Eric Hakanson i think the reason for this car not being a collectable object is that it was a old heavy slow shitcar then and its still that today. 635 is a proper one, but it stops there. At least for me.
MrMadness while it may not collectable in the same vein as the 507, 2002tii or E30 M3, its still on a collecting trajectory of those cars. and it may not keep up with a new M-series or even a 911 of the same era, it is by no means slow. it may not be everyone's cup of tea but you should still respect it for its place in BMW history.
I was 12 when the 8-series was presented, right in the time when I was most enthusiastic about BMWs. It always annoyed me how underrated the car was in its days. Just like with the Z1 only the distance of over 25 years can tell how timeless and elegant these machines really were.
Supposed "car heads" are always discussing power and mocking certain models because they don't have 600 hp - while they forget that the passion is not found on specs. This video was great. Amazing. I could feel his passion and his connection to the car and to his dad through the car. Hopefully I'll find my perfect car someday too and a perfect story to go along with it.
Lou I hey man! I do, of course - the 240z and the Lotus Europa JPS have been part of my imaginary and I've been fortunate enough to sit on both. But my reasons definitely don't run as deep as the ones presented here. I just identify with the cars a lot since a kid, don't even know exactly why. What's your dream car and why?
Hey, those are some really nice cars and I appreciate them. Especially the Lotus. I once drove a Lotus Super Seven...a dream I'll tell you. Hmm it's not an easy question for me too but I'm going with two cars. 1. 1969 Charger 440 rt 2. 1st gen Viper RT GTS in silver with blue stripes. As soon as my brother stormed into our sleeping room when I was young I immediately got hooked by the Charger from Fast and Furious. I know sounds stupid but I saw one on a car meet and I swear my heart stopped in that moment:) Didn't have the balls to go up to it though:( And the Viper because of a poster on the wall from my brother in our room again. When I got to sleep and when I woked up I saw that car:) Hmm...I mean I was always into Corvettes too... But affordable wise I'll go with a BMW E34 M5. first car was an E34.
Lou the corvette C3 is gorgeous too - and I have a kind of similar story with exactly that viper - me and my childhood friend used to play Gran Turismo (the first one) and we were so much in love with it that we got models and went to a GT meet where we actually were able to sit on one (not drive it, unfortunately) soon as we turned 18. The E34 is just a staple and a future classic. You should get one and keep it! They'll retail for a lot in a near future.
@stubbk3 I built my Grandpa the 65 Falcon Sprint he always wanted. When I handed him the keys he handed them back and said he would enjoy it more if I took care of it for him.
This is by far, one of the best videos I've watched on UA-cam. Such an beautiful story, so well told. The emotional connection between the Father, the Son and The Dream Car! I can so relate to it. 😊
@@lucasvonheiz1310 the "bigger engine the cooler is the car" is not true in fwd, look at the 1zz of Toyota, the 2.0 vw GTI, the 2.0 vtec turbo etc. Yeah i love the 2jz (rwd), vr6, Clio v6...but for fwd the 4 cylinder is more than enough.
yeah. The old 850 is one of the few cars (can only really think of the delorean here and maybe the fisker karma) which looks timeless. It will never look old.
Anonymous User A shame they did a new 8-series... THE 8-series, like seen in the video, was a one of a kind BMW model, there was only one generation of it! It made it such a special model! A now... It's the "old one"... Fucked up!
Imagine my excitement when hearing about the neo 8 series dropping. Aaaaaaand then the utter disappointment when it was unveiled. They completely missed or yet had forgotten the one thing that set this car apart from the rest. It's uniqueness. The neo 8 series has not even the slightest bit of resemblance to it predecessor. Just another BMW mold with an 8 badge.
I don't have the CSI just the 850i but it is gorgeous. Bought it 10 years ago from the original owner, a 92 year old guy. Car had 43k miles, now have 63k. In black and in great shape. I, recently, went to BMW to see the new 8 and I can honestly say I like mine better.
