this is my primary RC car. excellent quality, durable and many upgrades available. it does not have the fine handling of a serpent or a tlr but for its price, this thing is hands down the best option for an all around rc car..
I race one of these at my local off-road track where I live, and it holds its own! Extremely capable and tough. Nothing has broken on it yet with the repetitive rigours of racing on a track. It's running 600cst oil in front shocks, 500cst in the rear, 10k cst oil front diff, 300k cst oil in the centre, and 7k cst in the rear diff - I've found this ideal for going around a track with many twisty corners. The motor is an X8 2650kv 4268 motor with 4S and a Hobbywing EZRUN Max8 G2 esc - consequently, it's a monster. The punch it has from out of a corner is nice, and with the 1/2" offset wheels it's running it has the span to help put that torque down into traction and get it going as quick as it can. I'm so impressed with the Hobao that it truly deserves a crack at racing on a larger scene, I'd love it if the BRCA created an eTruggy class to go along with the 1/8 Nitro Truggy class, I'd certainly travel to compete in those race events!! The UK needs to play catchup with the US.. The Hobao SSTe Truggy deserves to be on the racing scene.
As a ZD Pirates 3 truggy owner who has always loved the thing but never been to hard on it I must say I think we need the SSTe now too! I would certainly buy it over a Traxxas Truggy because I am a sucker for value and Traxxas large scale may be some of the supreme leaders I just can't justify cost. I'm a bit of an Arrma fanboy but I prefer variety in our collection.
Huge OFNA/Hoboa fan. Love my Hyper 8 and CRT.5 and had almost all the models. They are super tough and can be tuned for racing too! The RC in my logo is my CRT.5 which I converted to brushless. It flies! Cheers and great video!
Most people in the US have not heard of HoBao it never sold here under that brand name. It was sold under OFNA, which imported both HoBao, and Hong-Nor products, and sold them under the OFNA brand name. I've owned many of them, in the late 90's and through the early to mid 2000's they were, known as a high quality brand, but didn't have much racing success to give them a name like LOSI, or Associated. They were great for bashers and knew LOTS of people who ran a Hyper 7 buggy, or a Jammin X1. In particular the X1 buggy was probably the closest they ever came to big name racing recognition with the Jay Jammin X1 FTE 1/8th buggy kits, and later CRT trudges. These were competition grade cars and every bit as good as the others.
They were and are still a very good high quality brand. Unfortunately due to intense marketing strategies and social media traxxas and arrma are the new bashing kings but truthfully i would take my SSTE over my Kraton 6s and Xmaxx all day long. So much more enjoyable!
@@beyondRC unfortunately it’s basically death for a rc if you can’t walk into a hobby shop and they don’t stock your spare parts. That’s where traxxas is king. It’s not fun when you break a part and have to order it and wait a week for it to arrive. That said, I still own a Jammin X1 CRT Pro I converted to brushless. Along with a Hyper One Seven Evo, also converted to brushless. A Hong-Nor NEXX8. And I have a Hyper 10tte, LOSI mini 8ight, and a few more classic RCs.
I've really considered getting ine of these! They look awesome and seem to perform really well. I also like building the kits haha, awesome video mate!
That is sweet looking I wonder why they are underrated. You're the only one that I see that's reviewing this car. And I watch a lot of videos. I'd like to get ahold of one myself depending the price.😊
Mainly because ARRMA and Traxxas have such good advertising and such a good online presence. Hobao have been around way longer than ARRMA and used to be the go to for nitro fans. They have a huge fan base with track fans but not so much for bashing fans. My sste as seen in the video has been my most used and abused basher this year and all my friends say its like a demon on 4s the noise, the speed and the handling make for such an amazing everyday basher! People need to give hobao a much bigger chance. Check out @ChrisWithA C RC he has just built a SSTE after watching my vids and is extremely pleased! Drive it on Carpet track. The only issue is the Servo Saver. The plastic parts of it are bending under high traction. If you lock the tires and move the steering Servo, you can see how the plastic parts are working.
I own a sledge and would buy another sledge over that one. So many parts and accessories for the sledge plus the sledge is pretty sweet. just my 2 cents...run with whatever makes you smile. The HoBao does look pretty good though.
When I had one of these, it was excellent on track, I tried 1 big jump and broke the rear shock piston, it wasn't that popular back then and parts were never in stock. That fan though ❤ just what I need for racing 😊
Been watching these in action! They seem to be very well made as well as an impressive basher! Good to see you propping them up as they deserve more attention! That Gt powered blower is sick ! I’ll be checking those out! Great video my friend!😎💯👊🏼
I want that fan but I followed your link and 59.90 isn't a bad proce but the 83.80 for shipping is a rip off, ain't no way it costs that much to ship. Guess for now I'll keep lugging my little 12v compressor on 3s around. Thanks for the Vid Ricky. I've never had a heybayoh haha but they do look pretty sweet
@@beyondRC I noticed, was checking out prices yesterday and stock was limited. I'm not sure how interchangeable parts are between vehicles, for instance like Arrma, you can swap tons of parts between their 6S lineup.
i also have a hobao sste and i really like it. about the gearing, isn't it a bit too high if you use 22t pinion? have you ever experienced overheating?
I'd definitely take it over the sledge. I wanna love traxxas but their pricing just won't let me. I don't see $150 plus more value in a sledge than a 6s Kraton, Outcast, or this. Then there is the proprietary stuff and battery headache. They just won't let me love them. P.S. I'm not cheap. I have multiple $1000 plus rigs. They were all priced accordingly to their class. The xmaxx is the only reasonably priced traxxas.
You think the Hobao sste is underrated then you should check out the Hoban hyper st pro. I have the st pro that I converted to brushless a long time ago and it’s mint, I’ve yet to own a RC better built than it is and I’ve owned a lot and still do own a lot.
I know mate. Used to love the Kronos XTR it barely comes out now i have this as im scared about breaking it. Cant enjoy an RC that way.. I was also promised an Asuga but they have admitted due to the parts shortages there has been a huge delay.. not good for business or promotion
i run most of my 6S models on 4S so i up the spur gear too. depending on the scale, sometimes i'll swap the motor out with a higher kv motor. tit for tat. My current best tune is on the TLR Typhon roller slothing around on a 2250kv 22t spur. dare i attempt a short speedrun on 6S?🙄
Great Content Definitely appreciated do you have tha item # or link for the extended wheel hex u changed on tha vehicle for the wider stance ????🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿

