I'm gonna go against the grain - after having suffered through the latter seasons of things like the Arrowverse, I was extremely grateful for the quick storytelling and next to no filler. Straight to the point storytelling was a breath of fresh air.
I think there was something nice to not having them DRAGGGGG OUTTT storylines. I really liked them going "hey!!! Genosha was MEANT to be a total shock that felt like it came out of nowhere so that's where we're going with this." I do feel like it's a delicate balance of dragging storylines out yet rushing through storylines and they didn't quite accomplish it. But man it was good no matter what.
@@SAPANNow YES!! I absolutely would have tapped out if there were any more episodes like that. there weren't so that was good, but I just went yeah.... not necessary for that episode.
@@DAHamilton This channel doesn't understand the trend. A proper way would be to type X-Men '97 DESTROYS Modern MCU. To praise something, it's better to serve a comparison to something worse. More examples: Mad Max Furiosa DESTROYS Modern Hollywood. Among mid movies and shows, there is a star what shines so bright so to show it, contrast works best. In superhero movies there are always heroes and villains who are on the opposite sides and the more complex they are, the more exicitng to watch
@@Agrassyhandle Sure, but the movie just said "nah, that stuff didn't actually happen." Multiverse of Madness made Wandavision worse because now you know Wandavision doesn't matter.
@@PlaylistWatching1234This logic makes zero sense to me, like in WandaVizion she used her chaos energy to trap and entire small town in her head, while she recreated her husband and made her 2 kids. After the show was done she was not a good guy like she had just kidnapped an entire town and still didn’t have her family. In MoM we saw why she thinks she has kids, because she has them in every other dimension, only in 616 she is the Scarlett Witch, a Nexus being, so doesn’t have them in this universe, but that wasn’t going to stop her from trying to get them still. It all makes perfect sense and picks up right after another.
To any fans who are not watching X-Men 97 i say good riddance! Tired of salty fanboys and fangirls getting triggered over trivial issues. Because the reality is that the mutant narrative has always been about racism. Along with that, they have always dealt with all types of bigotry. So, I fail to see why some "fans" are upset with the context of the series. It is a truly amazing series that dealt with real-life issues.
Facts don’t want all the toxic people in comics ,comics has always been an escape from the real world and it’s problems but they have brought the real world and it’s issues to the world of comics and the movies and cartoons.
It's not specifically about racism, but prejudice in general. Nobody is upset with the context of the series. In modern times the disagreement has more to do with prescriptions. Prejudice exists, therefore we must enact these policies, or have such worldview concerning it. I can attest that in the 90's, prejudice was kind of an anachronism. It was considered to be almost done away with, therefore not much of a political issue.
The fact that a lot of ppl didn’t understand the real world themes that makes marvel and X-men in particular more compelling then the propaganda of dc is amazing . The X-men themes range from loud to me as a child as I had many of the same real world Conversations and struggles through various means . The conversation with sunspot and his family was all too familiar .
Nit picking at its finest. As a person who lived through the cash grab of the 90s- Bravo. Many of the story lines in the 90s didn't need to be as long as they were. I hated buying 15 different titles to follow one story. This medium is telling the story in a condensed way. Allowing new people to be vested while satisfying old readers. Mission accomplished.
Agree. It was a great to have a series not have a bunch of filler episodes to meet the series requirements. A lot of the stories from the 90's were drawn out and where nothing more than cash grabs. In my opinion this show is some of the best X-Men we have gotten in a long time.
Remember it broke me!!! When Magneto spoke German to Leach telling him don’t be afraid… man I cried ugly tears and then Rogue saying Suga I can’t feel you….that just did it for me.
Yes, and after his death in the show, I knew where it could be taken and called it. B. De Mayo's style isn't my preference but I cannot deny that the man is a true fan. That's a big difference from most of the writers Disney has employed over the past few years...Best writer they have had in half a decade and they fired him a week before the show aired... Throwing my hands up...We can't have nice things apparently..
Gambit’s death was the high point because the entire 90s series set the back story of Rogue and his relationship making it that much more heartbreaking. Gambit was a lot of people’s favorite character.
Honestly, for me, what really sold the show was episode 2. It was with Magento speech over the earth. Sure it wasn't action pack, but it had very strong dialogue. The way Magento describes how we should share this world was so impactful, like it was treating its audience as adults. Especially since it hits so close to home today. It was so similar to the Justice League ep, where batman was talking to Ace, very impactful with so little time.
Beau demayo , and his animated team deserves all the praise , and awards this year i hope when they make live action Xmen they learn from these writers ,and do it justice like the comics.
