I think number of views says it all - visually pleasing but not reliable and prone to clogging. Thank you James for posting this and helping all those dabbling in DIY and aspiring handy persons. This is a small step for humanity, but a massive one for my family's bath time!
So helpful! You just saved me a ton of money because I didn’t have to keep the new replacement part I bought, or wait 5 weeks for a different part, nor did I have to bring in an expensive plumber! You’re my new favorite person! Thank you!
Super helpful. So clearly explained. Was able to rescue and mend my spring-loaded plug myself which would otherwise have cost me £££ if I'd had to get a plumber to sort. THANK YOU!
This was brilliant. 👍 Thanks to this video, I was able to get my spring-loaded bath plug to stay down again. Very clear explanation and easy to follow. Fantastic work.
A fantastic and concise example of what a tutorial should be. And it worked! My Pop-Up stopper now works properly for the first time in years. I only would suggest more detail in the process of re-hooking up that damn little clip. But patience and multiple re-watches led to success. Well done!
Thanks for explaining how the stopper works. I removed it from the sink but as I have arthritis I didn’t want to risk taking it to pieces. Anyway as there was verdigris on mine I found some descaler and gave it a good soak. I’d already put WD40 on it before I saw your video which explained how to remove it. ANYWAY, it is clean now from the descaler so I’ve put some 3 in 1 oil on it and will put it back when that is soaked in. It is moving OK so should work. I have to fend for myself and will be 73 next birthday and always like to solve problems myself but was able to do it with your help.
The best video on how to strip and repair the push-button mechanism. Concise and to the point. Exactly what's needed instead of just lubricating the mechanism like many other youtube videos on this subject. Thank you.
Absolute genius James! Took it apart, gave it a clean and actually got it back together in working order. I discovered the ratchet with the kink had lost its kink, but still managed to get it working. Good, clear instructions.
Who'd have thought a video for a pop up plug could be so useful. My better half bought one but I dissasembled it and it stopped locking down. Your video saved me so thank you. Don't ever think videos like this small insignificant thing such as assembling a pop up plug are not worth it because they totally are 👍👍👍👍👍
Couldn't find a replacement cylinder anywhere online. This video on how to repair was SO needed! Thank you SO much for posting, and for being clear and well spoken. Great tutorial!
Thanks for showing us that it’s ok to use pliers to unscrew the stopper assembly. Here’s a helpful tip. The multiple sizes of copper brushes in a gun cleaning kit are useful for infinite purposes, such as cleaning the disassembled stopper housing and parts. Thanks for a perfect, no-nonsense how to video!
Thanks for taking the time to upload this video, with your help I was able to fix the pop up waste on a sink that I bought second hand and save my self some money. It is an ingenious idea but so simple when you see how it works. It was definitely not a" WASTE" of time watching this video, thanks again for your help.
Beautiful simplicity! It was exactly what our freestanding Fleurco tub needed. Remind all to close sink stopper so set screw doesn’t “accidentally” unscrew all the way and find nearest sink! Only added 5 min to unscrew u-turn in sink plumbing to retrieve. Works like a charm now. Thanks so very much.
Just echoing the many many others to say that you've saved my day as well. Thanks for sharing your wisdom on UA-cam for others to benefit and learn from.
Thank you! After a year I finally decided to try to fix this thing again, the pin somehow popped out of the little rail, it wasn't staying down. The mechanism is exactly the same, I was so happy when I saw the first frame.
My sink got stuck in my new house and I didn't have the first clue as to how to fix it. I watched this video, and your straightforward step by step instructions were very easy to learn from. Now, pleased to say my sink is completely fixed! Thank you so much!
Thank you for showing me how to fix this problem! Not time consuming, so super excited about that! Mine was also stuck in the down position. I put hot vinegar in the sink. I waited until it drained itself. I had to do that twice. Then I took the rubber disc to open jars and placed it on top. With some strong pressure, I was able to finally unscrew the stopper so I could dismantle it. My top does not unscrew. So pleased! It would have been a pain to find a new one & I did not relish the idea of taken the drain apart!
Thank you so much! When trying to clear a hair jam, the hair pulled mine in half, and I did not know how to get it back together. Your video is perfect. Mine is black and plastic, no screw, just spring retainer hooks moulded into the plastic bodies