This is what I want to find. Not this car In particular, but an early 2000s S4 or Golf with 30K miles. If you can find an older car with low miles, that’s the dream. I never thought I would say this, but they don’t make them like they used to.
This was a very well done video. That father/son relationship is something every boy becoming a man should have the opportunity to cherish. Once our fathers are gone we lose a piece of us. This man holds onto his fathers spirit through the embodiment of this car. His memory encapsulated into this 850CSI.
Same mani looove the BMW 8 series though the maintenance must be absolutely horrific (because they thought in the 90s when AUTODESK/AUTOCADD came out they though they should make everything impossibly tight because that’s definitely a fantastic idea ugh 🤦🏽♂️)
To average people they could mistaken it as a newer model. I had people assuming my eleven years old Saab to be a new model, they were surprised when I told them, it's not new, I just happen to keep it clean and nice - of course the car does it too, usually the more classy styled cars can have this effect because the design is timeless.
sexy in your garage coz of all the faults. the 840i is a better drivers car and has passed the test of time as a daily driver 25 years later. unfortunate but its the way it is.
All E31 are basically the same cars except for the engine, suspension, spoilers, RW mirrors and the rear wheel steering. The 6-speed manual was available on all models, although rare. I've driven my 850CSi since 1996 for 160000 kms/100000 mls, often in ridiculous speeds for long periods, and it has never let me down while driving. I doubt that any Italian sports car would have been that reliable. Granted, some small things are quirky, they all eat batteries, the seat handles break, the manifold intake gasket will fail (on all V12:s of that period - S70/M73) and the BMW computer in the shop won't see it so they change four lambda sensors before they figure it out, and the clutch is model specific for the CSi. And the headlight assembly, well, you might want to install separate DRL:s. But it's a heavily overengineered car made in small numbers, so some glitches are to be expected. All in all a CSi won't give you a lot of trouble for such a competent car. YMMV.
This video touched me, it is just beautiful. I can recall much of his story, my dad had an 850 back in the nineties, he was a petrolhead just like I am today. Back in the early 2000 he had to sell his 8 series to pay some debts, he later got the business running again and he always, always regretted selling it, he never forgot that car. In the following years he bought a lot of sport cars but he said none was to that same "special" level. Today I own an 1M and I think it feels kind of the same special as the original 8 felt, but the 8 still holds a special place in my heart and memories, I will own an 850 one day.
can you imagine yourself as a kid in 1990 sitting in such a car.. in the early 90's we were just stunned when we used to see one like once or twice per year. it is one of those moments you really wish your parents were rich
This was a huge deal but got panned in the press at the time. It was only when the 840 came out that I started to see a lot more of them. Never saw an 850 CSI in the flesh, but did see Alpina derivatives. It is the only car that elicits a positive response from the most anti car people I know. The shape is truly something special, something that makes people think outside their norm. In time, I think it will be celebrated as much as an F40 or Miura.
My dream has always been, since I was 5 years, to have a e31. I still remember my dad taking me out in his back in the early 90s. This video reminded me of the good old days.
This car stole my hart at the first sight. Now, 26 years later it is still my dream car. I drive bmw all my life, but never could get around to get 850csi, there are other 8 series cars but none like 850csi. Please, dont let it get stuck in a garage, After all it's Ultimate driving machine among ultimate driving machines, not ultimate stuck in a garage or ultimate sit in a driveway machine, so please, drive it, keep it on the road.
I would still get the touch ups he mentioned to keep it looking Top notch. Just budget for it to be done every few years or so. Absolutely beautiful car and story.