I'm going to disagree regarding the pace of the show being too fast. It was so refreshing to not have plotlines and story arcs stretched to the point of ceasing to care about them. It's the very frenetic pace of the show itself that gives it this manic, almost crazed energy that I love. It forces you to pay attention. I'm in the advanced class, though, being an old comic nerd. For those new to the media I imagine it may have been hard to follow. Now if it had not been so well written, the speed would have really worked against it.
There didn’t need to be any “fleshing out” for any character because we are literally revisiting every character we are already familiar with. All this was done in the original 90s animated show and this show is a continuation of that. If you want to have the odd episode that explores these characters further, you’ve got five seasons of content you can watch. This also the first time Marvel Studios were doing something like this so it makes sense they were skeptical going into it. That could be the reasoning behind only ten episodes. But at the end of the day even this is irrelevant because the storytelling within those ten episodes was perfect.
And this is the problem with the fandom today.. we literally just witnessed marvel’s highest rated show ever and we are sitting here nitpicking trying to find anything wrong with it. The show was amazing why can’t we just finally accept something for what it is and appreciate it?? The show was amazing! Just appreciate it man..
@@funkysam1345Properly it depends where you look, but on Rotten Tomatoes and imdb Daredevil ain't the highest rated, but X-Men 97 is: Daredevil RT: Critics = 92% / Audience 89% IMDB: 8.6/10 X-Men 97 RT: Critics = 98% / Audience = 94% IMDB: 9.0/10
Critique is fine, there's nothing wrong with analyzing something you like. The thumbnail was indeed click bait, but UA-cam is a tough gig. The content of the video I find completely uncontroversial.
To be fair comics notoriously draw out their stories to sell more copies. Just cause a story took 2 years irl for comics doesn't mean it needed to be that long. It's entirely possible to tell a story in 30mins.
Absolutely. That's exactly what I was thinking. For someone who hasn't read all these comic runs, it didn't feel rushed at all. They have to make an original story that fits the format.
Clearly understanding that explains why they feel a little salty they didn't get more of the show. I didn't mind the pace of the show but then again I'm not a comic book reader so they are coming from a different place then I have.
@@isaaclopez-eb6ygwell I’m a comic book reader who was around for the original stories and I quite enjoyed the pace. Let’s get to it and don’t assume they have 8 seasons ahead of them. And yes, Marvel needs to sell comics every month with annuals and specials, so the writers have to drag storylines out. Hell, if people actually went back and read those old books you’d find dangling subplots that went nowhere galore. That’s the nature of the business.
Is it? It would think somehting big like Magneto being a good guy would be worth even a season to explore. They don't even run into Brotherhood of Evil Mutants at all, let alone Mag's kids. You'd think they'd have some arguments with that. "Oh what, you're gonna be a good dad now? You gonna buy us ice cream and it's gonna be all peachy?".
@@CalciumChiefeh xmen always has dropped you in without explaining anything. Xmen 1 doesnt put the team together, the team is already together. Xmen generally "introduce" characters that everyone in the universe already knows... Then marvel back tracks and gives them an origin story

Not only did they improve the animation and by extension the action but something that hit me and I've seen no on notice is the sound design. The sound effects on this show are way better than the original and the show is way better for it. I completely agree with Ryan. I thought this show was nearly flawless and maybe the best thing Marvel has done next to Endgame. But as you said I thought the phoenix scene was like "we are throwing everything at you now" and a little bit "Phoenix Ex Machina" I really loved everything else about the show but I really hope they don't keep writing Pheonix as Jean Grey's finishing move.
@@reecewilliams8349 Thanks dude I'm about to check out their breakdown for this. To me the sound effects for the powers, the explosions and the background theme music is awesome and deserves credit.
@@dylanstack8710 agreed legend. Storms music gave me chills everytime and the different ways they used mophed versions of the original theme throughout was beautiful.
@@dylanstack8710Agree and should point out as an amateur sound designer and audio engineer myself, that Sound and Audio in general has taken leaps forward these past couple of years, and most won’t notice until they get like full surround and Dolby speakers because these movies and shows aren’t just coming with a stereo track but a full 3-D binaural surround track underneath as well.
Ummm Phoenix was literally foreshadowed since Episode 1 my guy. Madalyne/Jean talks about being Phoenix. Phoenix is in the literal intro for the show. Storm brings up to Jean how much seeing her as Phoenix and rise from the ashes inspired her. Jean and Cyclops talk about the fight on blue side of the moon as Phoenix against the Shiar and her sacrifice. Rogue... when she turned over to Magneto... laments how many times Jean had to die and return as the Phoenix. For as many times as they mentioned or talked about the Phoenix throughout the show, I would have been more shocked that the Phoenix didnt show up. In fact, I figured it would happen as soon as Cable "killed" Jean in episode 9. I mean, come on, pay attention fellas.
