Best part of the video??? You! Your attention to detail and doing things that no other mechanic, that I have ever found, would do!
Excellent work and great video!
Thank you 💪
That was a very good video very informative. I appreciate it. I’m getting ready to do a fuel pump in my 91 Civic SI and it was very helpful.
Excellent job Excellent video and thank you and thank you for what you do. From Andres j. In florida
Because I have a 1991 honda civic dx hatchback which is just almost the same as in motor and fuel tank as well again thank you so much God bless 🙏
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
You never have to apologize for a lengthy CRX video ❤

I was able to buy the OEM strap insulators for my tank straps-
in case of other cars, might not have them.
In those cases, IMO it's important to, keep out corrosion from
in between those tiny crevices.
In your case- a bicycle inner tube, cut to length, slide strap inside.
Adhesive like RTV silicone the ends closed. I've even seen carefully
wrapped quality electrical tape around straps. That metal-to-metal abrasion
really eats steel. At least your spray is something.
A "garage" will never take extra steps for you; they'll zip on your new, bare
steel tank and done.
I give mad respect for your attention to detail.
Love the demonstration, of how easy it is to mix up wiring. With different connectors and aftermarket suppliers, it's not as easy as clipping things together.
I overlooked that mix up and it cost me a ton of time
@@themechanic6117 Even though a few 'armchair experts' can egotistically jump on you for including it, countless guys like me appreciate you including errors. There is nothing better than learning from somebody else's mistake, ha ha.
I totally agree with your final thoughts, seeing those old bolts and rusted parts finally being removed and replaced was so satisfying. I feel like driving around town would just FEEL smoother and cleaner. I love the content and would so value any granular details you can provide, be that in the form of a walkthrough or a reference guide for parts, kits, and instructions for replicating what you have done. Thanks for the post, I am looking forward to the next one!
You do an excellent job troubleshooting along with clearly explaining your step by step process in solving a problem. The video was not to long, because, troubleshooting and solving problems many times is a slow process. I don't know about you, but many times I walk away and cuss a little bit. Makes me feel better, LOL! Semper Fi, USMC.
😂 giving it the stink eye look sometimes helps as well lol thank you for taking the time to watch.im happy with how it turned out
I find when I run into problems it's good to take a break from it, clear your head for a few mins and then come back to it.
@@erocker78 That is the smart way to do it. But, I get stubborn and stupid sometimes. Then I throw a few choice words at it and I feel better,LOL. However, most of the time I do walk away. Not easy though.
This is just great to watch, a classic little sports-tank gets a long new life. My favorite part is you didn't edit out the wiring swap.
Your did a good job. I did the same thing in my 87 Jeep. The tank was leaking so I had no choice but I found a deal that included a new fuel pump with a tank. Wow, that wiring was crazy. Great job getting it figured out.
This tank wasnt leaking but looking the condition of everything it was just a matter of time. The harness colors being mixed up still baffles me. Cost me a ton of extra work unfortunately
@@themechanic6117 shit happens man but lesson learned, right? That's experience and knowledge. I bet that won't ever happen again.
Great job on this video! Excellent! Love the humor.
Thank you 😁
Late comment, great video! very informative great job. You are the first video I come across with a fuel tank change to an 88-91 CIVIC. Nice work!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video
Great detail to the max ! also I was relieved you finally busted out the Milwaukee ratchet.... game changer !
👍💪thank you. Yeah i love that ratchet. Saves a ton of time.
Yes-tuh.. After a long hard day, this video was the perfect therapy session for me 👍
Lol thanks for watching👍
I love the Beginning mate
Thanks! 👍it's witchcraft
Here we go! I love this project
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have to do the same on my CRX. I’m not looking forward to it. Rebuilding the engine is easier
Had many of same issues you had. You reacted much better than I did!! Maybe not off camera.
Its Definitely frustrating but having the right tools makes a world of difference
lol, just as watching you did the wiring, I was thinking "what if they've got the color wrong?". This happened to me on a Nissan Maxima aftermarket air blower assmbly. Instead of blowing air inside the car, it was sucking air out!
Isnt that crazy! It's the little stupid things that eat up your time
OMG man. The rust on this car is blowing my mind. Down here in TX, I don't see anything like this.