dailydrivenjzx beautiful car yeah, no discussion. "better story than f&f"? Na f&f has a great, long story line. I guess everything in new zealand is amazing that everything else is shit.
The Supra is not that fast stock, less than 300HP and a boat. However, if you have driven a 90's Toyota sports coupe, you would know they may not be quick, but you will never need to touch the brakes. The way they handle right to the limit is so predictable yet wild. Even a FWD 6th gen Celica will out corner cars way out of it's league.
This was my dream car growing up as a kid. I was born in 88 in Bulgaria, had a poster of the 850 in my childhood bedroom. This dude is right, it blows my mind how well this car has aged. Wish they could still drop V12s in GTs these days.
You sir, have a very special car. 8 series in general still look modern nowadays, but the V12 (what sound) makes this one even better. I like the fact that it despite its perfect condition it is still driven properly, like chasing Minis down a hill. I really admire the guys sharing their true car passion here a Petrolicious, your dad must have been very, very happy about that drive home from the airport. ;)
I seen one this week at my local auto repair shop in a cherry burgundy color with v12 on the front pillar and i was so fascinated and the fact that there wasnt alot made around 1500 im so lucky to have seen it with my real eyes
My uncle ( my mom's twin brother) owned a BMW dealership in Dallas , TX had an M1 and one of these sitting on the showroom floor. Both very lovely cars. Probably 2 of the maybe 4-5 BMW's I'd truly love to own. Great video Petrolicious !!!
Oh man~~ I love this car so much... I was born in 80 and my uncle used own this 850i in Taiwan back in 93. Even today in 2017, I'm still working so hard to try to find this car. I wish I can own this car one day. Everything you said in this video was all correct and the most important is "it's timeless body design at all time"!! Thank you for sharing this...
The cinematic quality and how Taylor relates the 850CSI's features to his dad's upbringing and love for technology truly make this not "just another car video".
Nour Hummadi always been a a BMW fan, had 3 E39s. 523i, 530i and 535i. excellent cars. currently driving a 9 months old F11, good car, but I just don't get that feeling, that e39s used to give me.
Back in 1997 i was born, and first car toy i got in the same year was a white BMW 850CSi, i was way to young to know anything, i played a lot with it. Couple of years later as i started getting more and more toy cars i kind of forgot on my 850CSi and it was just one of hundred cars i had until i was about old enough to get more in dept about cars. My dad opened a Honda dealership and i was all into JDM culture back in the days, and just who wasn't. And one day i open my box with car collection and i find my very first car, the white BMW 850CSi, a bit rusty and old but still realy cool looking car. I started remembering it and got even mad at myself for forgeting such a magnificent car. I fell in love with that car just by looking at the toy. I ask my dad about the car, he tells me about it but not that much. My dad loved the cars but not as much as i did, and still do, so he did not give me any important info on the car. I sit down on my computer and do a research about the car. I fell in love with it but even then i couldn't find much on it becouse of it's rarity, but i knew in depth of my heart that this is the car i want one day. Lot of years passed i started studying and moved to capital, and then one day when i was going back home from my university i see nothing less but dark green Alpine B12. I stoped breathing and started enjoying the moment, felt like i'm having a very short conversation with the machine. It went by me and i was speachless. Just that one moment, those few seconds felt so mesmerizing, never felt such joy and happiness in my life. 2 years after that i was going back to my birthplace town, and as i was driving back took the rout behind the BMW dealership, becouse of the roadworks, and as i was passing by i drive by nothing less but white BMW 850Ci. I stoped my Dodge Caliber behind it. I was just sitting there looking at it and promising myself that one day she will be mine, one day i will drive the BMW 850 from 90's. After about 2 minutes i start the engine on my car and leave with tears of joy and sadness in my eyes. To this day i still have my toy BMW 850CSi, and hopefully in near future both the toy and i will be sitting in a real thing.
Your story really shows the difference between a normal person and a petrolhead. A normal person is willing to work hard to get that dream car he wants because he wants to go really fast, have quad zone climate control, sit in heated leather seats and so on. For a petrolhead, the car he wants from the bottom of his heart may not be the fastest, the most modern and high-tech and the most luxurious. A dream car for a petrolhead is pieces metal, rubber and glass put together in a marvelous way. A car that will make his stomach and heart do acrobatics inside his body when he sees it in the real world. My journey to that one car has recently begun, I hope yours ends soon!
So, this 8 minutes was like a 80 years lifetime story . That is the main and only difference between BMW and all other cars . It's like no other video from this channel, no other story like this . My kid is 3 year old, and always recognize my E34 in the parking . And like Taylor said, when i see another E34, we do now each other . I have all type of cars, but the old Bimmers was always most memorable and soul touching . It's was not the fastest or economical, but deam it got soul :) .
Andre Guiristante they built this car ofcoarse they can they just wont because they are focused on bulk sales so making a 3 or 5 series is more important than making an 8 series which wont fetch same money.
Josh Kaemmerer Ehhhh, not really feeling that front end. I saw the 8 series concept a few days ago, and what immediately stuck out to me was how much it resembled an Aston Martin. The old 8 series was distinct. I still think the new 8 series looks amazing, but something about the old one was just so distinctly BMW. Its very much a subjective thing, so I won't say that one looks better than the other. Just the new one hasn't struck out to me and many others as the older one did, but again, thats not to say that this new car won't be great too.
Yes it is subjective, but I have to tell you how much I agree! First thing I thought about the new '8 was that it looked like an Aston. It's not ugly, but it's not unique either. When the original 8 came out absolutely nothing else resembled it. I think that's still true to this day.
