New Fuel Pump - amzn.to/2AQPlRV
A complete DIY on how to remove and replace the gas tank, fuel pump, and fuel sending unit for any 88-91 Honda Civic or CRX. I purchased the tank from ebay seller "bobsclassicchevy" for $89.45 shipped. This was the cheapest price I had found online and the tank fit perfect.
This job can be a little time consuming but isn't too difficult and doesn't require any fancy tools. You will need to be able to remove the seat bottom cushion for the hatchback, wagon, and sedan or cargo box if you have a CRX but that is very easy. It took me about 7 hours total from start to finish and I took my time making sure I did not forget anything. The car started up on the first try and I did not have any problems at all.

FRIKIN AWESOME VIDEO!!! Clear instruction, good picture quality and NO SILLY STUPID loud music. You rock bud. Pls keep em coming.
Thank you!
You know how to make vids. Simple, to the point, simple terminology, explain orientation. Could almost do the work with audio only! Great job! Thank you. I liked and subscribed
This helped me tremendously. Just swapped out my fuel pump on my 91 DX hatch I'm restoring. The tip on the fuel strainer was a life saver!
You make it look easy, took me 5 hours just for the fuel pump. And hear shield was a pain.
Recently got a 91 dx from a one owner 80 year old lady. It only has 150k kms. Grateful for your channel and all the walkthroughs!!! Thanks a million! Wish I lived in Texas so I could bring it to you!
That's awesome, wish the same. It's always fun working on someone's car!
Garage Built Hondas yo! Where in Texas are you this place is huge 👀
El Paso
Garage Built Hondas dang man I’m all the way in San Marcos lol it’d be pretty cool to take a CRX out there and work on it with you I don’t much about repairing cars but I found a beautiful crx that needs a new fuel pump and tank that I have my eye on I just need a little more money and she’ll be mine 🤤😻
Awesome! I have a buddy in San Antonio that has a b16 crx. Maybe if you get this one you can link up with him. He knows quite a bit
I’ve watched this video multiple times thank you for making me UA-cam mechanic certified
Thank you for posting this. I need to do this on my 1990 CRX this weekend.
No one has any excuses for not being able to do things while UA-cam exists big ups
Thanks for the video. I did my 89 Civic today.
Glad to help!
Wow. I never knew how different the wagons were from the other models lol. Everything is accessible from inside the car in my wagovan. Extremely helpful video though
I wasn't aware of that on wagons. Thought all 4th gen civics had no access to the fuel pump from the rear interior, good to know.
Hunter, could you confirm what year wagon you have? I need to replace my fuel pump in my 89 wagovan, and I was also under the impression that you needed to drop the tank. Could you access the fuel pump from under the seat?? Thanks!!
Hi Jon it's hadden vladamir III on my wife's phone and watching your fuel tank and fuel pump removal and replacement video and wanted to post a cool and helpful tip....on both my sedan and ef hatchback I had replaced my fuel tanks and took the opportunity to prime the tank with hi heat primer then duplicolor bed coating as a protection from the elements.....part 1
Nice!
Great tutorials as always. Very explanatory and not rushed. I've learned so much from your channel to restore my '91. Keep it up! Ohh and more videos of unfinished road racing! 😉
Thanks Kevin!! I hope to have some more made soon! I was out at the track this past weekend and I'll have a short video up soon!
7 years still helping
Really like this guys video !!! Pickup tube was key to helping my situation thanks for all the hard work filming these vids !!! cheers from canada
Glad to help
You made that look a lot easier than it is. Loll. I just changed my fuel pump in my 91 REX Si. Filler neck hose and putting the tank back in the front clip was a bitch! Thank you for your video tho. Helped me out. 👍🏼
It really is for the first time. I guarantee it gets easier every time. Now I'm a pro after doing at least 10 since this video came out. 👍
Another phenomenal video Jon. thanks man. Keep em coming. You have no idea how many people you help with these videos. They extend past people watching them.
Wow, such a nice comment and I really appreciate it!! Thank you so much!
+Jon Widmer yeah man. I love all your videos. I try to leave some appreciation everytime.