Welcome to chicago ! And this car is low on rust.... You should see what a real rotted away car looks like 😂 you guys out there are lucky at how clean your cars are
Crx videos are awesome 👌
Damn that sucks the pump was wired backwards , I was wondering if that was the issue while you were trying to start it..., nice job on the pin repair.. I’m glad you took care of the rust before installing the tank..I loved the old CRX , it sounds like my 2013 CR-Z...oh yeah my favorite part is hearing and seen drive down the street after all the work !👍
Thanks. Good to know.
Tools rock!! Nice vid
Thank you
Awesome video!
Thank you 💪
Thanks for sharing, il be doing this next to mine
Good luck 👍
Omg I need that socket for rounded nuts and bolts so bad XD I replaced the fuel tank in my 95 civic and had similar issues to you.. glad you didn't break some of the bolts on the fuel tank when putting the pump in lol. I'll need to do the e-brake line too like you did so I am glad you did that :D Nice video!
Those sockets work wonders! Definitely get a set. Hey no problem. With the tank off its super easy to replace those e brake cables. Thanks for watching💪
@@themechanic6117 Nice :D What are those sockets called so I can search for em? 😅 and no problem dude! :D

The complete set is sold separately. You need to buy this plus the other sockets.i believe you can find them at Auto zone.
@@themechanic6117 Awesome! Thanks man!
Very neat job. Looks good.
Thank you
You're great meachanic and you should be very proud of yourself myfriend thank you for the videos im chef love watching videos like your and crazy Timmy an astrol auto repair great guy both u guys should get together and get one big ass shop open i will be there to help godbless and thank you
Looks awesome Johnathan. Nice pump testing diagnostic, seems odd to place the polarity symbols so hidden . 👍👍
Yeah it caused a extra ton of work for something so stupid
Bet you can't wait for that sweet K20 upgrade!
I'm itching like a crack head 😩😂
Good stuff!
I find it amazing/frustrating that a piece of metal that is soo badly rusted, that it can be twisted by hand, can be such a pain to actually remove from it's home.
Yes , it has no more of it original strength but still difficult to remove 😂
Can actually hear the fuel pump priming in high pitch in the beginning, then sounded normal after you switched the wires
I noticed the difference too
@@themechanic6117 awesome vid bud! So helpful if anyone runs into the same thing👍🏽
It's weird not seeing a few inches of snow everywhere
😂
love these videos!
Thank you for watching 💪
Nice! Your patience is really amazing! I am a big fan! Would this be having a B16A2 engine please? If not, could I use the same part number? Thanks!.
Great videos!
Thank you!💪
Great job on your videos bro 👍 very helpful and I like how you cover every little stupid thing because when you work on your car that's the hardest part is the stupid little things 👍 I really like the old school Civic hatches so your videos are very helpful thanks
Thank you for the comment . Glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah these old civics are pretty cool!
Nice job dude!!! Saludos desde México!!!
Thank you !👍😀
Nice job! Just did my fuel tank as well. What is the little arrow that lights up on the left side in the instrument cluster? Never seen one
I think its only on the HF models to tell you when to shift but it seems like its way off , rpms seem off as well
How much was one completely ordinary bolt, except in a Honda bag? 16:21
If i remember correctly all the new bolts were about $50 -$60 worth of bolts from the dealer . i got bolts for other things on the car alsi
Dude I love how you break loose crusty old bolts. Can you please tell me where to get that heating iron and the special socket?
The sockets you can find at autozone i believe. The induction heater i believe i ordered it off ebay
@@themechanic6117 thank you. You did a great job on the fuel tank. It looks great!
@@themechanic6117 I was just checking out those induction tools. Not cheap! LOL...Oh well, you gotta pay to play! I'll just add that to my wish list!
Whats the name of the heat bolt thing
Inductive innovations mini ductor 2 , you can also search for bolt buster .
I started following you on ig. Blessings
Thank you
Awesome 👍
are you able to put a link of where you bought the products from?
All the parts came from ebay/ rockauto / or honda dealer
Hi sir,is necessary to bring down the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump,is there any option to replace the fuel pump,Does a faulty fuel pump causes eratic rpm/jerking while in motion, hoping for your reply thanks
Yes the fuel tank needs to come off to change the fuel pump. Sounds like your issue may be something else
That fuel pump assembly fit s all ef models?under autozone part number doesnt match vehicle
I dont think so. I think it only fits 90-91 but i may be wrong . also im not using a original fuel tank
@@themechanic6117 under crx it fits but not the civic for some reason ,its there a difference in 88-89 to 90-91 fuel assembly s?