I've driven a few of these while I owned a 750iL. The 850 will always be one of my all time favorite cars. Elegant, powerful, beautifully proportioned, classic.
Me too. In my opinion the E92 M3 is the most beautiful timeless car design ever. It still looks new, and it’s more beautiful than any car BMW has ever releasdd
I love the fact that the 850 CSi was totally unrestricted and could do 189 MPH. That is a super car today, let alone when it was first launched. In a word fantastic. I think you should have the minor paint work done, it will make you enjoy it even more.
Covert yes quite possibly, but I am sure they could solve a simple overheating problem. My 1991 M5 can do 160 and I think the only problem was the back windows could not open at high speed so they beefed up the window motors.
Lincoln Mark 8 w/Ford 32v DOHC V8 with a small mod could do almost that speed. It is in the same generation as this car. It had a land speed record. That engine has a few land speed records. That engine can also easily see 250k with basic maintenance. I have one with over 200K and it just has a bit of oil sweating.
if u go to concourse de elegance and get one of these registered in the bmw directory as an owner you can get special parts or special paints that they have kept away in the vault in order to resto thees to 100% show room floor...my buddys uncle has a yellow one of which they no longer produce the paint on and they shipped him a pint to re finish his hood bc that is the sentiment that BMW has
I just saw my first real 850csi at my local BMW dealership last saturday, another customer had it there and i was able to look at it. It was red and so clean under 100k miles. Stickshift beautiful car!
My fav feature is the auto window close when you "go too fast" when they are down. You also have to give epic points for the 2 windows. There is no pillar. It fells like a convertible with safety. My only gripe is the center display, it requires constant attention to keep it working. The dual batteries in the trunk are fun too. But for safety, be especiaally careful with your seats, find a good position then pull the seat fuse. My rails have mis alligned a few times and it's a mess. Best to lock them in place or expect a lot of fun maintainance and constant upkeep. Great overview!
....brings back memories of weekend cruising around New Zealand in my 840Ci Individual, should never have sold her. A beautiful looking GT luxury tourer and flawless performer. A brilliant video tribute to this stunning 90's supercar.
That car is one of my favorites design ever. So simple, elegant, class. I'm in love with every car that has that type of timeless design. What a shame modern design has to be so complicated for nothing (like the i8, NSX, LC500)...
Great video. But he asks what a 2020 or 2025 850csi would be like. Probably a 3cylinder turbo hybrid, made from a glued together aluminum tub, full of tech gadgets with tron inspired lights all over it. Let's stop asking ourselves these kind of questions and just appreciate the original!
You know, there is a 8 coming right? 2018 as Le Mans GTE and 2019 as street car. And the fact that this video was made with the help of BMW tells me it is already campaign time for them ;)
Many manufacturers went in to their basement in recent years and decided to get the mothballs of their heritage... There will be a new 928 as well based off the new Panamera platform. I have been saying I will get an 8 series for the longest time, but need to move to Germany first :P
I watch the bit that starts from 5:19 at least thrice a month. It's a simple, stupid story, but combined with the scenery, the roar of the S70B56 and Patterson's enthusiasm just makes that entire thing seem magical.
Gorgeous car! Not British or Italian enough for me personally, but this is probably my favourite German one. The 1990s had some great cars: Modern technology, reliability, timeless styling and classic build quality and materials.
So was the 2008 Ford GT when it was new, but as production went on things improved. Huge example the 84 Pontiac Fiero 4 cylinder engine. Not the best design for GM at the time however when they inset the 2.8 liter v6 things improved drastically over time. And yes I still own and 88 GT it's one of those experiences you either get and understand or look at it and and ask WHY?.
As far as i'm concerned, a small portion at the tail end of the 80s and a slim two years on the 2000s yielded some of the most iconic, some of the most loved, some of the most amazing cars in car history. IF not, then at the very least, it is the most homogeneous and most complex car era. And it's clear why. We, were still dreamers, we still thought we'd jump in a ready made space ship and go travel the solar system. Everything was just that brighter, and in that light, we made these amazing cars, which, until history shows us otherwise, we won't have the same feeling for other cars, ever again.
My dream car too.. Only touched & went into "the cockpit" once in 1995/96.. The instrumentation, dashboard tilted towards the driver, the seat etc are just WOW!... I compared this 8-series against Merc CL-series but no way near.. The 8-series is just too perfect... Thank you for sharing your experience of your dream car.. Lucky you, man...
Good lord, what an amazing and beautiful story about this dudes paps and love for tech. The production value of your channel is Hollywood esque and just perfect when it comes to capturing what the narration is saying. Thanks for this vid and fav'd!
Im restoring my grandfathers 93 CSI, that was parked without movement for about 15 years, just collecting dust and rust... When we first started it a couple months ago, I nearly cried of happines. We still have a lot of work to go, but this thing is absolutely insane. Hopefully next year, I can drive it like new. Best machine ever, peak 90s.
I relate to the remark about seeing another e31; as a longtime e24 driver, I just love seeing another on the road; I think I know every other one in my city!
You got more than one in your city? My dad has an e24 amd I own an e21 and i rarely see another e21, and I have never seen another e24 on the road here
The beauty of the old E31 is its timeless elegance, its simplicity of line. Regardless of the incredible complexities under the skin it is the essence of minimalist design. The new 8 will be quicker, faster maybe but there's nothing coming from BMW design studios that doesn't look like it was created by a committee. It'll be a Bloated, Thick B pillared, No Greenhouse, High Waisted technological marvel that inspires no passion just desire cos the celebs will be pre-ordering the entire production run.

