the same with the blinkers. I've saved so much money, especially on my rechargable air pump and then I got an easy attachment that is life the car tire ones so you don't have to twist it on. It also has air release.

I'll probably want an ebike sometime, but in the mean time I'll use my Dutch bike. (I really lucked out with that one). These products are cool, but a lot of them aren't super necessary for this kinda bike. I think one way of going about it is a more minimalist way. I've got a rear basket with a rack rated for 80kg and a front basket mounted with a single bungee cord. It works, and I don't have to worry about storage for anything specific like my backpack, lock, water, and lots and lots of groceries. The handlebars are drawn back and upright without much on them. The frame lock, hold on... I'm reading this back and it looks like I'm just bragging about my beat up bike. The seat is very much stuck and it weighs like 80 lbs. I guess my original point was that I think about buying accessories differently. No hate on your video.
Hello. Like your input on e-bikes. Bought the alarm you recommended. I really like it, but, was disappointed that the remote control doesn’t let you know there is an alarm on the bike. Otherwise I enjoy your suggestions. Thanx, Luke.
I saw this demonstrated on UA-cam----To get a grip off of a handlebar, you can use an air compressor with small tip to inject air between the handlebar and the grip. A lot of small engine shops use this technique.
@@brewdub no, they’re all from AliExpress mostly. The deals are constantly cycling through so they become irrelevant very quickly. Check out the $1.99 and SuperDeals sections. There’s no search function on those sections so you just have to look through.

Top tip for you for your grips use a flat head screwdriver and some hairspray a wee scoosh and it'll slide right off! And do the same scoosh abit in the grip and on the bar ends and slide it back on to give it a good grip hold to the bars! This what we done as kids in the 90s early 2000s on our bmxs and downhill racing bikes! Works a treat id probably still be doing this if grips weren't lock on now! Best thing ever! Don't use ipa itll remove paint and melt the grips or worse make them brittle! I use it for 3D printing cleaning if it gets on anything rubber or plastics or painted items it ruins the paint and structure of rubber! Don't use it please not for inside a grip! @@massterrbarber 36v is below the standard at least in the USA for an ebike. I don’t know if you’ve seen my other videos about how to choose one. So you’ll need to be realistic about the bike. You won’t be able to take serious hills on a 36v system. If you are purely looking for speed, the easiest mod is to change out the chain ring for something bigger. That’ll allow you to go faster with the gears it has but at the expense of being able to take hills as easily. Increase in speed and range don’t go together. One or the other. To gain range, you need to take it easy in the throttle and help pedal as much as you can. 20ah is fairly large size as far as capacity. It’s too early, but you can eventually overvolt it which will require a new 48v battery, new controller with all the proper connectors and then a replacement throttle. Not worth it for most. E-bikes aren’t really made to mod. You just want to get the best one you can afford and just enjoy that. Pouring money into an ebike won’t make it worth more. Consumers do t want to buy custom modded bikes generally.

Some very nice accessories you have found. Do you know if a set of turn signals could be set up to operate as a string of 6? So 2 for the front, 2 for the back & 2 for a trailer? Since they are cordless, I am wondering if the signal from the handlebar control would reach to the set on the trailer? Thank you.

@@lmsarmiento Correct but Class 3 is still for offroad use. Most cities still limit to Class 2 speeds on public roads. That’s why bikes that are Class 3 capable are shipped with Class 2 settings and Class 2 decals. You always hear about owners “unlocking” to Class 3.
@Funcentric , the only restriction, besides age and helmet usage, for Class 3 ebikes is that they are not allowed on Class 1 bike paths. Otherwise, they are street legal. Anything over 750w and 28mph pedal-assisted max, is limited to offroad use.

I see what you mean, but I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not given my rides like some "reviewers" on youtube. The stuff I do buy, I spend a lot of time researching with lots of considerations. The blue bike i built myself 15 years ago. I just loved it enough to keep it and revive it. The yellow bike I wanted for 8 years. The brand Juiced is now gone as of a couple weeks ago. So it wasn't bought on a win. I had my eye on it for almost a decade. The white cargo bike is for the family. So it's recreation, but also does have some utility. Avoiding parking/traffic, etc.

I don’t have much experience with bike racks other than a traditional one I owned decades ago and more recently the KAC K4. It has all the features including it being lockable to the hitch and each bike itself is also lockable. Meets the weight requirement for my e-bikes and is expandable from 2 to 3 to 4 bikes. It also can angle out to make clearance for the rear hatch to open. I got a crazy deal when they accidentally priced it wrong for less than 24 hours. Can be expensive at regular pricing though. It does not have a ramp. For a ramp, you’ll likely be getting a motorcycle rack which doesn’t have space for each individual tire. It’s more of just a flat surface with four edges. I believe harbor freight has something but you’ll need to buy a ramp separately.

Hi great video. Regarding the alarm. How did you manage to pair one remote to two devices? Please help as i cannot find a way to do it. Thanks in advance.
I go over it in detail in one of my other videos. I have a demo specific for the turn signals. The short answer is that you engage the turn signal on the remote and then hold the on button on the turn signal that you want to pair.
Thank You for a great video! 🙂- Did that mounting bracket come with the Master Lock Cuffs? I just looked them up on Amazon, and it doesn't show/say anything about a bracket, so just wondering...