I think they are different because you'll find parts that are only listed for 90-91. Go to the garage built hondas channel. He know much more about these old civics and crx
I had the same issue if I switch the wires at the plug underneath the back seat will it mess anything up
I tried switching power n ground at that plug using my power probe just to test it before i drop the tank again and it kept blowing a fuse.which makes sense because the tank itself is grounded and not you're trying to send power to it. So i dont think you can just switch the wires at the connector
@@themechanic6117 Yeah I figured it would fry something was just be lazy wish it was that easy but pulling the tank again today think it's a common issue with these pumps I'm pretty sure the polarity is labeled backwards on these cause I checked I'm going to be getting it tuned on Monday it's a rod and piston D16 with full valve train and a turbo kit anyway thanks bro
Torque specs on fuel assembly nuts 4 lbs ft. Page 11-110 honda manual
Good to know
Great videos! Do you have to upgrade your fuel pressure regulator going to a 255lph pump?
No the stock FPR works just fine
The filler neck reconnecting sucks. Im doing it on my 86 CR-X right now
89 Crx lol
Yes sir. Idk what to do with it lol
Yeah it does suck.thats why i left the straps a little loose until i got the filler neck reconnected
@@themechanic6117 i got it started all buttoned up. And wouldnt you know it. Runs rough blown head gasket i think
Man that sucks! Planning on fixing it?
Did you ever find the lost washers?
No I had to order more from the dealer 😫👍 but it got taken care of .
@@themechanic6117 thanks for the tip on the 341 and 342. A single order and three hours later. Pump is done. Where did you get the sending unit from?
@@ThePepper1981 I came across it on ebay
Perfect video , I’m looking to purchase new fuel pump for my 1990 crx will the walbro gss341 be a plug and play ? Do I need any harness thank you ! Great video
It depends where you get your pump from. If the walbro you buy does not come with a harness make sure to buy one because you will have solder in the new harness just like I did in my video.
The mech a nic . Thank you ! I will look into that before placing my order ? By any chance do you have a the part number for the fuel pump hanger ? Or link ? It would be nice to just replace with fuel pump as well . Thanks
What do you mean fuel pump hanger? Like the complete fuel pump assembly from delphi?
Loving your videos. Convincing myslef that these are could first project cars. Should I buy an 89 CRX Si? Found a very good yellow one with only 117 000 kms . Up here in Canada. Thoughts?
Theyre great for project cars. If its in decent shape and its a good price id jump on it 👍
@@themechanic6117 Thank you for your response. I had one lined up, the guy was to hold it for me while I had a pre-purchase inspection set up, but he sold it on me. The appointment was made, but he didn't feel it was fair to make others wait. Some people suck.
Man that does suck. Sorry to hear that
Hey Mechanic,
Question for you: Did you install the new fuel pump because it had failed, or about to fail?
My 91 CRX has a dead fuel pump. It apparently died like a light bulb went out, so when I turn the ignition key to the ON position, there is no sound or signal coming from the fuel pump, even though I have verified that proper battery voltage is supplied to it. What are your thoughts on a dead fuel pump like the one I have? Is it common? I'm wondering if other CRX owners have had the same [dead] fuel pump issues. Thanks.
I just changed it as an upgrade to supply more fuel to the new engine. If you have power n ground going to the pump then yeah it's a bad pump. They usually just randomly fail. Especially if it's the original pump that came with your car
@@themechanic6117 Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure it's the original fuel pump (I'm the third owner). It's a 34-year old car, so not really surprised that the pump failed. I haven't driven the car regularly for the past 10-12 years, so that may have been a big factor for the pump failure (i.e. bad, stale gas with ethanol sitting in the tank for years). It seems with cars, under-usage can be just as bad as over-usage. Live and learn.
sorry to bother you man, what fuel strainer did you use? the original one don't fit tightly. i got the 341 the pump is smaller then the original is that suppose to be like that -__-
I had the same problem lol . I don't remember the part number but I remember this video helped me find the correct part. At the 13 min mark he talks about it.
ua-cam.com/video/UOrw15qOLHI/v-deo.html
@@themechanic6117 it looks like the walbro pumps are smaller and the inlet port looks smaller but has thicker walls making them the same size as the original pumps inlet. A used strainer fits lose but a new one sets tight. Thank you for tha help og
1st boom
Carlos beat you to it 😂👍, I take it back, you were first lol
@@themechanic6117 lol no he did not have just checked it I was the first comment boom lol
hello that gun you are using, what is the name of it can where can I buy on amazon
Check my Amazon link. It should be in there
Why did you use the Walbro pump rather than just using the Delphi?
