It would be SO AWESOME to have a really good, GoT-style series of these characters. Unsure if Disney would be willing or able to pull that off. You’re right on though - would be amazing.
Are 10 episodes still good with all the story they're teasing? It looks really packed like there's: - the Gambit resurrection as Apocalypse's horseman - the fate of (feral) Wolverine without his adamantium - Scott and Jean meeting their future daughter and young Nathan (reversed Messiah Complex?) - the other half of the main cast stuck in ancient Egypt during Rise of Apocalypse - Forge/Bishop possibly forming the New Mutants era - Emma Frost being recruited as a teacher and member - Storm & Morphs mysterious whereabouts
I'm glad Grace appreciates X2 too. X2 had the world, the rules and the characters established from the 1st one, which was also good. So X2 was "let's play" with what was established. A few new characters into the franchise with pivotal roles, the alliance with Magneto and his switch back, the human problem, the cruel Striker, played convincingly by Brian Cox, Pyro changing teams, Nightcrawler, Lady Deathstrike, etc. I felt like I was watching the 90s cartoon
This really is the best X- Men we had in a long time. Including comics, shows, and movies. Love how the creators were able to take the source materials, simplify it, update it, and bring in so much more depth. The ppl who worked on this show love X- Men, its themes, and messages. They never underestimated its audience and kept it real. The action ♥️ The dialogue ♥️ The one liners ♥️ Characters leveling up♥️ Cameos ♥️ Easter eggs ♥️
So in the OG series Magneto discovered Wanda and Pietro in the episode Family ties. Iceman had his own episode looking for Polaris who joined XFactor in the episode Cold Comfort.
It's insane to me that no one is watching this show. It's incredible and one of the best iterations of X-Men. I was never a fan of the original show. They should have released it as a binge, more people could have watched it.
Neither has Invincible, Family Guy, Simpsons, Young Justice, Harley, ...so who is really nobody? Epsiode 5 has been submitted for an Emmy nomination according Variety.
Remember Grace this is a continuation of the original animated series and it’s there we first meet Iceman, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. My first ever episode of the XTAS was the one of them discovering Magneto is their father
I also loved the parallels between found brotherhood and sisterhood that highlights Jean and Storm then Xavier and Magneto. One with psychic powers the other white haired able to control earthly elements to their will. Brilliant.
You need to rewatch the original X-Men animated series because Magneto does know about Pietro and wanda. And Polaris appeared in an episode along with X-Factor and Iceman.

Grace, Selene Gallio is actually the oldest Mutant currently alive. She was born during Cave Man era and she and Apocalypse are friends and interract several times.
She hasn't appeared in the original TAS run when the Dark Phoenix was being controlled by the Hellfire Club (she played a role in the comics) so she might not even exist in this animated universe...
@phillconklin382 she is kind of a psychic vampire with telepathic and telekinetic powers but moves things by imbuing them with her lifeforce and can only move inorganic things. She's also a very powerful magic user and can give some of the big ones in marvel a run for the hills. She's also essentially immortal (an External) partly down to her power and life force stealing. She's very evil
Grace do yourself a favor and rewatch the of series because they’ve already done apacolyspe right. He was in the show for multiple episodes and was the season 4 finale arc. Which is why everyone has been expecting him, also the shots we normally see in the openings are images from episodes in the og series
To be honest, I didn't really like how TAS handled Apocalypse. He seemed to be defeated so easily and just kinda gave up after being overpowered. Angel/Archangel story arc was also kinda botched because it felt rushed in TAS. Like Angel was a full-time X-men member in the comics and had actual ties and relationships with the team but in the show he was like a temporary guest cameo so it didn't feel as strong when he ended up betraying the X-men for Apocalypse.
Not only have they don’t apocalypse in the original series.. one of the promos for this series heavily features all over the place features a line from the episode 1 where Wolverine asks Jean is Apocalypse coming.
Some of Grace’s gaps are bewildering to me. They also mention Apocalypse in the first episode of X-men 97’. A heavily featured line said by Wolverine that ended up being one of the better jokes of the entire series.
Aside some comic runs, like the Emma Frost origin story, early Krakoa, A.X.E., Astonishing, the Rogue parts of X-Men Legacy, Season One, Grand Design, X-Factor Vol. 3., or some parts of Utopia, yeah! Best storytelling since Claremont was forced to leave, over 30 years ago.
This show illustrates what love for your work looks like, and I WISH executives would invest more in creatures. Just like what Corden Jefferson was talking about.
I don't think morph can copy powers but can copy the physicality of the person he's being for example he can run fast because he's quick silver but can't read minds because he's jean.
Thank you so much Grace for this breakdown. This is so so so… AMAZING! The show literally was such a great show. The finale was the best. A lot of great things happening. I don’t know why they fired the producer do… It’s so crazy because this truly was amazing. So I hope they didn’t fire him because of some BS. I truly hope that they can keep the core of this season to for next season, so there’s not gonna be no confusion or silliness going on. It was just such a great X-Men 97 is everything
I swear, Grace, you keep me hooked with your content whether I agree with them or not(a true fan). The Hercules, Northstar & IceMan storylines prove it. You're the only one who's brought that back to the forefront. Good stuff 👏
Did anyone notice that the Phoenix force manifestation is blue water and not yellow fire??? And her Phoenix costume is not shown. But from the silhouette, upswept hair and eye-fire, she looks like the Phoenix from Grant Morrison and Marc Silvestri alternate universe of Here Comes Tomorrow!!
I think that you are amazing and I love how well you articulated the depth and complexity of of the X-men where we all see glimpses of our own stories told. Big kudos to you!
What Scott said to Wolverine totally redefined my perspective for the character. The twist in that famous line turned him From a killing machine to a survivor. That´s good writing. Powerfull and concise.
What really surprises me about the show is that each character had something to contribute. Many shows have a big cast but they don't know what to do with them. Not X-Men 97.
I'm OK with Morph having romantic feelings for Wolverine (if that's what the Jean scene was meant to imply), but Wolverine cannot reciprocate. It'd kill the show. Simply because most fans don't want that for Wolverine. So, if they do go there, they have to make it an unrequited love story and then have Morph find somebody else while Logan and he remain friends.
That attitude of sticking it to the fans never works out well for a show or its creators. Do you really want X-Men '97 to die on that hill when it's receiving so much praise?
Grace, I need you to drop right at 4am cause I kept searching for you video for hours. I only prefer your videos because everyone else gets off topic with their selling.
The season ended with a great cliffhanger, in my opinion. At least enough to stoke some interest in what happened to the main cast as well as foreshadowing new villains/allies. Amazing end to season 1! Disney should really reconsider hiring Beau De Mayo back for season 3 so as not to derail this fantastic momentum to the series.
Please Grace, could you do a "What's Next" video? Talking about next season possible characters, speculation about storylines, a possible Spider-Man 99 (Maybe including his amazing *mutant* friends: Iceman and Firestar? 👀), what could happen to Beau deMayo considering the great reception, and what effect this series could have on the MCU's X-Men: Inspirations and takeaways? Thank you for the great work!
Had a great time watching this show. Never watch the original or read any comics. Sometimes it was confusing but videos like these help fill in the gaps.
Bastion took Cables arm which contains the time bube thing, which he presumably intergrated within himself when he gave himself an upgrade. He even did a speudo bodyslide while fighting Rogue. So for me he 100% just body slid who knows where and is not dead
The animation style this season (clean lines, symetrical), the X-Men's look and costumes I feel is totally modeling itself after Paul Smith's X-Men run (one of my favorite artists, up there with John Byrne, Jim Lee, Mark Silvestri, Alan Davis, Arthur Adams) back in 1983 (The Brood, Lockheed, Madelyne Prior, Mastermind's revwnge wedding of Scott and Madelyne, Rogue, Valerie Cooper, etc.)....back when I first started reading Uncanny X-Men with issue 167.
Definitely the best thing to come out for X-Men. I truly loved how they took just about all the 90 shows to make cameos. I think the only one missed was the silver sufer.
It’s tough to insist now for sure. When it came out, it was one of the best comic movies ever made. By a lot. Again at the time, those elements were an achievement. It was BEFORE Spiderman 2 came out. So there really were no good comic book sequels at all on any level. Blade 2, Batman Returns and Superman 2 were the only things out there.
X2 was released around the time when the X-men and the Brotherhood first really got to work with each other both in the films and comics. It synergized really well, and the heroes working with villains haven't really been as prominent in cinema at the time.
@@DylanMadd i understand why back then, but even now people say it’s obviously the best x-men movie but i think it’s days of future past which has become one of the most underrated superhero films imo. i also think first class is becoming overrated just a lil