Absolutely amazing. Somehow this BMW video got me thinking about life. I'm a true BMW lover, and just bought my sixth BMW. I'm proud to drive these machines, as in my opinion, BMW made and make the best cars on this planet. Thank you for making this video! PS: I also can relate as to why people mistake it for a 2017 concept car. It looks out of this world.
MarcusN sorry, these old west German built and designed bimmers, mercs and Porsches were on a different quality level than the crap they put out today.
I'm not a huge BMW fan like most, but I do love the engineering finesse some of their vehicles have. My selection of favourite BMW's is pretty small, but if I were able to own any, the 8 Series, 6 Series (E64), 5 Series (E28) and/or 2002 would be my picks!

Hey, those are some really nice cars and I appreciate them. Especially the Lotus.
I once drove a Lotus Super Seven...a dream I'll tell you.
Hmm it's not an easy question for me too but I'm going with two cars.
1. 1969 Charger 440 rt
2. 1st gen Viper RT GTS in silver with blue stripes.
As soon as my brother stormed into our sleeping room when I was young I immediately got hooked by the Charger from Fast and Furious. I know sounds stupid but I saw one on a car meet and I swear my heart stopped in that moment:) Didn't have the balls to go up to it though:(
And the Viper because of a poster on the wall from my brother in our room again.
When I got to sleep and when I woked up I saw that car:)
Hmm...I mean I was always into Corvettes too...
They'll retail for a lot in a near future.
because this thing pushes 380 with a v12 . the 3358 today does 400 with just a tune
The most beautiful BMW ever built, that V12 sounds amazing.
It doesn't sound like a stock exhaust though, although I am seldom behind mine.
wow. the part about his dad makes me want to cry. so so lucky to be able to do that with your dad. respect.