Xmen 97 is a continuation of the original animated series, which featured 22min episodes of rapidly paced storytelling for a young audience. I don’t think we have any right to be comparing it to comics. This isn’t a continuation of comics, and comics are NOT a prerequisite or a viable benchmark for judging this show. This show took its preceding seasons and vastly improved the weight of storytelling and animation. You cannot expect more.
I really enjoyed that they cut the fat from the series, i dont really need filler. I dont need an episode about them letting drunk and fighting juggernaut. Ive waited since 96 for this i dont need a slow show
You gotta be not paying attention to not know that Phoenix was going to show up and at the time she did. Also to not realized that Gambit will be back as Death from the ending shown and the way Apocalypse paused before saying "Death"
What Matt seem not to understand is those of us who never read those particular comics don't know the story. So with X-Men 97 presses all these comics together I wouldn't know the difference. I just follow the stories given, with no expectations of what story lines they crunch together. I must say expectations really kill perception. Lastly, If they took weeks to flesh out a story line like Life/Death how many episodes do you think Disney's gonna pay for? Less can be more so what you really want is fewer stories used per season.
It's a fact that it was barely marketed. I talked to individuals in the Disney company about it and they barely put any money in compared to the other products to advertise the show.
@@Drixenol86Disney underestimated the fact Google owns both YT and Netflix so word of mouth was never going to be allowed to strive on social media platforms to begin with and oppositely all the anti Disney grift channels get promoted more.
I've said it once and I'm gonna say it again... Unless DeMayo did something that is or should be punishable by law, I'm gonna have to ask whoever is in charge to bring him back. He's clearly a talented writer; he cares for the characters, and he brings insight and experience that I feel goes perfectly with what it means to be a "mutant." I'm gonna have to agree with Ryan. I didn't like how they treated the Pheonix Force. However, I do think that we should get used to her making an appearance every now and then. The Pheonix is realistically the only reason why Jean is as popular or interesting as she is present day. I like to think of it as the Ninetales inside Naruto.
There’s nothing stopping you from watching X-men 97 on Saturday morning. Although I do wish they would have released new episodes on Saturday instead of Wednesday
About the show rating, I want to point out that the reason why we won't see animated show in most of top chart these day, becos a lot of steaming chart today based on Watch Hours. It super hard for animation that has only 30-40 mins run time per episode will beat series that has 1-2 hours of run time. Basically you must need double or triple of audiences to make it even hit top 10 which is super hard to achieve. A lot of higher up people also know this well, so they don't think this show is a failure by any mean, that's why they got green lit for 3 season. However, animation project, most of the time will be first that got chop off, if studio want to cut any cost, regardless of how good they are. :,)
X-Men 97 wasn’t just better than the last 3 X-Men movies (Deadpool doesn’t count IMO) it was better than every X-Men movie since 2000. The storytelling was more fleshed out, meaningful & no longer held back by the ridiculous constraints of 90s FCC & Fox Kids executives censorship. This show did what the entirety of the MCU continues to fail to do: faithfully adapt the comics while making it accessible for new fans. This show is redemption for what the movies could have been & I hope the storyboarding & writers are the standard that the MCU will follow in their next phase. The animated 90s verse doesn’t need to become part of the MCU, allow it to be its own thing. One retort to Ryan Arey: Professor X didn’t need to die… yet. When they re-tell Messiah Complex and lead into Avengers vs X-Men which I don’t think a movie can properly do, Cyclops/Phoenix killing Professor X is a pivotal nexus event that has to happen. Mutant terrorist Cyclops is exactly where his character needs to go.
As someone who hasn’t read a single comic other than the Storm storyline, I didn’t feel anything was rushed or shortened. But I would’ve loved one more episode of Bastion ruining the world to feel the doom more.
Some of those deliveries of the dialogue between rogue, Jean, and storm for me was legendary. I don’t have a good memory but they definitely live rent free and I’ll never ask for it
The thing I LOVE about MCU is that yes, Its ALL connected. I dont get why people complain about this. When I was a kid, I hated that movie stories would be confined to a trilogy. I also hated super hero movies being seperated. I love going through complex mythology with complex characters and DIFFERENT characters and the cross overs are fun when its done well. So that being said ... I hope they build to more animation series, Spider Man 98, X Factor, X Force/New Mutants, Excalibur, etc.
