In regards to the Dutch elm disease and possible vector insects... maybe use a Neem oil / organic soap / water combo in a spray bottle? I've been battling scarlet lily beetles for the past few years, this organic combo works wonders and is totally organic, safe for all plants, and doesn't affect helpful insects.

That bird sounds like a Pileated wood pecker. At least that’s what they sound like here in north Georgia. I have been watching your videos for many years now. All ways love your ficus videos as I grow them down here also. Keep them coming!

One of the many joys of doing bonsai is growing trees from cuttings. Not only for yourself, but that way you can always trade or give away pieces of your favorite specimen.

To balance of the vigor you can defoliate the vigorous branch so that other branches take over the process of photosynthesis that way they get thick while the branch catchup to them

Every year my ficus trees' leaves start yellowing and dropping and they stop growing for months and it scares me. Then spring comes and they start growing again like nothing happened😂
    They're slowly turning deciduous.

The bird's singing reminds me the Jynx torquilla, but It seems that Canada Is not his distribution zone, but the very North far east is also close to Canada, so i think It could be. The italian name Is "torcicollo" because it turns his head left and right very quickly. Or also could be some species of woodpecker. Likes green woodpecker.

yellowing leaves can also be a nitrogen deficiency. I put hair on the soil and leave it lay there just water the hair an after afew months it became green try it out! a good hand fell of cut hair an it will put nitrogen in soil

Nigel do you get Cuban Laurel Thrips on your Ficus?
I'm in northern Australia. All of my Ficus benjamina from seedlings to well established plants are affected. Almost every new leaf is damaged as it forms.
I've noticed it also on Ficus rubiginosa.
So far plants of Ficus benghalensis, religiosa, obliqua, watkinsiana, virens, racemosa and retusa are all Ok. All grown from seed.
Interesting to see you with Adansonia in your collection. I have large Madagascan trees here and will drop leaves when temperature goes below 24 C.

I'll check it out Andrew!! Have you seen the Lithops channel....
      ua-cam.com/channels/Ox9WkbGGqC7aeY7l0oZ3rQ.htmlvideos
I wonder if it was good to keep them dormant in the winter and then when the light is better, start adding a bit more water?

15:27 I guessed it is caused by affids (black tiny insects). They leave a sticky substance all over the leaf, hence it starts to dehydrate and curl around. I encountered this problem on Hibiscus Syriacus and Prunus Cerasifera (they seem common victims of these affids). I hope the spray will work to defend the bonsai. 🌳🌳🌳🙏🙂💡