👍🏻
this would have been helpful about 3 weeks ago when I put that exact same fuel pump in my 91 crx haha! good video man
Haha, darn it! I was too late! I'm sure you're an expert now though!!
haha yeah got it on lockdown
at 4.49 min: On right side of tank, looks like a baby lizard popping his head up checking out all the commotion.
Very detailed walkthrough on this procedure, keep up the great work and I hope you continue to share videos !
Thanks, will do!
Watched this like 20 times and I took care of the job. Thanks J 🤙
Awesome!!!
I just want to point something out that may help someone in the future, as this happened to me. I followed this video step by step and other various fourms to install my new 255lph fuel pump into my ef hatch, and after everything was set up and ready to go, the car wouldnt start. Doubting my mechanical skills i took everything apart again but still everything looked fine, at a complete loss and after hours of searching I came across a couple "no-start" main relay fixes, swapped the relay from my doner car and what do you know? Starts on a dime, what are the chances? Anyways, great informational video, a definite thumbs up from this guy!
Thanks so much for the input! It's great to hear what fixes other peoples problems. I can't tell you how many times I've done double work similar to you only to find it be something so simple! Were you shaking your head at how easy it was to get to and replace/repair the MFR?
Garage Built Hondas 100%! although funny enough after I got it started and ran it for a bit I lifted the tank back up and tightened everything, all ready to go and what do you know? No start! 😂 im even more stumped now, multi-metered the relay and everything checks out, checked all wires and even tried the bypass wire in the harness and nothing! Such a pain this civy of mine 😫
KeySho What did you end up finding wrong?
@@Keyorisho Did you check fuses?
@@hecks_b_rex Yes, fuses checked out. I double checked almost everything I could think of.
Huge fan of this tear down and it helped me last year with getting my Y49 to run again! I'm currently running issues with putting the Filler Neck Hose back on, and I found the part(17651-SH3-000)0 is discontinued so I'm having to use a universal fuel hose and cut it to size, but I'm still worried it's going to kink a little.
I think my next step is to completely drop the tank again and place the hose onto the tank and then left it back up and place it on the Filler Neck Pipe second.
Awesome Channel!
Thanks James. There isn't much bend to that hose so I think you'll be ok with a universal one. As it's on there, it'll slowly conform anyway as long as you don't leave too much slack for it to bind.
Garage Built Hondas I’ve loosened the clamp around the filler hose but it’s not budging. Any tricks?
Spray it down with a lubricant and use different sets of pliers
13:40 I made this exact mistake and I get to do it all over again. Don’t be like me guys!
Thanks for the info!
THANKYOU BRO!!!!!! For Answering my question? THANK THE LORD!!!!! ! Bro I HAVE A 1991 HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK ..... EVERY TIME MY GAS TANK GET HALFWAY MY CAR WOULD GO DEAD ...WHEN IM APPROACHING A RED LIGHT...A STOP SIIGN OR... WHEN IM SLOWING DOWN TO EXIT THE FREEWAY... BASICALLY ANYTIME I I'M ABOUT TO SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A STOP. ..BUT AS LONG AS I WAS ROLLING IN A STEADY PACE OR GEAR I WAS GOOD....BUT AS SOON AS I SLOW DOWN TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF ON ME EVERYTIME. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THIS PROBLEM OUT EVERY SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR . I'VE BEEN HAVING IT FOR 2 YEARS NOW!......MATTER OF FACT I THINK THAT'S WHY THE GUY WHO SOLD IME THIS CAR SOLD IT TO ME...LOL..! BECAUSE WHEN HE SOLD IT TO ME THE HAD I FULL TANK OF CF GAS!🙂 I ALSO HAVE A 1989 HONDA HATCHBACK CIVIC BUT THAT CAR DOESN'T DO THAT.....ONLY MY 1991 ! I also have a 1994 HONDA DEL SOL....IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE GREAT WISDOM KNOWLEDGE OR UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THESE HONDA'S OR CARS...... PLEASE.....! SHARE. ! I'M A SUBCRIBER NOW... THANKS AGAINS BRO!🙂
Awesome man!! That's such an annoying problem, it took me a little bit to figure it out but found some info online and mine was the same!!
Check out some of my other videos, I have a ton of 88-91 Civic/crx content and will continue to make more!!!
Thanks for subbing and tagging along!!