Do want to add something I noticed in this new beloved season of X-men 97! This season single handedly continued 3 X-men shows: Animated series, Evolution and Wolverine & the X-men. Pretty obvious how marvel continued the animated series into this new season so won’t get into it 😊 🚨 Spoiler Alert for anyone who haven’t watched Evolution or Wolverine and the XMen yet 🚨 Evolution series ends with a speech by Xavier, having caught a glimpse of the not-too-distant future in Apocalypse's mind that shows: Continued anti-mutant sentiment, A reformed Magneto as a new instructor at Xavier's institute, Jean being consumed by the all-powerful Phoenix Force and A fleet of Sentinels led by Nimrod (changed to Bastion in X97). All of these moments showed up in X97! As for Wolverine and the X-men, that whole series ended with a warning of a new danger approaching: the Age of Apocalypse (which will be S2 of X97)! I wish Marvel continued Evolution with S5 or W&tX with S2 but am happy to see elements of those shows continuing, creating and evolving the new and upcoming seasons of X-men 97!
I absolutely loved this show. After doing my homework and watching the OG series before hand, I adore it even more. My only gripe, if any, was the use of the phoenix. Jean is put in a position where she almost dies, then it’s used when supposedly she doesn’t have it anymore. The Phoenix said it left back when Jean died like the second time(?) after the blue moon battle, when the group gave a portion of their lives. It didn’t really make sense. Maybe we’ll get an explanation later on?
I get that things were rushed and/or jam-packed, but i get why and i also feel like this is the best example (animated or live actuon) of making the most out of the limited numbwr of episodes. No fat, no filler, all goodness
That is a good question. Maybe wearing it for extended periods isn’t healthy? Or some other reason. Or maybe it’s just the principle of it. I’d imagine They’d have to come up with one as to why she doesn’t.
It's a symbol of oppression and it gives her crippling headaches. About being a symbol of oppresion and a line not to be crossed, see how Storm is strongly against using it on Bastion.
Mike brings up a great point: when it comes to adaptations of the X-Men, no other medium has come as close to the source material as X-men 97. Great job to the show writers, directors, animators, and performers. It was a lot to shove 60 years in so few episodes but desperate times….
Ryan, Love this channel I have always been a fan of your content but I have been positively glued over the past few months! Got my friends to start watching too!
Just as long as people don't go on about how this "saved Marvel" it's all good. Marvel ain't no h*@! It doesn't need saving. The show was great and needs to remain self contained.
It reputation does. Like I enjoyed both The Marvels and Quantumania I thought they were fun movies for what they were, but they were literally treated like crimes against humanity on release, so people are not even giving them a chance anymore.
It really pained me to learn that "Echo", probably one of the worst shows Marvel has put out next to She-HULK and Secret Invasion didn't get better viewership numbers. I really must live in a bubble, because I kept seeing stuff for X-Men 97 online all over the place. I hope once the word gets out, the numbers will start creeping up to where they need to be. And when/if the bring the X-Men into the movie universe, Beau DeMayo needs to be in that writers room.
Nah man, I believed her the first time she told me it don’t gotta last that long, but considering the attitude she had after I never believed her again when she said it. (Edit: It’s possible we are talking about different things.)
this is what a show looks like when you mostly remove "Filler" episodes. its crazy how much people complain about filler episodes and yet this the chief complaint about this show is that was essentially a 26 episode series in only 10 episodes. but most of that is because the shows had filler episodes that padded the length of a season and allowed them deep dive into other storylines aside from the episodes that pushed the seasonal plot along. though it seems what gets called filler and what doesn't is a matter of how interesting it was to the audience. though to be fair to the show i think saying it was rushed is a huge disservice as the word "rushed" has negative connotations of supply work, espeically supply worked done at the last minute due to various reasons. what we got was certainly not rushed. but it was very condensed and it was paced extremely fast. quite a few of the episodes could have been their own seasonal arc as was done in the comics. but one thing i have heard from many people is that most of the times what we got was done BETTER than the comics. inferno being a prime example. where we are able to get a sold storyline that just worked so much better than it did in the comics. i will say i much prefer the longer season format to short 6 - 10 episode seasons. yes that means we get filler but it lets us deep dive into the characters and the world they live more. it makes it feel like your getting fast food rather than going to a sit down restaurant. even if the fast food we're getting is 5 star Michelin star worthy food.
Click baity title and yeah the Phoenix was referenced in pretty much every episode in the beginning. It seems more like you're just not a fan of how the character is used. Since Jean hasnt been the host for the Phoenix for quite some time. Bastion's plan would be a threat to the Phoenix's who existence so it makes sense why she was in the episode. Just my take
I grew up on X-men in the 90’s through comics and the tv series. Now I have a 13 year old watching 97 with me and feeling the pain of losing Gambit just like we all did. The nostalgia was amazing, and the added alterations were mostly satisfying…. Having Screencrush break it all down so my boy can understand more about this universe is a gift.
