Lectric XP Simple Brake Adjustments To Stop Scraping Noises

  • The first thing I noticed when I took my Lectric XP Step-Thru for a ride was that there was a slight scraping noise coming from my front brakes. After doing a little youtube research, I realized that scraping and squeeky noises were common for mechanical disc brakes on electric bikes and some issues were not that difficult to resolve.
    In this video, I will show you some of the easy adjustments that can be made on most bikes that have mechanical disc brakes with similar designs to the type on the Lectric XP ebikes.
    Here are some of the videos I watched to learn more about adjusting mechanical disc brakes. In my opinion, the first video made by Park Tools was the most informative:

    My wife and I are new to electric bikes. One of our new bikes came out of the shipping box with an annoying brake noise, and this was more "squeal" then the "metal-grinding" type, so I went to "UA-cam University" and found your video. Your instruction was easy to understand, and covered all of the key points necessary to eliminate the noise problem. You made a great comment about not touching the brake rotor, and I will add that it is extremely sharp. Wear gloves when working around it. When that disk is spinning, it looks more like a meat slicer. As a side note, the background music is a bit distracting to hear the sounds from your bike, and that is minor. Thank you, and keep 'em coming! ( I subscribed)🙂

    It would be easier to hear the brake noises without the background music. Your videos are excellent and very helpful, but I would love for you to lose the music. Thanks for the great info.

    brilliant very helpful video! I had contacted Lectric about the scraping sound in my brand new bike, and they suggested to just keep on using it as-is, that hopefully after a break in period the scraping would disappear by itself. thanks so much (Lectric should pay you a commission for your assistance to the Lectric community)

I cannot believe we have rode 28 miles with them like that. I thought it was the fender rubbing. It was the front brakes.

    Great presentation. Sure this is great when a person feels comfortable working on their brakes. I would go to a bike shop to work on my brakes. Ebikes are more heavy than normal bikes so you want to make sure your brakes are working properly when riding.

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  3 роки тому +3

      Yes. You are so right. Brakes are one of the most important safety parts on an ebike and if someone does not feel completely comfortable working on them, I would highly recommend taking it to a pro to get them worked on. I honestly did not feel totally comfortable working on mine, but felt that the mechanics of the brakes seemed pretty straightforward enough that if I felt that something might even be a little questionable, I would stop and take it to my local bike shop. When I first heard the scraping noise I was immediately going to head on down to a shop, but enough youtube videos gave me enough confidence to try some of the simple stuff first. I am still not sure how comfortable I would be to change out worn brake pads, but we'll see when the time comes and I may be ready to tackle that challenge then. Thanks for the comment! Safe riding!

    You are my new best friend
    Thanks so much I just got my new XP 3 and when I heard that noise just rolling it in my living room I was feeling not so great so I found your video and I did the adjustment although with this new version it doesn’t click it was my front wheel that I had the issue with. It doesn’t click, but I just turned it until the noise went away then I tried to tighten it a little bit to see so I can adjust it just to the point where the noise goes away. And in fact, the noise did go away and I’m a happy camper. Thank you so much you’re legend 😎✌🏼
    The only other issue that I see is there’s a chip in the paint on the bike a fairly large chip that happened due to shipping i assume. I guess there’s nothing that can be done about that.

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  Рік тому

      Glad you were able to stop the scraping brake noise. Regarding the chip that happened during shipping, I would reach out to Lectric to let them know what happened and see if they have touch-up paint or any other policy to help you out.

      @@EbikeProducts thank you very much. I did reach out to them and they sent me some paint in the mail. The only thing now is my front and rear brakes are making a loud squeaking noise when I brake I’ve only written the bike for 8 miles. I called the company and they told me to clean off the rotors with alcohol so I did that and will see if that helped. Haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I just need to break in the brakes 😂

    Good video. This is a good quick fix if your inner brake is rubbing. I did make adjustments for both, but the brakes continue to rub. Unfortunately, on both front and back outer brakes. Subbed and liked months ago, Thanks again for another in detail and very helpful tutorial. I also watched 7-8 vids.
    You summed up everything nicely, my brake levers were becoming very spongy and becoming dangerous as in not
    stopping. Front and back levers could be pulled into the handle bars. Barrel adjustments, and tighten the cables did the trick. Thank you for your videos, I have not received my Electric e-bike yet, but the question is do I need the entire (Bike Hand 34 piece Complete Bike Repair Tool Kit) seems like a lot? If im just starting out. Is there a smaller version of this that would include the Torque wrench? Thanks again for all your time.

      I honestly think that you can get a ratchet wrench set, a socket
      Wrench set, and a long handle T hex wrench set (all metric), and a small home tool kit that has screwdrivers, wire cutters and pliers. This will get 90% of repairs taken care of.
      I don’t use 80% of the stuff in the bike tool kit anymore. Just make sure you have a 15mm and 18mm wrenches and sockets when you buy your sets. Also be sure to get long handles on the hex T wrenches and the kind with balls on the end. Makes things 100x easier.

    Thank you, thank you! You do a great job at explaining things simply and to-the-point and stay focused on your topic. You explained the fix for my new Lectric XP Lite in the first few minutes of your video. (The second scraping sound scenario.) I didn't hear a "Click" when I adjusted mine, but I just made an ~ .25 turn and the problem disappeared! You're wonderful and I really appreciate the help you gave me on my new e-bike! You'd make an excellent teacher!

      First let me tell you that you make some very helpful videos. My question is I live in Va and I store my enoje outdoors with a cover winter can get very cold at time so do you think that I need to remove my battery went the bike is outside?

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  3 роки тому +1

      @@joelmorales3273 Thanks for the kind words! Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to both hot and cold temperatures and should be kept in moderate temperatures when possible. Here is a great article I found on what is the best temperature's to keep your battery at:
      ebikeshq.com/temperatures-ebike-battery-storage-usage-charging/
      This is a direct quote taken from that website: "You can think of electric bike batteries as a “Goldilocks” type of device. It doesn’t like to get too hot, neither does it like to get too cold, it prefers temperature ranges that are “just right”. That includes temperatures ranges for charging between 41°F to 113°F (5°C to 45°C), typical use while riding ideally around 68°F (20°C), and storage between 41°F (5°C) and 68°F (20°C). "
      Since ebike batteries are very expensive, I remove my battery when the weather brings extreme hot or cold temperatures and being a little extra paranoid, I also have an outlet timer so I never keep the battery charging for more than 8 hours which would be more than enough to charge a really low battery.
      Hope that helps!

    Great video..thanks. Was curious what others found to be the best way to get their XP in the upside down position? Do you lift the entire bike and contort it upside down or walk it backward on the back wheel until it settles onto the seat?

    • @lucky7mojo
      @lucky7mojo Рік тому +1

      You could apply brake and walk it back like that. How strong you feelin' today boy? Sometimes ya gotta just grab a bike and flip it. I always remember to he careful with display and remove handlebar headlight