Dephi is more of a stock replacement. Walbro can move more fuel. Its better for when i swap the engine to a k24
I installed this same pump in my CRX, and it works great, but I have a gas smell sometimes when I'm driving. Especially when I go around a right hand turn a little fast. Can't see any leaks anywhere around the fuel lines, but I haven't dropped the fuel tank to check around the fuel outlet area. Do you think it's most likely the gasket around under the fuel out let flange (where the 6 nuts go)? Or could it be caused by something else. I reused the gasket, and probably should have bought a new one.
Usually that upper gasket only leaks or shows the leak whenever you completely fill the tank . If you can smell fuel is must be leaking from somewhere. On a old car I would definitely not reuse the gasket that came off. So far on my car no leaks and no smell of gasoline
What kind of an engine it has with a 5k redline?
The stock engine that came in the HF crx, i think its a 1.5L
@@themechanic6117 Cool, I´ve never seen one´s tach before. I don´t know if they were ever sold here in europe.
Mine is a original red 1989 1.6i-16, with the 130hp DOHC ZC engine :>
It´s almost restored fully, only modification is a Mugen-style HKS Sport Exhaust system
When is the kswap video?
I'm not sure...
i got mine with a blue wire but also swapped at connector wrong!!wtf
I feel your pain 😞
Did you notice any difference on power?
No, unless the original fuel pump was bad you wouldn't notice a difference.
@ tomorrow I’m gonna install my high fuel pump wallbro, and gasoline pressure regulator , do you think I’m gonna notice something?
Probably not, it should just drive like normal. The fuel pressure regulator will maintain the same pressure before and after the new part
@ I’m gonna put 3.5 , what u think
About how much parts and labor?
I have no idea, too many hours invested in this
My new fuel pump does not sound that loud.
It's been working fine for me, no issues so far
@@themechanic6117 sorry, I guess my question was... Is it normal for a pump not to sound that loud when priming?
what is the harness called or where did you buy it ?
I think I got it off ebay. Just searched walbro fuel pump harness
@@themechanic6117 did you search crx fuel tank for the new tank?
Did you check the pressure after u changed the fuel pump bro?
No point in checking pressure when I could see no fuel was coming out the line
@@themechanic6117 okay sir..i just want to know the fuel pressure out from the filter to the fuel rail..because i had checked mine,i got only 28-29 psi..im planning to change the fuel pump..follow ur guide..may i know..hows the walbro fuel pump doing?is it still in the tank?
@@themechanic6117 for your info im still using the stock fuel pump..
Yes the walbro is still in the tank and no problems at all with it . Some people say the walbro is slightly louder than stock but I really don't notice it, you also have to consider its a performance pump so even if it does make a little more noise it's expected
@@themechanic6117 yeahh i dont even care about the sound of it hahaha..for sure ill go for the walbro..im loooking fot the performance pump as its very hard to replace the fuel pump..btw tq for the video bro..
so the fuel pump is a 342 not a 255?
It's a 255
@@themechanic6117 he mention on time 21:50 about what fuel pump to order did you see it?
The 341 and 342 and both the same 255 pump . The only difference between the 341 and 342 is the location of the outlet port.
@@themechanic6117 i see there all just as good, i meant if i were to order that part i would order the 341 walbro if i use original assembly or what is it called?
Order the 341 if your using the original honda fuel pump assembly. I'm using a aftermarket delphi assembly, that's why I need the 342
very insiteful
I would have kept the Delphi pump , walbro is stupid loud.
This is a daily driver. I need the better pump for bigger injectors

Thats was quick lol
My crx had the same fuel leaking issues. Turns out the fuel filter washers were bad. Ordered oem ones and its dry as a bone. Part # 90428-PD6-003