Ducati NYC Vlog I know right, I don't even know who my dad is. Some people are lucky!

@stubbk3 I built my Grandpa the 65 Falcon Sprint he always wanted. When I handed him the keys he handed them back and said he would enjoy it more if I took care of it for him.
Cry baby :(
I'm not much into BMWs, but this model is just jaw dropping.

This is by far, one of the best videos I've watched on UA-cam. Such an beautiful story, so well told. The emotional connection between the Father, the Son and The Dream Car!
I can so relate to it. 😊
Absolutely stunning vehicle, most beautiful BMW ever to me.
Yes, the 8 series was a beautiful car, but for mid/late-90's car with a V-12 was underpowered and overpriced.
Honestly, the best looking BMWs are, in my opinion, the E9 and the 507.
The M1 Comes close in design / aerodynamics and beauty .

I remember these cars going for 6,500 USD at one time, now they're way above that.
Gorgeous. They don't make em like they used to.
If the 850 is "like they used to" Im glad they don't (In reality im not though), It was a terrible terrible car.
Tony Soprano no it wasn't
ChaosphereIX true, so true.
MESHUUUUUUGGAH !
Yes it looks and it drives really well, but god damn its like they put the car together with super glue.
This is what bmw and Automotiv used to be.
Now it's all vulgar and "look at me".

The new 8 series is nothing against this beauty
I have to agree with you there. From what I've seen the new 8-series seems kinda soulless. A homogenous, generic BMW design.
yeah. The old 850 is one of the few cars (can only really think of the delorean here and maybe the fisker karma) which looks timeless. It will never look old.
Anonymous User
A shame they did a new 8-series...
THE 8-series, like seen in the video, was a one of a kind BMW model, there was only one generation of it! It made it such a special model!
A now... It's the "old one"...
Fucked up!
Agreed
This almost made me cry.
Amen
You nailed it !
@Guybrush Threepwood 😂
This was a very well done video. That father/son relationship is something every boy becoming a man should have the opportunity to cherish. Once our fathers are gone we lose a piece of us. This man holds onto his fathers spirit through the embodiment of this car. His memory encapsulated into this 850CSI.
His story about his dad made me tear up.
100% man, I literally signed the papers on my E31 yesterday. When he said that I just thought oh boy here come the tears.
for real
I'm glad I wasn't the only one...

Not a single shot with headlights open :(
Javad Gul I thought I was the only to notice that, and the pop up lights are one of its most defining features.
@3:33
probably faulty
or all 4 windows down.
maybe the headlights will break the streamline design of the car, and they don't want you guys to see that.
My top 5 dream cars to own. Beautiful car, I would pick the 850csi over a ferrari 488.
Let me know if u are interested in one.
Same mani looove the BMW 8 series though the maintenance must be absolutely horrific (because they thought in the 90s when AUTODESK/AUTOCADD came out they though they should make everything impossibly tight because that’s definitely a fantastic idea ugh 🤦🏽♂️)

it's a beautiful car.. but it doesn't look like a 2017/2018 car.. ( that's a good thing. )
Charles Nguyen yeah, you really gotta not know your cars to mistake that for a 2017 model.
yeah, I have yet to see popup headlights on a new car, though I wish I did cause I like it
Matt Dyck or the size of the wheels, the style of the tail lights, moldings..... it is a timeless design, but it's clearly not a new car.
Pop-ups got banned late 90's because if you hit someone you're going to impale them. Regulations on crumple zones got stricter I think.
To average people they could mistaken it as a newer model. I had people assuming my eleven years old Saab to be a new model, they were surprised when I told them, it's not new, I just happen to keep it clean and nice - of course the car does it too, usually the more classy styled cars can have this effect because the design is timeless.
Man I would kill for an 850 csi. It is not only a beautiful car but that V12 with a manual box makes it so damn sexy.
I would kill for a 🍩!!!
sexy in your garage coz of all the faults. the 840i is a better drivers car and has passed the test of time as a daily driver 25 years later. unfortunate but its the way it is.
Today I own an 1M and I think it feels kind of the same special as the original 8 felt, but the 8 still holds a special place in my heart and memories, I will own an 850 one day.
can you imagine yourself as a kid in 1990 sitting in such a car.. in the early 90's we were just stunned when we used to see one like once or twice per year. it is one of those moments you really wish your parents were rich
that was still in a time when a 7 series was superrare in europe and even a 5 series was an upperclass very rare vehicle.
Fuck you
This was a huge deal but got panned in the press at the time. It was only when the 840 came out that I started to see a lot more of them. Never saw an 850 CSI in the flesh, but did see Alpina derivatives. It is the only car that elicits a positive response from the most anti car people I know. The shape is truly something special, something that makes people think outside their norm. In time, I think it will be celebrated as much as an F40 or Miura.
couldn't agree more - the e31 might be the most beautiful BMW design, ever. stunning with the windowns down!