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this finale, and the series as a whole. Such great use of all the characters, it was so encouraging to see. It gave me hope that the X-Men can be done well going forward too, as long as you get a production team that loves them as we do.

At this rate, it looks like Deadpool & Wolverine will be the closest we can get to somewhat comics-accurate X-men on film.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this finale, and the series as a whole. Such great use of all the characters, it was so encouraging to see. It gave me hope that the X-Men can be done well going forward too, as long as you get a production team that loves them as we do.
You missed the Peter Parker and Mary Jane cameo, I love that 90’s look for both of them!❤
The future scene was also in Egypt. That’s why they made the point to put the pyramids in the back
Yeah I was like where is Storm !!
Would you consider doing reaction videos to shows and movies like this ?? Your reviews always make me wanna see how in real time reactions to stuff ! It’s so good
I already miss X Men weekly videos. Excellent content Grace.
Best work yet Grace! Excellent insight!
Great season and they actually stuck the landing and then some! Beau and Team should feel very proud of the work they put in!
This series has been a breath of fresh air for long time fans!! I’ve watched every episode multiple times now and it just gets better and better.
This is probably the most love and respect a project has given the original since maybe The Lord of the Rings.
I'm Just in love with the show and your breakdown. It was sooooo fun to follow, truly a big party.
this show was the BEST!!!! Thank for the coverage Grace!!!!
This show is so phenomenal, I just love it so much!! Thank you for the fantastic breakdowns, Grace!
I hope season 2 gives some cameo for the Celestial tech and Moon Knight basic origins, maybe even Rama-Tut
AoA was 4 months. I think you're thinking of Heroes Reborn, that was a year.
Jean became a firebender AND waterbender this episode. This Jean fan is very happy. ❤
The Phoenix isn’t actually fire. It’s more like charged atoms interacting with the air and the earth’s magnetism. It’s like an aurora borealis.
@@arc7375 technically the Phoenix force is the embodiment of all psionic energy and of life and passion for all that has, does, will ever exist. So I’m aware she’s not “fire” but a literal force. ‘‘Twas only a joke for us who like Avatar the last airbender.
@@Ri-Lizzie Technically, the Phoenix has no form at all. As you correctly said, the Phoenix is just a name given to a cosmic force that embodies all like that has existed, currently exists, and will ever exists.
It only is perceived as a fiery bird because a magician in ancient times, aware of the force’s existence, made it manifest in reality in a form he could comprehend, that being of a Phoenix.
exceeded my expectations! i actually was brought to tears. this show alone gave validity to super heroes in general! validity to the power of comics as not just entertainment but educational as through super heroics we can learn true humanity.
Beautiful breakdown, Grace!
