How to check media ratio in your DIY Vapor Blasting Cabinet

- I continually get asked what mixture of media should be run.
Or I end up being asked to diagnose home built systems that just don't function as they should.
This is a test I end up explaining a lot. Being short on time with all the builds keeping me busy, I figured now was a good time to squeeze in some quick edits.

Do you prefer the gun there to the Printed one?
Hi Josh, do you have drawings for the stainless cabinet? I’ve set up a few a vapour blasting cabinets now using the red HAFCO cabinets but finding they are rusting out too quick. I plan to make my next one out of stainless like this one. Cheers
Hey mate,
Yes I do. I don't usually make a habit of distributing them though. Send me an email at josh@armouryenterprises.com to discuss.
Cheers
Josh.
What type of pump do you use. That abrasive would damage the impellar of most centrifugal pumps. Diaphram pump i imagine would be ideal for this setup.
Pumps are centrifugal submersibles. Diaphragm pumps don't flow enough, and the abrasive wears out the valves. Even lower priced submersible pumps have shown resilience against the wear of the media, but some of the better quality submersibles have urethane impellers and oil filled seals.
how many hp compressor do you use?
For small stuff, I just use a 3hp 12.5cfm unit. For the big jobs I use a 75CFM diesel compressor.
Soo if i have 45 liters tank i need to put 9kg of media witch is 20percent?😄
Not necessarily. There are a number of factors that will affect your mixture. Pump position, reservoir shape, pump flow, agitation efficacy. It is a good start though.