I think the e34 is the most underrated
My dream has always been, since I was 5 years, to have a e31. I still remember my dad taking me out in his back in the early 90s. This video reminded me of the good old days.
This car stole my hart at the first sight. Now, 26 years later it is still my dream car. I'd take an 850csi over any Supra. Sure the Toyota will be faster, but speed and specs aren't everything
Engine sounds and looks amazing..
That first launch made the hair on the back of my neck stand up
I saw one tonight. Haven't seen one in years and I had forgotten just how beautiful they are. Great video!

The Truth I bet no turbo lag either, when you drive it. The sound is crucial, when it comes to classic sport cars.
"Just Drive it"... I respect that motto. "Driven, not hidden">>> you only live once.

I don t think even BMW could make a better looking car in the future
Andre Guiristante they built this car ofcoarse they can they just wont because they are focused on bulk sales so making a 3 or 5 series is more important than making an 8 series which wont fetch same money.
Don't speak of that which you know not.
www.bmwblog.com/2017/05/24/leaked-the-new-bmw-8-series-concept/
Syed Mahdi its 2017. Your talking smack about the front end of a 1992. smh. There are HATERS everywhere.
Man, I have no words
It's so simple yet so dynamic
You have got to love those big Ford V8s
alb12345672Just did a quick google - Chipped MK8 top speed about 155. Does that sound right or do you have proof of something close to 189?

As a kid from the 90's, that BMW was my dream car. It still looks amazing today. Great video.
if u go to concourse de elegance and get one of these registered in the bmw directory as an owner you can get special parts or special paints that they have kept away in the vault in order to resto thees to 100% show room floor...my buddys uncle has a yellow one of which they no longer produce the paint on and they shipped him a pint to re finish his hood bc that is the sentiment that BMW has
I just saw my first real 850csi at my local BMW dealership last saturday, another customer had it there and i was able to look at it. It was red and so clean under 100k miles. Stickshift beautiful car!
I camed back to rewatch this video after 2 years such a good video
I have made it my goal to own one of these and a e30 completely rebuilt by the time I'm 28. Absolutely phenomenal car when fully restored.
That roar of the engine, that clack sound of the doors shutting, it driving into the sunset♥️

That car is one of my favorites design ever. So simple, elegant, class. I'm in love with every car that has that type of timeless design. What a shame modern design has to be so complicated for nothing (like the i8, NSX, LC500)...
This is one of the most beautiful videos on UA-cam. Moreso that it's about my most favorite car and I relate so much. Wow
And the fact that this video was made with the help of BMW tells me it is already campaign time for them ;)
I don't keep up with the new models because they're all pretty much the same, just different numbers on the boot.
well said...!!
greenkouki the new 8 series is coming out. It's going to be silly fast.
Many manufacturers went in to their basement in recent years and decided to get the mothballs of their heritage... There will be a new 928 as well based off the new Panamera platform.
I have been saying I will get an 8 series for the longest time, but need to move to Germany first :P
BWM 850CSI, not just one of the most covetable BMWs ever, but one of the most desirable cars ever, period,
I watch the bit that starts from 5:19 at least thrice a month.
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X 850i was far from reliable haha
Compared to a 1970's car it most probably was.
Let's replace the 'reliable' with 'usable'.
Or Japanese. NSX is still my ace.
Building the 8series hype, hu?
I like that marketing approach by BMW
boehm1888 I thought this too haha
Bingo, my good man, a very subtle tease for the new one coming.
Listen to what he says near the end of the video, he was looking forward to a remake of this car.
Not very subtle, BMW ;)
Do not do it. Look at the failure of the Acura NSX, and Ford GT both total flops that cost way more money than should be.
Benjamin Williams oh yah those cars are massive flops 😂
My dream car too.. Only touched & went into "the cockpit" once in 1995/96.. The instrumentation, dashboard tilted towards the driver, the seat etc are just WOW!... I compared this 8-series against Merc CL-series but no way near.. The 8-series is just too perfect... Thank you for sharing your experience of your dream car.. Lucky you, man...