Nice quick video, straight to the point. Thanks. :) Tip: Whilst WD40 is great for displacing water it wont stay on for long when washed. It is excellent at thinning down and removing other greases too. Ideally use some lithium grease instead.
This is an excellent video. I just bought replacement pistons from ebay for £3 to resolve the issue. For such a cheap price I couldn't be bothered to repair the pistons. However this video is great to deconstruct how the piston works
Fantastic, l was trying to fix this thing from the top down. Your video showed me the error of my attempts to reassemble the little bxxxxx. Reassembly is in fact from the bottom up. Thank you for taking the trouble to share your knowledge online. Much appreciated. Brian Stockport
Excellent video - thank you! The plug is now working! I wasn't able to unscrew the internal mechanism (the tiny grub screw has seized up), but took the rest of it apart, cleaned it and oiled it and it's now working. Thanks!
Thank you so much. In my case, the ratchet had somehow become attached to the spring; this is the only place I could find with clear images of how it goes together.
Thanks for helping me fix my sink plug. It's been seized for years and I have finally fixed it. Your plug is opposite to mine and it still worked. Nice short precise video
Thank you so much for making this video. Could not find a replacement brush nickel pop up drain when ours got messed up trying to fix a clog. The issue was the little hook thing not catching and my husband was able to fix ours in 5 minutes flat with your superb instructions.
Thank you; this video was really useful, as it enabled me to see how to remove the thing from the waste pipe, clean and re-assemble it. Best wishes, Luke Wiseman
Thank you! My mechanism was not working as it would not stay down. Following your instructions I discovered my "kinky end" had snapped off. I need to replace the pop-up mechanism but this is a lot cheaper and much less hassle than replacing the whole thing!
Thank you so much for kindly having posted this video. Your explanation and instructions were very clear and helpful, and our sink plug is now fixed! Many thanks again for your help, greatly appreciated :)
It worked! Thank you!!Superb. Well explained and demonstrated. The "keyring" took some effort to remove and replace but with a little care and the use of a screwdriver I managed it.
Thanks very much for your video. My bathroom plug kept getting stuck and I fully expected to have to buy a new mechanism £££. Before heading to the shop I did a quick google search and found your video. My mechanism is identical to yours and after a good clean it worked as good as new. The fiddly bit was putting the kinky wire back in as mine didn't want to go (plus there was no kink in mine - it was just bent). Saved me time and a few quid.
I know this is an older video but I wanted to say thank you! I’d been wracking my brain trying to fix my “OS&B Q Clicker” drain. It popped apart which the spring and all pieces flying in all directions when I unscrewed it to clean it out. I coulent for thé life of me figure out how to reassemble it! My clicker is kind of opposite of yours but the principle is the same and you helped me figure it out. Thanks!
Thanks a lot, that saved my day, I was angry about removing that little screw because I though it was for adjusting the height, be just ended up unloading the spring-locking mecanism
This is the only video like this and incredibly useful. The natural reaction is to say throw them away and get a new one but actually they come in different sizes so that is easier said than done. Better to repair it....and not get a click clack in the first place!
Great video, had it appart but could not figure the bottom section. Very well explained and not the over the top production like many fix it videos. Thanks!
Thank you so much. I have used a screwdriver to release mine and it would work for another while. I've just completely cleaned it, oiled it and its finally working perfectly.
Thanks for the video! I came up with my own way with things having around the kitchen. I used the tape, hold the tape down in one thump and twisted with the other hand. Removed it in 10 seconds. Then lubricated the retractable mechanical rod with dish soap, pressed it a couple of times like a pen until it cleaned up all the sticky thingy then put it back. Cost $0.00
Awesome video...mine was a pain in the ass because it always stuck in the down position....after following this video i cleaned it and gave it some grease and now it's as good as new. Helped me alot and it's so simple and easy to do thanks to this video .....
Thank you! I bent the ratchet piece whilst installing the waste, had to painstakingly straighten it and get it back in. And without this video I wouldn't have known it had been bent in the first place!
I think number of views says it all - visually pleasing but not reliable and prone to clogging. Thank you James for posting this and helping all those dabbling in DIY and aspiring handy persons. This is a small step for humanity, but a massive one for my family's bath time!