I really like that Juiced ripracer and I was thinking about buying one, but I'm 6'2" and it looked really cramped in length. I did some research and it was a little shorter than my wife's Lectric XP lite which had a shorter wheelbase than the Lectric XP 3.0. I ended up buying the XP 3.0 because of size, but I really wanted that 52V. Is it a small as I think it is, or was I right to get the Lectric? Don't get me wrong, I like the Lectric, but that ripracer is a cool bike.
Rip racer is better made and a much better performer. No contest. We’re talking about a 12 year old company vs one that’s only been in business for a few years. Lectric is a budget brand. Juiced is designed for performance. My friend is 6’-0” and wishes the handlebars were slightly higher but likes the rip racer otherwise.
Great video and thanks for sharing. I own an Lectric 3.0 and my wife has the Lectric trike. I purchased a front and rear light for the bikes and discovered the hard way that I will never use a rubber holding device ever again. The first time I put the rear lighhts on that held the rear lights the rubber part broke and so I am now stuck with 2 rear lights that are useless, but I didn't buy them for the rear lights I bought them for the bright front lights which came with better attachments. My friend had cancer and he was not to ride a bike for over a few months. Are the cloud-9 really better than the standard seat that comes with the lectric bikes??? I recently bought better rear lights with signals, alarm & signals. Because the rear basket has flat pipes in the middle I feel I will be able to drill small holes in the basket and mount the new light directly to the basket. Any suggestions for the front and rear baskets as far as mounting other utensils?? Again many thanks for sharing information.
@@glong2720 I have never tried a cloud 9 saddle but people swear by them. As for mounting the accessories to the front and rear baskets, it would really depend on what you’re trying to mount to it. You c vs a reinforce rubber mounts using zip ties as a backup.

Totally! Glad it was helpful. Thanks for taking the time to let me know. Ride safe!
What a refreshingly honest and helpful video, especially for those of us who are toying with the idea of an e-bike. Many, many thanks for this.
Glad it was so helpful! I definitely enjoyed making the video too!

Nice! I think you’ll like it. Temu=boo. AliExpress=Yeah!
Arrived in 7 days to Pennsylvania after ordering and it looks great and keeps very accurate time. Going to put a $6 bell on the other side to keep things symmetrical. Not to mention the onboard horn in the headlight is too loud for a bike trail.

@@mandaloresmercy you’ré very welcome. Get well soon! I’ve since been down to getting on just Onewheel.

Hi from NZ.
Your suggested suspension seat post is helpful. That makes a cloud9 (etc) unnecessary, as most standard seats are fairly comfortable. My wife and I have Sena helmets (because they have inbuilt connected audio coms).

I reccomend the Hövding airbag helmet, on my second. I can't imagine any other helmet beating it for protection, it's like a neck brace and airbag helmet in one. Wasn't high impact when my previous one inflated but after I fell off it was like landing on a pillow.

For a water bottle: I’ve been using a “tactical” water bottle pouch… which had many attachment points. Condor, helikon Tex, maxpedition, etc.
I had/have been considering a pouch like that too.

You hit the important issues with all aspects of ebike s ! Good on you!

If you have any advice for me, please I live in a city too the bronx great content and thank you for the video. Please reply if you can.

My Super Monarch Crown came with a big front basket (mounted to the head tube) and a rechargeable e-air pump which works great with settable PSI .
Great video! Want to see what else you used like cleaning, protection sprays, lube etc. So much cheap and pricy stuff out there.
Yeah, not a lot of AliExpress talk on UA-cam because they don’t sponsor anyone. UA-camrs are big on commissions with Banggood.
I was always weird about Aliexp. But I'm definitely gonna buy there now. Ty!!
first time viewer... I actually have that exact model battery powered air pump, lol.... works awesome for small tires but barely better than nothing for car size tires... nice informative video!

If you have any tips for speed I just ordered a new 36 v 20ah for longer rides.
Could you please provide a link (or any info) on that front basket..? Or did it come with the bike..? I'd love to find a good front basket.

The best thing in this review for sure is the electric air compressor.
Class 3 ebikes in CA (and various other states) have a max speed of 28 mph.
Btw, nicely done practical video.

I believe harbor freight has something but you’ll need to buy a ramp separately.
great video!!! Thank you!
You literally hit all my concerns w certain accessories. I won a ebike and just got it 🎉😊 however it came with a comfort seat and suspension post which i was super excited about ...however I am 5'1 lol. Can I just change the post back to normal so i am able to get on my bike and lower my seat? Thanks sooo much
Thanks! As far as the seat post, yes you can get a standard seat post and gain probably 2" back.
Great vids man, so like we're can I get the glasses from in you thumb nail ?
Aliexpress. You can just type in polarized bike sunglasses and it should show up. $1.79-6.99 or so usd depending on when you buy it.
Thank you , I learned a lot and will use your advice, suggestions,,,
Cool! Glad it helped.
14 years ago it did but not anymore. I’ve been having a hard time finding another one too. Maybe consider the Foldylock Forever. On sale now on Amazon for $97 shipped.
@@Funcentric I'll check it out!
I always use motorcycle rated helmets because it's better to be overkill than underkill and destroy your face. Also I have heard that non full-face helmets do not affect survivability.
I just don’t like the weight and limited visibility. Most bike injuries actually do not involve the head at all. Just a precaution.
Cool TREK E bike Conversion man -- What is make and the specs of the rear hub wheel & the battery?
wish you provided hyperlinks to your amazon store to purchase the locks
@@docdco01 Unfortunately the sale is over. But here it is, a.co/d/dmnW6Z9 I don’t have an Amazon store. Not an affiliate. Sometimes Hiplok will have sales too. You want to check eBay as well.
The reason I don’t have links is because the cheapest price changes all the time. I don’t want to promote a particular source because I have personal incentive. I just want people to get the best price.
I bought a bell with a hidden AirTag holder. Cool
Shhhh, don’t tell anyone. Heh.
@@Funcentric true dat!
My ebike helmet is made in Germany by Cratoni. Luv it.
Nice.
My lock takes three grinding disks to cut a link or the lock. So yes, you can cut through it with a grinder. But it takes a whole lot of seconds. Not just a few.
You must have the X1 or D1000.
