I'll be honest, this video actually help me out alot. I had no clue what the green wire was for. You took WAY to long to put this all together though. What took you end evening hold of been done in a hour or two. I'll be installing my radio on July 29th or July 30th 2015. I have a 2002 Honda Accord LX Sedan. I don't really know the difference in the LX, EX, or the other one. You helped me out alot. Don't listen to the people trash talking they are just mad they had to pay someone to do something so easy.
Thanks so much for this video. Most people say to ground out the parking brake cable, but I want to wire mine up correctly. That hint about getting the cup holder out is going to save me hours!
the hvac lights are replaceable you just need to replace them. the plastic housing on the back has a few screws. the actual lights twist out. I re did mine with green leds. turned out great.
Hooking the ignition switched wire like this can cause a battery drain with some stereos. Honda's ignition switch wire does not go through the ignition switch, but through the ecm. So it maintains a 1.0V on the wire with the ignition off. You need to wire a relay on this wire using it both as a trigger to the relay and a power source. I've had to do this on at least a dozen diy installations, where the person didn't know they need a relay.
Always good to see someone trying to save some money. I have damaged some dash units and broken clips trying to install my own stuff. Great video and keep going because I admire you for helping yourself.
I have the 2000 ex coupe and there was not a power antenna wire so I left it disconnected, and my radio comes in great. If I remember though, there was not an antenna trigger wire coming from the car wiring, if you look where that blue wires pin hooks, there is no wire connected on the cars harness, (it's empty)... Don't quote me on that, it's been a while since I did it. All I know is my radio reception is great. Thanks!
your right on the nylon pry tools.. i like to go cheap. for the electrical tape, i just twisted the wires really heard together and then bent them and taped them to secure them. 5 months and no problem. in fact, a month ago, i installed a rear view camera and used wire taps. thanks for your input!
Thank you for sharing your installation process. I decided to go with a unit without screen after seeing what is involved in installing the parking break wire. Thanks a lot.
Just a help tip if you can't do this all in one sitting make sure to reconnect the hazard switch as the turn signals are wired through it I found this out the hard way
when you work on anything that involved with electrical on your car you need to disconnect your battery otherwise you will burn your fuse and connector including the light bulbs .
In order to by-pass the emergency brake, all you have to do is connect it to a ground. (I.E. a bolt connected to a metal/steel surface) Then attach a switch in the middle of it.
no problem ;). if it is an aftermarket radio, and your car can support it in the dash, then yes, but you WILL HAVE to cut wires and solder/join them back together.
its kinda tricky but for the most part yes. The car has to support a radio, either single or double. from there, the radio must fit the mounting kit specific to your car. some radios have a retractable lcd screen and sometimes these radios mounting kits get in the way (isn't big enough) good luck!
There is a bulb behind your A/C display. Look behind the face plate. It's a "flat head" light that can be bought anywhere automotive lights are found. And you don't have to disconnect your battery to get it done. I replaced all my dashboard lights with LED ones. Never disconnected my battery to do it on my 98 Accord.
I'm glad you were able to 'upgrade' the look of your dashboard. Ever since the downturn of the economy of Bush junior, I got a service manual and do all maintenance and repairs myself. Saved myself thousands, as the Honda dealerships are simply too expensive. The only thing I paid for is a local 'mom & pop' shop to repaint my car, as the paint for the 6th generation Honda's oxidize too easily. My car looks brand new as I've babied it from the day I bought it. 20 years from when the '98 V6 models showed up. Still going strong. The only thing I do at the dealership is get it inspected. They still offer to buy my car every time I show up. I'll drive mine until it drops. :)
Sonyag1 haha every time I go to the dealer to get parts for my car the guy goes your pos car broke down yet? Hahah nope . He’s cool though he gives me stuff whole sale. I change the fluids in my Accord often
Great vid, i'm doing android double din myself but i can't get Steering wheel controls to work. There's no wiring out of the harness for remote controls wire on aftermarket head unit. I got 2001 Honda Accord EX-L V6 which has the volumn rockers.
soldering and heat shrinking is the best way to install the wiring. if are willing to buy it. .tape will usually start to lose it's grip during heat...
