For those of you that comment about this car being cold-started and revved, it was not. The car had just been driven 40 kms roundtrip (highway 99) from Sunshine Hills to Whiterock and back. Secondly the liquids spitting from the back is not gasoline, it is water runoff from a flash rainfall.
I want to chime in here. I also had the E63 M6, and stock, it sounded pretty incredible. (I messed with its exhaust too:) However, for pure rawness, my 850i here was a beast in comparison. 12 cylinder just have something that lacks in V10 and 8s - with all due respect.
Yeah you could have always done this, emissions wise. It's still tampering with your exhaust (illegal) and probably some noise problems, no matter how old it is

Not enough videos of 850's sounding like this! Larry if this is your beautiful car would you possibly be able to take some video of it under load and driving? maybe even doing a burnout?
triumphdollysprint It was my car. I sold it to a lucky new owner .. but I bought a second, interesting one which will be posted soon with all it's interesting noises. (less the burnouts) - Thanks for commenting!
I still remember vividly, before the used market skyrocketed, I saw an 850ci on the marketplace for $2.5k. It was in decent condition for the price considering the time. The owner claimed it was running and driving, and the beautiful beamer whispered in my ear through my screen, expressing a need to be restored to it's youth and begging to be driven to it's absolute limits. Unbeknownst to me, that day in 2019 would be engrained in the calendar residing in my subconscious as the last time I would see a reasonable price tag attached to the German beauty. In that period of time, I wasn't even legally allowed to test drive it , as I got my license a year later, right after I turned 18. I'm finally getting the chance to drive a pristine example, best believe I'll be redlining the v12 and tearing the synchros apart with the constant downshifts.
I hear you bro. I never bought an 850i for more than 10K including this one. Our 8er club passed/sold them around like nothing. They were stuck at the bottom for at least 15 years.
That’s not the point of the engine. The M70 was supposed to be quiet, smooth, and supple, not loud, brash, and sporty. 4 valves per cylinder aren’t necessary for that.
My dad once new a naval officer who owned a Corvette. He lived in a little village in the UK. One day he decided to put cherry bomb exhausts on his car, from that day on the he had nothing but complaints from the local residents, even when he tried to creep through quietly people got mad. This video reminds me of that story. I'd be that one neighbour that's shouts "floor it!" every morning.
Thanks bro. I agree. This car was a muted, slow car (for a V12) - Mercedes V12 in the 90's was 100 more horsepower. However, this was as solid a car as I've ever owned.
@@llarose Yes, the older BMWs were actually well-built vehicles. They last very long unlike the new trash. If you still possess that 8 series, keep it as long as you can. 💯👍
I do have to agree. This is the best V12 BMW I've heard. Normaly, I find BMW V12 engines sounding a little bit weak. Even an old E36 with an L6 and erroded resonators sounds better. But boy, this thing is amazing.