As someone that loves to geek out on marvel stuff but never read comics as a kid, I watched this season as one story arc as opposed to seeing every episode as an adaption of x or y comic. I can see how if you were first familiar with the comics then this might seem rushed since these storylines took years to develop in the comics, but without that prior knowledge the pacing was honestly amazing to me. Every character got some amount of meaningful character development , and every major event flowed into the next so naturally that it felt like it was meant to happen the way it did. The only pacing problem I had was that Madelyne prior was introduced, given a chance to be an individual and then killed within 3 episodes. To me her death would’ve been much more meaningful if she had been an established character for at least a season or 2
Honestly I think they did Inferno better and I am glad they speed ran through it. Claremont was doing his best to appease the suits and bring back Jean Grey (Who he intended to stay dead) which was super awkward in the comics. It ruined Cyclops's character in the comics for a long time. In the comics Scott believed Jean was dead, but as soon as she returns he dumps his wife and mother of his child (Who he already knew wasn't Jean Grey).
Noooo plz don't make whole seasons about Storm getting her powers back. No need to be stretching these out. That's you asking for the writers to write non comic stuff to fill up time. Those would all be fuller episodes. If Storm has no powers, wtf are we supposed to be excited about? Her fighting hand to hand? We don't know which direction they want to go. We can stop trying to control the narrative of the MCU. We never had power and never did. They didn't need us for endgame or Shang chi so why now? They didn't ask fans how to make Capt America winter soldier, they just did.
Echo was also a binge so people have much more leaning toward sticking with it vs a weekly cartoon that spans a few months. I despise 20 min episodes once a week. I’m waiting for it to finish then I can watch it the way it should have been done.
Ryan Arey and Mike Lawrence talking about something they disliked: *high pitch* 'Iiiiiiii dunno..' 'Aaaaactually...' 'Weeeeeeell...' 6/10 review, still better than the shirts.
I want to thank you so very much for this channel and your content. Books vs Books with pictures (comics), Movies, Broadway plays, and TV Shows, are typically for separate audiences. TBH I am a diehard Marvel fan that was not allowed to have comics as a kid, born in 1984, watched the 90s animated series in full growing up, and virtually all my comic knowledge has come from this channel, New Rock Stars and Comics Explained on UA-cam. That being said, I feel like this is the best iteration of X-Men I have ever seen. I agree with Matt that Xmen97 is the show “we convinced ourselves we were watching as kids in the 90s” I see every point you made in you and the team of comic professionals “gripes” about the “rushed” stories. But as a person who did NOT read the comics, it didn’t “FEEL RUSHED” at all, not even once. It felt nostalgic and New and Fresh simultaneously. I love the emotional character arks, the TOTAL UPGRADE (action wise) to every single character. It showed how truly epic each character can be with their abilities and made them look and feel so much cooler than the original show. I absolutely love that I can watch an MCU project and come to channels like this one for breakdowns! It makes it a full circle experience for me, it has totally increased, beyond measure, my enjoyment and entertainment and I cannot thank you enough.
Some ppl are NEVER happy/satisfied. When we get shows like Daredevil (Netflix) where we GOT those “filler” episodes, ppl complained that the show was too dragged out & those episodes were NOT needed. Now we get X-Men’97 without those moments & NOW the complaint is that we “NEEDED the filler episodes”. Sounds like what was “needed” was something to complain about.
Ryan is really good at his job so I give him a pass he’s earned it. He doesn’t make many videos about the leaks and rumors like the other channels instead he does his own research and makes videos based on his own theories which is refreshing and needed.
@@KnightRaymund I get that and I really enjoy watching Ryans videos but damn at least let us get a taste of the video or take a breath before its shoved down our throats
I felt like the Phoenix didn't actually come back. Thats why so much of her was actually made of water. It looked to me like Jean was using her powers to act like the phoenix. Of course here experience as the Phoenix would affect her and leave some residual, not powers, but moves let's say. She learned something about how to use her powers. Thats why Cable mentions how people view Jean in the future. And also why Sinister mentions that Jean is "peacocking". She is showing off her true power. Thats why the use of her powers was blue not fire. She made herself to look like the phoenix but she was not. I am sure she also mentions the Phoenix being gone to reassure the team that shit won't go bad like last time.
Yeah Phoenix never used blue telekinesis, it was more the embers of the Phoenix force left behind in her body from before temporarily amplified her mutant powers so she could protect her son.
Serious question.... xmen original seris had cable.come.back and use wolverine to cure the technovirus ... even called a texhnovirus by cable.... so how can sinister infect him again.. when we know that wolverine holds the cure..
Great video as always. I hope the collabs with Lawrence will last forever on this channel. When he is talking about the storylines and at what age he read it, it pierced trrough my heart, remembering me of my first time reading comics. And hail Doug, the Supreme!
It was good but not perfect. It's ok to discuss the things that didn't work as well. That being said, that thumbnail was a horrible idea. They spoke so favorably of the show but that thumbnail makes people thinks they didn't like it.