If you ask me, every single 1/8th scale truggy that isn't a Sledge or a Kraton 6S is in the running for the most underrated 1/8th scale truggy ever. Or really, the Sledge and Kraton are overrated. Don't get me wrong, the Sledge and Kraton are great trucks in their own right (props to Traxxas for finally making a new _modern_ platform after all these years as well), but it seems like 80% of the RC hobby community almost goes out of their way to ignore the existence of anything other than Traxxas, ARRMA and the Chinese budget brands.
literally anything is a Sledge killer, they kill themselves. my buddy had a sledge when i met him and it is just constant headache after headache with this thing

Deserves to be way more popular
Yes it seems to be overlooked...not thought of as a potential track weapon. Shame really.
My Hyper VSe has been to hell and back on 6s and it's still going strong. Great quality models
I love my Hobao SSTe. Running a 4292 1550kv 4800w motor and it absolutely rips, haven't broken anything yet apart from tyres😂. Nearly 3years old👍
Tanks!

Get one mate if the price is right! A decent 1/8 combo is all you need for lots of fun! Well maybe some new tyres too the stock ones suck! lol

I have one for these with a few upgrades and it’s an amazing car especially on the track the only weak spot is the diff pinion gear front and rear
Easy fix is to upgraded those to hardened steel and this is an infinite car.