This is most insightful! I have a 2001 honda civic coupe, and after getting my map sensor and 02 sensors installed, I still kept smelling gas fart. Also I think that my front passenger side tire rim is bent or something...the car pulls to the right (whatever). Anyway, after watching this vid, I think I'll just buy another car and put my civic in the backyard until further notice. Thanks dude!! ★★★★
I got a 89 Honda prelude I have to change the gas pump is that also in the tank so that mean I have to bring the tank down????
+Manuelmmmzmskssnmsn mmmsmak Galvez Not unless you have the door under the rear seat. I bet it's the same as this being similar design because of the same years.
Garage Built Hondas well is 1989 Honda prelude si 2.0 n under the back sits there is 2 round silver lids
+Manuelmmmzmskssnmsn mmmsmak Galvez I would check under both, you might have access there.
My pump just kicked it glad I found u! Great video bro thanks for all the tips and what to look for on angle and correct pump! Will come in handy! 👍 👍 👍
Awesome, I'm glad the video will help!! 👍
GREAT VIDEO! STEP BY STEP PROCCES AND VERY DETAIL LIKE IT SHOULD BE. I HAVE A 1991 CIVIC HATCH WHICH IS MY BABY. I TRYING TO BUY A SKUNK PRO MANIFOLD BUT I CANT FIND A VIDEO LIKE YOURS!!!! KEEP IT UP!
Thank you!! I have a video of the Skunk2 manifold on a B series if that helps! ua-cam.com/video/sp8WzmR3QYw/v-deo.html
@@GarageBuiltHondas Thanks for the reply, however I have stock engine on my 91 DX hacth.
You'll have to convert to MPFI first and then you'll be able to use a Skunk2 manifold made for the D series engine.
@@GarageBuiltHondas thank you so much for the help.
You're welcome
Any idea why fuel would over flow through the gas cap/near the filler neck? Gas cap is fine, tried aftermarket and brand new OEM cap, still does same thing. Tank holds pressure for very long time if that means anything. Happens when tank is full/somewhat full and park the car. I’ll come back out and see fuel dripping out near the top of the filler neck/where the cap is. Smells like gas inside the car as well. Been happening for a while, so tired of this shit.
Those chunks of rubber mostly prevent noise. I use a couple where it rubs, but if it's mounted tighly it won't move around much.
Attempted this today, but had to stop due to rain. Tomorrow is clear weather. Unfortunately my pump went out right after I filled up. So after cracking that 14 line nut 🔩 I had fuel leaking. (Which I figured would happen) tried to siphon the gas from the gas filler, but feels like my siphon line is bottoming out before it makes it to the fuel. Anyways, I'll just have to pull the drain plug tomorrow... Great video man!
Good luck, the tank is so heavy with a lot of gas in it too. I'd tried to drain it too, but save as much as possible.
@@GarageBuiltHondas the weather cleared up so I pulled the sending unit out and siphoned the gas into two 5gallon plastic tanks. It got dark, so tomorrow I'll be finishing her up!
@@GarageBuiltHondas completed the job just now and filled about 5 gallons back into the tank (via gas cap/filler) connected everything back up. I hear the 2 clicks from the main relay which is good... Right? At the same time I hear the fuel pump prime... I cranked it about 5 times. (Holding for 5 to 10 sec each time) and no start. Should I put the other 5 gallons in the tank? Maybe through the sending unit opening? How quick should it start up after replacing what you did in the video? Guess I'll check the manual to see if I'm fuel to the fuel rail. Thanks again for all your help and the time you take to make these videos. I appreciate it.
The extra gas won't help unless your fuel pump filter isn't sitting right. I'd do what you mentioned.
@@GarageBuiltHondas UPDATE::: I committed the ultimate sin of not checking for Fuel, air, spark, combustion FIRST. After replacing the fuel tank, fuel pump, distributor, and main relay I still didn't have spark. I went to test the coil at the dizzy, noticed the rotor wasn't spinning... I knew what time it was. Busted timing belt. Smh... All I can do now is pray to the honda Gods that the valves aren't bent. Sourcing parts for this JDM D15B 3 stage vtec is always fun... anyways, lesson learned. Basics first. Time to wrench and pray.
Also if the fuel tank padding isn't salvageable here is a cool trick order some extreme sound dynamic padding from summit or jegs or cruchfield with self adhesive backing and cut to fit where needed.....it worked great for me and very inexpensive....part 2
That's sounds smart, I've used that product before and it seems like it would work perfect.