@@cd5139 they complained about a lot. I have zero gripes with this series. I think everyone gets so caught up in having an opinion that we forget to just enjoy a creation and let it be its own thing rather than what we want.
@@reecewilliams8349 a critique isn't always a complaint. Why do people always get mad that the thing they find to be perfect isn't perfect to everyone? I loved the show but the Phoenix just showing up was stupid.
@cd5139 if you're not directly telling the person who made it or they have no chance of seeing it. It's a complaint friend. The phoenix showing up was super impactful and needed to show the reality that it's not really gone forever because if you watched the original series it was gone forever. The story was closed and there any many more storyline involving the phoenix that could come up.
The whole thing with them rushing, I totally understand that. Realistically, they did not know that it would be received well and they would get another season. So I totally get going all in and trying to make everything great which of course means going a little quicker through story arts even though people don’t read comics everything seemed a lot more fluid and made sense. I try not to just view through my own eyes, but take in the perspective of the average watcher.
To reply what Ryan was saying about streaming episode drop format: I think the best format is what Bad batch did. Where it dropped episodes in story bursts. 2 episodes on launch, 1 next week, 3 the next week, 1 the next week, 1 episode the next week, then 2 at the same time as a finale etc etc.... I want episodes to drop in a way that makes sense for the storytelling, not all at once, or one per week.
I kinda saw this season as an experiment. Maybe testing the waters with which X-Men show/movie characters to bring into the MCU. Or maybe to test the nostalgia of this show. Originally I thought this whole show was going to be pruned so bring everyone into the MCU. Then after Secret Wars they would bring in Season 2 with whoever is left after. Like real interconnectivity.
Wow talk about missing the mark, I guarantee if they gave you more episodes or longer run times you would absolutely be making a video complaining about there are way too many "filler" episodes and the season was slow... Sorry but good animation takes forever to complete & I'd much prefer this than waiting 2-3 years between seasons. I'm sorry but you have some of the absolute worst takes imaginable not to mention you constantly get sooooo much wrong and that's not even getting into your terrible theory ideas, ie The Acolyte... talk about a terrible video.
From a Fan who last read X-Men during the John Byrne Dark Phoenix, this is great. You might know what you’re missing, but the Show runner created a continuous story. The characters continued to develop. It’s all connected. I can’t wait for next season.
Also remember Scott went off on the reporter. All the stuff happening to him made him go off. He would never done that in the old show. So they even made up for that.
The show was great but I think one of the reasons it might not be doing well on Disney + is because people canceled their subscriptions midway through phase 4 and an animated show isn't enough to bring them back. This is at least the case with severalnof my own friends. Get another movie (DP&W) and another good show (could be Agness?) and they will start to trickle back in and XMen 97 will blow up
Keeping episode jam packed means better watch time. I never felt like i could walk away to grab a snack or for board and wanted to skip ahead. I watched every goddamned minute of that show. 100% watch time.
Okay so : - Best Marvel Disney + TV Show - Top 3 Best Marvel TV Shows ever (with Daredevil and you tell me the other one) - Best adaptation of the X-Men ever - Best X-Men material in 10 years (Days of Future Past, not counting Logan because it's not an X-Men movie but a Wolverine movie) - Best Marvel animated series ever (correct me if I'm wrong) - One of the best superheroes story (with ATSV) in a long time Ok how much more do you need to go and watch it asap ?

Yup, that’s the channel giving in to the UA-cam algorithm/trend of presenting everything in a negative light just for the views. Very disappointing.
I hate when he does clickbaity titles 😒
Looks like they changed it to get more algorithms clicks
@@DAHamilton This channel doesn't understand the trend. A proper way would be to type X-Men '97 DESTROYS Modern MCU. To praise something, it's better to serve a comparison to something worse. More examples: Mad Max Furiosa DESTROYS Modern Hollywood. Among mid movies and shows, there is a star what shines so bright so to show it, contrast works best. Crazy hey. I have zero complaints about this show. It was perfect to me.
Marvel finally put out a disney+ show I liked more than wandavision and loki, I personally think it was incredible
They then undid everything in wandavision in the first 10 minutes of multiverse of madness.

Seriously say a louder for the people in the back especially the bandwagon fans.
The X-men themes range from loud to me as a child as I had many of the same real world
Conversations and struggles through various means . The conversation with sunspot and his family was all too familiar .

Click bait title, it's one of Disney's best shows in a long time.
That's literally saying nothing.
Very low bar to clear lolololololol yikes.
Both above statements are also true lol
Nit picking at its finest. As a person who lived through the cash grab of the 90s- Bravo. Many of the story lines in the 90s didn't need to be as long as they were. I hated buying 15 different titles to follow one story. This medium is telling the story in a condensed way. Allowing new people to be vested while satisfying old readers. Mission accomplished.