THIS CAR WAS MADE IN HEAVEN !!!!!!
It'll be a Bloated, Thick B pillared, No Greenhouse, High Waisted technological marvel that inspires no passion just desire cos the celebs will be pre-ordering the entire production run.
i dont think this car would have been any less exiting with a standard 6 cyclinder. its not about the engine.
I own 840Ci 6 speed manual as substitude of CSI. I've watched this video 10 times and I love it to bits ...soundtrack is awesome too. Drive tastefuly. Life is too short to drive ugly cars!!! :-)
LUCKY YOU.
Does it cost a fortune to insure it and service it if you want the full package? Ex if you want to service it at BMW?
did you swap in the manual transmission? that's not stock in north america at least
I live in Poland (Europe). I've bought Her in Germany over two years ago and it's stock six speed manual. VIN No. is WBAEF51020CC78283 to prove it.
Kind Regards
Marek
Thanks Mate. I wish that I could add some photos of my E31.
That car is a tribute for ur father i think..u and ur father has a lot of memories with that car..i can see that tears has a lot of things to say..the joy of having that car as a trophy from ur father..the sadness of ur father is no more..
It looks out of this world.

sorry, these old west German built and designed bimmers, mercs and Porsches were on a different quality level than the crap they put out today.
love this car, but how the hell does it look like a modern concept?
You must be European if you think that. BMWs are only lease worthy now.

Yes, for real…
It doesn't at all…

Wow this was such an amazing video. Thanking about selling my Viper and getting one and this video showed up
I like the way he explains about his admiration from his father...Respect
So this is it?
"The high tide, in 850i's..."
Biggie Smalls - 1995 - Can't You See
Domino " Sweet Potato Pie" music video has the 850i.
And prince bought and kept an 850i throughout his life. He had about thirty cars over his life and kept only one.
Eazy-e also had a 850csi, coolest rapper ever
Amazing feedback from this owner! The 8 série bmw is beyond money, is pure passion and feeling. Regards from Portugal
This will be forever be one of my favorite BMW's
This is so amazing , love the story ...lost my dad on covid, so this is very emotional for me . thanks
I've seen 2 here in Scottsdale, 1 black & 1 red. Being past by one on the freeway is magical, the sound is incredible!
Great video! That's the reason I bought mine 12 years ago...and still loving it today.
Ted Bobo u really have 1?!!!!
Ted Bobo 840 or 850? And which one do you recommend all in all?
I'm not a huge BMW fan like most, but I do love the engineering finesse some of their vehicles have. My selection of favourite BMW's is pretty small, but if I were able to own any, the 8 Series, 6 Series (E64), 5 Series (E28) and/or 2002 would be my picks!
Love this story... I know exactly how you feel when you drive the CSi and hear that slight rumble of that silky smooth v12.... it’s like a time warp for me every time I’m behind the wheel...
One word to describe the 850 CSI - Stunning
One of the coolest cars I've seen on this channel, timeless indeed!
I am so proud to say I owned one in 1997....the BEST car I have ever driven......22 years later I am still in love with it!!!
This Video is so emotional, this Car is still a Legend!
I love his passion for the 8 series. Reminds me of how i feel about my E36.
you probably put ebay coilovers on it and cut the mufflers
@@SmartsmileGT got the same idea after looking at "Kyle".
Fabulous video, folks, thanks. I own a black 850Ci in Australia, and just fell in love with it all over again...
I love this car so much that it actually brought tears to my eyes.