Thanks GBH for a great video install... just install a new fuel in my wagon... the strainer was different from the the delphi I order from autozone, so I just install the one I got with my fuel pump... it don’t have the bag so hopefully the car don’t become a horror story like the others haha... but wanted to say this video help out...
Great to hear! Glad it helped you get it done! Gotta keep them on the roads!
Nice vid man! I wish this was posted before I paid to have my fuel pump replaced.
Thanks man, sorry I didn't do one sooner. 😁
when i first bought my hatchback a month passed and the fuel pump went out worried about taking it to just any mechanic I had it towed to the Honda dealership i dont even want to tell you how much i paid 😂😢😭😭 and knowing is half the battle
Thanks! You are a CRX pioneer. I'm waiting for that fuel pump to come today through Amazon Prime. Meanwhile, getting the fuel out of the tank is nasty. I tried to go old school and syphon it out with a hose and me sucking on the other end. Ended up with a moth full of gas ( I didn't swallow). headed Auto Zone for a Fuel syphon pump. Thanks again.
You're welcome, glad this helped!
Update, It wasn't my fuel pump. It was the ECU fuse and ECU. I have a bad ECU so it wouldn't prime my fuel pump. Nonetheless, I don't have to worry about the fuel pump.
What did you do with the O ring that came with the fuel pump. When I replaced my fuel pump I seen it but didn't know where it went so I just left it out.
Which O-RING?
when you buy the fuel pump it comes with a short hose, two clamps and a black o ring. its in your video
Do me a favor, what minute mark is it at?
how long was the job to do
1st time - 3-4 hours.
Jon Widmer that's not bad at all I have a k series hatch I need change fuel pump before start her up and inspect tank inside for rust
Luis Cotto very nice, it's not too hard of a change over. Got vids of your car? Is it an Ef!
Hi Jon. I replaced the fuel pump and gas tank and still can't get it to star. What do you think it's wrong with my crx. The fuel pump and gas tank had rust all over.
Had it been running before? Has it been sitting for a long time?
Justin Vargas main relay
It's enough to say run the gasoline out to lighten the tank. You could point out that gasoline weighs about six pounds per gallon, so five gallons in the tank weighs a little over 30 pounds and ten gallons in the tank a little over 60 pounds and full is about 90 pounds.
"Kilmat 80 mil" from Amazon is the vibration dampener to glue onto the tank. It comes in packs of 12" x 18" pieces which can be cut to any lesser size. Way too much talk about the vibration dampener pads on the tank. You already said it was the level sensor.
NEVER use crimp connectors! They will always corrode and fail to conduct. Solder and insulate with several layers of heat shrink.
Thanks for all the great info! ❤️
Now i have room for some stuff ;)
Nice demonstration, sir i wanna raise some questions, does a defective fuel pump cause engine jerking and Eratic rpm ,hoping for your answer ,thanks
It can. Test and verify fuel pressure to know how the pump is performing.
I was pretty loyal to auto zone but once I got 3 wrong wheel bearings for my tsx from 3 different stores i gave up on them, i stick to O'Reilly and auto plus or dealership depends on what I'm buying
I hear ya. I always go prepared to parts stores these days because many times I seem to know more than the ones helping me.
Question: Does the gas tank shield need to be removed in order for the gas tank to be dropped, or can it remain intact?
It doesn't need to be removed.
@@GarageBuiltHondas Thank you! Good to know.
2:50 are you pushing the key 14 forward (down) or pulling it backwards (toward yourself-up).
I don't know which way to turn the key 14.
this moment is missing from the video.
i have to replace the gas tank on my 2000 civic si do you think the steps would be the exact same please let me know
Exactly the same, probably not 100%. But probably very similar. There may be a few different lines by now, I've never changed one on that kind of car. Good luck
Hey John, the fitting you used the 14mm flared wrench on the fuel line stripped pretty bad on me and I can’t take it out. Would you have an idea on how to fix this ?
Did you message me on Instagram?