Thanks so much, I thought I've irreversibly broke mine but thanks to your video I fixed it in 2 mins
Super helpful. So clearly explained. Was able to rescue and mend my spring-loaded plug myself which would otherwise have cost me £££ if I'd had to get a plumber to sort. THANK YOU!
This was brilliant. 👍
Thanks to this video, I was able to get my spring-loaded bath plug to stay down again.
Very clear explanation and easy to follow. Fantastic work.
I followed this video and was able to fix my brand new push up drain. Thank you!
Perfect! I went to shop for a replacement but couldn't find one. Came home and found this video and fixed my stopper. Thank you!

great job love hope its working well ours is stuck at the moment lol and your comment has given me the confidence to give it a go
The best video on how to strip and repair the push-button mechanism. Concise and to the point. Exactly what's needed instead of just lubricating the mechanism like many other youtube videos on this subject. Thank you.
Thank you! My son actually pulled this mechanism apart (twice now) and this video has helped me fix our bath tub!
Absolute genius James! Took it apart, gave it a clean and actually got it back together in working order. I discovered the ratchet with the kink had lost its kink, but still managed to get it working. Good, clear instructions.

Easily available on Amazon
AliExpress I got 2 for under $3
You legend. This has been annoying me for weeks. Fixed it! High five
Weeks? Haha. I'm far more lazy than that. I've been avoiding doing this for about 7 years.
Thanks for showing us that it’s ok to use pliers to unscrew the stopper assembly. Here’s a helpful tip. Lifesaver! Mines been stuck down for months and finally got round to trying to sort it, which your video has helped me do!

Brilliant! Took about five minutes to fix our bath waste following your video. Now works perfectly. Thank you.
I rarely comment on anywhere. Dude, you are the best. Very clear instructions. You saved me 30eur!
Excellent work! Thanks for this clear yet detailed guide for repairing the spring mechanism. 👍
Thank you! After a year I finally decided to try to fix this thing again, the pin somehow popped out of the little rail, it wasn't staying down. The mechanism is exactly the same, I was so happy when I saw the first frame.
I’m feeling very impressed and proud that I managed to do this. Thank you for uploading.
This proves to me no video is too inconspicuous to put on UA-cam. Thanks a lot for doing this.
My sink got stuck in my new house and I didn't have the first clue as to how to fix it. I watched this video, and your straightforward step by step instructions were very easy to learn from. Now, pleased to say my sink is completely fixed! Thank you so much!
You are a god! No one else gives an actual fix for the mechanism. Thank you!
I needed to understand what was not working properly. This showed me exactly what I needed to know and now all sorted. Thanks!
Perfect video and explanation. Was able to fix it in about 10 minutes start to finish and saved a trip to B&Q, Toolstation etc.
Great, no nonsense, easy to follow video
Thank you! My plug wouldn’t stay locked so I watched this vid, took apart the pieces, cleaned and WD40 and now it clicks down and up perfectly! 👏🏻 👏🏻
Brilliant video. Incredibly clear. Worked a treat!

Where did you get those replacements?
Thank you, after much head scratching, I watched your video and now all is fixed and working. Brilliant thank you.
Thank you!! I was able to fix my stopper and save myself the trouble of finding a replacement -- really appreciate your step-by-step breakdown
Great video, thank you! My wife bought a replacement but it wasn't the exact size so I set about repair of the old one using your vid. Worked a treat!
Fantastic, l was trying to fix this thing from the top down. Your video showed me the error of my attempts to reassemble the little bxxxxx.
Reassembly is in fact from the bottom up. Thank you for taking the trouble to share your knowledge online.
Much appreciated.

Many thanks for this clear explanation. It’s the only instruction of this kind I could find on the internet.
Mines slightly different but the tutorial is spot on ... Saved me $30 my man ... Some heroes truly don't wear capes eh... Cheers from 🇨🇦
Wonderful clear video, thank you so much. I struggle with DIY but thrilled that we fixed our plug after watching your video. Thanks again!
The only proper explanation. Thank you.

Had to take out my girlfriends hair from the drain and the spring popped out. Did not know how to fix it until this video. You’re a life saver 🙏🏾
Thank you! I have been scratching my head over how to fix mine, and this explained it perfectly!
This worked for me, now my plug works fine, thank you.
Because of your video ...I fixed my popup drain assembly that came apart 👍🍻from ONTARIO 🇨🇦
Thanks. This helped me figure out how to fix my hook, which had popped out and somehow got partially unwrapped by the catch coil.
Thank you so much for making this video. Could not find a replacement brush nickel pop up drain when ours got messed up trying to fix a clog. The issue was the little hook thing not catching and my husband was able to fix ours in 5 minutes flat with your superb instructions.
This is the best explanation video I have seen, no lie! Very thorough and helpful!

Thank you so much for this. Love resources like this on UA-cam, learn so much

Man I love UA-cam. This was exactly what I needed to see to get mine fixed. Thank you sir!!

Great instructional video! Very appreciative of your instructions as it saved me a big hassle of trying to find the correct replacement
Perfekt, your tutorial is the solution of this faulty construction - thank you from Bavaria!

Nice one! Thank you for the video! Simple and straight to the point! Our push pop-up stopper works now! Thank you!
Really well done video with a thorough explanation of the operation of the plug. Thanks.
Thanks a lot, that saved my day, I was angry about removing that little screw because I though it was for adjusting the height, be just ended up unloading the spring-locking mecanism
Thanks very much. Just moved to a house with one of these and it stuck first time. Things were much easier in the days of a rubber plug on a chain!
Thanyou!!!
Someone who doesn't just suggest throwing away;), I appreciate your video help.
Thank you! I took mine apart to clean it and when I put it back together it wouldn't stay down, you video gave me the exact steps to fix it.
Thanks for this video. Very clear and easy to follow, and thanks for explaining how the mechanism works. Going to give this a try now

Because of your VDO I can fix the stopper by myself and I'm so so proud of it :3
Thanks James very helpful, limescale was the issue all cleaned and re assembled works a treat.
thanks dude, mine was slightly different but fixed it thanks to this video
This was the vid I needed to fix my issue with a pop-up stopper. Excellent guide. Many thanks!