Exactly! Too many comics to buy is the reason I stopped reading them.
Yeah let’s not put success down to be better than the lowest common denominator.
Agree. It was a great to have a series not have a bunch of filler episodes to meet the series requirements. A lot of the stories from the 90's were drawn out and where nothing more than cash grabs. In my opinion this show is some of the best X-Men we have gotten in a long time.
I get that clickbait sadly works, but having Is it bad? in the thumbnail looks terrible.
Agree I hope they change this because it just puts negative mojo for no reason out there.
Right? After the 1st words put of Ryan's mouth is ".....best X-Men adaptation ever...." I'm thinking, TF? Super lame
Agree. Love these videos. But misleading clickbait is very meh.
Screen crush doesn’t need the trigger thumbnail. Show was awesome.
Remember it broke me!!! When Magneto spoke German to Leach telling him don’t be afraid… man I cried ugly tears and then Rogue saying Suga I can’t feel you….that just did it for me.
Yes. Those were such moving moments.
"Haben keine angst," doesn't even translate to "don't be afraid." It means "Don't be angry." The writers dropped the ball ok that one.
Ryan in case you missed it. Apocalypse says so much death while holding gambit’s card. Referring to Gambit being resurrected as the horseman of death.
“So much death….” OR “So much, Death”…. Alluding to Gambit’s display of so much power. Survival of the fittest…
Gambit’s death was the high point because the entire 90s series set the back story of Rogue and his relationship making it that much more heartbreaking. Gambit was a lot of people’s favorite character.
I could not believe what I was seeing. My man fucked em up tho
It was so similar to the Justice League ep, where batman was talking to Ace, very impactful with so little time.
you said it perfectly, I agree completely
🎯🎯
Very well said.
I haven't seen the original series. But this still felt fresh bcoz they did a gud job introducing these characters

We could use Logan's healing factor.

I have watched the whole series with headphones on. Really good ones. The sound is amazing.
Everyone complains about filler and then we don’t get the how we complain about not enough lol
There is a sweet spot which is hard to achieve
Ive waited since 96 for this i dont need a slow show
Absolutely agree. We know what we’re here for, bring on the beef! Lol.
But then if u wanna make a full on mature show u need that ryt? Like u need more time to develop characters.

X-Men ‘97’s version of Inferno was much much better than the comic version.

I've said it once and I'm gonna say it again... Unless DeMayo did something that is or should be punishable by law, I'm gonna have to ask whoever is in charge to bring him back. He's clearly a talented writer; he cares for the characters, and he brings insight and experience that I feel goes perfectly with what it means to be a "mutant."
I'm gonna have to agree with Ryan. I didn't like how they treated the Pheonix Force. However, I do think that we should get used to her making an appearance every now and then. The Pheonix is realistically the only reason why Jean is as popular or interesting as she is present day. I like to think of it as the Ninetales inside Naruto.

Wouldn't say that.
As someone who hasn’t read a single comic other than the Storm storyline, I didn’t feel anything was rushed or shortened.
But I would’ve loved one more episode of Bastion ruining the world to feel the doom more.
The A on Apocalypse isn't for his name, it's a Greek letter for he is the god of old, Alpha to the Omega mutants.

It is like they came up with a bunch of story lines on a white board then said fuck it, let’s do all of them. Lol
Do want to add something I noticed in this new beloved season of X-men 97! This season single handedly continued 3 X-men shows: Animated series, Evolution and Wolverine & the X-men.
Pretty obvious how marvel continued the animated series into this new season so won’t get into it 😊 🚨 Spoiler Alert for anyone who haven’t watched Evolution or Wolverine and the XMen yet 🚨
Evolution series ends with a speech by Xavier, having caught a glimpse of the not-too-distant future in Apocalypse's mind that shows: Continued anti-mutant sentiment, A reformed Magneto as a new instructor at Xavier's institute, Jean being consumed by the all-powerful Phoenix Force and A fleet of Sentinels led by Nimrod (changed to Bastion in X97).
If Rogue wants to be with Gambit, why doesnt she just wear an inhibitor collar.
That is a good question. Maybe wearing it for extended periods isn’t healthy? Or some other reason. Or maybe it’s just the principle of it.
I’d imagine They’d have to come up with one as to why she doesn’t.
it hurts them to wear it. it was addressed in the og show and it's a thing in the comics
It's a symbol of oppression and it gives her crippling headaches. About being a symbol of oppresion and a line not to be crossed, see how Storm is strongly against using it on Bastion.
So talk to Forge and make it happen.