On the mission im on now. Aem 310 pump. Have to get the fuel line that goes to the tank , then shud be done. Thanks for the assistance. #GcEfs.
im struggling hella with the filler neck and the hose next to it theres no room to pull it off any advice or tips to take it off

Anyone know why my 88 EF sedan only has 3 wires and not 4? I can't seem to find the whole assembly with 3 wires because they are all 4 plug. The pump hanger I bought said it would work but wouldn't even fit in my tank. Please help... thanks.
The 88s are a little different. The ground wire comes fire off it and goes to the body of the car on the 88s.
Did this replacement tank come with a drain plug? I do not see one on the page and I want to buy a new tank but I only want one with a drain plug.
No it did not.
Cool video. I cam here because I have an issue with my 1991 CRX SI. It has happened twice, a few days apart. Both times, I parked the car for a few minutes. First time, I stopped at a gas station. I shut off car and put in full tank. Then I got into car. It started and stalled. I cranked it again. It started and then stalled. Third time, it started and I was good for the rest of the day. Now, today, I drove 40 miles, parked car and went into store. Slight incline. I started car. It started then, died. It started then died. It started and I got it home. I stopped the car at the house. Then, I started it and no problem. It's been sitting for 30 minutes now. I went out and started it three times, each time being ok. Ideas? Maybe fuel pump going out?
Yup. Pressure test the system/pump. ua-cam.com/video/i9t9OapKffg/v-deo.html
My crx gas needle on the cluster isnt working. Its always pointing up to the "full" position. What do you think is causing it?
Either broken sending unit or gauge cluster.
Great video! And may the car lords be with you.👍💪🙏
Thank you 🙌
Can you put 2008 civic si fuel tank into the crx ? I have civic si tank sitting I was wondering
Ayrobk20 lol no probably not
can I ask.. why did you decide to change the tank? was it damaged in some kind of way? thanks.
Yes, it was damaged.
Why are you replacing the gas tank ? Just have it cleaned at a radiator shop just as good as new. ?? Great instructional video !
Mine had damage and a small leak.
I’m about to buy a bone stock 1988 crx off of my friend I’m excited i love these cars ever since i was a kid
+Daniel ST Lucky!! They are so tough to find clean and stock
I got a D16a6 swapped HF in 8/10 interior condition 8/10 mechanical condition and 7.5/10 body condition for $2750 in Long Beach California. I've seen some for a better deal but I was tired of driving hours to drive lemons and walk away'
that sounds like a really fair price for the condition you've described!
Garage Built Hondas thank you man as soon as its painted ill post a video and start documenting its journey!
Amazing quality video
Thank you Xben!
I have an 88 civic that's leaking gas. I replaced the fuel pump gasket and sending unit gasket and lock ring. It's still leaking gas. All my lines are fine and the drop seems to be coming from the purge unit. Anyone know where I can get one?
Try hondapartsunlimited.com and see if they still sell them new.
john, thanks for making this vid. I just bought a 91' EF SI in TGP and its leaking gas by tank. unfortunately I found out after I filled it since I didn't leak at half tank.
James Rentas you're welcome!!
where could i get new gas tank i guess amazon doesent sell it any more if anybody know where to buy one i would bi well apriciated thx david from europ
I'd keep searching around online everywhere. If you have local parts stores, give them a call. We can buy them locally usually also
Great video John
+Richard Cowtails thanks Richard!
Hey , do you know if the 89 civic wagon FWD gas tank is the same for hatch and sedans?
I don't believe it's remotely close with how the exhaust tunnel is.
I can’t find any of the hoses I’m missing the red thing( not sure what it’s called), I’m missing the 2 filler tubes
And the hard lines that are bolted to the tank. How can I find these parts I have everything else ready to go
You can get hoses at your local auto parts store. They'll have some similar in size. Honestly I have no idea what the red thing is called. I believe it's a fuel vapor valve of some sort.
@@GarageBuiltHondas fuel 2 way valve (discontinued) 😞 I’ll check out why the part store has
I'm sure the same valve from a different model will work as long as it functions the same.
Great video! good tips on the install.
Thank you
Bro u can probably save me big time so i have a 1995 integra and in the middle of my seats i see the fuel pump but it gots no arm level so my friend told me i have to drop the tank because the sender unit level is there is it true because my gas gauge dont work? Please let me know
He is correct. Buy him a beer.
Dam really thanks bro really means alot , is it hard to replace and how much is it?