I have a same car as yours. I will try at this month. I have no idea for this, but I have confidence now. Thank~ and BTW, you can change AC panel bulb via Honda. Go to shop and say the part of bulb. I changed one time.
sorry for the late response. I see that you installed a head unit yourself from later comments. My security system works absolutely normal. goes off when doors/hood/trunk is open and wont turn on without those closed. Also the 'rumor' is true on newer Hondas from what I have read.
A Opening line “always disconnect your battery” and…I burnt this out, that out and this out. With the battery connected. Helpful but practice what you preach little brotha, you won’t burn that s#@* out dude!
i bought the pioneer head unit off of ebay.. referb. and sealed by mfg. the wiring harness and mounting kit off of amazon.. also recently installed a backup camera found on amazon
I'm sitting here laughing because he was saying it was a 10 year old car then and now here I am 10 years later working on the same car and it's 20 years old
Ive worked on this car model before, for just the stereo all you need is phillips screwdriver, a flathead (not recomended) or a dismanteling tool. And the reason you blew the bulbs is because you didnt disconnect the battery...not that its a big deal though.
No, they won't work if you install an aftermarket head unit. You can buy a "steering wheel adapter" to make it work, but it seems like that is a lot of extra hassle, especially if you have the controls that I do (up, down, and source). Cost between 40 and 70.
depending on whether the parking brake wire goes negative or pos when you apply it, you can just connect that wire to the acc wire or the constant + wire so that the video works while you are driving. I think it is better to have it available while driving because you never know when you will need it. If you don't need it,just don't use it. With these hondas, it is best to remove the metal mounting brackets on the old stereo and put them on the new one instead of using the cheap plastic ones that come in those kits. If the parking wire goes negative, just use a relay to make it switch pos and you can also use a switch to turn that video safety feature on and off in case you want to change it without taking the console apart.
Take from my experience i have the exact same setup same car and head unit ....Never connect illumination wires i had to spend 150 dollars on a network multiplex.

I hate doing these installs because they're a pain in the ass, but it's all worth it when you can drive around blaring that country music brother. Hell yeah!
the radio code should come on a little card (like a credit card) have you checked the owners manual for this card? also is there a serial number for the radio taped to the glovebox ? if not you have to take the radio out, record the serial number and google "honda radio code website" and click on the first link. you will also need your vin number. good luck!
Did your dimmer that you hook up short out your multiplexer? I'm buying a double din radio with the dimming. It's used but it's really bright at night so I'd like that feature of dimming. Just wanted to know if all your lights were fine
I haven't have a problem since this install. My car is an older car and many things are controlled by relays and switches, unlike newer cars which the computer controls basically everything.
@@CharlietoKind Interesting.....Thanks for the info. I'm about to do the stereo in my accord and was wondering what I was getting into. I'm not going for the DVD option so I'll be good. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting. This is so helpful! I have a AVH-X26000BT but the wire harness looks very much the same. It came with a USB cable and a microphone for the hands-free bluetooth. Any thoughts on how to route those out into the car? I want to put the microphone on the visor, but I don't know where to leave the USB cable. They connect to the back of the unit. Thanks.
Thanks for Watching! That is exactly what I did with my Mic, I routed under the drivers dash, behind the carpet, and up the door panel rubber to the sun visor. As for the USB cable, I would see if I could route it in an inconspicuous area for easy access. Good Luck!
CharlietoKind Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the silly question, but which carpet are you referring to (the one after the the driver dash)? I was thinking I would go under the driver dash, and somehow up in the A pillar and come out from there to the visor. Is one way easier than the other? would I have to remove a lot of parts for either?
I actually found space to run the mic through the center console (behind the radio) to under the carpet under the drivers dash, directly above the gas and brake pedals, where the carpet ends, I could easily run the wire and just tuck it behind the carpet, and run it across behind the carpet, and up the A pillar, through the rubber that you can tuck back, and coming out at the sun visor. Probably the biggest fragment I made, but I hope this helps! btw, what kind of car you have?