Been getting it!!!😂
Mike brings up a great point: when it comes to adaptations of the X-Men, no other medium has come as close to the source material as X-men 97. Great job to the show writers, directors, animators, and performers. It was a lot to shove 60 years in so few episodes but desperate times….
Seeing and comparing the animation from the 90s to now was amazing!

Im glad this didn't drag. We didn't need everything to last forever
Xmen 97 joins Justice league, avatar, and btas in just amazing examples of animation being such a special medium
To me her death would’ve been much more meaningful if she had been an established character for at least a season or 2
Definitely enjoyed it anything better than the live action
Man, if they did all of that with Sebastian, imagine what they could do with Onslaught!
This show flipped me from a lifetime Wolverine guy to hardcore Cyclops Stan
Echo was also a binge so people have much more leaning toward sticking with it vs a weekly cartoon that spans a few months. I despise 20 min episodes once a week. I’m waiting for it to finish then I can watch it the way it should have been done.
No to filler episodes, filler episodes make the ratings and the hype go down.
15 episodes. Let some stories breathe. This season was perfection as close as it gets, change nothing as it sets up more. Truly a study piece.

I assumed that Jean always had an ember of the Phoenix burning inside her so the return was expected.
Video starts…….0.003 seconds later - Ryan: “BUY OUR MERCH BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY MERCH BUY MY MERCH BUY MERCH IN STORE MERCH BUY!!!”
Ryan is really good at his job so I give him a pass he’s earned it. He doesn’t make many videos about the leaks and rumors like the other channels instead he does his own research and makes videos based on his own theories which is refreshing and needed.
They gotta make a living
@@KnightRaymund I get that and I really enjoy watching Ryans videos but damn at least let us get a taste of the video or take a breath before its shoved down our throats
Did you buy a shirt yet
Rushed excellence.
I'm Sooooo Happy you guys mentioned Cloak & Dagger totally Loved them on Freeform. Maybe in Marvel Heaven we'll see them in another show
FFS -This time last year we had Secret invasion... Stop Moaning!!!
"Took those warm feelings of nostalgia and weaponised them to hurt us"
Exactly.
I'm sorry but hearing yall complain about a good show kills my want to watch this channel.
Yeah I'm on the edge of being done with this channel
The moment thay always gets me from OG animated Batman was from the episode "Growing Pains". If you know you know
The whole thing with them rushing, I totally understand that.
That moment when Cyclops breaks and becomes angry because he's tired of having to beg for tolerance...
To reply what Ryan was saying about streaming episode drop format:
I think the best format is what Bad batch did. Where it dropped episodes in story bursts. 2 episodes on launch, 1 next week, 3 the next week, 1 the next week, 1 episode the next week, then 2 at the same time as a finale etc etc....
I want episodes to drop in a way that makes sense for the storytelling, not all at once, or one per week.
still no house of the dragon final trailer breakdown, the biggest show on the face of the earth.
House of what?!? Never heard of it
@@virtuaguyverify incredibly weak attempt, try harder next time
@kjg824 no need, incredibly weak show
@@sorcerersupremekoby dude get a life instead of crying over not having your precious breakdown
They didn't advertise the show like Echo. Most my friends had no idea it was coming out
Starting to dislike when you say things like “ it wasn’t perfect “ like your beard isn’t perfect every morning dude chill out
cope and seeth
From a Fan who last read X-Men during the John Byrne Dark Phoenix, this is great. You might know what you’re missing, but the Show runner created a continuous story. The characters continued to develop. It’s all connected. I can’t wait for next season.
Why do you insist on making stupid clickbait titles???
Also remember Scott went off on the reporter. All the stuff happening to him made him go off. He would never done that in the old show. So they even made up for that.
The show was great but I think one of the reasons it might not be doing well on Disney + is because people canceled their subscriptions midway through phase 4 and an animated show isn't enough to bring them back. This is at least the case with severalnof my own friends. Get another movie (DP&W) and another good show (could be Agness?) and they will start to trickle back in and XMen 97 will blow up
Great show! Loved it! I feel like if you need more than this, then you should pick up the comic. Bring on season 2!
Keeping episode jam packed means better watch time. I never felt like i could walk away to grab a snack or for board and wanted to skip ahead. I watched every goddamned minute of that show. 100% watch time.
Okay so :
- Best Marvel Disney + TV Show
- Top 3 Best Marvel TV Shows ever (with Daredevil and you tell me the other one)
- Best adaptation of the X-Men ever
- Best X-Men material in 10 years (Days of Future Past, not counting Logan because it's not an X-Men movie but a Wolverine movie)
- Best Marvel animated series ever (correct me if I'm wrong)
- One of the best superheroes story (with ATSV) in a long time
Ok how much more do you need to go and watch it asap ?