Not if you're mechanically inclined. If you never touched a tool, it'll take a little longer. No idea on price, you'll have to look.
Garage Built Hondas oh ok so do i need to buy the whole sender unit right or only the arm?
Garage Built Hondas so i checked and i cant find any for integras 1995 but i saw a 1995 civic that looks like yours would it fit on mines or they arent the same?
Noob Where does the second red hose from the purge "container" connect to? Thx
I do not recall man, is it not in the video?
I think I'm about to do this on my 89 CRX I just bought. It won't start, it's been sitting for 6 years. I don't hear the fuel pump come on and I don't have spark. Where did you get the pump and sending unit?
From eBay. I didn't replacing the sending unit though. I re-used my old one.
Garage Built Hondas Thank you. Love the video. My sending unit does work, I have a half a tank of gas!!
I have a 92 Integra and was wondering if a 88 - 91 civic/crx suspension would fit my car?
It fits, but if I remember correctly the shocks will be shorter than the 90-93 Integra shocks. It depends on the complete setup that you are using.
Alright thank you for the quick reply.
awesome Dude...>>>!!! thanks for these videos... very pro....! ....DR
You're welcome!
At 1:25 your remove that Assm. What if it is just some fuel lines that connect down what looks like into the tank.
The CRX SI and DX have a 11.9 galllon tank right? I have a 88 CRX HF with a 10.6 gallon tank, but only the 11.9 seems to be available as a replacement part. It should fit the HF model right?
Yes
@@GarageBuiltHondas that’s weird they made a different tank for the hf even though the other one still fits.
Smaller, less weight when full for the HF to achieve the MPGs it did.
Good job thanks
Welcome 😊
just curious why did you change tank. going forward with the new tank, how will you drain the tank if you need to work on tubes and all?
I dented it at the track and it was leaking. It had previous dents also but the latest sprung a small leak.
It has the drain plug still, I could drain it and work on the tubes if needed.
Could you perhaps provide me part numbers for the right Fuel Pump for my 90 SI EF Hatch? I have the D16A6 motor and like you described, my hatch has the same issue with acting as though it has no gas when the gas gauge still shows about half way full. It's been driving me crazy for almost a year and I'm wanting to make sure all the part information I purchase is correct before taking it to a shop.
I've had a feeling it was the fuel pump for several months now that were causing the idle issues, and sometimes having issues starting on hot/cold days, and bogging at higher speeds.. but yesterday was the first time the fuel pump starting whining which made me ready to get everything needed to replace. Would love to do the whole gas tank as well.
Thanks in advance! Video was helpful
I don't have the part # for the pump. Where do you want to buy your pump from?
Garage Built Hondas no preference I just know my car is having the exact same issue as what you described with the tank acting like it is completely empty even though there is almost a half tank
Ok I’m attempting to drop the tank to change the fuel pump but I’m stuck at step one, getting the plastic Phillips screws off the plastic cover ! Either the plastic screw stripped or the screw just spins. I noticed your vid skipped that part and the cover was magically off.
Hold the circular part with your finger, then use a screwdriver to get the plastic screw out.
Help pls!! On my Honda Civic EX 2000, where do I find the FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR??
On the top of the gas tank. It should be located close to the fuel pump access location.
thanks
Very helpful, thank you.
You're welcome, glad to help!
Do you have any videos on how to remove and clean or replace DPFI injectors? I have a 89 DX Sedan that has been sitting a while and want to clean or change injectors.
I do not. Personally I would remove them and take them to a local injector shop or shipped to a shop and have them professionally cleaned and flow balanced.
Which is positive and which is ground on the wires
hi bro i am from indonesia, where did you buy the gas tank? and how much is it
I originally bought this one off of eBay for $100.
this video made me wanna change my tank from my wagovan
kendrick Lamar lol, if it doesn't need it, then I'd leave it alone. If your upgrading the pump, then a replacement of the tank would be best to do it at that time.
Jon Widmer thanks for the heads up brotha ...
lmao all of the 14mm flange wrenches where sold out at my auto parts stores within 50 miles :(
Wow, from hoarding TP to 14mm wrenches. 😁
are the fuel sending and return lines the same size on the EFs?
Yes, you can see them traveling alongside the driver floor board close to the door.
Just wanted to ask i replaced my fuel pump on my 91 crx i have the same model fuel pump that you have but im getting little to no fuel up at the filter just little drops would that be the lines or maybe i did something wrong ?
Check the filter sock. It might be pressed up against the tank.
If you have a P1456 code (not the gas cap) what else could the problem on the fuel tank what other evap components could of gone bad beside a actual fuel leak
Taken from the web "the code or DTC P1456 is caused by a leak on the tank side of the evaporative system, and the most common cause is a loose or missing gas cap, but it could also mean a leak in the fuel tank, or one of the tubes or hoses."
Do you have to remove the gas tank just to change the fuel pump?
Dsm_Kenny Unfortunately yes on these cars.
My return line that’s held on by the two 10mm bolts turns out I stripped the threads and I can’t seem to find a new one any where!! And it’s leaking Any help?
I don't know if they make them brand new. Best bet is a junkyard or find someone parting out an 88-91 Civic/crx.
How do I know if the ECU it's working. Do you think it's the ECU?
+Justin Vargas probably not. Once you turn the key in the ignition, the led on the ecu will blink on/off real quick letting you know it's working.
Garage Built Hondas. Thanks John. The ECU light only blinks once
Hello, can't seem remove the 14mm gas tank line on my 91 honda crx its really rusted. Any other trick to remove it. Thanks
Not really. Spray some lubricant on it and let it soak for a while. Then use an extension and a small hammer and tap on it gently to help possibly free somr of the rust and corrosion which is holding it stuck. Just try to not strip it. Are you using a line wrench?
Hello thank for getting back at me, yes i sprayed and let it soaked and even bought the 14mm line wrench and no luck. Im giving up don't know what else to do.
06:45 I need that purge valve. I know the part number but in my country there is no way i can find that. Do you know any alternatives for that? Is there a way to repair it? Because of that i have many problems with fuel. I need your help guys.
I'm sure a different valve from a different car would work. It's remotely mounted so there's got to be something similar which would work.
Where did you get your fuel tank? None of my regular parts suppliers have them. Also is it possible to shift the tank over a tiny bit? My new exhaust hits my gas tank on the front right corner the sound is irritating at cruising speed.
I bought it off of eBay. It was around $90 shipped from a seller in Phoenix. Someone posted in a comment below that he doesn't sell them anymore though but that was a while back. There really isn't any room to shift it over. It kind of fits in one spot. You might get away with like 1/2" possibly.
You ever change a pump an have your return lines under the hood blow off?
No I haven't.
What is the part number for the walbro did u put? Since u using the original fuel pump assembly

Wht are the fuel lines that go to the engine bay from the tank?
The feed and return lines.
hey man great vid! I have a quick question and hope you can help. I started my car(1991 hatch) early in the morning and it iddled for like 5 sec and it stalled and just wont turn on again. I no longer hear the fuel pump buzz when i switch the key is it the fuel pump for sure? need the help and appreciate your video man
It kind of sounds like it. You may also want to try to Main Fuel Relay first. It's located under the dash on the far left driver side right above the hood release.
Jon Widmer okay man thankyou
Hello I was wondering if the civic wagons use a different fuel sending unit compared to sedan or hatchback thank you. Also would you advice getting one from the junkyard?
My guess I the they are the same, along with the fuel pump. A junkyard one might work just fine. I'd use it if it's inexperienced because those are easy to change. No dropping of the tank is required.
Would any type of heat shrink work?
I didn't use anything out of the ordinary, just the normal type for wiring. If there is an upgraded alternative, that would probably work even better.
Why couldnt they just make the hole larger inside the car so the pump can be removed without dropping tank?
Yup. Who knows what the engineers were thinking at the time.
I dont understand how the pump cant be removed from inside the vehicle??? Why do you have to drop the whole tank
Edit: ok now i see it. Sending unit is right on top, pump is on the back of tank. Thank you honda for making us work more than necessary
Lol. The worst thing about these cars is having to drop the tank to access the pump.
I'm having a ton of trouble finding the fuel pump hanger assembly for a 1989 CRX, is it the same as 90 or 91? I can't find one that's specific to 89
All 88-91 are the same, except the wagon
@@GarageBuiltHondas I see, the wiring seems to be slightly different though
